Four milestones to celebrate this Labour Day Monday.
Niall Horan becomes the second One Directioner (first if you only count current members) to have a top 5 song on Pop radio. “Slow Hands” is his second single from his TBA album. “This Town” stopped just outside the top 10 on Pop while going top 5 on HAC. “Slow Hands” is currently 4th on Pop (with the three songs in front of it having a negative bullet) and top 6 on HAC (with 4 of the 5 songs in front of it sporting a negative bullet). Can he go top 1? It’s still a long slog to number one as the rungs get further and further apart the higher up the chart you go. Lot’s of songs stall out and Taylor Swift’s monster of a song is chomping at his heels.
His fellow bandmate, Louis Tomlinson has a milestone of his own. Louis is also working a second single, but I believe that it is his first official single. “Back to You” features Bebe Rexha and Digital Farm Animals. The song has moved into the top 30 on HAC and is already top 30 on Pop.
American Idol winner Phillip Phillips is working his lead single from his TBA album. “Miles” achieves its third milestone on AAA in as many weeks. The song debuted on the chart two weeks ago and now it is top 30. The song is also top 30 on HAC and on the AC chart.
Finally, stepping back one season, we have Lauren Alaina with “Doin’ Fine” debuting on Country. She’s currently featured on a duet with Kane Brown which is poised to enter the top 5 on Country in the coming weeks.
