Madison VanDenburg American Idol Hometown Visit Highlights (VIDEO)

American Idol finalist Madison VanDenburg returned home to Albany, New York to a hero’s welcome Tuesday (May 14). Ahead of Sunday’s finale, the Top 3 contestants, including Laine Hardy and Alejandro Aranda all headed home to celebrate with friends and family ahead of Sunday’s 3 hour live coast to coast finale airing on ABC. One of them will be crowned the new American Idol.

Madison visited Shaker High School, where she is currently a junior, for a pep rally. Later in the day, the singer participated in a parade and performed a concert at the Crossing at Colonie. At the high school, Madison attended a pep rally with her classmates.  They prepared a big surprise for her–a performance of Imagine Dragons’ “On Top of the World.”

“When I was here two months ago, I don’t even know how many people knew I liked to sing,” she told the Times Union.

Report from CBS6 Albany

The northeast was literally pounded by a Nor’easter yesterday! It was pouring rain during Madison’s concert. She sang Alicia Keys’ “Fallin,” “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana, Kelly Clarkson’s “Already Gone,” Janis Joplin’s “Piece of My Heart,” and Dan + Shay’s “Speechless.”

“This is incredible … this is crazy. I’m hyperventilating right now,” Madison said to the crowd. “If you’re thinking about going for something as crazy as ‘American Idol,’ do it. I auditioned in a bus stop in Buffalo and now I’m here in the top three and it’s been a dream come true.” She mentions that Katy Perry is the judge she relates to most.
