Katy Perry Guest Hosts Ellen, Celebrates Birthday with Luke Bryan

Katy Perry celebrated her birthday by guest hosting the Ellen Degeneres Show, which aired on Monday (10/25). And it was an episode chock-full of American Idol goodness. Katy’s fellow American Idol judge, Luke Bryan, dropped by to chat. He brought her food from In-and-Out Burger as a gift. “Five years of Idol, I got your figured out,” Luke teased.

Luke revealed that he and Katy and the rest of the Idol family, including fellow judge Lionel Richie and host Ryan Seacrest had spent four days in Los Angeles filming the American Idol Judges Round. “We’re family-ish” Katy added.

The two talked fondly of their fellow judge. “Lionel is just the coolest guy,” says Luke. “He never has a bad day.” But, if Luke was stranded on an island and had to pick a partner, he would choose Katy over Lionel, because she’s a got a practical side that Lionel lacks. His joke is that he “only goes fishing for Guccis.”

They also laugh over how easy Luke is to prank, of which Katy takes complete advantage. And apparently Luke’s wife is the queen of pranks.

The two also promoted their respective residencies at Resorts World in Las Vegas.  Except that Katy has spent the last year planning her shows, while Luke? Uhm. Not so much. Carrie Underwood will also appear in a residency as well.

Katy’s show is called Play, while Luke jokingly calls his, “Try not to puke with Luke.” Vegas is a dream for the country singer, because he’s a huge Elvis Presley fan. He even does an impression.

The two finished the segment, trading gifts emblematic of their respective Vegas shows. Katy got Luke a quirky mushroom hat, while Luke gifted Katy with a beer hat.

Later in the show, American Idol 2018 alum Michael J. Woodward performed his new single “hope full,” that was released on Katy’s record label (Watch the performance HERE).

Katy, who gave birth to daughter Daisy last year, opened the show with a comedy monologue in which she shared how being a pop star is similar to being a mom. “You’re up all night, usually holding a bottle of some kind. There’s vomit on the floor. And your boobs are always out!” But moms are up all night for different reasons than popstar, Katy insists.

It’s a belief she illustrates in a re-written version of her hit song “Roar.”

And if the day for Katy wasn’t big enough, her Gap Christmas ad debuted! “From folding sweatshirts at the Santa Barbara Gap to 20 years later, starring in a Mark Romanek-directed holiday campaign dreams do come true! And @Gap is also helping to make dreams come true for @baby2baby,” Katy writes alongside the spot.

In it, Katy sings The Beatles’ “All You Need is Love.”
