Kique Positive Covid Test: How The Voice Handled It

The Voice season 22 Gop 10 Kique tested positive for Covid-19

Team Gwen Stefani member, Kique Gomez, fought his way into the Top 10 last week when he sang for the Instant Save and WON. Unfortunately, earning that second chance did not translate into a live performance Monday night! A Kique Positive Covid Test before his scheduled performance of the fan-picked cover, The Weeknd’s “Call Out My Name” meant that the show had to get creative. (Read our Recap).

Fortunately, the singer was still able to perform for America’s Votes–just not live in The Voice studio in front of an audience and coaches Gwen, Blake Shelton, Camila Cabello and John Legend.

Kique Positive Covid Test “I had to do some really new things and sing for robot cameras”

Kique explained to fans on social media how production handled his performance:

“Unfortunately this was as close as I was gonna get to being next to Gwen Stefani today,” Kique wrote. “I TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID.”

Kique offered more details: “So this Friday I tested positive and then the production crew at @nbcthevoice started working immediately to make a seamless show. I had to do some really new things and sing for robot cameras instead of an awesome audience, but at the end of the day I am so grateful to still be [here]. VOTE ON THE APP AND THE WEBSITE LOVE YOU ALLLLL”

The singer had already taped his rehearsal video package with his coach, Gwen. But testing COVID-19 positive on Saturday did not give him enough time to recover. The good news, is the lead time allowed production to plan a stage performance. If he had tested positive later, he would have been singing an acoustic rendition from his hotel room! Or maybe the show would have aired rehearsal footage.

Host Carson Daly did not reveal Kique was not in the studio until after his video package ran. Then, he said, “Unfortunately Kique could not be with us in person tonight but the good news is that we pre-recorded his performance in another location and you are still able to vote for him.”

“I’m not feeling to great man”

After Kique’s recorded performance, on a stage singing to a backing track, the singer joined the show live via remote. “I’m not feeling to great man,” Kique admitted when Carson asked how he was doing. “Unfortunately, I tested positive for COVID,” He continued, “But I’m glad I can still be a part of this and that America can still vote.”

“Kique! You’re in a box! A COVID box!” Gwen joked. “I am so unbelievably proud to be your coach…you were absolutely flawless. The fact that you have to be sick right now, I’m so sorry, but I’m praying for you, and voting for you. So’s America!”

It will be interesting to see how the show handles Kique’s performance if he has to sing for the Instant Save AGAIN on Tuesday’s results show. Did he film two performances just in case? Will he do the remote acoustic deal from his hotel room? Or will America vote him through? Find out tonight (Nov. 29) on NBC at 8 pm.
