Michael Strahan’s departure from Live with Kelly and Michael probably can’t come soon enough. Ever since Kelly Ripa returned to the show last week, after sitting out for a few days in protest due to ABC announcing Michael’s departure for GMA without giving her ample notice, it’s been a little uneasy on set.
On Tuesday’s telecast, when Kelly announced Michael’s last day on the morning talker would be next Friday, May 13, the audience started booing in response.
“We still love you, Kelly!” one person shouted from the crowd. “Oh, thanks!” she replied sarcastically. “I’m still here!”
The point of announcing Michael’s last day was to promote his upcoming goodbye party. “We’ll remember, we’ll reminisce, we’re gonna look back at the fun times we had together,” Kelly said, with a straight face. “Wait ’til you see all the stuff that we’ve done. You’re not gonna believe it … So, join us for Michael’s ‘Flashback Friday Farewell’ on Friday the 13th!”
Friday the 13th sounds fitting, doesn’t it? Meanwhile, Kelly’s first guest host has been announced. Jimmy Kimmel of ABC’s late night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live will take a seat next to Kelly on Monday May 16. Guest hosts will rotate in the spot until the network is ready to announce a replacement. The stint will serve as a tryout for some of them.
