Three milestones this week on the Monday Morning Mediabase Memo.
The US franchise of X-Factor was short lived, but it did launch Fifth Harmony which would go on to launch several solo careers. Normani was one of the members of Fifth Harmony and she has success on a variety of formats. This week, her latest single “Wild Side” featuring Cardi B has gone to the top of the Urban charts.
If all the pre-Black Friday sales haven’t clued you in yet, Christmas is coming. This past week, radio has taken up the chorus as some of the AC channels begin flooding their format with Christmas songs. One of the songs leading the charge is original American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson. Her original “Christmas isn’t Cancelled…” is debuting in the top 40 on AC.
Over on Country, we see another debut from an American Idol winner. Scotty McCreery is back on the chart after recently topping it. His latest single is called “Damn Strait”. That’s not a typo – he’s damning George Strait because his songs remind him of the girl he lost, but it’s really a tribute referencing many of his songs (one would be mad to actually curse out the much revered George Strait on Country radio).
Over on the BB200, Morgan Wallen’s album remains firmly parked in the top 10. This week it was third with 42K in equivalentt album sales (down 1% from the previous week).
