Some of you may remember the steady stream of Kelly Clarkson song leaks on the internet a while back? Kelly complained angrily on twitter that her computer had been hacked. At least a dozen songs were leaked online over a period of a few months. You didn’t read about it here–after learning the songs were swiped, I decided not to post them.
Who would have broken into Kelly’s computer to take her songs? Was it a fan? An enemy? Well, It looks like German police may be closing in on the “Star Hacker” ring responsible for swiping music from Kelly and other artists including Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Ke$ha.
The hacking scandal is said to have been exposed after suspicious fans of Kelly alerted her fan club to the leaked tracks.
According to German police, hackers broke into the stars’ computers via a Trojan horse virus, downloading unreleased music and in the case of poor Ke$sha an “intimate” photo the alleged thieves used in attempted blackmail against the “Tik Tok” star.
The men. aged 17 and 23, are from the German cities of Duisburg and Wesel. They are under investigation but have not yet been charged with any offense.
Universal Music’s Senior Director of Promotion, Publicity & PR in Germany, Sven Kilthau-Lander – who handles publicity for artists including Gaga and Rihanna – tells WENN, “It’s really frightening. One can’t feel safe anywhere.”
