Good for American Idol season 7 alum, Kristy Lee Cook, still out there making music! Rolling Stone Country, no less, is previewing her brand new song.
“Lookin’ For A Cowgirl’ describes me to a T,” the singer told the magazine while on break from a hunting trip, about the song co-written with Bridgette Tatum, the “mastermind” behind Jason Aldean’s hit “She’s Country.”
Kristy Lee is working with production team New Voice (consisting of members of Aldean’s band — Kurt Allison, Tully Kennedy, Rich Redmond and David Fanning) on an upcoming album. “We wanted to write a song that was for country girls, and this one pretty much describes me perfectly. I’m just happy that I get the chance to really be me as an artist.”
You might remember Kristy Lee starred in a sports reality show on cable where she hunted deer with special celebrity guests. Besides singing, outdoor sports are her thing.
“Being a female in the country music world right now is tough,” Kristy Lee concedes. “Aside from just a few women, the men seem to own it.”
Kristy Lee isn’t allowing a tough market to deter her. The singer has been writing quite a bit–partnering with Tatum frequently in the post 3 years.
“She is one of my favorite people to write with because we are like two peas in a pod,” said Kristy Lee. “And when we get together we can really write some fun country songs, because we are both true country girls.”
The tune will be available on iTunes Monday. No word on when we can expect that next album. We’re not even sure if she’s still with Broken Bow records, a label that signed her a few years ago. More will be revealed, soon, I’m sure.
