American Idol season 17 finalist Madison VanDenburg turned 18 earlier this month. It’s perfect timing to release her new song, aptly titled “Eighteen.” The powerhouse singer, who finished in 3rd place behind Alejandro Aranda and winner Laine Hardy in 2019, wrote on Facebook about immediately connecting to the storyline of the song. Also, Madison reveals that she had complete control over the song’s production.
I can’t even believe it’s out. a year ago, I remember not being able to sleep and so of course I ended up dragging myself out of bed and going to the studio. and I swear this is one of the quickest songs I’ve ever written. I immediately connected with the storyline of it and it quickly became one of my favorite originals. this is the first song I’ve EVER released where I’ve done everything- producing, recording, mixing, mastering, the whole sha-bang. it’s nerve-wracking to put something like that out there in the world, but I hope you guys dig it so we can all share in the mutual terror of adulthood. During the COVID-10 pandemic, Madison has been living with her parents outside of Albany, New York. However, she’s been playing live stream shows while writing, producing and releasing new music.

A few weeks ago, the singer dropped the official music video for “Reason,” a song released over the summer, and written and produced by Pat Gasperini. Directed by Christian Lawrence, Madison shot the video out in the woods and at times in the middle of a lake. She looks cold!
