Katy Perry’s time in Hawaii earlier this year shooting the American Idol showcase round inspired her latest song and music video “Harleys in Hawaii.” The pop star and Idol judge recently dropped the song accompanied by a lush, sexy music video.
The inspiration for the song came during downtime while shooting American Idol in the state earlier this year, Katy told the Zach Sang Show in July.
She and her fiancé, Orlando Bloom took a motorcycle ride. “We were in Hawaii [shooting American Idol] and we went and rented a Harley,” Katy said. “To be on the back of a motorcycle in Hawaii with the air blowing on your face is so beautiful. It was awesome. I can remember specifically where I was, the street corner I was on in Oahu, turning that corner and whispering to Orlando: ‘I’m going to write a song called ‘Harleys in Hawaii,’ and I did. It just dropped into my head.”
“Harleys in Hawaii” was co-written with Charlie Puth, Johan Carlson and Jacob Kasher Hundlin. Puth and Carlsson served as producers.
The song is the third in a trio of tunes Katy has recently dropped, including “Never Really Over” and “Small Talk.”
Currently, Katy and her fellow American Idol judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan are finishing up judges auditions across the country. They have already visited Savannah, Milwaukee and Washington DC, and will finish up in Los Angeles shortly.
