FOX exectutive, Mike Darnell, told Ryan Seacrest on his KISS radio show this morning that the new “Judges Save” rule “is creating an enormously raw moment on the show, better than we imagined.” Darnell claims that fixing shock boots was the initial reason for the save, but thinks the
cruelty drama and tension that’s been added is “just incredible.”
As if 90% of the reason for the Judges Save wasn’t all about added drama to the results show. Yeah, RIGHT. You can practically hear Darnell panting with excitment as he describes the brutal–“aggressive” is how he describes it–way Alexis Grace was dismissed from the show last night.
Seriously, Darnell probably needed to get a room after that.
He also hilariously claims that a rating spike for last night is due to the Save. Meanwhile, the ratings experts are claiming that TV viewership was down across the board Tuesday night–the ratings would have gone up for the results show regardless.
The Save can only be used through the Top 6–after that “the math doesn’t work” Darnell says.
Darnell confirms that Paula Abdul still hasn’t settled a new contract with Idol, and that currently they are trying to work out a new deal with her.
