Kris Allen: More New Songs Revealed!

Check out the new video series, Realite, from Entertainment Weekly’s Micheal Slezak and Kristen Baldwin!

In this week’s episode, Slezak interviews Kris Allen right after his Z100 premier of the new single “Live Like We’re Dying”, and they discuss two more songs Kris recorded for his upcoming album.

  • “Written All Over Your Face” is penned by the peeps who wrote “Live Like We’re Dying.”   Slezak describes it as   “wordy and catchy.”   Kris heard the song early on, along with “Live Like We’re Dying” and loved it.   He said it will probably make the album.
  • “Before We Come Undone” is a song Kris wrote that with Lindy Robbins and Greg Kursten (Lily Allen, Flaming Lips, Beck). The track is unfinished. “We’re going to do some tweaks to it to make it better, ” he adds, “The lyrics are…not so happy.”
  • “I Need To Know”–a song Kris wrote–is his favorite of the songs he’s recorded so far, according to an interview with New York radio station, WPLJ.

The rest of Realite features funny and insightful commentary on your fav reality shows, like Dancing with the Stars and Project Runway. Good stuff!

Also, “Live Like We’re Dying”, released to iTunes yesterday, is sitting at #28 on the overall iTunes songs chart.

another LLWD? oh boy! i guess this kids wants to go the rap/reggae route

  2. Basically, Realit is Idolatry adapted to all the reality shows of the fall, but at least this one had some big scoop with the 2 new songs revealed.

Have you heard those songs too Mj?

  3. The fire alarm went off because his song was Smokin’, now that’s the salemanship I was talking about yesterday. That’s what you need to do.

  4. I loved this video. I am so glad that we don’t have to wait until January to see Kristen and Michael together again. I also love that they had Kris throughout the show. It’s great to see him so happy. I can’t wait for his album to come out!

  5. That part was very funny sunny2! Kris seems to shine when he feels comfortable with the interviewer.

  6. I’m sitting in a waiting room at the car dealership watching Realite… I think my fellow waiters think I’m some sort of goon. I loved the whole thing – and I don’t really follow any of those other shows, but Michael and Kristen cracked me up!

I loved how Michael slid in those new song references. Given all the Rickey drama from earlier this week, I’d love to hear first-hand impressions of the songs that are floating out there. Are these previews intentional leaks to certain media? Are they intended to guage reaction before deciding whether they will make the album, or are they already decided on for the album and are ‘leaked’ to generate buzz?

  7. “Before We Come Undone” – Slezak described it has having an urgency to it and being angsty. Omg, I need this song in my life.

Pretty much any song Kris wrote on needs to be in my life like…5 days ago.

  8. Jim Cantiello also heard the 4 songs

    # Congrats to @EWMichaelSlezak. Ralit rocks! http://bit.ly/rMtSQ (And u sneaky devil asking about those ‘other’ songs we heard. I concede.)20 minutes ago from web

Oh, cool. I didn’t know he heard them, too. He and Slezak are like the biggest Kris fans in the media. Haha. Someone tweeted Jim about the whole Rickey thing and he told them that he thought he was just pulling a Perez.

  10. So, yet another Kris song was written by the guys from The Script? Sounds like Sony is using Kris to help promote their new golden group. Interesting.

  11. To me it sounds like Kris likes the Script and their music and is excited to have the chance to work with them. I really like the part where he says that they “have to prove themselves because they are just getting into the music business”. He seems to understand that he was given a rare opportunity and he is going to work very hard to be able to make this a successful career for himself. I can’t wait until November to hear his album.

  12. So both Slezak and Jim Cantiello, and Rickey’s resources heard these three songs. I know nothing about publish songs, but why Jiva leaked out unfinished songs? Are they testing the water?

Slezak described the content of ‘Written All Over Your Face’ (wordy and catchy), but is he or Jim allowed to give their opinion about the song, like good or bad? Rickey’s resource seemed not liking it. Rickey is assy and not reliable. I want to know opinions from others who also heard the songs.

  13. The guys from The Script did not even write ‘Live Like We’re Dying’. So you might wanna re-evaluate that statement.

Um, pretty sure they did. According to BMI:

LIVE LIKE WE RE DYING (Legal Title)
    BMI Work #9420455
    FRAMPTON ANDREW MARCUS
    KIPNER STEVE
    O DONOGHUE DANIEL JOHN
    SHEEHAN MARK ANTHONY

WRITTEN ALL OVER MY FACE (Legal Title)
    BMI Work #9420456
    FRAMPTON ANDREW MARCUS
    KIPNER STEVE
    O DONOGHUE DANIEL JOHN
    SHEEHAN MARK ANTHONY

Danny O’Donoghue and Mark Sheehan are members of The Script.

  14. To me it sounds like Kris likes the Script and their music and is excited to have the chance to work with them.

I don’t think Kris “worked with them” on LLWD. It was a song they wrote and recorded with no help from Kris.

  15. Loved Realite . I couldn’t agree more with Kristen and Michael regarding all of their show comments.

  16. “Realite” is great. LOL to Kristen and Slezak. Man, have to give it to Kristen, the girl’s got stones.

Ironic that they’re using the “wordy and catchy” formula ‘“ that’s how I’d describe NoBo, but I enjoy LLWD very much and can’t wait to hear the rest.

  17. I speculated that Slezak is the one who leaked the songs to Rickey and I still think that. Jim is positive and would not be seeing doom, but Michael= conspiracy theorist. I like Michael’s show, but I can see him being the one to relay the info to Rickey framed in the tone that Rickey delivered it. Thing is, Michael is smart enough to not write about it when the album isn’t even finished. Reading that Michael heard the songs just makes me go hmmmmmmm.

I obvs don’t know anything. Just speculating.

You are right . Of cource Kris didn’t work with the Script on LLWD
(O DONOGHUE DANIEL JOHN, SHEEHAN MARK ANTHONY,GLEN POWER) but he worked with the producers of the song FRAMPTON ANDREW MARCUS, KIPNER STEVE to create his version. Also he will work with these guys again when he goes to London.

  19. Kris on LLWD:

“We’re so proud of the song, and I feel like I made it my own. . .”

Love ya Kris, but please don’t say that any more. Your rendition is an exact replica of the Script singer’s vocal.

Also, Kris calls the other song “Written All Over My Face” — I assume that’s just a slip of the tongue, and Slezak has the correct title.

  20. You assume incorrectly, I think. The listing in the songwriters database says “Written All Over My Face.”

I feel really, really bad for Kris. Maybe it’s just me but from those interviews I’m getting the impression that he’s not very comfortable promoting the song as his own either. Like it’s been slapped on him by Jive/19E… Poor BB.

  22. Can someone please tell me what Rickey said or posted? I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks.

  23. :-) so you can just guess what Kradam fans are making of these 3 songs

—: Just watched Slezak’s Realite. Have all the Kradam fangirls imploded yet?

—: BEFORE WE COME UNDONE? I SMELL KRADAM!

—: “BEFORE WE COME UNDONE” & FUCKING “WRITTEN ALL OVER YOUR FACE”. OMFG….KRADAM SONGS KRADAM SONGS. PLEASEEEEE.

  24. Jim Cantiello has also heard the songs and tweeted that they were “unfinished demos”. Why float those out there, if they might be rough? I know that Jim and Michael are both HUGE Kris stans, but the chances for inadvertent leaks just increases, and an unfinished demo isn’t ideal, Rickey’s meltdown being the prime example.

  25. I doubt it was Slezak. He’s a credible journalist and kept LLWD a secret for over a week.

Who knows what chaos reigns on the Adam and Allison front — no one. I disagree about LLWD. Kris did make it his own. I’m a fan of The Script, but Kris made the song a hell of a lot better. Rusty Halo by The Script carries a lot of religious meaning and the vocals are a definite Police/Sting vibe. I think Kris connects with this group’s musical style.

In the long run, if the specualtion is true by certain people on this blog who think that Kris does not have a rabid AI fanbase, it would be a godsend. David Cook has been working his butt off trying to encourage a younger demographic for his music. When I went to a DC concert, I was surprised to see so many older women. I wondered what DC thought when the houselights went up and he scanned the crowd. I saw the wheels turning. I’m sure he appreciates all the support, but he does need a different demographic to stay current in the music scene.

If Kris needs to work from a grassroots level with his music, so be it. If Jive chooses not to stay the course for future potential growth, then Kris will most certainly have other options in the record industry. I do want Kris to break away from AI as soon as possible. As the winner, he might not be able to do it so easily.

After weeks and weeks of being told that Kris Allen was the underdog that label has stuck. (I never believed it.) It most certainly puts a damper on things, making the Kris fans less vocal, and more cautiously optimistic, quietly supporting Kris, but taking a wait and see attitude.

Lady Gaga and Katy Perry took some time to blow up on the music scene. DC’s Album was outselling both of theirs for a very long time. Sure they moved their singles, but CD sales were low. No one can predict what will take off and what might not.

Last season, I’m certain David A. had his dad watching out for him about album deets, and David Cook, himself, said his friend and band guitarist, Neil Teiman, was there all the time working on the album, keeping an eye things, watching his back. Does Kris, Adam or Allison have someone there for them? I hope so.

Kris is smart. Though, as a Kris fan, I will remain cautiously optimistic. It’s just my nature anyway. It ain’t over ’til it’s over.

  26. Realite is good!!! and i love slezak but whats up with his matching shirt with kris!!! coincidence? errr i think not….

  27. The guy has a single everyone seems to like. It seems to be doing well. He’s out there promoting it. He seems to like the other songs he’s got for his album. The song could have sucked and interviewers and press could have hated it, and he could have a rotten personality that makes it impossible for the press or public to support him. None of that is the case. I’m glad for him. I have no problem with the song, or what he says about it, or his interviews, or anything else. So I guess we all see things differently.

  28. Kris on LLWD:

‘We’re so proud of the song, and I feel like I made it my own. . .’

I see it breaking down like this. Kris was presented LLWD and liked it. Shortly after, he recorded the vocals with the producers advising him on the arraingment. In typical fashion Kris never sang the the whole song from end to end. It was recorded in stages. The producers put the song together to fit their mold and with Jive’s approval created the mess we are in today. Kris never heard the finished product until recently.

  29. evanjane & ross:

I love LLWD, and am excited with the new details on other songs, especially that Kris is getting co-writing credits on some. Kris proved with BNS and on Idol that he has a very high musical IQ and has excellent instincts. He’s one smart dude. Kris has got this covered, I’m not worried.

To those who think this is a big mess/problem/controvery: it’s in your mind, dude. No mess here.

    Kris on LLWD:

I really don’t know about this… The vocal inflections in the song are almost exactly the same as The Scripts’. Maybe the producers placed sheet music right in front of him based on The Scripts’ version and Kris was told to sing exactly like how it was written… The similarities between the two songs are too much.

I have nothing against covers. Some of my favourite songs are covers. But I really disagree with complete copies. I don’t blame Kris for this fiasco. I just can’t believe Jive tried to pull off something like this.

  31. I love Kris, and Slezak is growing on me partly because he seems to love Kris too. The interview was good. I kinda want Kris to open up his lungs and chest, take deeper breaths and project with a bit more power. But, that said, the boy is charming and chill and receptive. He always comes across well to me. Like a son or a best friend.

  32. Ryan’s line of questioning seemed completely designed to undermine Kris.

They both said the same thing, Ryan in fast radio talk and Slezak in hallway chatter. If I say “you’re ugly” in a cutsie poopsie way, did I not just call you ugly?

  33. Jim Cantiello has also heard the songs and tweeted that they were ‘unfinished demos’ .

Finished songs in the can turn into “unfinished demos” pretty quickly when the people getting leaked copies start sniffing like someone farted when they hear them.

“Oh, yeah…of course, these are rough cuts. Totally unfinished. They won’t sound anything like this after we’ve worked on ’em some more…”

When the release date is moved back, you know the “unfinished demos” have cleared the room and the label needs time for major fumigation. (See McPhee, chick). In most cases with an Idol stinkbomb, the label will just go ahead and release it to get the holiday souvenir sales, but quietly kill all the promotion so they aren’t pouring good money after bad. Then, they tell the artist to do a Christmas album (cheap to produce, recoup some of the investment) as a way of saying, “Thanks for playing and here are some lovely parting gifts….”

  34. Slezak and Kristen are hysterical, and clearly tuned into various fan groups (see their subtitles and use of “benches”). Kris can do great interviews when he is relaxed. This explanation of the genesis of LLWD is much, much better than he did with Ryan. Listen to this over and over Kris, and repeat it next time! I like the song, and I’m happy for him that he’s happy. He has no poker face. It would be obvs if he wasn’t.

  35. He’s a credible journalist and kept LLWD a secret for over a week.

Not really. He went totally fan-girly and wrote about how everyone in America would be rolling down their car windows and singing in unison to the chorus of the song.

  36. I love the song. I’ve never heard of The Script. I think that I might like The Script if they always write music that is this good. Covers are done all the time and they don’t have to be drastically different than the original. I’m not even sure that Kris could have changed it up dramatically. Where in the song could you make big alterations? Slezak sounded gentler than Ryan but as sidewalkstory just said, they have different mediums and speeds to work in. I don’t think that either was out to get Kris. Unfortunately, they are all asking about ‘the irrelevant’ in typical journalistic style.

  37. Where in the song could you make big alterations?

Are you really asking? I would:

    a) slow it down a bit so it’s not so frenetic. The song would be much better just a tad slower.

    b) Get rid of the synth strings. They are so smarmy.

    c) Ditch the calling loved ones from a 9/11 flight. It’s a creepy lyric.

    d) I would like to see a little leaner vocal, like that Tyler kid gave it. I don’t think the highly affected vocal style helps the song much. Part of that is the overly quick tempo. Actually, make the whole thing leaner.

  38. I think Kris and his people do have something to worry about. Any Script fan knows that song is a cover, an exact, verbatim copy of the original. If he had changed the song into something different from the original, then I would say good job. That song has stalled out at #28 for maybe two reasons. #1 It’s the weekend and people are either busy doing something else and they haven’t heard about the release. #2 People have heard and are turned off by the fact that it is an exact copy of the original song. Why would you buy Kris version, when you could buy Script’s. As for the interview with Ryan, he didn’t do anything wrong. He asked the obvious question, which everyone else is going to ask. Kris is not going to get people like Slezak and Jim, who will be sweet and kind to him. He has to learn how to do interviews, especially when they ask questions you don’t like. Kris has to sell his music to people who don’t know him . His fans will buy it, but he needs to reach people outside of the Idol fanbase. Next week should be a lot of talk about Adam’s release, so Kris evenmoreso needs to be talking up his music. If he don’t make an effort, he’s going to buried way down the charts by all the artist coming out with new cd’s. The music business is not who is the nicest person, it’s about who makes music I want to hear and who’s concert am I going to spend my money on.

  39. I wish people would stop harping on about the song being a cover…Unfortunately, they are all asking about ‘the irrelevant’ in typical journalistic style.

Newfan, it’s kinda hard to do. Kris is working with some top talent. Why, oh why, would he go along with an exact cover of someone else’s song? I don’t think it’s his best foot forward. It also just feeds the rumors about the rest of the album.

I believe it’s quite relevant; among the fans as well as among the reviewers. Anyone not asking that would be walking around with horse blinders. It’s too obvious to ignore.

  40. c) Ditch the calling loved ones from a 9/11 flight. It’s a creepy lyric.

Didn’t care for that line either. It was more sad than creepy for me.

  41. Why would you buy Kris version, when you could buy Script’s.

Because you can’t buy The Scripts version? You can steal it.

On topic: ‘Before We Come Undone’ sounds like an interesting song title.

  42. Kris’ position on the chart, to me is not bad. I don’t think that matters.
On the top 100 pop charts, he’s moved up to #15 and looking at the contenders up there, I think he is selling good.
Out of the 14 above him, it’s Miley and glee who released close to Kris’ release time.

    MILEY -08/11/2009
    GLEE -10/06/2009

All the other 12 above Kris released at least more than 3 months ago.
WIth a number of them from last year. I think those people have sold quite a number of records. If so, Kris will be good.

I think it is mainly the first reason although judging from some of the comments on the site of the overlaid version, the second reason also seems to apply to some. However, you can’t easily purchase the Script version in the States.

Again, judging by the 2,811 comments on the overlaid site (or those I read) There are Kris fans making good comments about the Script and Script fans making good comments about
Kris. It looks like the cross promotion is working.

  44. And if your plane fell out of the skies
who would you call with your last goodbyes
should be so careful who we live out our lives
so when we long for absolution
there’ll no one on the line

If you think this is about 9/11 you’re reading too much into it. If it reminds you of that, that’s just your perception, it’s not in the song. There have been crashes in the years since 9/11. I never made that accociation. It’s just a generalization.

  45. I don’t see the point of the cover “controversy”, other than to provide some copy for early press coverage or to provide ammunition for Kris bashers. I know I’m not about to go through my music collection, learn the origins of every song and identify all the covers (because frankly, I have tons of songs that I don’t learn are covers until after I buy them), then toss the ones I deem too similar to the originals.

Whether the single succeeds or fails will, I assume, be dictated by normal music consumption/buying behavior. By which I mean:
    – if you like the song, get it.
    – if you only like the original, then just get that version (and good luck scrounging the internet for someone’s used b-side and/or tracking down an import or overseas copy)
    – if you don’t like the song, don’t get it.

I would just hope that Kris’s “credibility” as an artist gets to be determined not just by his first label-dictated single, but by his overall body of work. That may be too much to ask of some people, though.

  46. If you think this is about 9/11 you’re reading too much into it. If it reminds you of that, that’s just your perception, it’s not in the song. There have been crashes in the years since 9/11. I never made that accociation. It’s just a generalization.

True – it’s all perception. I like the song but it’s not one I could sing along to. Some of the lyrics make me sad…I’m weird like that.

  47. hwc,
I wasn’t kidding. I really was suggesting that there weren’t too many possible alterations. If Kris was, indeed, presented with a pre-existing instrumental backing track, he would only be able to control the vocals and, personally, I think that they were fine (except that they’re overwhelmed in the mix … but that’s a common problem … ).

  48. Newsflash: The Slezak interview with Kris was done on Monday, the morning he was on Z100; the Ryan interview was later in the week. So Kris didn’t somehow “learn” better answers to give Slezak after the Ryan interview. Slezak preceded Ryan.

I interpret Kris’ comments about LLWD to mean he has embraced it as his single, nothing more sinister, disingenuous, insincere, or shallow than that.

As a public service announcement, I’m sure there’s a way to slow down the Slezak interview in super slo-mo, so folks can find split-second facial expressions to criticize, oops I mean to constructively and helpfully point out areas to improve upon. I’m sure Kris appreciates all the concern and advice for every little thing he’s seemingly doing wrong. For me, I love all his interviews (some being only slightly less lovable than others), so my only advice is: Kris, love ya, keep doing what you’re doing.

  49. As far as I can tell, “Written All Over My Face” has never been recorded by The Script or anyone else, so at least no one can harp about that being a cover. But this suggests that the band and their producers like Kris and are happy with his version of LLWD — whether it’s a carbon copy of the original or not (which it isn’t — it is very close to be a carbon copy, but there are some variations in the phrasing, specifically near the end of the song). I don’t care about the “plane falling out the skies” lyric — it doesn’t evoke any fear in me, probably because I’ve been on way too many airplanes in my life to worry about stuff like that. It certainly doesn’t evoke 9/11 to me either — it’s a general lyric, not one that specifically refers to that event. And as I said before, there are a jillion songs out there that have some sort of disturbing lyrics in them, so I’m not sure why Kris is supposed to alter these lyrics while no one else has to alter their songs just because some listeners might find them disturbing.

I’m hoping that once the weekend is over, Jive will give more of a push to promoting this single. Hopefully more stations will start to add LLWD, especially since the response has been generally positive from both listeners and the media. However, even if LLWD desn’t go any higher in the ITunes charts than it is now, that doesn’t necessarily mean Kris is in any trouble. WAY too much premature doom and gloom on this board of late — not just about Kris, but about Adam as well. The Adam thread that was up on here the other day was a crazy thing with all the weird mood swings on it.

I’m very excited to hear Kris’ album. I wish we could skip right to November so I could get Kris’, Adam’s and Allison’s albums without all the angst that will likely continue to build between now and then.

  50. Try walking home on 9/11 with WTC ashes in your hair.

If something like that happens to you, I can imagine that you are more likely to make the connection. I know somebody who actually moved out of NY because he couldn’t deal (nearly got hit with debris from the second plane (he was entering his office building across the street)).

I think Ross’s point is that not everybody goes there. It’s a common enough thing to think about (am I the only one who used to love watching those old Airport movies?). In the old days, people used to write letters to their loved ones. Now, they call. When people survive crashes (like that recent ditching in the Hudson), they called in advance and called when they successfully landed. It’s a commonly referenced situation because in some plane crashes (i.e. when the plane doesn’t explode in mid-air or crash unexpectedly on landing) people have time to think about saying goodbye. You can’t do that in a car crash because it’s done and over in a few seconds. It’s not the same when you get diagnosed with cancer, because you have time to say goodbye. Plane crashes are one of the few times that you sometimes only have a short time to deal with your impending death. So, what would you do with thirty minutes left to live?

Except for the people on the plane that crashed in Philadelphia that day, none of those passengers on the planes seemed to be aware that their plane was going to crash. Up until that point, planes that had been hijacked typically eventually landed somewhere to get gas and a lengthy hostage negotiation took place. Usually, it all ended when the crack commandos stormed the plane. Dangerous? Yes. But survivable. That’s what the hijackers relied upon to keep the passengers subdued. Sure, there were planes that crashed in that situation (e.g. the Ethopian Airlines where the dumbass hijackers didn’t believe the pilot when he told them that they didn’t have enough gas to get all the way to Australia. But even in that case, there was a high rate of surviving amongst those that listened during the pre-flight announcements and DID NOT inflate their freakin’ lifejackets prior to departing the plane).

This song is alluding to the cases when you have a warning that the plane is likely to crash. For instance, the Sioux City crash when they lost all their hydrolics. Or the Gimli Glider case when they ran out of fuel. Or the Swiss Air flight that was on fire. Or tonnes of other cases.

Seriously, if you had ten minutes left to live, what would you do? That’s something people sometimes speculate about (e.g. if you only had three months left to live, what would you do with your time?). I’m not sure what other situation that could be referenced to talk about having only a few minutes left to resolve a lifetime of issues.

  51. As someone who was not invested in this past season and not following Kris or the other S8 idols that closely, I really do not think the “cover” issue is a problem. It’s one of those topics invested fans debate endlessly but really has minimal impact in the real world of radio and sales where most people don’t have such strong feelings about these things. I know The Script has fans, but trust me they are not that well known; most radio listeners won’t care. If the song is catchy and they like it, then it’ll take off. That is the bottom line. The song will rise or fall on whether people like it enough and if Kris’ fans have stuck with him. IMO.

    houstonrufus:

yes! That’s my perspective and my opinion too.

  53. Everyone responds to images or lyrics or words in different ways, I guess. I would never connect the lyrics in LLWD specifically to 9/11 — and I actually had a slight connection to someone who died when his plane crashed into the WTC that day — a co-worker of mine who left behind a pregnant wife. I didn’t know him very well, but I had talked to him several times at work.

The Script are an Irish band. It’s unlikely they had 9/11 specifically in mind when they wrote these lyrics. To me, it’s just a general lyric about what would you do, who would you want to talk to last, if you knew you were about to die — nothing more than that.

  54. when does the song officially go to radio? is that when we’d expect airplay to pick up a bit?

  55. If you think this is about 9/11 you’re reading too much into it. If it reminds you of that, that’s just your perception, it’s not in the song. There have been crashes in the years since 9/11. I never made that accociation. It’s just a generalization.

Sorry. I’m an American. Those images are seared into my conscious. They always will be. Feel free to scold me for it if you like, but it’s not something I can control. My immediate thought hearing that line was a flashback to the phonecalls made to loved ones both from Flight 93 and from the WTC.

  56. Just for some clarification, my problem with Ryan was not the fact that he asked about the song being a cover, but HOW he asked. First he emphasized that Kris would no longer be doing covers and then he asked him why he was doing a cover. *shrugs* Perhaps he just didn’t realize he was making this sound like a set-up, but oh well it’s over now. ;)

Nice to see Michael and Kristen back in action again!!! :)

  57. Seriously, if you had ten minutes left to live, what would you do?

That’s not something I really care to be beat over the head with in a cheezy pop song from a karaoke TV reality contest winner, either — to tell you the truth.

Seriously, if you had ten minutes left to live, what would you do?

LOL, much better to debate (!) it on the interwebs…

  59. ross:

And if your plane fell out of the skies
who would you call with your last goodbyes
should be so careful who we live out our lives
so when we long for absolution
there’ll no one on the line

If you think this is about 9/11 you’re reading too much into it. If it reminds you of that, that’s just your perception, it’s not in the song. There have been crashes in the years since 9/11. I never made that accociation. It’s just a generalization.

It is clear that many, many people immediately thought of 9/11 when they read/heard those lyrics.

The only plane crash that I am aware of where people knew it was going to crash and had time to make 1 cell phone call was on 9/11 when the passengers intentionally crashed the plane in Western PA. Is there another time when this happened?

It really is an unusually set of circumstances. Usually in plane crashes, the passengers only have a couple of minutes, and the procedure is to calmly get everyone into crash positions. There is no time to make a cell phone call — and if you tried, you would be stopped immediately.

  60. luv I don’t think anyone is really debating them. I for one have a reaction to the song. Could have done without the plane reference, but then I don’t expect anyone to even consider changing the lyrics. I think the reference is inconsequential, but you can’t deny the reaction for the small minority. As I listen to Kris’s song, sometimes I get a quick visceral reaction, but by in large I still enjoy listening to it.

I’m one of those people who 9/11 has touched. My husband was a pentagon worker on 9/11. Thankfully he survived… For me the biggest irony of the whole thing is that at those last minutes (at least in the case of 9/11) all phone lines were jammed. There were no inbound our outbound calling – all you got was a fast signal. I didn’t hear that he survived for an hour, all I could do was watch the news and see the building in flames.

  61. That’s not something I really care to be beat over the head with in a cheezy pop song from a karaoke TV reality contest winner, either ‘” to tell you the truth.

LOL. We are all going to die. It’s a theoretical question. I get it that some people have issues with it, but I just don’t think that most people will be traumatized by this song.

As somebody said, nobody seems to have problems going to movies where the world is destroyed. I saw the Eiffel Tower fall down in two different movie trailers this summer. Didn’t stop me from climbing it. I’m sure that the people of Paris aren’t boycotting them despite the fact that the first plan of the WT bombers was to drive planes into the Eiffel Tower. They’ll see it for what it is. Entertainment.

IDK. It’s a personal thing. I don’t want to allow the terrorists to moderate my behaviour and I’m not going to make all my songs/movies go no deeper than puppies and rainbows because it might remind me of something else. If I can tolerate Adam and Kris singing about the civil rights movement (during which people were murdered and abused) and the Vietnam war (more death and destruction) during a cheesy reality show, I’m not going to gripe if they sing about “you should live your life as if you don’t get that 10 minutes to say goodbye” after the show. But then again, I watch Lost so plane crashes in entertainment obviously don’t bug me.

Disclaimer: I’m not saying that Kris’s song is deep. Just that there are a lot of sucky people out there doing awful things and if we preclude anything remotely related to them from being discussed in entertainment venues, we won’t have much to watch other than Two and a Half Men. Kris’s song isn’t that deep and it just poses one of those typical questions people speculate at especially when in college around the table drinking beers late at night and one thinks one is being deep.

  62. Allison was having a twitter party, and someone asked her about Kris’ single:

    RT @KAnationBench9: @Allison4Realzzz What’s your thoughts on Kris’ 1st single?I love it!its amazing!!
half a minute ago from Echofon

  63. Just for some clarification, my problem with Ryan was not the fact that he asked about the song being a cover, but HOW he asked. First he emphasized that Kris would no longer be doing covers and then he asked him why he was doing a cover.

No, actually Ryan did not say anything about Kris no longer doing covers, nor did he ask him “why he was doing a cover.” Here is the sum total of the conversation about it:

RYAN: So this single “Live Like We’re Dying,” this is a cover isn’t it?

KRIS: Um, no no no, uh, uh, well. . . I mean, The Script did it. um, ah, they came out with it like on a B-side in Germany, or aomething like that.

    RYAN: No one’s heard it.

    KRIS: Yeah.

FEMALE SIDEKICK: No one knows it.

    KRIS: Yeah.

RYAN: And is the arrangement, you changed the arrangement?

KRIS: Um no, not really, but we loved it, so. . .

RYAN: OK. So why did you go with this as your first single?

KRIS: Um, we heard it, we heard it really early on, and we just loved it, like we thought it was great, and we thought it would be like a good introduction to the things that we were going to do with the rest of the album, so, uh, we just went with it.

ETA: Sorry coolcricket. To be totally accurate, I should add that this earlier question of Ryan’s could indeed be construed as him “emphasizing” that Kris would no longer be doing covers:

RYAN: You’re on American Idol, you’re singing everybody else’s songs, then you win, and it’s time to do your own. Where did you start?

    KRIS: Huh?

    RYAN: How did you start?

  64. I have to lol at all of this nit picking of the lyrics of this song.

    “Ironic” Alanis Morrissette?

“If Today Was Your Last Day” Nickelback.

They seem to have survived the lyric police.

And for perspective – my brother in law was in Tower 2 at the WTC and my brother is a port authority cop

  65. The only plane crash that I am aware of where people knew it was going to crash and had time to make 1 cell phone call was on 9/11 when the passengers intentionally crashed the plane in Western PA. Is there another time when this happened?

There were phone calls made during the US Airways crash into the Hudson a few months ago (the one where the pilot managed to make a clean landing and everybody survived). I seem to recall some dude got an answering machine.

In many past incidents, people have written letters to their loved ones. Cell phones don’t work very well and haven’t been around that long.

It really is an unusually set of circumstances. Usually in plane crashes, the passengers only have a couple of minutes, and the procedure is to calmly get everyone into crash positions. There is no time to make a cell phone call ‘” and if you tried, you would be stopped immediately.

Sometimes it is a while between the time you start to crash and you actually crash. Sure, if you were on the Air New Zealand flight that crashed into a mountain in Antarctica, even the pilot didn’t have a warning. But, sometimes, when there are mechanical difficulties, you have time to contemplate your fate. Planes have run out of fuel a few times in mid-flight. Unlike the Bugs Bunny cartoons, they do not immediately fall out of the sky. The Gimli Glider for one and Air Transat 236 (flew 19 minutes after the last engine flamed out).

Planes have also lost critical pieces of the equipment which make it highly unlikely that the plane will land without incident. Again, the people had a significant amount of time to contemplate their fate. Planes have also been on fire during flight. Swiss Air 111 took over 21 minutes to crash after smoke was first noticed (they made a few decisions that turned out to be bad ones and then had to dump fuel before attempting a landing). United Airlines 232 flew for 43 minutes after it lost all of its hydraulics. United Airlines Flight 811 suffered a cargo door failure which caused their to be a hole in the fuselage that sucked out 9 passengers and crew. It took them a while to get control of the plane and land. British Airways Flight 5390 took 22 minutes to land after the windscreen failed and the pilot was sucked partially out of the plane (they had to land with him that way, because they could not pull him back in. I’m sure a few people thought about dying on all those flights (and some did end up dying).

Here is the text of an actual letter written by a passenger on British Airways flight 9 that had it engines flame out when they filled with volcanic ash (and the windscreen was completely scarred by the same ash such that the pilots were unable to see where they were flying)

“Ma. In trouble. Plane going down. Will do best for boys. We love you. Sorry. Pa XXX” scrawled on the cover of his ticket wallet.

Many other passengers wrote letters to loved ones on that flight as well.

Plane crashes themselves are rare, but sometimes there is time for the passengers to contemplate their fate.

  66. LLWD now at 33 on ITunes.

Uuugh! Maybe Kris should twat about it again. He has over 100 K followers and it trended #1 last night. What songs are moving up past him? I would be interested to know what songs people are buying.

ETA: NVM I went to look myself. Lots of competititon from female singers-Beyonce, Mariah, Miley, Carrie, BEP. But have you seen this guy Uncle Kracker that keeps moving up with the song SMILE? I actually heard our DJ talking on the radio about it yesterday…praising it…saying she has gotten lots of requests…I do not like that song at all. ugh

  71. OHP just played “guess who sings that” — it was a Panic at the Disco song and someone guessed Drake. Um, huh? Drake and Panic at the Disco aren’t even in the same universe musically.

Just so I am listening to the correct thing..is Lady Gaga playing right now with Paparazzi.

  73. THE KID: Um, no no no, uh, uh, well. . . I mean, The Script did it. um, ah, they came out with it like on a B-side in Germany, or aomething like that.

These Arkanasas dudes are all the same, aren’t they? I think what the kid was trying to say was:

“Well, it depends what your definition of IS is….”

  74. Yay, for SLezak and Baldwin being back and great to see another fun Kris interview.

As far as the lyrics go … don’t we all know someone who is dying or has died in one way or another? We are all going to die wether we want to think about it or not.

I never once associated 9/11 with this song. But because someone else had that visceral reaction, now I’m thinking of my brother who I talked into staying home from work that day because I had a bad feeling. He was to be giving a presentation the the first Tower that was hit. He lived. But he is now dying of cancer. Makes me wonder if I should not have warned him … a quick death or a long painful one.

But, he’s living like he’s dying and not letting a single opportunity go by to say the things he needs to say and do the things he needs to do. Like finally telling my aging mother he’s gay.

    Go, Kris!

  75. These Arkanasas dudes are all the same, aren’t they? I think what the kid was trying to say was:

‘Well, it depends what your definition of IS is’ ¦.’

LOL! Yep! Yep! I will never forget that line! The things Presidential legacies are made of!

  76. Sorry. I’m an American. Those images are seared into my conscious. They always will be. Feel free to scold me for it if you like, but it’s not something I can control. My immediate thought hearing that line was a flashback to the phonecalls made to loved ones both from Flight 93 and from the WTC.

Sorry, Im an American too. And despite those images being seared into my conscious and subconscious, I am able to hear or see a piece of work (music, tv show etc) and not automatically attach a 9/11 sentiment to the piece.

And IF a song does bring back a certain emotion, I welcome it…for that day was too important to just forget and brush under the rug.

There was a song by Five for Fighting…Superman (right?) that came out during the aftermath of 9/11…some of those lyrics were somewhat eerie considering the circumstances, yet when i hear that song today, i think of it as a nice tribute. the band wrote/produced the song before the attacks, yet the timing of its release and popularity coincided w. those events. bottom line, it was a beautiful, haunting song….even if it was a reminder.

  77. Uncle Kracker is what a kid from Arkansas should be doing: a cross-over soft rock/country rock thang.

  78. I never once associated 9/11 with this song. I think you just broke my heart. Not sure of what to say…..stories like this make me appreciate what i have. Your brother is an inspiration….hope he finds his peace. thank you for sharing TwigLA.

  79. YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY idolatry! Realite! I’ve missed them. And notice the Anoop shout out in the beginning? heh. I watch all the shows they talk about- except DWTS but i’m going to start because I loveee Melissa Joan Hart and know she has absolutely no rhythm whatsoever.

  80. Newfan, it’s kinda hard to do. Kris is working with some top talent. Why, oh why, would he go along with an exact cover of someone else’s song?

Because he doesn’t have a choice? None of these kids coming fresh off of Idol have the leverage to call their own shots. None of them.

  81. Ok did they just play “Fireflies” by Owl twice on the stream to hear Kris….

Ok they just mentioned Kris I am listening to the right thing.

  82. OK, I expect somebody to write a complete and accurate transcript of this upcoming Kris interview, with every “um” and “uh,” the way I did above. I have to go out.

  83. dhunken

Yup, Lady Gaga was on, that that “Fireflies” song I can’t stand, and now sme other auto-tuned song I don’t recognize.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah…I have things I need to do. I can’t sit here for hours waiting for a short interview with bb Kris. They said he’s be on at 7 pm Eastern — if that wasn’t the case, they should’ve said what time he actually would be on…

    Freaking teases…

  84. Oh shit — Open House Party is a 5-hour show…

    Oh hey, it’s Flo Rida!

  85. ok, that Realite skit is hillarious….”the Not Approved by Jesus” tag on Kathy Ireland was simply gold! gotta love those two. ahhhh, still secretly wish he, not Ellen, would have been tapped for the 4th judge spot. (or maybe a replacement for randy or kara???)

  88. Because he doesn’t have a choice? None of these kids coming fresh off of Idol have the leverage to call their own shots. None of them.

It’s funny how they all claim to have creative control before the CD is released. Then, when it comes out and is panned as being formulaic, factory-made pop, they say that the record label made them sing that dreck!

It’s fun to see all the twittering about “working with” this producer or “writing with” that songwriter, when it’s always the same old same old cast of characters responsible for the last half-dozen mediocre Idol wannabee albums. I mean, after “Open Toes” and “No Boundrays”, why would anyone admit to working with Kara DioGuardi. She should start using a nom de plume.

hwc, I agree. I think that it’s the linking of the plane falling from the sky to the phone calls that evokes so strongly the memories of 9/11. At the time, newcasters frequently mentioned that this was the first large-scale flight disaster where people could call their loved ones. In-air use of cellular phones was forbidden for many, many years.

  97. Sorry, I can’t, I’m going out. I don’t think I could stand to listen to this even if I wasn’t though. .

OMG make the music stop already and bring on Kris….

  98. They just played Taylor Swift followed by Kanye West followed by Beyonce — LOL — subtlety, they’re doing it wrong

I’m giving this another half hour before I give up. Got things I need to do…

  99. Let me know if they play that Kracker dudes Smile song. I have to hear it again. I can’t see peeps downloading that song over Kris’s or just about anybody else on the list. If this is what peeps are buying, OMG!

  100. IMO the combination of sobering lyrics with lighthearted, careless dance beat makes the song to me kind of … how to say it softly…hard to accept. The rest: vocals, accompaniment, tempo is all right IMO.

Lyrics are not good too though. “86 400 seconds in a day” … no, not good. IMO of course.

  101. That’s not something I really care to be beat over the head with in a cheezy pop song from a karaoke TV reality contest winner, either ‘” to tell you the truth.

Okay, then don’t buy it and don’t listen to it. I happen to be inspired by the lyrics so I bought it and will listen a lot. Kris’s voice just makes it better for me and I know YMDV, that’s what makes the world go round. ;)

  102. If Kris is really having another The Script song on his debut album, even if it was merely written by and not one already sung by The Script, which one is getting more attention? Kris? The Script? Or both? Is the label trying the two-birds-in-one approach, or is it trying to ensure that at least one, that is, either Kris or The Script, becomes successful in the event that one crashes and burns?

This overanalyzing is really fun: gathering reputed facts, piecing together the minutest details, pondering about the sociological and psychological impact of the lyrics to the American people, and perhaps, scrapping raw data all together and if all else fails, just start preaching about the established conspiracy theories. Probably, the next thing we know, we’d call this discussion, “Mosaic.” But it is really fun.

  103. will, I don’t think you’re here anymore, but w/o your complete and total transcript being in order and missing some parts it doesn’t work. Thanks for trying anyway. I’m chuckling because after I posted I knew someone would catch that I left a middle part out of it. Doesn’t matter. Um, uh, really it doesn’t. ;) I’m ready to move on…umm;)

  104. (Banging head on wall)….No more music!, no more music!…Kris interview now please…(more banging of head against wall)…Kr…is…in..ter..view..Ple..ase.

I think there is no question that there is an element of cross promotion here and based on what I have seen both here and on other sites, I think it has been pretty successful so far. Both fan groups generally appear to like the other’s music.

Having both Kris and The Script appear at the same function soon is another element of this cross promotion.

  106. LLWD is #34. I have two questions: How do you gift an itune to someone? I have some friends that voted for Kris and I could gift it to them. (They have chosen not to purchase it for whatever). Anyway, 2nd question: Will Jive amp up the promotion if they see it not moving up? Having had Archie last year, they did well but he did too. If they compare to Archies year will it put a fire under them? Why wait til next week?

Check out The Script (the band not the album) on Wikipedia and you’ll find that they were song writers long before they became a band, ie they were trying to write for other people. If Kris has a song on his album penned by Joe King are you going to say that Kris is singing a Fray song? Kris likes to work with artists who can sing their own stuff. I think it’s part of his organic nature and he fits better with people who might start off composing when holding a guitar in their hands.

  108. I worry a bit about all of these “wordy” songs making it onto the album. Kris hinted a bit about never having sung LLWD live, yet (obviously, it’s just been in the studio), but that song is going to be difficult to sing live, imo, with its rapid fire chorus and wordiness. And now we have other wordy songs? Nobo was already problematic on tour, and that one was not as wordy as LLWD.

  109. If you think this is about 9/11 you’re reading too much into it. If it reminds you of that, that’s just your perception, it’s not in the song. There have been crashes in the years since 9/11. I never made that accociation. It’s just a generalization.

I don’t think it’s specifically about 9/11 – I think planes falling out of the sky is just creepy and unnerving in general. I’ll say it again = there are so many ways that point could have been made without conjuring images of plane crashes. To me, it would be like having a song with a line about “getting mangled in a terrible car wreck” or something (a little hyperbolic, but hopefully you get the point).

  110. Kris’s promotion on I-tunes, I believe, hasn’t begun yet. David Cook had something front page, as well as , David Archuleta. Hell, even Brooke White had a small ad. Jive, no doubt, has a game plan that we are just not privy to and never will be, I’m sure. Imagine that! LOL

I do have a question for Kirsten, seeing how she is the resident number’s person.

Last year David Cook had pre-orders on I-tunes. When Light On was released did people recieve the single from that preorder or did they need to purchase the single separately if they wanted it right away?

Many people have purchased an I-tune Pass for Kris Allen. In order to get LLWD right now, they would need to purchase the single separately. In essence, they would have two LLWD once the CD is released. Many people are not purchasing the single, waiting for the CD release.

I think I do recall people saying Light On single and Light On album. I bought the extra LLWD single just to have it. But in these economic times many will not frivolously buy a single that they have purchased through the I-tune pass, especially when the pricing has gone from .99 to 1.29. For some it’s just the principle of the matter, taking a stand, I suppose.

    Thanks.

  111. I think there is no question that there is an element of cross promotion here and based on what I have seen both here and on other sites, I think it has been pretty successful so far. Both fan groups generally appear to like the other’s music.

It may turn out to be really smart and very good for both Kris and The Script. I know nothing about the music industry or The Script or until very recently, Kris Allen. But I understand The Script is trying to break into the US market. Very smart move then to connect them so directly to The American Idol and his fan base. On the flip side, The Script already have an established global audience. If TS fans are listening to Kris – and the reason is irrelevant – this is likely to help Kris find an international audience and generate buzz about him outside the US.

Kris Allen is one of those performers whose inner self shines out of him. And it’s a singularly charming inner self. Plus he’s a genuinely talented musician. He’s going to continue to surprise people. I won’t be surprised at all if he produces a huge global #1 hit at some point.

And he’s not even my favourite.

  112. hwc,
I wasn’t kidding. I really was suggesting that there weren’t too many possible alterations. If Kris was, indeed, presented with a pre-existing instrumental backing track, he would only be able to control the vocals and, personally, I think that they were fine (except that they’re overwhelmed in the mix ‘ ¦ but that’s a common problem ‘ ¦ ).

I would tend to agree that, given the finished product (which is pretty solid and catchy imo), leaving it as is with no major alterations was probably the best solution. Trying to make a stripped down accoustic version, or something, would not have been as “radio friendly” – especially for a first single.

It’s never ideal to make an exact copy of the original song (I own lots of covers, but they are all quite unique takes on the original). However, since The Script version is hard to get here, it makes it more of a moot point, imo.

  113. Still waiting to hear Kris on this Open House Party. Ugh — 2 1/2 hours of music of stuff I would — for the most part — not listen to any other time. I deserve some prize for sitting through this…

    They claim he’ll be on “in a moment”…but I don’t believe them.

Watch them play the interview right before the show ends at Midnight Eastern time.

I’m assuming i’s pre-recorded anyway…Kris should be taking Katy out to celebrate their anniversary tonight…not calling into some radio show…

  114. Let me know if they play that Kracker dudes Smile song. I have to hear it again. I can’t see peeps downloading that song over Kris’s or just about anybody else on the list. If this is what peeps are buying, OMG!

I downloaded the whole CD tonight. It’s pretty good. Way overproduced as far as serious music goes, but I really like the humor in the songrwriting and the way he captures different flavors of American music. It’s quite creative. It has one of the worst autotune songs I’ve ever heard, makes Autotune the News sound subtle, but it also has some really funny stufff. Fun pop album. Doesn’t have any of the rap of his platinum first CD, Double Wide.

Love this one. KInd of a redneck Katy Perry:

    My Girlfriend
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fO1XoPYs0V8

    And this one:

    I Hate California
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dndsO-oULq4

How do you not love a song with a line:
“I wish she’d meet Phil Spector and he’d ask to take her home….”

  115. NOBO wasn’t bad because it was wordy. The melody was bad. At least he sang it on all the appearances after winning. The song had a bad name attached to it before the tour so people were just not embracing the song.
Kris did a good job with it. The difference with LLWD is that it has a very beautiful melody so it’s easier to sing and the wordy part is like rap. Kris will do justice to it.
I’m sure he has already put all these in place.

  116. EVANJANE That makes sense. I also went back and read the headlines thread and alot of people made sense about the promotion and itune numbers. Looks like they have Kris on the same track as Cook so all is well. I’m sure they know what they are doing. Now off to worry about Allison. Peeps planted scarry thoughts in my head about her promotion, etc. As if I don’t have enough to worry about.

  117. Yay!!! Kris is on!!! And he’s explaining how Little Rock got named… yay, history lesson! BB Kris was paying attention in class back in junior high

Ok, brief talk about Little Rock, then go to commercial and more songs? Oh, they are gonna drag this out aren’t they?

  118. It may turn out to be really smart and very good for both Kris and The Script. I know nothing about the music industry or The Script or until very recently, Kris Allen.

I agree – I think the cross-promotion with The Script is actually a smart move, and could help both out in the long (or short) run.

I deserve part of that prize too – the bulk of this music sucks! But Kris was in the studio, so I am sure this was recorded. Stupid question about Little Rock – how should he know that?

ETA: Now time for more crappy music. Grrreat!

  120. is the kris interview done? I think so…

awwwwwwwwww today is kris and katy’s anniversary? <3

    No, they keep teasing us.

  123. Wooow dhunken ONLY 5 hrs?! I spend preeety much all my free time at mjsbigblog….(hangs head in shame)o_0

  124. So no one threw rocks at Kris during his homecoming parade but he felt like he was Miss Arkansas because of all the waving and the pagent-y feel of the whole thing.

Ok, now ask him about his MUSIC

  125. But first, let’s play that really bad song from that really bad Kirsten Dunst cheerleading movie! Argh!

Oh, worse – it’s a medley of really bad songs! lol

  126. Pump It Up!

Oh and now Use Somebody…again. I love KOL but do they only have 2 songs? I seriously have heard Sex on Fire and Use Somebody like 453535765898546 times over the past few months.

I know there’s more to this interview…they said they would ask him about the single and actually play it…

  127. As far as the plane lyric, I’m glad it evokes in some memories of 9/11 as painful as they may be for everyone. I live in the Tri-state area and many from my State were killed that day, others survived, but were in the thick of things. Every year I tune into a New York station to hear the roll call of names, listening to the children’s choirs, the ringing of the bells when a tower was hit, listening to taps. I find myself sobbing as I did the day it happened.

This year I worried that people might be forgetting, as game shows and talk shows played on other stations without interruption. I’m aware that life must go on, but there are lessons to be learned from tragedy. And these souls need to be honored every year at least for the sake of these families.

I mentioned that it reminded me of Rent and 9/11 in my first post about the song. The song evokes so much. The simple lyrics are not so simple in meaning. I personally did not lose anyone that day nor did I know anyone personally that was there. But, I do know when I watch the ceremony and see these families holding on to pictures and sobbing like it just happened, I do think they want all of us to remember what they lost that day, what we all lost.

I think using the 9/11 tragedy as one more reason to dislike the song is in bad taste. No rebuttal or snark will change my opinion.

  128. Head Pussy Nicole – ROFLMAO

Would pay $$$ to see Kris’ expression if he was actually sitting there when the DJ guy said that…

  129. Thanks leeundra…died anyone know what station it’s on???!!!…,

  130. My brain is rapidly turning to mush. Kris, sweetie, please record a few songs that will play on AC instead of Top 40/Pop radio?

  131. I mean, after ‘Open Toes’ and ‘No Boundrays’ , why would anyone admit to working with Kara DioGuardi. She should start using a nom de plume.

    That wuz funnee!

  132. ok, where did Kris go? They’ve played like 10 songs since he last said something…bring him back, already!

  133. rotfl I actully ALWAYS listen to top 40 radio.hahah….

sadly I can’t listen to my iheartradio app and be on mjsbigblog at the same time so I guess I’ll check this thread to see when kristopher is on?..,,,

  134. Oh and now Use Somebody’ ¦again. I love KOL but do they only have 2 songs

Notion is their newest song ( and my favorite)

  135. Kris llwd is now down to #38 on itune. Now I see why releasing single on Friday is not a good idea. Not many music downloading activities happening during weekend. Hope it picks up tomorrow.

I remember some poster talked there is a more general chart tracking sales from Sunday to Sunday. Can’t remember properly. MJ, is that the sales chart you have every Monday?

  136. Finally, they are playing LLWD. Kris talked about why they picked this…and the DJ didn’t say anything about it being a cover…but the DJ thinks this song is about Ted Kennedy?

Is that it..or is Kris coming back?

  137. Note to self: learn patience and wait for these snippet interviews to be on youtube. 3 hours 15 minutes wasted. ::facepalm::

  138. Kris llwd is not down to #38 on itune. Now I see why releasing single on Friday is not a good idea. Not many music downloading activities happening during weekend. Hope it picks up tomorrow.

Yeah – what was the reason they released it on a friday? The best answer I heard before was that the Script was releasing a song next week. But I don’t get the Friday release at all. Still, I think it will definitely pick up next week.

  139. Haven’t read all of the posts here. Gotta go. All I have to say is I. Love. LLWD!!!

Oh yeah, hubby watched Realite with me for my 2nd time, just.as.funny. if not more so!!!! :D

  140. C’mon Jive promote your artist!!!!!!!!! Great song, don’t let it go to waste!!

  141. Really cool to hear Kris’s LLWD on the radio. It does sound different played there with all the other songs. Sounds as good and better than alot of them.

  142. They played llwd???!!! DAMN i REALLY want to hear 99.5 ( local top 40 station) play llwd…

  143. Oops twitter took it down a second time tonight! What did Kris say on the radio show about the song? I couldn’t listen. It was taking forever!

  144. It’s really a great song with a deeper meaning and it seems peeps buying it love the lyrics and what it means. Don’t worry, cookcricket I believe in Jive. They know exactly what they are doing and we all know they are good at it.
They have a very talented artist and with the rave reviews it’s getting, I don’t think they would like to f*** up.

  145. I missed the interview. Recap, por favor?

Some silly question about why Little Rock is called Little Rock…Kris did his best to answer it. Then he told the guy basically the same thing he told Seacrest about why they picked that song. No question about it being a cover or not. That was about it.

  146. Kris’ LLWD is now at #34 Top Songs #19 Pop Songs. iTunes unit sales drop over the weekend, but they drop for everybody. The rankings are relative. I hope that Jive/19R has Something planned for next week to promote this single.

I hope they broaden the release to Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy and other sites on Tuesday.

  147. And if your plane fell out of the skies
who would you call with your last goodbyes
should be so careful who we live out our lives
so when we long for absolution
there’ll no one on the line

Are these the actual words? I’d heard the first two lines, but does the 3rd line even make sense?

Am I understanding the last two lines correctly? Is it saying this person who is plummeting to their death doesn’t get their loved one on the phone?

  148. I think when iTunes does their full update to the store on Tuesday, Kris could have an ad somewhere, either on the main page, pop page or both.

  149. tiger92, I think the third line is actually “should be so careful who we let fall out our lives”.

  150. Kris’ LLWD is now at #34 Top Songs #19 Pop Songs. iTunes unit sales drop over the weekend, but they drop for everybody. The rankings are relative. I hope that Jive/19R has Something planned for next week to promote this single.

Q3 can you give me the link of the chart you track? I use the following one but it shows llwd is #38. I just don’t want to keep looking at the wrong thing. Thanks!

    http://ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wpa/MRSS/topsongs/sf=9903441/limit=50/rss.xml

  151. BeckyMD, your chart placing is correct.

Kris is #34 if you don’t count explicit tracks. Some feeds don’t.

  152. jmaster: Thanks. That makes more sense. Count me in as one who doesn’t like the plane reference. It is just a gut reaction-I can’t change it. That doesn’t mean I will switch the song when LLWD comes on the radio.
It may cause a reaction or uncomfortable feeling in a small amount of people. I’m sure the reference doesn’t bother most people, but I’m not making some reaction up just to have a reason to “hate the song”.

  153. Explicit tracks are tracks with sexually explicit lyrics or violent lyrics. It’s like a R or NC-17 rating (not sure which exactly, probs R) but for music. There are four hiphop/rap songs above Kris’ which are explicit

Me, too. I have a gut reaction to that line, too. And I really wish they had changed it.

I bought this single just to support Kris, but I will never listen to it. I already own The Script version and I only listen to their original recording once. Didn’t like that song and never listened to it again. But I like a number of their other songs. I expect I will buy and like Kris’ album — just not a fan of this song.

  155. Sherena: BeckyMD, your chart placing is correct.
Kris is #34 if you don’t count explicit tracks. Some feeds don’t.

I’m sorry I just hadn’t updated it recently. I use this chart and LLWD is at #38 on this chart, too.

    http://musicchartfeeds.com/itunes-chart/

But the point was the same, IMO this is not looking very good. Kris’ single is exclusively on iTunes — the others are available everywhere. So, it this was distributed based on iTunes market share, LLWD might not even be in the top 50.

ETA: If there is a better iTunes chart source, please advise.

  156. I’m certain Jive has a game plan. It almost seems to be a cross between David Cook’s and David Archuletta’s promotion before going on I-tunes. David Cook had less radio airplay than David A.

I read that David A. had almost 2 weeks of airplay before his Itune sales date. Like Kris, he had the Z100 premier (aug.8), and then the release to I-tunes (aug 11). David A’s Audience Impression was 7.669 with a total spin of 815. David C’s was a lot lower. David Cook reached #3 with Light On. David A. went to #1.

David Cook’s single’s sales date was, I believe, 9/30/08. His total spins were around 240 or so with a much lower Audience Impression than DA.
Releasing Kris’s single on a Friday on I-tunes is not the norm, but it’s holding steady. David Cook’s single was initially released on I-tunes with little fanfare. I believe the following day or so, the real promotion began with a front page banner and what have you.

Whether Jive is promoting Kris like both DC and DA is yet to be seen, but it does seem to me that they are incorporating both ways. I believe we will see a push on I-tunes very soon for Kris’s single. Kris’s total spins are 123 with an A.I. of 1.104 (in millions) which is closer to DC’s spin total and audience impression before going to I-tunes.

I’m sure Kris appreciates every single sold, whether the song appeals to you or not. These kids listen to far worse and have seen far worse on TV. I’m dying to hear the lyrics for Sonic Lobotomy — lobotomies are much easier on one’s sensibilites. LOL

  157. Kris’ single is exclusively on iTunes

It is also available on Amazon mp3 downloads, although I don’t know about anywhere else

  158. Kris Allen is #26 among the singles release at iTunes. That’s good for Kris. It seems to be moving up.

    iTunes Chart Songs

But this will change so not sure what it will be when you check the link.

The label will promote , no question about that. It’s an opportunity for sales , with name and performance recall fresh, and fan base still warm and fuzzy over the idols.

  159. Kris Allen is #26 among the singles release at iTunes

It is unfortunately #38 on the latest itunes update

  160. It is unfortunately #38 on the latest itunes update

You mean it dropped ? Wonder why this chart shows different. Anyway, there seems to be quite several charts for iTunes mp3 including Pop songs charts. It must be too early to tell how sales is. Time will tell.

    iTunes Top 100 Songs

  161. springboard,
The chart you are looking at has not changed since 8:58pm yesterday, that’s why. The apple one is current. It is at #26.

  162. LLWD is available on Amazon, that’s where I bought it, but for some reason it’s not available at walmart.com.

If LLWD doesn’t rack up massive sales this weekend, it’s not the end of the world. The song is in very limited airplay right now, but that will change once the song goes for adds, and Kris begins his radio promo tour, and really aside from those who frequent AI message boards, most, which is a very small number, most people don’t even know abou the song. Selling around 30,000 during its opening week didn’t stop Jordin’s “Tattoo” from selling over a million copies, or from becoming a radio staple for more than a year, so I don’t think there’s any need to worry about Kris.

  163. But the point was the same, IMO this is not looking very good. Kris’ single is exclusively on iTunes ‘” the others are available everywhere. So, it this was distributed based o

I think it’s great that “Live Like We’re Dying” is doing as well as it has. Jive dropped it on iTunes on Friday with next to no promotion. His only media event the entire day was Ryan Seacrest’s radio show.

The only other people who would even know the song is available for purchase is Kris’s hardcore fan base – people who follow him on twitter, people who signed up for his mailing list, people who visit his website everyday, and people who visit blogs like this.

Jive did not purchase any ads on iTunes. His picture not popping up anywhere when you go to iTunes. You have to actively search to find the song. They have not shot a video (and it does not sound like they have any immediate plans to do so either). It’s only gotten 120 spins on radio so far.

How are the numbers disappointing so far? The only thing I find disappointing is Jive’s complete lack of promotion for Kris or this song. But that is probably something that is not going to change.

ITA Jive has totally mucked the promotion up.

Also I don’t think it was a great song choice for Kris’ first single. I bought it, but just to support Kris. JMO YMMV

Jordin got “Tattoo” and Archie had “Crush”. They may not be my kind of music but they were hit songs. I think that they could have given Kris a better song for his first single.

  166. “I think that they could have given Kris a better song for his first single.”–Q3

I disagreee. It’s a great song. I love it much more than Tatoo and Crush. They both went on to sell over platinum. Hit singles do not always sell an album. Jordin went platinum close to a year later, around the time David Cook’s CD went platinum.

Of course, no one can predict the future. I don’t thin it’s all that relevant that the 60- and over crowd doesn’t like the song. Yes, generalizing here. lol The important thing is that it gets radioplay and it will. David Cook’s fans complained about RCA’s promotion when David’s single was released to I-tunes. It was an on-again off-again love affair with RCA and Simon Fuller.

I think theyr’re hoping this song will not only be a hit, but also sell the album. In my opinion, it has every chance to do it.

    “YMMV” — Q3
Obviously, it does with not just me, but many, many people.

Time will tell. I’m so pleased to see Adam fans are so willing to support Kris with their pocketbook. It appears the prevelant view is that he needs it. : )

  167. It was an on-again off-again love affair with RCA and Simon Fuller

Wait a minute. Now you are saying David Cook is gay, too? I just can’t keep up!

First Clay. Then, Archie. Then Adam and the kid who won. And, now this?

  168. I’m still confused as to why LLWD wasn’t released to ITunes last Tuesday. Why wait until Friday? I guess they didn’t want to releaseit this coming Tuesday because Kris is going to London so wouldn’t be able to promote it? But since it debuted on Z-100 lastMonday, why not just release it to Itunes the next day?

I’m hoping Jive has a strategy to promote it better because you know Kris is going to be blamed if the song continues to drop on the charts…

  169. LLWD is going the wrong way on the ITunes charts — now at #22 on pop and #43 on overall

I don’t think LLWD would have been a #1 hit anyway, but Jive still seems to have screwed this up

  170. Jordin got ‘Tattoo’ and Archie had ‘Crush’ . They may not be my kind of music but they were hit songs

On hindsight, it’s easy to call them hit songs, but Tattoo in particular, was lambasted in these threads when it was first released. When it got off to slow start, peeps were writing Jordin off left and right. lol. Well I wasn’t, but lots of other peeps were.

I think “Live Like We’re Dying” is a good first single for Kris. It’s going to get more HAC play than CHR, but Kris is going to be primarily a Hot AC artist, like OAR and David Cook, and that’s OK. The song has been out for two days, I’m not ready to predict failure for Kris.

And with the unusual Friday release, I’m betting the real promo push for the single begins Monday or Tuesday.

  171. It’s actually really impressive that LLWD has gotten up the iTunes chart as much as it has with only 2 radio interviews and virtually no other promotion. I still suspect something happened to make them change the iTunes release date to Friday, I think the plan was originally for this upcoming Tuesday along with no doubt upcoming promotion.

  172. I think it is interesting that LLWD was released on Friday. But it was the only track to be released that day, right? So it got the day all to itself. And it has flown up the iTunes chart w/out any publicity from them (a tad surprising, except maybe it’s b/c it’s not part of the iTunes pass, which pisses me off).

  173. Also I don’t think it was a great song choice for Kris’ first single. I bought it, but just to support Kris. JMO YMMV

I wasn’t talking about the quality of the song. I happen to like “Live Like We’re Dying” and think it’s pretty catchy. Would it have been my first choice for a single? No. But I don’t listen to the radio much so it’s probably a good thing I am not making that decision.

My point was that I think it’s far too early to plan the funeral for this song. The song has not even been on iTunes for 72 hours yet and the song has not even officially gone for ads.

LLWD had a nice jump in spins yesterday. Any ideas why? I was not expecting many spins because stations don’t normally run their pick it or flick it competitions during the weekend.

  174. I missed the interview. Recap, por favor?

Some silly question about why Little Rock is called Little Rock’ ¦Kris did his best to answer it. Then he told the guy basically the same thing he told Seacrest about why they picked that song. No question about it being a cover or not. That was about it.

Thanks. The plane lines bothered me the first time I heard it–it stuck out to me in an unpleasant way. Now I just think, Well, it’s there. It was there for The Script, and it’s still there. I live in Boston, where the flights originated, so maybe that’s why it hits me harder, too.

ETA: Once again, I think that Kris is SO GREAT when you see him physically. That interview w/ Slezak (from Realite or whatever it’s called) is very cute. I realize that there is a familiarity there, but I also remember when he was on Jimmy Fallon (he also played Heartless, as I recall) and it was very good. His wry sense of humor comes across very well on screen, not so much just on the radio.

  175. I’m not predicting failure for Kris — I just wish I felt like Jive was promoting LLWD as much as possible. Maybe they will step it up this coming week. I hope so.

LLWD has picked up spins on the radio, and that’s good. And the overall response to the song has been positive, which, again, is good. So I’m trying not to be a Nervous Nelly about this.

  176. Organic singer songwriter types are never going to shoot up the iTunes download charts. They grow their audiences slowly and then maintain their popularlity for years and years. I’m sure this is the plan JIVE has for the kid who won. They don’t care if the first single is huge; they have planned this out to build over five albums.

  177. Kris song was played on Open House Party last night which added approximately 20 spins to his total. He probably would have been about plus 15 on pop without the OHP spin.

  178. girlygirly,
There are new figures. A couple of contemporary christian station are also playing but because they are not on the chart, its not showing.
    HERE:
    spin gains for 09/26
    AC – 4
    HAC -73(+22)
    POP – 93(+36)
    RHYTHMIC – 2

    AUDIENCE IMP. -1.004(+2)

    TOTAL SPINS – 183
    TOTAL AUDIENCE IMP – 1.377 ( in millions )

    MEDIABASE STUFF:

    #14 – Taking off – Top40 (was #16)
    #38 – spincrease – Top40 (new)
    #6 – Takinf off – HAC (WAS #14)
#20 – spincrease – HAC (was #26) – 15 HAC stations are now playing LLWD right now.
#10 – Taking off Contemporary Christian (new)
#39 – spincrease Contemporary Christian (new)

First Clay. Then, Archie. Then Adam and the kid who won. And, now this?” –HWC

HA, HA! Actually the Mavid fans would love it. I think Archie remains chaste, along with Jordin Sparks. His preference is still up in the air.

I’m certain, HWC, that you understood my post, but just for clarification, DC’s Fans were the ones that had a love/hate relationship with RCA and Simon Fuller. Nip those rumors in the bud, STAT.

  180. My opinion is, and will continue to be, that LLWD was not the best song choice for Kris BUT I believe it will be a hit — not #1, but Kris doesn’t need to have a #1 hit. I am NOT being critical of Kris, but of Jive/19R — both for lame promotion and for the song choice.

An artist’s first single is important in positioning — and I just don’t think this is the best way to market Kris. “Tattoo” and “Crush” (no matter what I think about them as music) were good ways to establish these two new artists in their post Idol career. And their audiences (which is not me) bought the song.

I expected them to position Kris as a singer-songwriter style artist — like they did in the Idols Live Tour. Then they put out a first single that is over-produced and doesn’t really highlight what I love about Kris — his voice and phrasing style. My only hope is that at some point Kris does an acoustic version of this song with a slowing tempo (and no strings) and they release that version, too.

  181. DJ’s are squeeing over this song and playing it , maybe it’s because of the wekend?

What is Wizard Radio?? Does it primarily play American Idol performers??

That website you linked to says that the artists featured this morning were:

    Kris Allen
    Jason Castro
    Taylor Hicks
    Elliot Yamin
    Bo Bice
    Danny Gokey

Since Danny doesn’t have any new music out, are they playing his idol releases?

  183. Bob Keller(wizardfkap) :#livelikeweredying by @KrisAllen4Real in heavy rotation on WIZARD RADIO! This is gonna be huge! http://www.wizardradio.org

That’s great! Go Kris! Hopefully more DJs will jump on the LLWD bandwagon soon.

  184. CindyM,
No, they play other artists, infact Taylor Swift is on air now. I think they just love the idols.

  185. Wizard radio is not a monitored mediabase station and will not help kris’ airplay numbers. It just an online station that plays idol music fwiw.

HWC, ITA! Just look at Jason Mraz’ “I’m Yours”. Never made it past #6 on thebillboard chart but has been in the top 100 for over a year. there is alot to be said for longevity instead of the quickie hit, and singer songwriter types usually fall into the former.

  187. hwc,
If what you say is true, I’ll be very happy for Kris because that is his wish and aim exactly, per his interviews. OH MY GOD.

  188. ” I am NOT being critical of Kris, but of Jive/19R ‘” both for lame promotion and for the song choice. ” — Q3

Your opinion of what direction Kris should be going in doesn’t seem to jibe with Kris’s. He felt this song represents his genre. I am grateful he did not go the acoustic route, wanting him to be more current, more contempary. To paraphrase Randy Jackson, “Kris has a potpourri of styles.” I agree. I also see by Vanjess38’s post, Kris can, in fact, crossover musically from Pop to Christian. He even got a couple of spins in Rhythmic.

As I mentioned in a previous post, David Cook’s single went on I-tunes fairly “cold”. The promotional banner and such came later. Kris’s promotion will begin on Monday. Common sense should prevail that Jive would not let the song languish.

Again, I disagree about the song choice. I think Pop and HAC will embrace it very nicely. If I’m wrong, I will be the first to admit it. I’ve seen this all play out last year in much the same way. The opinions of us mere peons have very little impact on the buying public at large.

  189. Q3

An artist’s first single is important in positioning ‘” and I just don’t think this is the best way to market Kris. […] My only hope is that at some point Kris does an acoustic version of this song with a slowing tempo…

I’m no marketing expert but I completely disagree — this song reminded me of Kris’s style immediately, the first time I heard it. I also don’t think it would be better slowed down at all. “Heartless” isn’t exactly a dirge and Kris seems to have a facility and a liking for wordy songs. Haven’t you ever noticed how he bounces around when he sings? He’s completely tied into the rhythm of his songs — he’s not a sleepy, strummy singer-songwriter type at all, IMO and it would be a waste to market him as one.

Ob topic (sorry mj): I adore Slezak and Jason (is it Jason?) Averett (sp). I enjoyed Idolatry more than AI last season tbh — not least because they were so hard core for my favorite Allison. But they and Kristen are so, so funny — and Michael is such a good interviewer — they make Realit shows that much more enjoyable. I wish they’d throw in Top Chef.

And I loved this interview with Kris because he’s so happy and feels comfortable enough to snark. Smokin’ indeed.

  190. Kris has to be careful that all of his songs not sound the same. He needs melody – which LLYD does not really have except for a few bars. He seems to like that wordy, rushed songs like “Heartless”. I wish Kris well and want to like his stuff, but so far I am not enthused.

  191. I really think we are finally seeing the “real” Kris Allen emerge. “Come Together” on the show was really a lot better than he was given credit for. His selection of “All These Things That I’ve Done” to replace NB, should have given us all a clue of the direction he wanted to go. I think LLYD falls in that same direction. He will do some heartfelt soulful ballads and in concert would probably break some of his stuff down to be more acoustic. To get radio play, he needs something to catch the public’s attention and build a following.

I can totally see Kris’s music crossing over into Contemporary Christian and totally be accepted. He loves songs with strong messages without being preachy. There are many bands and solo artists out there doing very well.

  192. The turn Jive is taking with Kris is very different from what they did with Jordin and Archie.
Ther has been no adds at all and the single went to itunes on a friday instead of a tuesday. Definately we the fans will know . I don’t think even some idol watchers know.
Ther should be no worries at this moment. I am just happy that the media and radio stations are loving the song because it’s a big plus. I never watched season five but I have all of Daughtry’s albums and singles. When I bought the first one, I didn’t even know he was from idol. I just happen to hear it bing played on our local AC station whilst drving to work . I loved it so I bought it. So far, so good for Kris in my opinion.

  193. I have not heard Kris on the radio yet. Has anyone else?

In the DC area – I’ve kept an ear for it, and apparently it has played on several of our stations here. I still feel next week will see a lot more airplay, with the “official” release coming out (itunes friday release does not count, imo – too little visibility right before the weekend).

Organic singer songwriter types are never going to shoot up the iTunes download charts. They grow their audiences slowly and then maintain their popularlity for years and years. I’m sure this is the plan JIVE has for the kid who won. They don’t care if the first single is huge; they have planned this out to build over five
    albums.

I agree with this assessment – and in the long run, it is much better to have a song with staying power, than one that shoots up to the top then falls off quickly.

  194. I don’t think that being wordy or fast hurts at all. It’s just the sort of thing (especially) young people like as a challenge to learn the words and sing along LOL. Speaking of being wordy and fast…have you listened to Carrie Underwood’s “Cowboy Casanova”? Right now it’s #7 on iTunes, so wordy and fast doesn’t seem to be an issue.

I think this is a great point – we in the idol-verse know just about EVERYTHING about these singles being available, but with limited promotion (no itunes banners, only two major radio interviews), not many other people know about it yet. I think once the promos pick up, it will be much better known OUTSIDE the idol world here :-)

I think it is interesting that LLWD was released on Friday. But it was the only track to be released that day, right? So it got the day all to itself.

Friday is still a deadzone, whether the song has no competition on Friday or not. Everyone is usually thinking more about going to the movies, going out to dinner, partying, than logging on to itunes on a friday night to buy the latest tracks (and especially one with no promos for it on the site).

  196. Fast and wordy can be fine but I hope Kris doesn’t sing like that all the time.

Also, please, and I mean this in the most helpful way, please, please, I wish Kris would dress more like a star and stay away from all those plaid shirts and little boy sneakers. Come on, man, you are an idol!!!! It’s time to get with the program and step it up in the wardrobe department….

  197. I wish Kris would dress more like a star and stay away from all those plaid shirts and little boy sneakers. Come on, man, you are an idol!!!! It’s time to get with the program and step it up in the wardrobe department’ ¦

I like the plaid. It’s comfortable and pretty and fits him.

  198. “Simple” is Kris’ signature and I never want him to change. Gah! the guy is handsome already, he needs nothing more than a shirts, jeans and sneakers.
Check the stars and you’ll see what I mean. And usually, guitar players like him like to look simple because the guitar really glams them up.

Sunday is such a dead day for itune download. Llwd is down to #47.

Don’t worry, as another poster mentioned, the prime time for iTunes downloads is often Monday morning, as people begin their work week with some serious morning procrastination internet surfing. I’ll bet LLWD will go right back up and then some.

  200. Just refrehed iTunes and it’s holding steady in the top 50 dowloads at #50. I think the strength of the iTunes downloads suggests that the song has real strength with the teen market (that tends to dominate iTunes rankings).

  201. I think most people are still thinking LLWD is getting released Tuesday. Kris announced the Friday release on Twitter, right? Lot’s of people get busy close to the weekend and may not of seen the new release date. Sales should pick up next week.

I do too, I think Kris’s style suits him to a T. Not a big fan of the shoes, but I like the story behind them so I’m good. Kris is adorable just the way he is.

  203. My only hope is that at some point Kris does an acoustic version of this song with a slowing tempo (and no strings) and they release that version, too.

I doubt Kris is going to do any touring with a band at this point. So I think there’s a good chance we’ll hear an acoustic version of the song as early as the concert in Kentucky. They might even include an acoustic version as a bonus track on the CD. That seems to be happening more often these days.

The release of Adam’s CD as a pre-order on Amazon seems to have really sparked purchases of Kris’s CD as well. At least I assume that is the connection since there has not been any major Kris news today.

He is number 5 on their movers and shakers list is up almost 500 percent to #115. I just pre-ordered both CD’s. Hopefully an increase in radio airplay for LLWD will move the CD even higher.

  204. Kris just tweeted, He is off to London.

    KrisAllen4Real:
“Bout to get on the plane and head to London. Had a great time at the beach yesterday.”

  205. A songwriter in Nashville tweeted this to Kris after listening to his single.

BlakeBollinger: @KrisAllen4Real – diggin your new single man! Got a song I think might fit well in your new project.

I love the songs especially the one he’s talking about -PERFECT.

  206. I don’t understand sending the poor kid to London at all. They need to give him a little time off to recharge his batteries and get ready to hit the ground running with a band to promo his big CD release.

Why is Kris going to London? More recording or promotion? LLWD dropped out of 50, landing at #57 now. I thought he would do more radio shows in US.

IIRC, he’s flying to London to record more music with the producers of LLWD.

  209. He’s going to London to record. I guess maybe to record more vocals to Script tracks? Who knows.

The kid should be recording in Nashville. That’s where the top singer-songwriters and producers are,

The direction his single is headed, he better check his boarding passes to make sure 19E booked him a return flight. He might be on the verge of getting Hicks’d.

Maybe 19E felt that the day off at the beach yesterday was all he needed ?
Maybe a new single if LLWD doesn’t live up to potential?

  212. Kris’ trip had been scheduled even before the tour ended. I remember he told the guy who interviewed him on the last day of concert in Manchester that he will not have any rest this year and might not be able to go home to Arkansas. He did mention travelling to London after New York and then back to LA.
He is going to work with the producers and writters of the new song:

“WRITTEN ALL OVER MY FACE”. The radio appearances can be pre-recorded. The open house party he did yesterday was the same. So it’s likely if he has appearances, it has been recorded already and I don’t think he will spend more than 2days up there.

  213. Kris has an October 15th deadline to finish his album. That’s in just a little over 2 weeks. As much as he needs both, he has precious little time for relaxation or radio promotion. They will have to wait until after the album is finished. It would mean big big trouble if he were to need to delay the release until after Black Friday. Delaying the release even one week past the original November 17th date would not be good either because then his album would have to compete head on with Adam Lambert’s album.

    LLWD has dropped another notch…

  214. (brought over from Adam Album thread since it seems to more on topic here)

    NewFan:

I think the differences in chart ranking for LLWD that you’re seeing are because:

    1. Not all of the web-based chart listings are updated as often as the chart that is within the iTunes store itself.
    2. Many of these web-based chart listings do not include songs classified as “explicit,” basically an NC-17 rating for a song.

On the chart within the iTunes store, I believe there are 8 songs above LLWD with an explicit rating (mostly rap). Someone super helpful in a previous thread provided what seems to be the most up-to-date web-based chart listing, which is a direct feed page.

    feed://ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wpa/MRSS/topsongs/sf=9123444/limit=0000/rss.xml

Because it’s a feed rather than a normal web page, it’s a little odd. Apparently in order for you to truly refresh the page, you need to edit the number within this part: sf=9123444 of the link and replace it with any random number, then hit your Enter key. It doesn’t matter what, I usually just change one digit, and that’s enough to force a refresh of the feed.

  215. Kris getting Hicked:

Thank you HWC- couldn’t say it better myself….

  216. I do too, I think Kris’s style suits him to a T. Not a big fan of the shoes, but I like the story behind them so I’m good. Kris is adorable just the way he is.

What’s the story behind his shoes?

  217. 2. Many of these web-based chart listings do not include songs classified as ‘explicit,’ basically an NC-17 rating for a song.

I think the answer is simple – Kris needs to do an explicit version of LLWD – I would SO download that just to hear Kris curse :-)

  218. I think the answer is simple ‘“ [the kid] needs to do an explicit version of LLWD ‘“ I would SO download that just to hear [him] curse

At this point, he might want to consider major surgery to stop the bleeding. Maybe, a wardrobe malfunction duet with Justin Timberlake.

The way this song is going, it may be dropped from his set before it’s even added.

  219. from Allison4Realzzz

listenin’ to @KrisAllen4Real s.. ” live like were dying” .. you guys gata get it.. its amazing..!!

  220. Maria22: Maybe a new single if LLWD doesn’t live up to potential?

I agree completely that he needs a new song because this is not going to be the kind of hit that Kris deserves. But I doubt that they will release a third Kris single before they release his album.

But, what potential? LLWD is a song that The Script only put on as a bonus track on one Japanese version of their album and on a deluxe CD Single — clearly they believed that had 12 better songs. And even the best The Script single peaked at #114 on the US charts.

No, I said it when the first speculation that this was the song was posted — and again too many times — Jive/19R screwed this whole thing up. They made a bad choice for Kris’ lead single and the marketing for it was dismal. And radio airplay might help but not that much. I am so angry with Jive/19R that I have steam coming out of my ears.

Q3 – I understand your anxiety – but I truly believe that the song has great potential, especially for longer term staying power (it has gotten very positive reviews across the board) – and that, while Jive has been very slow with any kind of media push for it, that it WILL pick up this week with more PR (as in itunes banner, etc. – one can hope).
