Kara Dioguardi and Jason Reeves sing ‘Terrified’ on Lopez Tonight – VIDEO

Kara Dioguardi and her co-writer Jason Reeves teamed up to sing their song “Terrified” on Lopez Live last night.

Top 10 contestant, Didi Benami had a moment with the song during Hollywood week, and Season 5 runner up, Katharine McPhee recorded the song for her latest album, Unbroken.

Didi’s version is my favorite, but Kara does a lovely job here.  Check it out after the jump.

Video after the JUMP…

  1. Wow! I’m really impressed. Kara has a gorgeous voice, I’d never heard her sing before.

  2. Never understood why someone who’s written a ton of hits and is a great singer herself…..never broke through as a performer…

    Kat’s version by a mile though…

  3. Seriously .. how hard would Kara hammer an AI contestant who did their performance with their eyes shut nearly the whole time?????????

Cuz she’s not that great a singer. She sings well, but she doesn’t have a distinctive tone quality (like Didi) and she isn’t an engaging singer with the audience (like Katharine and many others). She sang background vocals on a song she wrote that David Archuleta recorded, and she sounded good doing that–it’s a good, generic voice that mixes well with others and that’s it.

And her performance skills? She closed her eyes and swayed to her own music and barely looked at the audience or even her singing partner.

I like how Kara is wearing much more conservative clothes since her nude layout in Allure. A jacket and pants on late night? Not very glamorous. And the outfits she wore last week on AI? Last Tuesday’s dress looked like a bathrobe on her. Don’t get me wrong–I actually think she looks great here–the jacket is a great color for her and the ankle pants are a clean look. But on the first weeks of American Idol she must have been using double sided tape to keep her skimpy evening gowns on. I guess I’m grateful that she did the Allure picture because she’s way easier to look at now.

Yes. not engaging at all. And her swaying–weird. Like she’s in her own world . . . rejecting the live and tv audience.

BTW–what was that CD George is holding up at the beginning of the vid? Do these performers have a CD out?

  6. Kara has serious stage fright and tends to forget the words. That is likely why she’s keeping her eyes closed. This performance reminds me of a YouTube video I once knew.

  7. Kat, the over-rated everything, made the song non-emotional. Kara sings from way deep and makes you feel the song. Kat is a big nothing…

  8. Kara looks older in this clip dunno why. You can tell she is 40ish.
    She did a good job.

  9. This is a great song, but I prefer Didi’s take on it. Kara seems stiffer here, but her youtube version was fab.

  10. I think Kara’s got a great voice. I’ve heard the stories about her stage fright. I guess that’s why she chose to be a song-writer/AR rep. It’s nice to see she’s working on getting over that a little.

  11. It was good, but yeah that link by musikken was much better. I floved Didi’s version, but her’s is way better than Kat’s. Kat’s was… not special at all.
