The Top 10 Arrive in Detroit

Another article from the Detroit News. Megan Joy and Michael Sarver didn’t make the trip. Both are sick.

An update on the Idols in Detroit from the Detroit Free Press. The Idols are in Detroit filming video for next week’s “50 Years of Motown” theme.

With a mentoring session on tap inside the Motown museum, the show’s 10 contestants arrived in a caravan of Ford Flexes at about 10:15 a.m., greeted by a couple dozen fans and about the same number of media personnel.

A show producer gestured and shouted instructions as the 10 were promptly escorted up the museum sidewalk and into the little building that houses Motown’s old Studio A.
The cars had circled the block three times as directors sought a good arrival shot.

Anoop Desai, Lil Rounds and Kalamazoo’s Matt Giraud got the bulk of the crowd’s attention as the group headed inside with an “Idol” film crew, but mostly kept quiet as they absorbed the scene and listened for directors’ cues.

Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson arrived about 30 minutes later.

“I’m not going to talk about singing. I’m going to talk about them as people, ” said Motown founder Gordy to reporters outside the museum, “Success is the easy part — it’s about what kind of person you are, and integrity. Longevity is the name of the game.”

The core Motown catalog has been done to death on Idol–I can’t say I’m looking forward to this theme, despite the fact that I like the music.   I hope a few of the kids at least attempt to change up the arrangements (I’m counting on YOU Adam) or I’m afraid it will be a night of dull, karaoke performances. Zz.

Next week results show features Smokey Robinson plus Ruben Studdard singing his new single, …Together
