Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Aug 10-16

Five milestones this week – all from the UK franchise of the X-Factor

First up are the four lads from the UK. They were formed from solo singers on the show and took the world by storm. Now, they are on the debut single for their fifth album (they were once five and now they are four). One Directions “Drag Me Down” have had a milestone every week since its release and this week it has two. DMD goes top 20 on Pop and top 50 on HAC.

Leona Lewis won X-Factor and became the franchise’s first US success story. She’s back with her new debut single “Thunder” and she’s making some noise. The song went top 40 on HAC and AC this week.

Finally, we have the first group to win X-Factor UK – Little Mix. Like 1D, they were also formed by the show’s judges from solo singers. They have a good social media presence, but have struggled to gain significant airplay or sales traction in the US. Will “Black Magic” do the trick? It is now top 30 on Pop.

Idol’s Tori Kelly’s “Should’ve Been Us” returns to the top 40 on Rhythmic.
