Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Aug 18-25

Update: As I feared, I missed a milestone. Carrie’s “See You Again” went to number one on the Country chart for the week. Congrats Carrie!! This is her 17th number one on the Country charts (for 18 singles released). And thanks windmills and Joob for the info!

It’s the return of the Mediabase Monday Report!…and things are a little rusty. Songs sometimes flit up and down the chart, so I may flag something as a milestone that is actually a return. So, apologies in advance.

Looks like there have been some exciting chart happenings in the last few weeks. We have bid adieu to some old friends and have some new songs/artists appearing. Two songs are poised at the number two spots, waiting to ascend to the top of their respective charts (Carrie on Country and Phil on AC). And there are four milestones (by my count).

Let’s start with Season 5 9th place finisher, Mandisa. She’s moved into the top 5 on the CAC chart where she has become a solid hit-maker. “Overcomer” is the debut single from her fourth Non-Christmas studio album. The album itself is due out this week so the timing is good. Go Mandisa!

Another consistent staple in her format is Fantasia. While her second single (also from her fourth album) climbs back into the top 10 on Urban, she is featured on a single from Joe. Joe is an old hand at R&B and this is the second single from his 10th album. “Love and Sex” climbs onto the UAC chart this week straight into the top 40.

Over on The Voice franchise, Cassadee Pope continues to carry the banner for the must successful winner of that show ever. The Season 3 champ’s first single moves into the top 30 on Country this week.

Not to be forgotten is X-Factor – US division. The show can make news for more than making babies, let me tell you. “Fifth Harmony”, the third place finishers from the second season (consisting of a band made up by Simon) has their first top 40 hit with “Miss Movin’ On” on Pop.
