Miley Cyrus pulled double duty as host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live (October 3). In between performing in skits with the cast, the singer donned some crazy duds (yes, she stayed dressed) to perform two songs from her surprise album, Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz, dropped the night of the MTV Music Video Awards back in August. The dis was co-produced/written by the singer and Wayne Coyne of the alt/indie band, Flaming Lips.

Miley’s first song, “Karen Don’t Be Sad” was introduced by none other than Hillary Clinton, Democratic presidential candidate, who had just finished a skit playing a bartender having a heart to heart with herself, played by Kate McKinnon doing her Hillary impression. Miley kept things fairly accessible, performing two straightforward ballads.

Miley accompanied herself on piano for the second performance, “Twinkle Song.” Things got pretty raw as she howled the last chorus with tears streaming down her cheeks. She banged a discordant piano chord to finish the song, before explaining that the three photos set up on the baby grand were her actual dead pets.
