Kelly Clarkson is New York City taping The Kelly Clarkson Show premiere week. In between tapings, she took a minute to visit The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon to talk about The Voice season 21 and more.
Kelly shared that she met pop star Ariana Grande a few times before she joined The Voice panel this season. But Kelly didn’t discover Ariana’s sense of humor until she took her seat in the big red chair. “She’s so funny live!” Kelly gushed. “Very witty.”
The singer added that in the 8 seasons she’s been on The Voice, she’s never heard a coach talk about vocal health so much. “I guess we should have mentioned that!” Kelly laughed. “We’re all vocalists, and nobody ever mentioned it!”
“Everybody vibes so well,” Kelly said. “It’s good.”
Kelly also chatted about what the return of live audiences had been like. When the pandemic struck in March 2020, The Voice was forced to go fully virtual for the live shows. NBC taped the two cycles that followed with Zoom audiences.
Kelly noted that when Ariana was introduced to the live audience, the room erupted. “It’s literally like BTS had entered the building. They lose their minds!” Kelly said, “And then Blake [Shelton] has to follow it!”
Watch the segment below. It starts with Kelly mocking Jimmy’s truck, which is smaller than the one she drives! Her truck is bigger than Blake’s as well.

In an earlier segment, Kelly talks about her love of Topgolf, and dancing to store music at Lowes. Also, while her music may be on a bunch of workout playlists, it doesn’t motivate her to exercise.
“I feel like I always hear people talking about how my music is always on some Peloton playlist or some workout,” she said. “And I’m like, ‘It does not make me wanna work out. Why doesn’t it have the same effect? It doesn’t make me wanna run, but great for you.'”
