The Masked Singer 11 Group A Returns: Who Was Unmasked on Transformers Night?
The Masked Singer season 11 Group A returns on week 5 with a DOUBLE ELIMINATION and a Transformers 40th anniversary celebration. Nick Cannon hosts, while Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, and Ken Jeong sit on the judges panel alongside new judge, Rita Ora.
The returning mystery celebrities include Group A contestants Ugly Sweater, Goldfish, Lovebird and Starfish plus a new wildcard. TWO celebrities will be unmasked by the end of the night.
Optimus Prime from Transformers takes the stage to deliver a message. “We are ready!”
Starfish
Clues: Growing up she played the jukebox. She loved music and joined a band. Merch table.
Performance: 21 Guns by Green Day – FOX previewed this performance earlier today. This outing is better than the Madonna cover last time. Starfish has a voice that is OK for alternative music. But she sings like someone who doesn’t sing on a regular bases. Her voice lacks character and vibrato. On Stage Clue delivered by Optimus Prime! “A true teammate, Starfish has won awards as part of a team.” Jenny guesses Amy Poehler. Robin guesses Tina Fey. Rita guesses Maya Rudolph.
Prediction: It’s likely that Starfish is The Office and Dancing with the Stars alum, Kate Flannery. See the link above for all the clues! The Office won acting awards during its prime, so that’s a clue.
Ugly Sweater
Clues: His wife is his soulmate. His life was unravelling. She was couture. He was on top of the charts, she didn’t know who he was.
Performance: Brick House by Commodores – Ugly Sweater is probably a legacy artist from the 70s or 80s or maybe 90s. He knows his way around a song. Soulful and growly. Bumblebee from Transformers also bringing clues. “Lifetime achievement award.” Jenny guesses Lionel Richie. LOL. Celebrities don’t sing their own songs. And Lionel would never. Robin guesses Charlie Wilson. Rita guesses Smokey Robinson. NO. It doesn’t sound like him at all.
Prediction: The internets agree with Robin. Ugly Sweater is the iconic soul singer, Charlie Wilson.
Lovebird
Clues: He sang Phillips Philips’ “Home” last time. As a kid he was obsessed with Transformers. The world got to know him as somebody he wasn’t. The truth set him free. He’s tried to use his fame for good.
Performance: All That You Are by Goo Goo Dolls. Like last time, Lovebird can kinda sorta carry a tune, but he sings with a flat and nasal tone. He’s not a singer. But he seems nice! On Stage Clue: “Lovebird has made television history before.” Rita guesses The Situation. Robin guesses Nick Viall or Colton Underwood. Ken guesses Dwayne Johnson. BOOO. Nobody likes that guess.
Goldfish
Clues: She thought she’d marry young like her mother. She wasn’t lucky and sees her exes everywhere. There are plenty of fish in the sea.
Performance: Baby Come Back by Player – Goldfish is the best singer out of Group A. And she’s singing to a car. It’s a Transformers thing. Which I barely get because I’ve never seen one Transformers movie or show or whatever. She sings a bit in a high register that’s almost a whistle tone. She’s not going anywhere. On Stage Clue: Oh the car turned into Bumblebee. Because that’s what Transformers are. Cars that turn into robots. She pours her tears into her work. Bumblebee shouldn’t mumble. Jenny guesses Sarah Hyland. WHAT? Ken guesses Kristen Stewart. These guesses are idiotic. Rita guesses Nina Dobrev.
Prediction: The internets say Goldfish is Vanessa Hudgens. Which, interestingly, is a favorite guess from the judges! But they haven’t used it yet. Vanessa sampled this song on her first hit. Also Vanessa filmed a vampire movie in 2015 titled Freaks of Nature.
Koala – WILDCARD
Clues: FAKE AUSTRALIAN ACCENT. He wasn’t superstar material. He wasn’t good at interviews. After his first hit, he was forced to speak up. It took me awhile to find my voice.
Performance: Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears. He’s performing outside the studio next to a firetruck. Finally, he enters from offstage. His voice is pretty bland. But he manages to stay on key. On Stage Clue: “He’s on a short list with some of the greatest of all time.” Robin guesses Michael Irvin. Ken guesses Deion Sanders. Rita guesses Terry Crews.
First Unmasking
The first singer of the night going home is…Lovebird. Final guesses: Robin: Josh DeMille Rita: The Situation. Ken: Dwayne Johnson. Jenny: Colton Underwood. I think Jenny is on to something. And the Lovebird is…Colton Underwood! Because he said something about the truth setting him free. After he starred as the Bachelor, he came out as gay, and the first Bachelor contestant to do so. Hence the “making history” clue. No sing-out!
Second Unmasking
The next singer going home is…Koala we hardly knew ye! Final guesses: Rita: Terry Crews, Ken: Deion Sanders, Jenny: Shannon Sharpe Robin: Michael Irvin. And Koala is…Demarcus Ware. He used to sack quarterbacks. He calls it one of the funnest experiences he’s ever had.
