Saturday night, Kelly Clarkson’s Miracle on Broadway benefit at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, raised $400,000–$200,000 came from ticket proceeds, merchandise and a text-to-donate option at the show. The figure was matched by participants Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood.
In addition to Garth and Trisha, the Nashville superstars who performed at what Kelly hopes will become a yearly event, included Kix Brooks, Ronnie Dunn, Charles Esten, Meghan Trainor, Kacey Musgraves, Martina McBride and Paramore’s Hayley Williams.
When Kelly came up with the idea to mount a charity show to benefit local Nashville charities, she enlisted her mother-in-law, Reba McIntyre to help. “I figured if I got (Reba), everyone would have to say yes,” said Kelly. “I’ve never asked an artist to do anything other than sing with me which a lot of people say no and it hurts my feelings, which is OK.”
Luckily, the American Idol winner got a slew of yeses, and promises from other artists, like Dolly Parton, to participate in next year’s show.
The proceeds from “Miracle on Broadway” will go to benefit The Fruition Fund, which was established by Kelly through the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. The rest of the funds will be distributed to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, Monroe Harding Children’s Home, Second Harvest Food Bank and Thistle Farms.
