Jimmy Fallon got choked up as he announced the death of Robin Williams on the Tonight Show. He began his tribute with a spot on impression of the late comic. After, Jimmy threw to Robin’s first ever appearance on the Tonight show, back in the late 70s, with Johnny Carson. It’s hilarious.

Conan O’Brien, who broke the news of Robin’s death on his TBS show Monday night, said, “Robin Williams such a funny, fantastic guy. Everybody knows that side of him. What I think a lot of people don’t know—and you’re starting to hear all these stories coming out now—is how crazily generous [he was]. He was so generous,” said Conan. “Such a nice person.”

Conan proceeded to tell a crazy sweet story about Robin gifting him with a bicycle–just to cheer him up during a tough point in his career. It worked.

Seth Meyers of Late Night kept it brief. “I worked in a video store when I was growing up and I used to take out his stand-up albums all the time and he brought me a great amount of joy. As I got older, films like Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting seemed to…be exactly what I was feeling at those times,” he said. Seth hopes Robin’s death will help educate the public about depression.

  1. Watched all three tributes, and all of them were spot on. But Conan’s clips were my favorites, only because I remember first seeing Robin Williams as a talk show guest on the second to last Tonight Show with Conan.

  2. The tributes were touching. It was heartwarming to hear the bike story from Conan and the genuine emotional tremor in Jimmy’s voice made me teary. It seemed that Seth took the more stoic route to hold it together when speaking about Robin. All thoughtful in their own way.

  3. Was Craig Ferguson off as well? As some one who hosted Williams, and has been very public with his own addiction story, I would be interested to hear what he had to say.
I also would not be the least bit surprised if Ferguson also could speak personally about the depression battle as well.

  4. I appreciate these tributes. The bicycle story that Conan shared is especially nice. It’s consistent with reflections from other sources about Robin’s kind and generous heart: pretending to be a Russian doctor and making Christopher Reeve laugh for the first time after the accident, funding scholarships to Julliard, entertaining the troops, providing encouragement to particular individuals who were in pain and so on.

  5. Love Conan’s story about the bike and of course the clips. I remembered all of those clips. Especially that last one. That was the last week of Conan’s Tonight Show and they did not give a damn about what they were doing.

I want to see the bike. The way they described it — I want to see it.
