Kris Allen – Send Me All Your Angels – Barefoot Bash

Kris Allen debuted a live version of “Send Me All Your Angels” last night at the Barefoot Bash for TOMS shoes at Heifer Village in Little Rock AR.

The song, co-written by Kris and Idol alum, Chris Daughtry last fall, was a bonus track on the Idol winner’s debut album.

Kris also sang “Man in the Mirror” and reflected on his recent experience in Rwanda, helping TOMS deliver shoes to those in need.

Update: “Send Me All Your Angels”, “Man in the Mirror” and “Live Like We’re Dying” from AINow.org.

  1. Sounds like this was a great event. Kris also sang LLWD. Here is vid of him doing MitM and LLWD, and another vid of him doing SMAYA that also gets some of the Rwanda video they showed during the performance.

  2. Thanks for posting this, MJ. There is also an interview with him on Channel 7 news. http://cfc.katv.com/videoondemand.cfm?id=62637

‘Send Me All Your Angels’ sounds really pretty live. It was funny when he messed up the opening chords and had to restart. He said something like, ‘I messed up … in my own hometown!’ (edited thanks to someone who was there)

  3. I was there last night and I hope that all Kris fans get the chance to hear him sing live. He is absolutely incredible. It has also made me a lot more “Zen” about the whole busing he gets from American Idol. After seeing how amazing he is I know,in my heart, that he will be fine. He is just so happy to be performing and helping others. There was also a video of him with the kids he helped while he was singing “Amazing Grace”. It brought me to tears.

  4. I agree with you oladyrocklover, I think he’ll be just fine. I so hope I’ll be able to meet him live someday. My husband says he’ll take me if he ever comes close enough were we live. I know he’ll be so worth the wait. I love SMAYA on the bonus CD but really love it alot more since I heard him sing this on the video. I hope one of these days he sings Bring It Back live. I would love the live verison of that to add to my I-pod.

  5. His live version of SMAYA is amazing. Especially the bridge part.

I was there last night and I hope that all Kris fans get the chance to hear him sing live. He is absolutely incredible.

I agree. He sounds way way better live. Studio recordings and videos do not give him justice.

  6. TwigLA, Actually, Kris was the one that said “I messed up…in my own home town”. He was truly amazing – hope everyone can see him live someday. The slide shows and video were also very touching – he is a true humanitarian.

MJ, thanks for posting my videos. My first attempt – didn’t turn out too bad. However, he is absolutely incredible live. No video or recording can do justice to his talent.

  7. From this video (the sound is really clear: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvnWOfGfOmY&playnext_from=TL&videos=PTnYlXZwLwk ) it seems that he forgot to put the capo on his guitar so then this funny banter between him and Cale follows:
K:let’s start over, I just ruined the moment, sorry C:that will be on the news, K: Kris messes up..in his own hometown C:welcome back to Arkansas
    LOL!!!
I’m really happy that he finally did a new song, when it was unexpected, at least for me (I was so used to the same set list for a long time)and it is a bonus track, which is more surprising, since there are still other songs from the album that he hasn’t sang live yet. But SMAYA maybe was appropriate for the occasion. Maybe the Daughtry influence is really apparent but I love his voice on this song and this live acoustic version is really good. The change he made on “trying to turn this all around” is AMAZING! I can’t stop listening to this part. I hope that he continues to sing it live and that he will start soon to add more new songs in his set list.

  8. What a treat to get a live performance of SMAYA!! This is one of my favorite tracks on the CD. The craziness of the idol fandom sometimes makes you forget about what is important in life. I am so happy that my idol is involved in such a great cause and that he is such a giving person. Being amazingly talented is just a bonus.

  9. Ain’t that the truth @washyourhands. I was so wonderfully surprised when I opened my twitter and this gem was there, it made my whole day! As soon as my hubby woke up, I showed him and it put a huge smile on his face. My husband and I so rarely agree on anything, especially music, that it is nice to have someone we both love! Kris and Cale are so truly special and I feel lucky to witness them both grow as musician. I hope that they feel the love and support we have for them.

  10. yay! a new kris thread…just listened to the performance, and while SMAYA is not one of my favourites in the album, i love this version. as usual kris puts his heart and soul into the song, and takes it to a whole new level.

the only problem i had with the video was kris’s face was not clear, it was pure white. maybe, kris is an secret angel. singing SMAYA makes more sense that way.

  11. Thanks for the separate thread MJ.

Dang it I’m late for work, I have to catch up later, but I saw SMAYA video last night and it was so beautiful. Kris’ acoustic is just special; I like BWCU acoustic better too.

  12. I love “Send Me All Your Angels”, and wish that the song was on the regular album. Kris’ voice during the song is just so amazing, and filled with emotion. I really hope that at some point he gets to perform the song with Chris Daughtry.

  13. It’s so exciting to see Kris is adding songs to his set list. A week from Saturday Kris is performing at the Atlantis resort. Just him, (no other acts), so it’ll be interesting how long his concert will be, and if does any other new things. Can’t wait!!!!

  14. Thanks MJ for bringing this over from the other general thread .
Just want to thank you girlygirl again in case you didn’t see it , for the MP3 of SMYA as I was unable to purchase this bonus track!!I had only heard this once before but now am really loving this track!

So Kris seems to be chanelling “Beatles week” on AI with his hair here on this video- looks a bit like Archies!!

  15. WOW, WOW, and more WOW !!!! SMAYA was so absolutely gorgeous vocally. Works perfect acoustic. Guuhhh… I can’t stop listening to it.. I was so hoping Kris would do this for his Idol performance benefitting Haiti… That would have been awesome..But considering it’s a bonus track only on the Walmart CD, I don’t know how they would have done it.. Either way, I’m so Excited to finally hear Kris sing this LIVE…. Absolutely Stunning !!!!! Lucky to all of you who got to go and see him sing this in person. Love him singing in barefeet =) and thanks Connie for taking the time to video this and upload it…. we appreciate it.

  16. time for a new single!!!! There are so many possibilities. I thought All Right with Me — but you know, Send Me All Your Angels is great in this rendition, and so heartfelt. It won’t sell anymore of his albums, but that’s kinda over anyway, right? The main thing is keep this guy on the charts — he’s soooooo good, and so consistently good.

I don’t think, so far this year, anyone on Idol 9 can touch him. And the humanity that comes through, so quietly, with no pretentiousness. Pocket Idol rules!

  17. Another great performance. Thanks for sharing! When I first heard that he and Chris D. were collaborating on a song I thought, Ehhh, but it turned out great. He sounds amazing.

I hadn’t really heard SMAYA but a few times before on You-Tube since I downloaded KATA from i-tunes but,you are right, this would have been a perfect song for the Haiti trip. But I would hate to not have that wonderful “Let It Be” performance on my i-pod. I know that Kris said that he wouldn’t be on Idol’s Give Back but it would be great if they could show his Haiti trip with this song in the background. Thank you so much Connie for these videos. I selfishly just wanted to listen to Kris without having to worry about videoing but I did record him on my I-Phone and had a wonderful time listening to him and Cale as I drove home from the event.

I agree about the new single. I’m so happy the LLWD is still selling so well but I think that as long as sells are strong Jive is probably in no hurry to release a second single. I remember back with Kelly Clarkson and “Already Gone” that it was quite a while after it peaked before a new single was released so I guess this is the norm. I’m still impatient, though.

But you are right about Kris’s consistency. Hearing him live is amazing. His voice is perfection.

  20. Love, love, love this acoustic version. Of course, I think a singer like Kris is pretty much best just straight up acoustic. I think, for me, it made SMAYA better than the CD version, which is really good. I just think the backbeat is so Daughtry (kinda boring).

Kris is doing so much good — keep it up.

Don’t really like the hair here :( but still adorable! Cale too!

  21. Very nice! Wish he’d have a show in the DC area, I’d love to catch him live. Maybe sometime soon, please? :)

  22. on the shallow side, i agree with areyouin… Kris, please don’t revert to your pre-idol hair, it makes you look like 16yrs old

  23. I now have this version of SMAYA in rotation on my iPod…love it!

Looking forward to seeing more videos from the One Day Without Shoes event at UCA today.

  24. After seeing how amazing he is I know,in my heart, that he will be fine. He is just so happy to be performing and helping others.

Thank you oladyrocklover for these words. They brought tears in my eyes. I worry way too much about Kris success. Inside AI bubble everything is bigger issue than it would be in everywhere else and sometimes I don’t remember it. But, I have noticed that in videos Kris usually seems to be happy and found that comforting.

  25. Woo Hoo for a Kris thread! He is such an amazing person. Thank you so much for the SMAYA video and mp3 link!

  26. Just woke up (it’s still kinda early here) and could not wait to see if MJ had a separate thread………and of course she did!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you MJ!

I’ve been lurking for too long here…………every day I would tell myself it is okay, it does not matter what others are saying……..Kris is happy and feels blessed winning AI………his life is better for it……..and it’s so true……the rewards will come, they already have for me….. every time I hear him sing from his heart and talk about what helping impoverished people even in the smallest way have meant to him!

Just love this thread today and seeing so many great posts & updates from Kris fans……….I’m happy to be back……thank you everyone!! :)

  27. Thank you connie0128 and all the others who brought us these videos! I really appreciate it.

I just thought today that as much as I love Kris acoustic, I miss performances with the whole band. First of all, I think they are visually more interesting as there is all kind of interaction and Kris is more free to move. And secondly, I prefer the sound of band with multiple instruments. But if Kris didn’t perform with the band anymore, I’d take the acoustic Kris :) I wouldn’t get bored watching Kris’ expressions when he sings ;)

It’s funny how we all worry so much about Kris’s success in the music business when all the while he is probably more worried about putting on a good performance and helping little kids. I guess that’s why we love him so much. His priorities are in the right place.

  29. Did anyone see the Today Show this morning? They were supposed to have a segment on TOMS shoes and I was hoping the would show some of Kris’s trip to Rwanda.

  30. After seeing how amazing he is I know,in my heart, that he will be fine. He is just so happy to be performing and helping others.

This is so well said, so thank you for that. Reading that brought me back to Kris and his reaction to his hometown visit for Top 3 last season, where he was just so amazed and so thankful to the people. Kris doesn’t seem to comprehend how many people he has touched with his music and his approach to life. Seeing how much helping these kids means to him is just amazing.

  31. Did you see Kris’s reaction when a few people in the front of the audience gasped when he said he was going to play LLWD? He is so funny! He really interacts so well with the audience now, especially when the venue isn’t real big. He was never nervous on stage even during the AI show, but he is just so relaxed and confident when he performs live these days. And I love how he’s able to make fun of himself, like he did when he forgot to put the capo on his guitar and they had to start SMAYA over.

  32. That tweet was so funny wet instead of wear. Loved when he was talking about the boy named (Freddie).

  33. “Did you see Kris’s reaction when a few people in the front of the audience gasped when he said he was going to play LLWD? He is so funny!”
Yes, girlygirl that was funny. This is one of the many reasons why I love the acoustic shows (that doesn’t mean that I don’t like full-band shows too, there I can appreciate other things)

“It was a transforming kind of thing; you go out there to help people, and you come back changed”
I hope this change in himself drives him to do more humanitarian work in the future and I’m sure he will but I will also love if his experiences in Haiti or Rwanda inspire him to write a song or two like “Land of Smiles” from BNS.

  34. Oh my goodness girlygirl when that video flashed the close up of Kris I almost gasped out loud!! Here I am trying to be all positive & heartfelt today and then BAM that gorgeous face appeared and I dove straight into the shallow end! :) :)

  35. Love the arkansasonline video and yeah, MrsB, he does cause a crowd in the shallow end. LOL

So many reasons to love Kris but his enthusiasm when talking about helping others juxtapose to talking about himself – well, his sweet modesty just makes me proud I’m a fan.

  36. First of all, I think they are visually more interesting as there is all kind of interaction and Kris is more free to move. And secondly, I prefer the sound of band with multiple instruments.

I agree. I certainly enjoy hearing him when he is strictly acoustic with Cale (or Andrew), but I do prefer him with his entire band.

  37. Had not looked at pics yet…….since I’m hooked on Kris singing and his low speaking voice……….BUT I must thank mmk28 & Mtlfan for these different pics from Rwanda, they are absolutely gorgeous!
What a fabulous trip that must have been for Kris & Katy.

  39. where do we get tour info for kris? just wanna know whats ahead for him in the next coupla months. and will he be headlining a tour of his own?

  40. “where do we get tour info for kris? just wanna know whats ahead for him in the next coupla months. and will he be headlining a tour of his own?”

The answer should be his website but unfortunately it doesn’t have all the events and the various radio shows but here is the link: http://www.krisallenofficial.com/us/events
mj has the upcoming Idol appearences here: http://mjsbigblog.com/idol-appearances
I have also found a calendar from a fan that has ALL Kris’s shows. I think that’s the most complete. http://30boxes.com/public/8118286/KrisAllenFan/c3ec7e002ee7f0c6602deec96b6854b8/0/
For now I don’t think he will be headlining his own tour. He is either doing radio shows or opening for bigger acts. New shows are being added almost every day.

  41. Thanks for the separate thread, MJ and thanks to everyone else who contributed with other Kris Allen links & pics.

Kris is such a lovely boy, he just radiates joy when he performs.
His live take on SMAYA is so heartfelt and effortless.

As fans we worry so much, that he’s not getting enough attention by the media or the idol folks or his label are not treating him right etc, but watching these performances and the interview where he talks about Freddie, none of that BS seems to matter. It clearly doesn’t matter to Kris. He doesn’t want to be the next big SUPASTAR!BLAH!!BLAH!!

He just wants to do his part and make a difference. He just wants to make music, beautiful music. And that’s exactly what he’s doing and I’m so happy for him!

  42. Thanks everyone for all that is posted here! The acoustic SMAYA is amazing!

FWIW, I like the new hairstyle. I think the whole bang(s) thingy is coming back.

As far as the upcoming shows go, it seems like there are a lot radio shows, so I’m really, really hoping this is in conjunction w/ announcing the new single!!!!!!!! Jive? Jive? Anyone? Anyone? Jive?

Once again, so proud to be a fan for the many reasons listed in these posts!

ETA: oh yeah and thanks to mj!!! :D

  43. thanks mmk28 for the tour info, though i wouldn’t in a million years be going to one of kris’s concerts in the near future. unless he decides an asian tour again. but youtube vids r always welcome.

nice to hear kris talking shoes in the 2nd vid. i remember some years back a photo was circulated of kids on africa wearing flattened plastic bottles for shoes. so its nice that TOMS making a world of difference to those kids. should follow them in their work.

on a shallow note, loving the bangs!

  44. I’m overwhelmed by the video of Kris’ performances, the pics, articles and videos of his speech, and by all of the Kris fans who post so eloquently about why he’s so special to us. What a truly beautiful human bein he is, on top of his extraordinary talent.

Joining everyone in the shallow end, he’s never looked better, oh, and that close up….

Thanks MJ! Great thread all around!

  45. okay Mtlfan you need to stop providing these kind of pics today…………I may be retired but I am neither deaf nor blind as yet………..holey moley would you check out that left bicep!! Nice Kris, very nice indeedy :) A little window dressing to go along with that solid goodness!

  46. MrsB……….lol … shame on me I didn’t even noticed the bicep!

I have still to see a picture of his hairy feet.. lolll
And isn’t it the perfect day to get one? bwahaha

  47. Mtlfan …….I remember girlygirl posting one & referring to “Hobbit feet” since they were hairy. :) Think it was when he was in those fab Asia vids we had going for awhile but I’m not positive!!! They were not nearly as attractive as that bicep! LOL- lots funnier though!!

  48. As for the shallow dept we are all there. I’m just struck by all these goodness we’ve had these past week. What else could we ask for?

I’m very happy that I’m not the only one who is happy with whatever Kris has going for him so far. I think he’s doing very well and we are all going to be suprised when his earnings are disclosed in future.

The guy hasn’t sat on his b*tt for long since he finihed the AI tour and the number of shows besides radio ones, I can’t count them, so y’all should chill.

On the shallow note , this woman totally agree with all of us and was proud to say it.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wGTPkZ4r6U

  49. Kris video interview with Arkansas Online talking about his trip to Rwanda (in particular about a little boy named Freddie) and why he gets involved with charitable projects like this.

I have a lot to catch up on, but manage just to see this video.
I feel that that’s why Kris never seemed to get nervous on AI stage.
After all his experiences all over the world seeing all kind of devastations and diff kinds of life, I don’t think he cared at all about impressing the AI judges, thus he was relaxed and just be who he was and nailed his performances. Good for him and for us his fans.

I saw the Today’s show segment. It was just about the founder and his company. How he build it and combine his business and charities.
I did not know that TOM’s is from TOMORROW’s shoes – meaning buy shoes today so there is someone that can wear one tomorrow, basically. He just couldn’t fit in the whole word in there, so he shortened it to TOM’s. The company is popular with young people as their employees and volunteers. And by the way this founder (forgot his name) is also a goodlooking guy that apparently couldn’t cared less about his hair. Ha-ha.

  50. I don’t think, so far this year, anyone on Idol 9 can touch him. And the humanity that comes through, so quietly, with no pretentiousness. Pocket Idol rules!

The “problem” with Kris is that he has and is the whole package. He has the voice that is great live AND on record, his ability to pick songs, arrange songs to fit him, humbleness that translate over the TV screen and in actual real life, ability to play multiple instruments, great personality, fun, funny (smile & laugh all the time), fearlessness, the underdog thing, undiscovered talent from a small town, great looking (the camera LOVES his face), good guy image and that IT factor that makes people want to pick up the phone and spend hours voting.
O yeah, and the charitable thing he did that few people even knew back then is a bonus.

Really, if the producer has to put down the traits to be an American Idol, nobody would come up with somebody like Kris. He IS the American Idol. Amazing find. It is just meant to be.

  51. Thanks ratna12 for explaining what is the meaning behind the TOMS company. Great idea!!!
Agree with your Kris portrait … he’s amazing.

  52. The more I hear him, the more I love him. And, I loved him quite a bit to start with! Sucks that I’m going to be out of the country when he’ll be playing around my area.
