The Voice Season 13 Contestant Spotlight Jon Mero
Watch a preview performance of “Versace on the Floor” by Bruno Mars from The Voice season 13 contestant, Jon Mero. It’s another four chair turn for the Des Moines, Iowa recording artist. “I did not want that to end,” said coach Jennifer Hudson after the performance, “I felt like I was at your concert.” Adam Levine compares him to Prince, “You have a tremendous, tremendous voice,” he says. “It would be an honor to work with you.” Blake Shelton is impressed to learn that Jon isn’t a trained dancer. “You are an incredible singer,” he says. Miley Cyrus promises the singer that she’s a “super dedicated coach.”
Watch the performance here.
Jon describes himself on his Instagram account as an entertainer and musician. Having already released his first single, a catchy pop tune called “Tell Me,” according to his Facebook Jon is currently signed with Vara Entertainment Group. Outside of singing, Jon enjoys to dance and occasionally posts videos of his moves on his social media. Grounded by his faith in God, Jon hopes that his run on The Voice will inspire other singers and hopefully give his career a boost.
Across social media, Jon has built his most prominent fanbase on Instagram. Amassing over four thousand followers on the site, he occasionally shares cover performance of his favorite songs.
Worth noting is a performance he shared of himself rehearsing with previous The Voice judge, Ceelo Green. It’s possible that connection helped him land a spot on the current season.
Jon is a soul singer with a strong and powerful voice. Of the small snippets of him singing that he’s shared on Instagram, many of them showcase him belting out impressive high notes. Jon also is quite skilled at piano playing, which could be a valuable asset in the competition.
Overall Thoughts: Though I think he has a solid voice, I feel like I’ve seen a hundred singers just like Jon in the past on these shows. Based off the little I’ve heard from him, he seems doomed to an early exit. My advice to Jon is to try and do something different that will make him stand out, because as of now he’s looking like easy fodder. I’m just not seeing many unique things about him. I would suggest he go for very stripped back performances that allow him to showcase the pretty aspects of his voice. Breaking out his piano skills would also be a smart move! Who knows, maybe he will end up surprising us this season.
