Keith Urban Extends 2013 Tour, Considering Returning For Another ‘Idol’ Season?

Keith Urban has extended his Light The Fuse tour with special guests Little Big Town and Dustin Lynch through the end of 2013, and he teased an upcoming album *and* the possibility of returning for another season of American Idol in an interview with USA Today’s Brian Mansfield.

In the interview, Keith, who says he has tracked 16 songs for his album and plans to record more, explained why he has been working on his new album for so long:

“It’s taking a long time, mostly because I’m working with people I’ve never worked with before,” he says. “Most of the length of time on this record has been, simply, people’s schedules, and not just my own. When you work with one producer, you can block out your time and your album’s finished. Working with various people, I’ve been at the mercy of [lining up] everybody else’s schedules and mine.”

The interview also raises the question of whether Keith might return for another season of American Idol:

A close study of Urban’s tour schedule reveals a couple weeks of open dates at the beginning of September and a couple more weeks in October, between the finish of the first leg and the start of the second. Might Urban need those weeks to judge a second season of American Idol auditions?

“We haven’t confirmed anything, but we needed to leave some holes there, in case another season happens,” he says. “If we do another season, those would be where the audition cities would go. But nothing’s confirmed at all.”
