Kris Allen – Mix 104.1 Event – Boston, MA

video: solflower22

Kris Allen performed at a radio even in Boston today. Here he is, in the middle of his set, dancing with Mix 104.1 morning DJ, Karson, high on top of the Collonade Hotel.

It was a little chilly and a little windy in Boston today!

Kris performed, “Man in the Mirror”, “Falling Slowly”, and “Heartless” before his handlers whisked him away. Singer/songwriter, David Gray, was also on the bill.

I hear there’s more video. I’ll post it as it pops up, so watch this space…

Update: Video after the jump!!!

  1. I love Kris’ dancing, but I am so sick of that shirt. It needs to go in the rag bag. He’s worn it to death.

  2. Sorry, I’m not always well informed. Was this the event with David Grey or is that another event??

  3. CindyM

Yes, this was the event with David Grey. But Kris didn’t perform with him or anything, as far as I can tell. Kris did his set, and I guess David Grey’s set was later on in the day.

Thanks, for some reason I thought it was going to be a bigger event. I didn’t realize it was on a roof. I need to learn to read better..LOL.

Agreed. Kris is indeed adorable, but I, too, am weary of the plaid. He can still have his “guy next door” look …a t-shirt…a baseball jersey…bare chest (lol) I don’t care….just. please. no. plaid.

  6. Kris is too cute. that guy beside him is really tall. can’t wait to see falling slowly again.

  7. Nice videos of today’s events, (from what I’ve seen so far — I’m watching now.) Definitely gives the singer-songwriter vibe with this format, but we know that Kris can rock a large venue, too. His voice sounds a bit more rested than yesterday, IMO, (from what I’ve heard so far.)

I hope that Katy was able to be with him.

  8. Oh his falling slowly was so great I don’t know how to link or I would. It was even better then yesterday or when he sung it on Idol. It’s up on youtube all ready.

  9. Kris just tweeted about his appearance:

  10. That dance is beyond awesome. Kris is such a good sport to do that. I love that he doesn’t take himself too seriously, and isn’t afraid to look silly. That is such an attractive quality. I’m also glad that it looks like MITM has returned to his set, hopefully he’ll sing it and his single, as he goes around making these promo appearances.

  11. As far as I’m concerned, he can wear that plaid shirt every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Unless, of course, he wants to go sans shirt all together. He looks gorgeous in it.

    Man in the Mirror

Thanks for posting. IMHO Kris needs to rest. He seemed to me to appear run down. I believe you can tell he is still sick and his voice is not at the level I have come to enjoy with him. I think he was better yesterday. Man in the Mirror was not that good and the last note, ugh. Falling Slowing-I think no matter what level his voice is in he sings this song great. I am just sad this is what first time listeners hear of him. He is so much better a singer then what he was able to show today. He played fantastic!!!

  13. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t object to the plaid, it’s the colors in this plaid shirt turquoise and fuscia that annoys me. I agree Kris shirtless may be the best remedy.

  14. I thought Kris looked and sounded great today! It seemed like he had more energy than yesterday. I love the passion he puts into his songs. I never get tired of listening to him!

  15. Almost christmas time for Kris fans. Monday is nearly here. Are you guys going to attack the package or savor the experience like a fine wine?

  16. MJ, you didn’t get a pass? Boo, mix!!!

Love you, Kris, but please take a day off! Rest your beautiful voice for Monday! At least it’s an easy trip from Boston to NYC, but I hope he gets to fly and not take another bus.

Almost christmas time for Kris fans. Monday is nearly here. Are you guys going to attack the package or savor the experience like a fine wine?

I am going to savor the experience by guzzling that fine wine and then attack the package! ;-)

  18. So freaking nice. I wish Kris could include a cover of Man in the Mirror as an extra track for his album, it deserves to be recorded.

    The videos are great btw.

  19. very cute.
The sound is better in a concert hall like yesterday. I liked his performances, very felt as usual. I agree with some comments above that he needs a little break

  20. Kris sounded amazing on Man in the Mirror, totally agree. But srsly, lose the shirt. Auction it off for charity. Simple t-shirts are a better look. ;)

  21. I love Kris’ dancing, but I am so sick of that shirt. It needs to go in the rag bag. He’s worn it to death.

It’s funny because over on twitter we were having the same discussion re Drake’s wife-beater (tank) tops. Adam is attracted to both men, but neither of them dresses up to his standards. You’d think Adam’s sense of style would have worn off on Kris and Drake…??

  22. I loved him yesterday in the black shirt. I actually thought he sounded alot better today. Even thou I do agree that he need’s to rest it for Monday. Which I can’t wait for. I loved the disco dance.

  23. Kris needs to get the people handling his official website fired. It’s a shame the general public blogs have more current information about where he is and what he is doing than his official website. It still says nothing about his single being released Monday. Allison’s site is the same way it must just be a 19/Jive thing. I know a group of 13 year olds who would be glad to take over. Can’t wait until Monday, will be late for work.

  24. “Man in the Mirror was not that good and the last note, ugh.” — Dhunken

I don’t know about that. I just listened to an MP3 of it and it sounded flawless. I love his interpretation of this song. All his songs, really. Kris is very talented. As far as Kris fashion sense is concerened, he dresses like a guy his age should dress. My son wears plaid every day of the week to school. We hit American Eagle, Hollister and the Gap and some other stores. He needs to wear collared shirts to school and I personally love the look. As Kris said, “plaid is in.” That’s a fact.

  25. I think he looks and sounds awesome. I really loved his voice on Man In the Mirror. Thank you for posting these MJ!

  26. Shirt, t-shirt, plaid or nothing. I’m good with all with all of them ;D

Great great videos, kudos to the videographer!!
Seemed like a really nice and relaxed set. Kris sounded better today, IMO.

  27. Yeah I go over there and see if they have anything over there and it never does. Even thou didn’t they post something the other day, about asking you to post question’s for Kris and they might be answered. Even thou I think they should be more worried about promotting his music, and show’s and stuff his going to be doing.

  28. I live on the West Coast but I think I will get up early on Monday to hear the new single live! I can’t wait!

  29. Don’t know where he was headed, but his handlers rushed him out of there after his set ended and Kris said he had a plane to catch. Why does that sound like he’s going to be working tomorrow (maybe in NYC recording studio)?

  30. Kris needs to get the people handling his official website fired. It’s a shame the general public blogs have more current information about where he is and what he is doing than his official website. It still says nothing about his single being released Monday. Allison’s site is the same way it must just be a 19/Jive thing.

Adam’s site also sucks, so maybe more a 19 thing in general. Though I guess that Adam’s site is slightly more update, but just kind of. For all three of them, it could be so much better considering it’s their offical online presence and that it wouldn’t take much to make much better websites for all three. I know a bunch of WebDevs that could do in in a day.

Fine with Kris and plaid, but yeah, ready for him to have some new plaid. Prefer him in that black yesterday, that was hot. That or shirtless, I’m fine with either one.

I floved the dance of Kris’s, so cute! I love people who can be silly and don’t take themselves to seriously. And good to see he hasn’t forgotten everything Paula taught him.

  31. I don’t know were his going but the twitter with the real nice picture of Kris said that they were running late.

  32. Kris sounded amazing on all three songs =D..and btw I love that shirt on him.

  33. Krisallenoffical sucks donkey balls.

    That pace is just pitiful.
Do the web people there know he has an album coming out??? I would think that should be front and center on the site with links to both amazon and Itunes. Also there is no updates on events.

  34. He’s just a doll. No matter how you slice it. Plaid or not. (I, too, prefer yesterday’s black T-shirt.) But the guy is just so moved by music and refreshingly real and talented that–for me–the clothes just don’t matter.

Honestly, I think it’s cool that he keeps wearing the shirt he donned for his birthday dinner. (I know, scary that I know that.) He’s just a sweet guy who’s going to release a single on Monday about what really matters in life. I’ve read the controversy over the “cover.” And I don’t care. Because that song–if the lyrics stay true to the published works–fit Kris like that fuscia and plaid shirt. They’re just him. And it gives me great comfort to see that dream come true.

I am so sorry that MJ’s videos from the last show have been yanked, because I don’t think I’ve seen anything more beautiful than the smile on Kris’s face before he began Ain’t No Sunshine. In that silent, personal moment, before he began the song, for what would likely be the last time, he was just giddy. (Then, as we know, the boys stepped in with the boas and made it even more epic.)

The guy is just beautiful in his love of music. And, as others have said, he’s transported by it. Yeah, funny facial expressions aside, it’s who he is. Like that plaid shirt…and his committment to causes bigger than our pocket idol himself. He’s real and he’s special.

Oh, and back on topic…I thought every clip was terrific today. From the silly dance to the emotive and evocative Falling Slowly. And the guitar playing is the best I’ve ever heard from Kris. It simply punctuated all his artistic phrasing. Nice job.

  35. Like I said above. There more worried about asking us fan’s to leave question’s for Kris to answer.

  36. I am torn about Kris’s performance today vs. yesterday, in some ways it’s better because a lot less shouty and thank goodness for that. But vocally he had one or two off notes more than yesterday. That final note in MiTM was totally missed (like he used to do on the show, to my frustration). evanjane it’s at 3:32-3:33 and yeah, he totally biffed it. Not a big deal, but if you are looking for what dhunken is referring to, that’s it. And his crappy diction for MiTM didn’t improve from yesterday, which is weird, because he wasn’t like that on the other songs, and wasn’t like that in past with that song.

But tonally I liked him better on MiTM and Falling Slowly. Falling Slowly especially doesn’t need him shouting, so his voice just complimented the song’s vibe better here. So despite being a bit shakier notes wise, I prefer today’s performances because tonally, and style wise, it just classsic Kris and really plays to his strengths. Heck, I even liked his Heartless here and I’m so beyond sick of that song at this point. Oh and for Alison? not as much “Soooooooouuuuuuuuuuulllllllll,” this time around and this is part of what probably improved the song for me here.

Still a shame we couldn’t have heard his new single. Boo. One more day…grrrr.

Oh and I hope Kris is getting his rest. He needs it.

  37. The videos were yanked???!!!!!! SAD. I didn’t see the youtubes frm the last show D: sighs .whatevs

I like kris’splaid-it’s like his thing

what sucks is school starts at 7:50.i’ll be on the bus at 7:40D: even if I take my iPod I won’t hve safari D: I’ll see it when I get home………:/

  38. What a sweetheart. Thanks so much for the videos. He sounds and looks awesome. I just can’t hear his “Falling Slowly” often enough. And I really, really like how he’s changed up MITM since AI. I kind of hope, as a tribute to Michael Jackson, he puts that as a bonus track on his album. Because it clearly means something to Kris, and he does it so very well.

  39. Kris looks good in plaid. When are they going to give him a break? He must be really tired. Thank goodness Katy is there with him.

  40. Oh, and his guitar is also awesome now that I can actually hear it, especially on “Heartless.” This may just be the best “Heartless” ever.

Man, I wish I had been on that rooftop. That’s a really nice set right there. You get down with your plaid self, Pocket Idol!

  41. Doesn’t the winner of AI receive a clothing allowance?

He’s a celeb now. Celebs don’t appear in the same outfit day after day after day. . .

  42. You’d think Adam’s sense of style would have worn off on Kris and Drake’ ¦??

Should they wear nail polish and make up? Adam’s “sense of style” is a bit different. It suits him but would not suit everybody.

  43. Dietcoke

No one who was at either yesterday’s or today’s event reported seeing Katy at either of these. So she may not actually be travelling with Kris right now.

  44. LOL Ross.although I wouldn’t mind seeing kris in nailpolish once ;)

  45. Kris looks great no matter what he wears. And plaid is “in”.

I don’t understand the complaints. Most male musicians that I know wear t-shirts or button down shirts with jeans or slacks when they perform. So what’s the big deal? Kris dresses like a 24-year-old…which is what he is…

  46. Kris should not dress like Adam or anyone else. Remember, when in a couple if interviews of the Portland show..he was wearing that sort of hat/ beanie and everyone said that Oh..Adam wore that before.. Kris is copying him..or Adam bought him the hat..or something of the sort. I thought it was ridiculous, why can’t Kris wear a hat without being related to someone else? Kris should dress in whatever he feels comfortable in. Oh and he owns the plaid shirts ..lol

Should they wear nail polish and make up? Adam’s ‘sense of style’ is a bit different. It suits him but would not suit everybody.

LOL..I agree. We did see Kris wear nail polish on his thumb, though!

I thought Katy was with them on the way to the airport after the last show? Isn’t that what was reported? We sure haven’t seen them together much lately. I’d love to see a pic of them looking at each other like Adam and Drake in those pics from last night. Lately the pics of them together (when there have been) look too serious. They are so adorable together, though.

  49. The DJ wouldn’t have asked Adam those same questions, right? Kris at least knows his sports…

  50. I don’t understand the complaints. Most male musicians that I know wear t-shirts or button down shirts with jeans or slacks when they perform. So what’s the big deal? Kris dresses like a 24-year-old’ ¦which is what he is’ ¦

I like the plaid on him. But I’ll admit I’m tired of the SAME plaid shirts and the same GREY jeans. There’s so many variations on plaid, lets get some new colors! He looks cute, either way.

Luv, it is still being processed – new upload. maybe in a bit :)

  52. I am still soooo sad I did not win tix… :(

Anyway, yes, of course Kris can wear anything he wants. But he looks very cool in a simple t-shirt (think Cook, swoon). The plaid shirts are a bit loud and distracting… ;)

I think he sounded better today than yesterday and certainly more relaxed. A good night’s sleep and leisurely day off tomorrow (prior to or after getting into NYC) would do him a world of good. BTW, I think Kris looks adorable in a beanie. :) And so I am not thought of as being totally shallow, I cannot wait to hear the single on Monday.

ETA: LOL on the sports questions. Well played, Kris, well played. Red Sox and Patriots Nation are in complete agreement with you. ;)

  53. CindyM

Katy was at the final tour concert in Manchester. But it appears she may have gone back to Arkansas — or maybe she’s out in L.A. looking for a place for them to live. Because if she was at yesterday’s or today’s event, you’d think someone would have tweeted about it.

  54. LOL Ross.although I wouldn’t mind seeing kris in nailpolish once.

Well, there was the one thumbnail.

ETA: Oops, somebody said that already.

  55. CindyM

No of course not. Not what I meant. I was just thinking those would have been stupid questions to ask Adam since he cares nothing about sports. Kris on the other hand is a big sports fan. That’s all.

No slight intended to anyone who doesn’t care about sports.

  56. Thnx valilac!!!! Oma vidtomp4.com is working again.I NEED HELP!!! Adam pre-idol song list.PLZ post on headlines .ill love you forever…:)

  57. Doesn’t the winner of AI receive a clothing allowance?

He’s a celeb now. Celebs don’t appear in the same outfit day after day after day. . .

He doesn’t need to do that. Plaid and tshirts are his thing, as they are for most guys. Heck, Adam also sticks to mostly tshirts and yes, he’s been known to rock the plaid once and a while. So not as if what Kris is wearing isn’t cool, fine and totally him, it is. Just personally? I’ve seen Kris in that plaid shirt so many times, I just want to see just maybe a few new plaids. That’s it. Oh and that I do prefer him in things like the plain black v-button neck tshir, with the buttons unbuttoned (not that I noticed) that he had on yesterday, to any plaid. I totally blame reading Project Rungay inbetween visiting here, for my recent fashion fixation. Sowwy.

  58. Remember, when in a couple if interviews of the Portland show..he was wearing that sort of hat/ beanie

I thought the hat/beanie was a ten-second identity crisis. It couldn’t have been a bad hair thing… Kris never has a bad hair thing.

  59. CindyM

Are you the poster on round 3 of antibiotics? If so, time to get ye to a new doctor. Sorry Cindy. Completely intrusive and completely OTT … just … feel better soon.

On another note: I really liked and preferred yesterdays’ black t-shirt

  60. Don’t forget, Kris has been living out of a suitcase for months… and hasn’t exactly had much time for shopping. It’s inevitable that we are going to see the same clothes over and over again. Hopefully if a semi-complete move to LA is in the works he will soon be reunited with the rest of his wardrobe … or have time to shop for some new stuff. I would imagine as rare and precious as free time has been lately, shopping probably wasn’t high on his list of priorities.

  61. Kris looked and sounded great. Live performances aren’t meant to be analyzed frame by frame and note by note anyway, but he didn’t sound off to me. He’s an amazing guitar player too, and a very smooth dancer. So cute and fun. Who cares what he’s wearing?

  62. kt_cle, I hear you. From Anoop’s tweet he is discarding his entire tour wardrobe. Kris should do the same but keep him away from Wal-Mart. I hope he still has access to a stylist who can help him out. He must realize that that he will be making a lot of very critical public appearances after his single drops and should dress up a bit.

  63. I love Kris and am so freaking tired of the “shirt”, but umm like Adam (and I do Love Kris more), I’m not listening to this. I’m waiting for their original music. I understand the compelling things that make them repeat Idol songs…songs they may have truly never even wanted to sing. I’m just so ready for their original music and the chance they have to prove to me that I gotta have it. Only one in 7 of 8 seasons has ever proved that to me and well I guess I was already sold, but ummm good luck, season 8 contestants.

  64. He must realize that that he will be making a lot of very critical public appearances after his single drops and should dress up a bit.

Someone’s going to have to give that advice to almost every male rock singer that I’ve seen over the years then, LOL. (Yes, soft rock is still rock.) Jeans and a t-shirt or casual button up shirt are the usual outfit, unless they’re meeting the president or something. And, these days, the jeans are probably artfully torn and frayed.

  65. Ahhhhhh! Please for God’s sake no one should place Kris in the same dressing category with Drake. Ha! I don’t think Kris will ever dress like Drake does to follow Adam. As a Kris fan I must admit I was a little put off when I saw a picture earlier on when he was interview long before the performance.
I felt he might change before performing but that didn’t happen. I mean he can recycle and I’ve seen Kris in nicetops long before the tour. Where are they? I don’t blame anyone because this is Katy’s job too. A lt of men don’t care but wives must. He can start wearing from the begining again and they’ll look new. He should just not repeat tops to occasions where he’ll be filmed or taken pictures of like this one. there must be enough spacing of time, that’s the trick about recycling.
Katy must realize he’s no more the Kris who played guitar in clubs. Someone really needs to talk to her.

  66. Kris is just precious in everything he does. I love him stripped down like this and I loved him rocking out on tour, too. I have no quibble with an off note here or there. That’s the imperfect beauty of a live, acoustic performance. I thought it was all fantastic.

He can wear that shirt every day if he wants to. Looks great on him, and to me he looks like every other 24-year old I know. I have no idea why anyone would want him to change.

Jim Cantiello just tweeted that he’s interviewing Kris again on Monday that should be another epic interview. I’ll be up at 4:30 Monday morning fumbling for coffee and listening online to the new single.

Are you the poster on round 3 of antibiotics? If so, time to get ye to a new doctor. Sorry Cindy. Completely intrusive and completely OTT ‘ ¦ just ‘ ¦ feel better soon.

Yep, that’s me. New doctor is the one who prescribed the 3rd antiobiotic. :(

  68. If I have not been following AI and it’s my first time to hear Kris sing in those videos (today’s & yesterday’s), I would think that he is just okay and certainly not great. I would cut him some slacks due to his not feeling well until a few days ago, and the performing environment (roof top) was not necessarily ideal.

I hope people will take my comment as constructive criticism. I understand kris fans love his musician/songwriter vibe, which I think it’s the direction he should go for, but when you are doing stripped down acoustic version of a song, the execution has to be (close to) perfect, and they were not in those videos. A near flawless vocal performance is even more important in Kris case as I still maintain that his voice is pretty average and generic. I feel that his best performance on Heartless was the one he did during Top 3, and subsequent performances just did not sound as good.

I also think he should change up his wardrobes a bit. Despite his height, he does have a nice body shape, and he looks good on well tailored shirts or tight T shirts. Why wearing same colored Plaid all the time?

Based on what I followed on Tour, the reviews from the cities they performed, and the non fans reactions to him, I feel that of all the Top 4, Kris is actually the one who faces the most challenges in his pursuit to a successful career. I wish all idols the best and certainly would not write Kris off, but we’ll see as things unfold in the next few months.

  69. You’d think Adam’s sense of style would have worn off on Kris and Drake’ ¦??

Actually, according to one of today’s posts on Adam’s TWoP thread, his fashion sense has “worn off” on Kris. Apparently Nancy O’Dell told Adam that it’s a rule to not wear the same thing twice, to which he replied, “It is? Well, that’s a rule I’m not going to follow.”

  70. The majority of rock stars tend to wear vintage/plain T-shirts and flannel as a sort of standard outfit. David Cook wears flannel and vintage Ts to all of his tour stops and showed up to promote the Declaration Tour in flannel, and has continued to sport the same outfit in many public TV appearances. Daughtry doesn’t tend to dress up, either, and one could list off many hard and soft rock acts who don’t feel the need to do so: Jason Mraz, Shinedown, Nickelback, The Fray, Matt Nathanson.

It really isn’t a requirement in the field that he’s in, and it’s not his wife’s responsibility, either. Just because Adam dresses a certain way doesn’t mean everyone else has to, either: especially when none of the male musicians in his field are doing so and it doesn’t really impact their careers one way or the other.

  71. IMO Kris looks great in black and should just wear black all the time — like Johny Cash did. We need a new man in black.

  72. Monday is going to be epic day for us. I can’t wait! Oh BB Kris, we’re happy for you and wish you all success.

  73. Doesn’t the winner of AI receive a clothing allowance?

He’s a celeb now. Celebs don’t appear in the same outfit day after day after day. . .

I think it’s more the suit case thing. Kris has to drag his guitar and his suitcase. He is not a big guy. I would think those get heavy after a while.

  74. Kris and the other Idols probably didn’t pack a lot for the tour — not enough space to bring a ton of clothes with them and who wants to haul a lot of suitcases around with them all over the country? It seems like a lot of t-shirts Kris wore at the m&g’s or whatever actually were fan gifts. There were always excited posts over on ontd_ai whenever someone saw Kris was wearing the shirt they gave him. And it’s not like he wears the exact same outfit on consecutive days — he just rotates through whatever he likes. And as I say, Kris looks great no matter what.

I’m sure he would get more dressed up if he thought it was appropriate to the event. But most of the time, t-shirt and jeans are more than appropriate.

And Katy may be more worried about upgrading her fashion if she decides to go ahead with her plans of trying to become an actress — or even if they just move to L.A. I remember seeing TMZ or some other gossip site ripping her fashion sense — something about wearing sandals from Target or some such shit? It seems like the paps and gossip sites are far harsher on what female celebs or SO’s of male celebs look like/wear than they are on the men themselves… (personally I think Katy always looks good. She’s got more fashion sense than I do, for sure)

  75. I tend to enjoy a performance without the need to overanalyze everything. No Kris is not perfect 100% of the time nor is Adam nor is any performer live. Most of the kids that come off Idol do perform “live” quite well.

On to the shirt : There’s a great picture of Kris and Adam from the GMA performance and Kris is wearing this shirt. It’s the most gorgeous picture of both Adam and Kris and the color of Kris’s shirt makes the picture pop. I’ll never hate that shirt. My personal clothing tastes run closer to Adam’s — black and boots. Doesn’t make it better, just more to my taste. I think Kris looks neat and fashionable 100% of the time. I’ve never seen a fashion faux pas once.

They all have one flaw or another. But, I don’t feel the need to point them out. Bad energy as far as I’m concerned.

Kris would probably freak to know that people actually keep track of what he’s worn to every event. I notice Adam’s boyfriend Drake wears wifebeaters to every event. Adam’s in black most of the time. No big thing.

  76. I prefer Kris to be Kris and not anyone else. If he feels most comfortable in plaid, then so be it.

BTW: I really enjoyed his performances! It is great to see him relaxed and having fun.

  77. It really isn’t a requirement in the field that he’s in, and it’s not his wife’s responsibility, either.

I read an interview (or article) on Katy in one of the Arkansas magazines where she was asked if she bought/helped pick out Kris’ clothes. She was very clear that she does NOT buy him clothing or pick it out for him. She said something to the effect of – “If I did, it would be wrong. He knows what he likes.”

  78. I think that part of Kris’ appeal is that he is so “relatable” (is there such a word). People like him because they see themselves in him. Unlike Adam, who is “otherworldly”, Kris is just like your neighbor who got lucky.

When I see or hear Kris, I always think that, “hey, if he can do it, maybe I can also do it”. It doesn’t need that much to make it” :)) It makes me a little more confident to follow my dreams.

  79. IMO Kris looks great in black and should just wear black all the time ‘” like Johny Cash did. We need a new man in black.

Kris does look great in black. I think his look for “Heartless” was my favorite from the show. I don’t mind the plaid. But I would prefer more t-shirts – tights ones especially. Heh.

This was not my favorite Kris performance of either “Man In The Mirror” or “Falling Slowly”, but I still enjoyed them both. The suspense for the single is driving me crazy though. I wish Monday morning would get here already. And I NEVER say that during the weekend.

  80. He’s a celeb now. Celebs don’t appear in the same outfit day after day after day. . .

He hasn’t had any time to shop, (and I’m guessing that he probably hates to shop), and probably hasn’t even unpacked his suitcase from the tour.

I noticed that I was seeing Adam’s clothes repeat over and over, too, (didn’t pay much attention to anyone else), so even someone who seems far more into fashion was wearing the same things over and over.

Did we get to 100 posts now? I was thinking about Luv, and that she’d want to see at least 100 posts here for Kris. :)

Actually, it’s his publicist’s job, not Katy’s, to keep track of his official appearances and what he wears to each function. No doubt Katy will offer her input if she’s so inclined or if asked by Kris.

As an aside, when discussing men’s clothing, I think “shirt” is a more common terminology than “top”. ;)

I noticed that I was seeing Adam’s clothes repeat over and over, too, (didn’t pay much attention to anyone else), so even someone who seems far more into fashion was wearing the same things over and over.

I think we may be forgetting that casual fans are not like us – watching every single appearance on YouTube videos. Remember the complaints on this blog that Kris and Adam weren’t singing other songs during their media rounds, instead of the ones we’d already heard over and over again?

  82. I noticed that I was seeing Adam’s clothes repeat over and over, too, (didn’t pay much attention to anyone else), so even someone who seems far more into fashion was wearing the same things over and over.

That’s also what endears me to Adam. It makes him appear less like a celebrity and more like just one of us.

  83. No doubt Katy will offer her input if she’s so inclined or if asked by Kris.

I think not so much. See my post a few posts up . Kris wears what he likes, Katy seems to have learned that resistance is futile in picking out clothes for him and is probably rarely asked for her input.

  84. I agree Katy should not be responsible for Kris’s wardrobe. If anyone, it should be 19 ENT and their paid professonals. I remember reading in the Idol Style section of the AI page that Kris is very stubborn when it comes to his clothes. Many times they had to talk him into wearing what they picked out for him. When the show first started, they really wanted to change a lot of his style but he was having none of that. I think given the chance Kris will make the right choice for him.

  85. To be fair, they all repeated clothes on the tour. They had to carry everything with them on the bus, I bet the boys all had about a weeks worth of clothes each, then they would have to repeat, and since Kris still hasn’t gone home from the tour he is still living out of the same suitcase. I think it is kind of fun to see that shirt and think he wore it to GMA and he wore it on his birthday, and I have seen it in some M&G pictures. I guess it is weird that I would know that, but I don’t think I would recognize his other shirts this one just stands out because of the colors.

  86. The stylist on idol said that Kris likes the way he dresses and was not very amenable to try other things. By chance Kris dropped the jeans like 2 sizes over to some that fits him nicely. For the plaid, I find it cute but he should vary a littlte bit more. Like others I LOVE black on him, he loooks so sexy in that color.

  87. For what it’s worth, Kris actually has been back to Arkansas. He and Katy went back to Arkansas the day after the last show in Manchester. He headed up to Michigan and then onto Boston and NYC, and she either stayed in Arkansas or headed out to LA. Kris mentioned that he and Katy have unloaded their apartment in Arkansas, so it sounds like both of them will be in LA, at least for a while, although Kris will no doubt be traveling quite a bit for promotion.

I thought Kris sounded amazing on all three songs, both on the guitar, and vocally. I think this “Falling Slowly” is perhaps the best he’s done. I’ve had an MP3 of it on repeat for hours now. Just gorgeous. And his guitar arrangement of “Man in the Mirror” is also really beautiful.

As for his clothing, honestly, I love the fact that he is an outfit repeater. He likes what he likes. He’s not a clotheshorse, by any means, but he also will only wear what he feels comfortable in. And yeah, it isn’t his wife’s job to style him. I don’t even know where to begin with that.

  88. “It doesn’t need that much to make it’ –Candice

Ummm…not true. We’d all be stars if that was the case. I see that more in the acting field, especially television. Good looks often supercede talent.

Kris has something special about him and he’s a talented musician and singer. Adam, quite sincerely, said Kris’s voice was beautiful. I agree with him.

Vocal tastes vary from person to person, very subjective. My dad hated Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion’s vocals, but loved Charlotte Church for the purity of her vocals and effortless range.

Kris’s music gives me pleasure and bottom line that’s what it’s all about — why listen if it just makes you miserable?

  89. I think that part of Kris’ appeal is that he is so ‘relatable’ (is there such a word). People like him because they see themselves in him. Unlike Adam, who is ‘otherworldly’ , Kris is just like your neighbor who got lucky.

When I see or hear Kris, I always think that, ‘hey, if he can do it, maybe I can also do it’ . It doesn’t need that much to make it’ ) It makes me a little more confident to follow my dreams.

This reminds me of an old interview I read with Bing Crosby, where he described his appeal in almost the exact same way. He even said his popularity as a singer had a lot to do with everyone thinking they could probably sing as well as he could. Not true, of course, but that was the illusion created by his personality.

Also, he was well known for hating to dress up, and favoring plaid shirts.

  90. Luv wanted to get to 100 posts for Kris? How sweet. I’ve been checking back off and on throughout the evening. Had I seen that luv wanted 100, I would have contributed earlier. :)

Love the videos from today. Yes, even better than yesterday. Kris seemed even more comforatble.

When I started reading about the fashion and plaid, I guess I’m just not that concerned about. He looks good. Plaid is in fashion (as I believe Ross was one of the first to say). With his schedule it doesn’t surprise me at all that he’s wearing things multiple times. It’s his branding – his look for now – represents who he comfortably is. “For now” because I would guess he’ll change to something other than plaid not too long from now – perhaps when his new life with a publicist gets into better sync and that person is able to identify the next branded look that he’s comfortbable with.

One of my first thoughts early in the evening was that I never thought about analyzing David Cook’s look – no doubt some did analyze it, but I wasn’t here then. In that same vein as long as Kris continues to look as good and comfortable in his clothes as he has so far, I’m just happy to hear his music and enjoy his bright personality.

    Looking forward to Monday.

  91. I just heard Man in the Mirror. I thought the Ford Motor performance was a tad better but I really like his cover of this song :)

  92. Luv wanted to get to 100 posts for Kris? How sweet. I’ve been checking back off and on throughout the evening. Had I seen that luv wanted 100, I would have contributed earlier.

She posted that for the thread on Kris’s single, so I just figured that she would want this one to get to 100 for Kris, too. Everyone seemed very busy discussing tank tops on a different thread, and here we had Kris doing his first totally solo appearance today. Tank tops don’t seem more newsworthy to me, but then, I’m probably a worse dresser than Drake. Good thing that you can’t see me right now. :)

I’m good with Kris wearing plaid. And, I definitely am looking forward to Monday, and hearing Kris’s single!

  93. Kris is having a twitter party.

Where is Katy? I hope that they get to spend some time together.

Thanks for letting us know about the Twitter party.

  94. RT @djtino224: @KrisAllen4Real When’s your next day off? Looking forward to 2010.22 minutes ago from Echofon

RT @Kradamplz: @krisallen4real Do YOU know what a leoplurodon is? Doesn’t everybody? Duh.

RT @PriscillaF: @krisallen4real have you seen @immattgiraud’s snake? Um…….17 minutes ago from Echofon

  95. Everyone seemed very busy discussing tank tops on a different thread, and here we had Kris doing his first totally solo appearance today.

I sigh. I was trying to not get caught up in the clothes analysis, but you mentioned the tank top. Drakes, I’m sure. Good I didn’t get involved in that thread because Ironically, I do have an opinion about that tank. Bad. Really bad.

And yinyang, whatever you’re wearing right now, you’re probably not on a date with someone you care about who really appreciates high fashion.

    Nuff said.

    Enjoying the Twitter Party.

  96. Not the greatest singer, but a great guy. Hope his album is a BIG success.

  97. Hah! Sarver is trying to take part in Kris’ twitter party

    # @KrisAllen4Real so what do u miss most about the tour. :) hint hint.33 minutes ago from Echofon in reply to KrisAllen4Real

  98. Cuuuuuuute dancing. He’s seriously adorable.

About the plaid: It’d be weird for me to see Kris in anything other than plaid now. Like he says, plaid is just really comfortable…visually pleasing, but not too flashy. Plaid can be his signature look. He can have a plaid clothing line in the future too.

  99. Hah! Sarver is trying to take part in Kris’ twitter party

And, now Sarver is sending other tweets, not directed to Kris. Just stuff like:
michaelsarver1Well I have lost speed on gaining followers but I am close to 20,000. I can;t wait. Hope everyone is well.

michaelsarver1I miss my Idol family. I’m juuuuust sayin!

I’m guessing that Sarver is still adjusting to the end of the tour.

  100. Thanks CindyM.. yes..awww.. very cute. Fun to see Kris loosening up over time. Cute vid

  101. And the twitter party is over. My questions scorned once again.

Mine too. I’ve never gotten one answered. :(

  102. Kris is so funny. (twitter party). The dancing up above was really cute, too. I Love ‘falling’ and ‘Man in the Mirror’ alot, but ‘Heartless’ is getting a little worn out for me. But, I totally understand, they haven’t any time to prepare anything else.

I’m so happy for Kris about Monday. Can’t wait to hear the full song!

  103. OMG
the Kradam DSB dance video is sooooo repetitive. set into a continuous loop it could easily become a method of torture. hopefully they didn’t find it that tedious.

***** please do tell… more about the twitter party. i’ve missed it.

  104. girlygirl and leeaundra, you’re not alone – none of mine got answered either. But I was watching the questions come in on my TweetDeck – it refreshes automatically every 45 seconds or so, and shows up to 100 replies… most refreshes were maxed out. I don’t know how he sorted through all of the traffic on his iPhone and managed to give his replies. I couldn’t have done it, and I love my iPhone!

  105. Am glad his starting to do twitter party’s,so cute. He sure likes to answer the wired questions thou.

  106. So someone whose tweet was answered by Kris asked him what his favorite drink was. In true Kris style, he replied green drank. To which I was like…WTF is green drank?

AS ALWAYS, WITH KRIS ALLEN, URBAN DICTIONARY IS YOUR FRIEND:

    green drank

The resulting mixture when blue powerade is mixed with orange Hi-C in a 4:3 ratio. It appears like stagnant dirty algae pond water. However, green drank tastes like when you take a Fruit Roll-Up, roll it up into a ball, and eat it, except in liquid form.

Ok, yeah, can’t decide if this sounds disgusting or weirdly tasty…

  107. Ew, Kris has belly button lint.

Huh, green drank actually sounds pretty good to me. I like balled up Fruit Roll Ups.

  108. Oh, also:

RT @Nadskerd: @KrisAllen4Real, are you buying any albums this fall? @Allison4Realzzz @adamlambert @jasoncastro @johncmayer @switchfoot.less than 20 seconds ago from Echofon

So he’s buying albums by 2 guys whose albums are dropping on the same day of his own…now how is he supposed to get the #1 album by doing that???? LOL

  109. Yeah that belly button answer. Gross but so funny. Thanks for the information girlgirl.I was wondering what he was talking about when he answered that drink question.

  110. when I read that about the belly button lint I was like — ooh, shirtless Hot Pocket!!

what can I say, I gotta dirty mind…

  111. OMG just when I thought Kris could not get any better, he proves yet again with these kick-awesome performances. I thought these are even better than the Ford Day ones. Maybe it’s due to the better video quality and nice Boston’s landscape view?

  112. So he’s buying albums by 2 guys whose albums are dropping on the same day of his own’ ¦now how is he supposed to get the #1 album by doing that???? LOL

He didn’t say WHEN he was buying them, other than this fall. Maybe he’ll wait until his album has been out a while. And, he didn’t say how many of his own album he’s buying, to off-set buying any others released the same day. :)

  113. are any of you guys getting viruses when your on this site. After so many refreshes a virus warning shows up. Should I e-mail MJ about it?

  114. are any of you guys getting viruses when your on this site.

I haven’t had any lately. I did a while back, but not recently.

  115. I also think Kris having a twitter party supports the idea that Katy is NOT traveling with him…because it would not be a good idea to ignore the wife you’ve barely seen for months in order to hang out with strangers on twitter…

  116. I also think Kris having a twitter party supports the idea that Katy is NOT traveling with him’ ¦because it would not be a good idea to ignore the wife you’ve barely seen for months in order to hang out with strangers on twitter’ ¦

Yes, I accepted that I was incorrect as to Katy’s whereabouts when he decided to have a twitter party. I had thought I saw a daytime picture of her in the past couple of days (she was wearing a scarf), but it was probably a bit older.

  117. Oh and I want to say a big THANK YOU to the fans who have taken the trouble to post the videos so that fans from other parts of the world can enjoy his performances. Kris’s fans are AWESOME!!!

  118. He didn’t say WHEN he was buying them, other than this fall. Maybe he’ll wait until his album has been out a while. And, he didn’t say how many of his own album he’s buying, to off-set buying any others released the same day.

Even though they don’t come out on the same day as his, I doubt Kris will have to buy Allison’s and Adam’s albums. He will probably a free inscribed copy of each of those.

  119. If it makes you feel any better, likely Jason will also buy Kris’s album, so the sales will cancel each other out. I realize they are viewed as “competition”, but those two have definitely been in some sort of contact and honestly Kris and Jason would probably wind up becoming good friends if they ever had any free time to just hang out. Personality wise I think they are pretty similar.

  120. Hope no one takes this wrong, but it was refreshing for me, as a Kris fan, to see him do this gig solo. I thought his singing and particularly the guitar playing were very strong, or possibly the recording or sound at the event were just better. We’ve seen him so often in tandem with Adam I was wondering about how he would stand alone. LOVED the dancing — guy’s gotta be pretty secure to do that. Sounds like he’s back to 100% health.
On a side note, GO DAWGS! Thought the Razorbacks were going to dominate last night, but my team pulled it out. Sorry, Kris and Katy….

  121. I finally saw the Q & A before the performance, and found out the reason Kris was doing the dance. It made so much more sense.

I think Kris has to be making a good impression wherever he goes, he’s so attentive to everyone, such a nice, charming guy, and a lot of fun. He did a great job on his first real gig away from the show.

  122. That was fun. I’d like to see what prompted the dance. Is there any other video of this event?

Kris sounds great. Looking forward to hearing his new single tomorrow.

  123. What did he say his favorite song on the show was his favorite? I couldn’t hear that part. I so love his little dance. His so darn awesome. I don’t know why some people thinks his boring. And he did seem really more relax there. I love both him and Adam but I am glad that they both get to go there seperate way’s and get to get there music life going. Tomorrow party time day. We get to hear his new single can’t wait. And can’t wait for Adam’s to. I loved all three songs, but FSL had me in tears,I sure love when he sings it. So much emotion. And of coure I really loved MITM,and even heartless. But that little dance was by far my favorite.

  124. He says that his favorite song to sing on Idol was “Aint’ no sunshine”. He is really happy with the arrangement he came up with (or something like that)

  125. Thank you mmk28. One of my favorites to.Of course my favorite is FSL. But ANS is my second favorite.

  126. I always see kris connect to the music.. this performance of falling slowly he connected to the lryics. <<<<>>>> I like this one better than the Ford one! Does anyone else see a difference?

  127. “are any of you guys getting viruses when your on this site. After so many refreshes a virus warning shows up. Should I e-mail MJ about it?’

I got one from here yesterday. I am currently trying
    to get rid of it.

  128. Will told me to e-mail MJ so she could compare notes. So I e-mailed her this morning. Did you e-mail her tomermichelle? If not you should so she’ll know that it’s more then me and will that got it.

  129. Will told me to e-mail MJ so she could compare notes. So I e-mailed her this morning. Did you e-mail her to mermichelle? If not you should so she’ll know that it’s more then me and will that got it.

    Will do….thanks

I started not to answer this because I don’t want to be some defensive Kris fan, but the more I thought about this as I was trying to sleep last night, i realized I should attempt a reply to this.

The criteria of perfection that was just mentioned above, keeping in the vein of constructive criticism, does not even apply to how I judge music. I am honestly happy that people have a wide variety of musical tastes that are different from my own, but I can already tell that I don’t share the same criteria for enjoying music. Music for me is not some machine-like collection of pretty sounds and standardized viewpoint of perfect technique. I ain’t seeking mechanical perfection.

Seriously, what matters the most to me is whether or not I connect to the music. I think that due to people wanting totally different things out of their music experiences and having different personalities, not everyone is going to connect to the same singers. For me, I want music that I can totally get lost in and feel the music instead of listening to the sound of the music. A lot of musicians kind of come close, but Kris is in a rare field of musicians that I can connect to on a subconscious level where I feel the music and think the lyrics along with Kris instead of just listening.

Kris’s complete naturalness, and unbelievable organic musicality is a really rare talent. Really rare talent and too easily overlooked. It is much easier to notice a glory note or a wide range of notes being sung by a singer, but the gifts that Kris has for musical connection on an emotional level are also very special, and I am glad that Kris lets us feel like we are entering his private musical world. Kris is so open when he performs. While I agree that Kris is in the need of voice lessons and much better vocal conditioning, I still find Kris’s voice to be gorgeous and it has so much depth and texture. Kris is more than a pretty voice. Kris can make me shiver and that is rare.

I maintain that for me that Kris is neither average or generic, but Kris’s gift of musical connection is not going to appeal to everyone, but it is special for me.

  131. I agree with everything you said Soapbox0196. That’s exactly how I feel about Kris. I get so involved with his performance that it just takes me away for awhile. And when he sings FSL I get so moved that I cry. He makes me feel so many different emotions all at once.

  132. Watch him closely… his career is disappearing before our very eyes into the Idol abyss… maybe he can get some advice from David Cook and Taylor Hicks.

  133. Kris Allen is kick-awesome! Can’t wait for his album :D Many of my friends are gonna buy it on the release date ;)

  134. JB1.. Really?? To me it looks like it is just kicking off. He does have a song that is being released to radio tomorrow & a record due in November and is out and about at various events. I think I would wait until after he has at least had a chance before saying he is disappearing.

  135. I agree with you, Soapbox 0916. You explained the way I feel perfectly!

  136. I. Love. This.

I first knew Kris was a very special kind of musician when he sang this on the show. Now he’s kept his passionate vocal performance (is it just my ears, or has this tour really strengthened his voice? it sounds more vigorous now), but he’s added a kind of samba rhythm that’s just great. Very inventive guitar player, in terms of chording and harmonics.

I’d love to see this on his record — there was never a studio edition from the show, or am I wrong?

One of my very favorite homages to MIchael J. also….

  137. soapbox0916,

You expressed what I feel very well. I was reading a blog from a voca coach and she was talking about Kris voice’s brilliance and I thin it’s a good term for the richness of it. She was talking too about bad vocal techniques and this he can improve definitly

  138. Kris’s voice timbre is unusually warm and sweet. He also sounds so natural and genuine. I hope he doesn’t get so much vocal training that he loses that.

  139. While I agree that Kris is in the need of voice lessons and much better vocal conditioning, I still find Kris’s voice to be gorgeous and it has so much depth and texture. Kris is more than a pretty voice. Kris can make me shiver and that is rare.

I loved your post but I’m afraid I can’t agree Kris needs voice lessons. Is pop music becoming opera, or something, all of a sudden? Did the Beatles need voice lessons? Mick Jagger? The little flaws and quirks of the untrained voice are to me part of the thrill of pop music singers I love, from Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland to a lot of the bands of today. That’s just my opinion and I dont expect everyone (or anyone) to agree with it.

One other thing I wanted to mention about Kris’s performances in Boston is his sense of rhythm. It blows me away. Just watch MITM and listen for how he works out the rhythms. The instinctive, razor-sharp feeling for rhythm he has. And nobody who was his competition on the show last season had that.

  140. Thanks for the appreciation since I wrote a book length post. I just had to get that off my chest.

I just meant voice lesson in order to make Kris a better Kris and give Kris better control over his voice. For example, I think Kris is trying to control way too much of his singing with his throat muscles which is cutting off some his natural quirks and texture that I absolutely love.

I love that Kris is really humble guy, but I think he is a little too humble about the quality of his voice. Kris still has so much raw potential. Kris has just scratched the surface.

Kris is all about expressing himself and is all about the music, so I don’t think Kris thinks about showcasing his voice in order to show off his voice, but he naturally has a rich voice with depth and texture. I only want just enough voice lessons to help Kris showcase his gorgeous voice and help Kris showcase himself as himself.

Yeah totally agree about too much vocal lessons. I do love raw and natural. I have seen so many get caught up in whether or not some has perfect technique and forget that technique is a just tool to help singers.

  141. Ross:

Did the Beatles need voice lessons? Mick Jagger? The little flaws and quirks of the untrained voice are to me part of the thrill of pop music singers I love

I TOTALLY agree with you. I love natural voices.

  142. The little flaws and quirks of the untrained voice are to me part of the thrill of pop music singers I love

Same here. I think this is the main reason I prefer his voice to Adam’s, although I am impressed with Adam’s strength and range. I appreciate singers who work hard and get professional training to improve/preserve their voices, but I just prefer a less polished sound.

I hope that any vocal coaching that Kris receives doesn’t change the tone of his voice too much but helps him expand his range (love his lower register) and prevent any damage to his vocal chords.

  143. In anticipation of the release of Kris’ single this morning, I did a little digging thru MJs archives to get a clue to when the song might be available to listen to on my ipod. Looks like maybe at least a week, bummer :-(

  145. We should get some good interviews too. But Slezak and jim are going t be there. There such Kris fan’s, I think it’s so cute. There both say the race is on to see who Kris hugs first. So funny. 44 minutes to go.

  146. Thank you mmk28. Much more fun after already being fun when you get the whole thing. Much as I love the performances, I seriously love the interviews and chat from any artist performing on these types of shows/appearances.

For Soapbox, I agree with just about everything you said.

Darn I missed Kris on Z100 … BUT here is the link to the song. http://z100.elvisduran.com/pages/news/krisallen/index.html

    Love it!

  147. Soapbox0916 – An articulate expression of exactly the way I feel. Thank you for putting your thoughts into words. There is something about Kris’ music that just connects with me and brightens my day. In watching his tour videos or the videos above, I find myself just staring at the screen with a stupid grin on my face as I watch him and listen to him. Listened to the interview on z100 and Kris’ single with the same expression.
