Mandisa autopsy reveals she died of natural causes

American Idol 2006 alum and Grammy winning Gospel singer, Mandisa’s cause of death is revealed.

The singer died of complications of class III obesity at the age of 47, according to a recently released autopsy report. The medical examiner noted that she weighed 488 pounds at the time of her death, according to TMZ.

The report said the star was found dead in her home by friends on April 18, and that she “was last known alive approximately three weeks” earlier. Per the report, the singer’s friends found her in a state of decomposition in her residence. Emergency medical services arrived at the scene, where she was pronounced dead.

Despite her state of decomposition, the autopsy was able to be thoroughly conducted, reports TMZ, which showed no signs of trauma to her neck. A toxicology report also found nothing abnormal. The manner of death was ruled as natural.

According to new report, her past medical records indicated a history of ulcerative colitis, sleeve gastrectomy and obesity.

Class III obesity is a disease in which a person “has a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher or a BMI of 35 or higher and is experiencing obesity-related health conditions,” according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Mandisa’s autopsy report has revealed new details surrounding her sudden death earlier this year.

Mandisa finished in 9th place on American Idol season 5

Mandisa finished in 9th place when she competed on season 5 alongside Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee, Chris Daughtry and Kellie Pickler in 2006. K-Love radio broke the news. Mandisa’s father confirmed her death to TMZ who reports that her death was unexpected and a total shock to the family. There were no known health issues prior to her death.

She made her mark on American Idol after standing up to judge Simon Cowell after he snarkily criticized her weight behind her back. She humbled him, which doesn’t happen often.

“”Yes you hurt me, and I cried,” she said during the Top 24 final judgement.” she told the judge during the Top 24 final judgement where she was put through to the next round. “And it was painful, it really was. But I want you to know that I’ve forgiven you and you don’t need someone to apologize in order to forgive somebody.”

Mandisa’s fellow American Idol alums paid tribute to the singer

On the April 30 episode, former Idols Danny Gokey, Melinda Doolittle and Colton Dixon performed “Shackles (Praise You)” in a moving tribute to their late friend. She performed the song on American Idol during her run on the show.
