Monday Morning Mediabase 03/29/2021

Three debuts this week to ring out the third month of the year.

Lauren Alaina is back on the Country charts with “Getting Over Him”. This single features Jon Pardi and is the title track from her “Getting Over Him” album released in September of 2020. The song starts out at 49th. Lauren Alaina was the runner-up on Season 10 of Idol.

Jennifer Hudson was one of the first shock boots from American Idol and her elimination was part of the first Huff. In Season 3, poor George Huff was told he was safe and asked to join the group of three he thought was safe. Jennifer’s booting was so shocking, even Elton John commented. She would of course go on to win an Oscar and a Grammy, so finishing seventh on Idol is not necessarily a career ender. Jennifer Hudson’s version of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” debuts on UAC this week in the top 40. Fans were first introduced to this version as part of a MasterCard add, but now they can enjoy the full version.

Our final debut is from The Voice as Duncan Laurence’s “Arcade” went for adds on Pop last week and stormed into the top 40. The song is also top 30 on HAC and top 15 on AC. “Arcade” was a Eurovision song and I don’t remember the last time one of them was a success in the US. The most memorable is probably Abba’s “Waterloo” back in 1974, but there were a couple of covers of “Save Your Kisses for Me” in 1976 and “Ooh Aah…Just a Little Bit” in 1996. Here is a list to a list Aussievision made.

Over on the BB200 front, Morgan Wallen was finally dethroned by Justin Bieber and Lana Del Rey. While Bieber racks up his 8th number one (becoming the youngest solo artist to do that), Wallen still managers to move 66K equivalent albums (-4%) during his 11th week on the chart.
