Jennifer Lopez Idol Deal Reportedly “Imminent”

I guess TMZ couldn’t let the Labor Day Weekend begin without throwing some Idol gossip out onto the internets?

Apparently, Fox is just about to close a deal with Jennifer Lopez to become Idol judge (Yawn).

Sources connected to the negotiations tell TMZ … contrary to some news reports … there has been no drama and no diva demands. As one source puts it, “It’s been typical negotiating.”

We’re told … absent a last-minute snag (which is highly unlikely) … the deal could be inked as early as next week.

“Idol” sources say producers believe Jennifer is the key to re-energizing the show.

Ugh. Now I’m going to have to sit on the internet and wait for the usual suspects to respond with their own “sources”.

Really, all the spoilers came early…and then it was regurgitation after regurgitation of the inevitable. The Idol judges WILL be Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. We’ve known this for awhile. All the other reports were just noise.

I cannot wait for the official announcements to be made. This sh*t is getting SO old.

  1. They should just shove all the names and focus on managers, record producers and independent singers – not A-list celebrities to make TMZ happy.

  2. Well i couldn’t be happier with Jennifer…

I guess i will be watching next season after all.

    Ha!

  3. JLo is key to energizing the show. Okay, that’s funny because my response to her being on Idol is ZZZZZzzzzzz.

  4. I don’t care who the judges are, just so they are knowledgeable, articulate, and don’t try to make the show about themselves. Let’s focus more on the contestants.

I am also get sick of all these tips and rumors. Get it over with all ready.

  5. Is it bad when it seems to me that the most relevant critiques from this judging panel would come from “yo yo yo dawg” Randy?

I just can’t see J-Lo really bringing anything relevant as a judge, and Tyler is obviously just there for the lulz, cause I don’t know what else he could honestly provide. If they don’t have a couple of absolutely amazing performers next year, as in 2 or 3 of the best they’ve ever had, this show is going to be a total joke, because the judges will make it into one. Only performers who can actually overcome that will save the show.

  6. Oh well if this is true about Jlo then it’s done. Nurse! we’re ready to pull the plug.

    LOLOLOLOLOL

  8. I’ve liked the idea of Jlo from the beginning. I think she is going to be a better judge than Ellen and Kara. She’s bright, funny, articulate, and honest. I think she has both empathy and experience in being a pop music star. I am not necessarily jazzed about this coming season, but I don’t see the doom and gloom others are seeing. All that is needed imho is to let the contestant be the star of the show, let us REALLY pick the winner, and we will have a decent season. Of course they will much up the works and do what they always do, Nigel or no Nigel…..

FWIW, I’ve gone back and watch clips of previous years, and I must say even though he is heavy on the dawgs, and the I’dunno’, for me, for you, etc, but Randy does actually give very good vocal critiques. He also is the first to have to actually verbalize an opinion, and I think he gets a bum rap. Glad he is gonna be back. I think the panel is going to be interesting, but I don’t think Steven Tyler is going to be a good judge. He might be funny, charismatic, or whatever, I just don’t see him judging this youngsters, but time will tell.

  9. Randy will be the steady, JLo will be the sweet, kind beautiful woman who occasionally throws out zingers and Steven Tyler will be such a hot mess that everyone will be talking about him and therefore the show, of course, which will cause people to watch.

    Is this what they’re thinking?

  10. I’m going to reserve judgment. I remember in Season 8 when Jamie Foxx was a mentor (obviously this is different from a judge, but still same line of thinking), everybody was all, “WTF, what does Jamie Foxx have to bring to the table?” and he was, in many people’s opinion, a wonderful mentor, thoughtful and supportive and critical when he needed to be. Maybe Tyler and Lopez will surprise us with what they have to bring to the judge’s table.

  11. Maybe Tyler and Lopez will surprise us with what they have to bring to the judge’s table.

But surprise us which way? Maybe they will be even worse than we think they will be.

  12. I actually think JLO is the best option right now for the show. She has a sweet personality and she might bring what Paula had on the show. I liked her as a mentor back on season 6.
The Randy, Jlo and Steven Tyler combo might just be very interesting to watch. JMHO.
I am liking it. I just hope it all works out for the sake of the show and they find great talent this year.

Hope JLo really is a done deal.

  13. I was unhappy with the JLO rumor when her name first came up as a judge. Then I started hearing about Mariah Carey instead. JLO all of the sudden started sounding pretty good.
Whatever. Just make it about the contestants, please.

  14. I was unhappy with the JLO rumor when her name first came up as a judge. Then I started hearing about Mariah Carey instead. JLO all of the sudden started sounding pretty good.

Pretty much how I feel, haha. Well, I wasn’t unhappy so much as ambivalent about JLo but I think she’ll be a better judge than Mariah Carey and definitely became a better option when Mariah’s name started to come up.

I still think Shania Twain should have been choice #1 but that ship has sailed. Sigh.

So now we know that the early rumors were true: Steven Tyler, JLo and Randy. The rest seemed to be spin to drum up buzz. I mean did anyone really believe that Randy wouldn’t be back?

I’ve gone back and watch clips of previous years, and I must say even though he is heavy on the dawgs, and the I’dunno’, for me, for you, etc, but Randy does actually give very good vocal critiques. FWIW, I agree with you. Randy’s schtick is old and stale but he can give meaningful critiques more often than Simon, at least early in the season. As the season progresses Randy’s critiques get progressively lazier. But I wonder how much of that is about the dynamics of that judging panel. It wouldn’t surprise me if Randy functions as the “company man” whose comments are meant to help or stall certain contestants later in the game. It seems that once the judges settle on an Idol to pimp he goes into autopilot and ramps up the usual routine.

  15. She wouldn’t be my first choice but I guess I can live with her as a judge especially over Mariah Carey. Randy is okay also but it’s ST that makes me wonder if I can stand watching the show. I don’t think he adds anything to the show and if fact will detract even more from the idols than before. Maybe that’s what they want. Strange.

  16. JLo is key to energizing the show. Okay, that’s funny because my response to her being on Idol is ZZZZZzzzzzz.

Ditto. Who needs Ambien with JLo around?
