Lee’s post-Idol debut is set to hit stores on November  16.

The video posted after the jump follows Lee as he poses for shots by  Los Angeles photographer Jiro Schneider.   The shoot took place when the kids hit the West Coast on the recent American Idol tour.

The boy cleans up nice! “When do we do the nude shoot?” quips Lee. Ha!

  1. Looks like another budget AI photo shoot. LOL

on another thought… why can’t guys (in general) shave these days. ;)

  2. So . . . it’s going to look like all the other male winner’s album covers then?

I also predict a self titled album.

  3. I agree tigervixxxen, Lee’s a regular guy, his album cover should reflect that. I’m very excited about the footage from Lee’s album cover shoot. Makes me even more excited for his album! Nov 16th can’t get here soon enough. :)

  4. I suspect the look is what he would have chosen for himself, and I’m glad it’s within character!

Can anyone make out the song he’s playing and singing – maybe it’s new? Can’t wait until the single – this month I hope!

Great about Arlington Park, not expecting the original numbers of course but its great to complete the circle! I wonder if he’ll now be able to play his pre-idol music – he seemed to have been restricted from that while on the tour.

  5. The shoot looks great to me, sort of rugged and gritty. I would hate to see Lee all glitzed-up! Yes, he really does clean up nice!
Budget shoot? I’d like to have even half of what that shoot cost!

damn.. I didn’t even think that far. Definitely self titled.. why break the tradition?

  7. why is Lee not selling paint in this photoshoot? that would really reflect who he is, wouldn’t it, Idol?

also, after all of this time, I still can’t decide if Lee is attractive or not. oh well…first single should be something to look forward to.

  8. Lee, the nude shoot will take place shortly after your album tanks. It’ll be a nice way to use up the last of your 15 minutes. Ha!

  9. Come on Nov. 16th! I am pretty excited for Lee and his new music. Is Lee the next Kelly or Carrie or Daughtry? Maybe not but I sure am rooting for him! The shoot location looks perfect and Lee too.

  10. Just as long as Lee’s not the next Kris Allen. ;)

And if he’s ever invited to perform on the AMA’s, I think we can be sure he will behave himself…hee hee.

  11. I agree: no glitz. That would just be wrong.

I like it. Even tho the pic at top is dark, you can still see those blue eyes. How does he do that? Must be the Irish coming through.

(I’m with you, tigervixxxen. Kris’s album cover is my favorite ever.)

imkhemari, he sure wasn’t stopped from playing originals at his last trip to Arlington. Maybe there’ll be some repeats. (And wouldn’t that be a fine date to debut a new single?)

  12. The Daily Herald talks a little more about the Arlington concert http://bit.ly/9vOxXR – he “will perform for at least 45 minutes”.

And it would be a good opportunity for a single debut! (Maybe followed soon by a music video to add to this one?)

  13. Our group may be small, but we’re pretty determined. :) We’re also, for the most part, pretty polite. That makes me proud. I think I’ve seen less bashing of other contestants from Lee fans than from just about anybody.

It’s probably partly because most of us are devoted to at least one other Niner, and often more than one. I guess that’s the silver lining of a quiet season: it’s easy to love the whole bunch.

  14. I think we should start a betting pool for Lee’s first week sales. I hope his album cover is good. I didn’t like Kris’s.

  15. wjmtv:

(I’m with you, tigervixxxen. Kris’s album cover is my favorite ever.)

Really? I love Kris, his music and went to see him in Orlando a couple of weeks ago heck, I bought 3 of his cds and downloaded it from i tunes when it came out but the cd cover I did not like. I didn’t think they capitalized on Kris’ good looks and it was too dark. I hope Lee’s is lighter and more eye catching than that.

  16. AIaddict:

wjmtv. are you going to see Lee again at Arlington?

As I just wrote in the headlines thread, I work about 3 minutes from Arlington Park and finish at 4pm. I’d say that’s a pretty safe bet. :)

  17. Lee-Cook fans are even rarer here, ha.

Thanks for the article about the new AP concert. I can’t imagine Lee would do much material from the new record but a single isn’t a bad guess. So maybe he’ll do a bunch of pre Idol songs? Anything is exciting though!

  18. wjmtv:
As I just wrote in the headlines thread, I work about 3 minutes from Arlington Park and finish at 4pm. I’d say that’s a pretty safe bet.

Yeah, sorry I just saw that in the headline thread. Glad you are going though so we can get another great recap from you!

  19. I think Lee looks great! He has beautiful hair and gorgeous eyes and the stylist didn’t make it look goofy like it was the other day when it was sticking straight up in the air and shaped into a point. I don’t want him to start looking like one of the Jersey Shore boys.

This is the perfect setting. It’s got his signature all over it. He looks relaxed and comfortable, very important things when shooting a cover.

I’m sure his album will be self-titled. I would love for his band to be called the Lee Dewyze Band, the same as his pre-idol band.

Can anyone make out the song he’s playing and singing – maybe it’s new?

I listened to it several times and it does not sound familiar. So maybe it is a snippet of a new song!

  20. I’m a Lee-Cook-Adam fan. I’ve watched AI from the beginning, but have enjoyed these last three seasons the most.
This looks like a great location for an album shoot. I’m really looking forward to new original music from Lee.

  21. Lee looks so good. I like the shots where he was sitting down in a relax pose the best. Yeah no glitz. So far,all the photos on the other idol album covers always look weird to me. Kris’s the best. Hope they keep it natural.

wjmtv, I’m so excited for you. Your recaps are the best.

  22. Hey, I keep trying to hear that intriguing snippet of song in the last few seconds of the video, I’m catching the phrase “?from? my door” along with some interesting guitar?

Guess we’ll have to wait and see if it belongs to the single!

  23. And wjmtv so glad you get this chance to go again to Arlington. One of your snazzy recaps would be wonderful!

  24. LOL! I’m sure I’ll have something to blather about. I seem to find a way to do that. :)

Finally got to watch the video. The song taste sounds interesting–if it’s something new, I’m excited. It sounds a lot like Slumberland, and I had moments where I was afraid they might try to remold him too much.

I love love love the last few seconds. There’s something about a guy and a guitar leaning up against a wall that just gets me. I’ve seen it a hundred times, and it’s always good.

  25. Lee looks amazing as usual and his album will be great. It’s too bad that the one who wins always gets continuely bashed, but there are tons of Lee fans and I am willing to bet that AP will be sold out..Chicago was the biggest crowd that the idols played too.
Lee’s voice is unique and I think he will be making great music for us for years to come.
Way to go Lee! Can’t wait for the new album!

  26. from my door

is what it sounds like to me too, the song snippet at the end. We know what song that is he’s playing at the beginning of the video, So What Now?

  27. AIaddict:

    from my door

I just listened to it as back-to-back as I could with SWN, and I don’t think it’s the same song. Similar, though.

You know what I wonder? I wonder why he doesn’t show off his guitar chops more. He’s actually a pretty good guitarist.

Sure sounds bluesy on that “from my door” business. Man. Is a raunchy album too much to hope for?

    popeye:

Chicago was the biggest crowd that the idols played too.

I was there and I can totally believe that, but I’d love to have independent proof. Did you hear that from a reliable source?

  28. Lee looks really good in those, dang those blue eyes melt my heart and then he sings and melts the rest of me;)
I wish I could be there with you at arlington wjmtv!! Look forward to a recap!

  29. A couple of speculations:
I’d assume they shot the cover for the single as well as the album. It’ll be interesting to see which shots go to which cover but somehow that last shot and the accompanying music do seem to go well together? Mmm…

Also the background music here is all acoustic – and all Lee – it gives a relaxed, low-key flavor and atmosphere to the video. Hopefully this is a very good sign for how Lee is being presented, and for what his album may be like.

ETA wjmtv I thought the guitar was pretty good – and I too hope for some bluesy sound – and raunchy would be good too!

  30. The singing that I heard Lee doing in the background sounded very bluesy to me too. That was the first thing I noticed about it.

I think Lee sounds great when he sings bluesy, so no complaints from me. :)

  31. He’s actually a pretty good guitarist.

Yes he is. I was really impressed when I saw the video of him at his homecoming playing especially the guitar work on So What Now.

and raunchy would be good too!

I’ve never thought of Lee as being raunchy, LOL! how do you mean?

  32. Not liking the direction this thread is taking, and I’m not helping…I apologize.

Will be editing to get the thread back on track.

The subject is Lee and his album photo shoot. Not this blog, not who hangs out where and why.

  33. AIaddict:

I’ve never thought of Lee as being raunchy, LOL! how do you mean?

It’s kind of hard to explain what I meant, that’s why I said “raunchy!”

I don’t mean dirty-nasty in any way—let me clarify that right off the bat. More than anything, I mean gritty, which is something we all seem to agree is a quality Lee possesses, and we like it a lot. But I’m talkin’ *really* gritty. Like, “sit out on the front porch of the shotgun shack on a July night with something clear in a canning jar and the fireflies winking” kind of gritty. Growly too. Know what I mean? If not, I’ll have to work on this some more. ;)

    imkhemari, help me out here!

MJ, you make it easy to be a fan of any idol. Thank you for a great summer.

  34. But I’m talkin’ *really* gritty. Like, “sit out on the front porch of the shotgun shack on a July night with something clear in a canning jar and the fireflies winking” kind of gritty. Growly too.

Are you sayin keep the folk rock sound but kick it up a few notches?

  35. I first used “raunchier” wrt Lee in an earlier thread and it seems to have morphed into “raunchy” in this one!

I agree with wjmtv – I don’t mean the far reaches of low-down dirty – but I think for me raunchi-er just means less restrained, less sanitised, more uninhibited, perhaps more raw and more real? I’m not even sure that it’s a particular sound or genre, more an attitude that informs writing, playing and singing.

My impression has been that up til now Lee has been quite restrained on the AI show and tour. He seems to have a very well developed sense of appropriate behavior – eg he’s described certain behaviors as not appropriate at a family show – but there have been glimpses in the last week or so of a less inhibited Lee eg the “nude shoot’ comment isn’t one he would have made publicly a few weeks back.

Small things like that make me hope for an album that will surprise and delight – and it also makes me hopeful for his development as an artist over the years.

ETA I’m starting to be very impressed with the “marketing” of Lee in the video clip – as an overall package there’s a lot of subtle nudges and shifts in image. Very clever!

  36. I like the idea of raunchy, I can see what you guys mean. I’m usually not a big fan of bluesy or folk music but with Lee’s voice and style it really works for me, so more of that please.

I was also thinking the little guitar part in the middle of the video sounded like So What Now from Lee’s homecoming but I definitely do not recognize the ending part.

And finally, I too have liked the marketing thus far. I also anticipate there will be focus on Lee’s singer-songwriter side.

  37. The setting of the video shoot is soooo very Lee ( plain and simple).
    Kid looks good!!!

  38. In the few seconds before “from my door,” there’s the phrase “and I’m falling through…” but I can’t make out the words after. It’s got to be a new song.

In the interview below, Lee describes his vibe: “And what is your vibe? It’s like folk-rock/pop. Acoustic guitars, big choruses, hard vocals. If I had to throw some artists out there, it’d be, like, James Morrison meets Kings of Leon meets Jason Mraz. Rock vocals with light instrumentals.

    http://chicago.timeout.com/articles/music/88436/lee-dewyze-interview

That description of his sound describes raunchy to me.

  39. he’s lookin good..as usual. love his eyes and smile :) Srsly cant wait for his album!! wjmtv, youre so lucky u get to see him play at Arlington again!

  40. I like it, it’s pretty much Lee ‘au naturel’, not airbrushed, prettified, or with an expression that’s not him.
Hoping that it is an indication the single will be the real Lee as well.

  41. I haven’t been able to see video yet ( on itouch right now) but the photos I’ve seen look great. Love the black on black, the way his hair looks, etc. Lee once said something to the effect that it doesn’t take a long time to do something when you know something’s right. He has seemed very excited about this album and how it is turning out. The single is usually released before the album so Sept 24 seems like a good time to showcase that, I hope I hope!! Can’t wait to see Lee’s picture sitting in it’s own spot in the music racks! Dumb question alert… Does Lee have a band yet? Will they be at Arlington? When Lee tours after his album release will he be opening for others or headlining? Am new to being a fan (to this extent) so I’m not sure. Also, when do we get to know his co-writers?

  42. imkhemari: I think for me raunchi-er just means less restrained, less sanitised, more uninhibited, perhaps more raw and more real?

    Yeah yeah yeah. That.

And from the man himself (via dlynne), “hard vocals.”

aprilfoolish: Dumb question alert… Does Lee have a band yet? Will they be at Arlington? When Lee tours after his album release will he be opening for others or headlining? Am new to being a fan (to this extent) so I’m not sure. Also, when do we get to know his co-writers?

Those questions are not dumb, but right now they *are* all without answers. :) He’s not letting out a lot of detail about the album or his future plans, and I’ve long suspected that’s at least in part because he likes to hold back a surprise or two.

My wild-ass guess is that he could follow a trajectory similar to Kris (combo of headliners and openers) because that seems to have worked well for him. It makes sense to me, although I know next-to-nothing about the biz (but everything I do know, I’ve learned here).

  43. I love the simplistic effect of the photo shoot. Lee is lookin’ good!

  44. imkhemari: I think for me raunchi-er just means less restrained, less sanitised, more uninhibited, perhaps more raw and more real?

    Yeah yeah yeah. That.

And from the man himself (via dlynne), “hard vocals.”

Ok, got it, thanks and I’m on board with that too.

  45. Those are good questions aprilfoolish, we can only speculate on them. I can’t imagine a band would be ready by the Arlington Park concert but like wjmtv said he would have one by the time he is ready to tour. A mix of opening and headlining would probably be good for Lee too. We will know more about people Lee has worked with when they release more details about the album, maybe with the single announcement they will have a lot more specifics then. And if not then surely when they release the album track listing there will be information on who wrote on each song.

  46. I think Lee looks great in this photo shoot and his hair has never looked better. The photos don’t look fake or airbrushed, Lee is looking like himself.

I also thought the snippets of the guitar and him singing sounded very bluesy. It seems that RCA and 19 are marketing him as a folksy bluesy singer-songwriter and allowing him a lot of artistic freedom. They aren’t trying to force him into a mold that isn’t him, as they’ve done with too many other idols. I wonder if the snippet we heard might be from his first single.

How did this year fly by so fast anyway?

  47. I’m with aprilfoolish. I’m totally a newbie in following an idol.
Though I’ve watched AI on and off ( voted for only 2 idols in the past- and only in the finale), this is the very first time I am heavily invested in following one.
Lee got me hooked during hollywood week and since then I got every music of his and has been playing it daily and never get tired of it.
I am so looking forward to his album – add it to my now Lee music library.

As far as the video shoot, I really liked the shots from 0.51-0.49 (Lee on that white rustic room) or the one from 0.03 (white backdrop of only Lee and his guitar)……I thought those shots are so him. Almost kinda have his So I’m Told album cover feel to it. For lack of a better word, those shots gives that mysterious / haunting feeling.
p.s. of course it won’t hurt to include his photo shot above in the cd as a bonus.

  48. Same with me. This is the first time I have ever been this interested in the future of an idol. I did not watch AI until the last five or six shows with David Cook. I was actually shocked by the caliber of the performances of Michael Johns and David Cook! They got me hooked! I loved, loved, loved Adam Lambert, but looking back, I wonder if the show’s concept is better represented by someone like DC or Lee. Adam has an amazing voice and really knows how to perform, but from the very beginning it was obvious that he was a well-trained and consummate performer. He performed on a professional level from day one and there was no growth necessary. You knew right from the start what he was capable of. I really wanted Adam to win, but maybe he didn’t need to.
So this year, I LOVED seeing the growth shown by Lee, it won me over completely!
I never really liked Kara too much, but when she said that Lee was what the show was all about, I think she was so right.
Sorry if this seemed off-topic, but I was trying to make the point that this photo shoot and the impending CD are a perfect ending to a great season, and hopefully, the beginning of a long and wonderful career for this beautiful (inside and out) young man!

  49. Took me until after the concert to finally get Lee. Aside from Treat Her Like A Lady and Hallelujah, maybe The Boxer, I was just not a fan of any of his performances, but his studio versions were pretty fantastic. I originally had him pegged as the worst LIVE winner until the concert. He improved a billionfold (according to spellcheck, that’s not a word :P) since the show. I still have my favorites this season, but Lee went from bottom tier of winners to 4th place. 4th isn’t too great with only 9 people, but considering who’s around him, he’s in good company (I like Kris, Kelly, and maybe David Cook more, but Carrie a little less, and they’re all fantastic). And you know me (anniem47 put it well), I like a good growth story, so a story of a winner going from 9th place to 4th or 3rd is pretty excellent.

My favorite was the one of him sitting in the corner. I thought it was quite Lee and nice.

I got a good laugh out of the nudity part. XD.

I’ll be buying his album :D.

  50. I have a feeling there’s some screenshots from the video that will go in some people’s personal collections. Lol. And I gotta say, I’m disappointed that he’s wearing those jackets for all the pictures. Why can’t there be a little bit of tattoo action for the ladies 18 and over? Sheesh :)

  51. That’s a nice little video. Lee looks cute and the ‘naked’ comment made me smile. I like his sense of humor.

  52. haha…Lee, loved the “when do we do the nude shoot?” comment. You put a smile on my face :)

  53. Lee, the nude shoot will take place shortly after your album tanks. It’ll be a nice way to use up the last of your 15 minutes. Ha!

    LOL Too true. :-)

  54. cristististi, he does seem to love his jackets. I’m still boggled by the hoodie in 90 degree heat. His core body temp must be about 82F. [Cue myriad offers to help him with that]

PS Cookie’s album came out on Nov 18, and “Light On” debuted on Sept 23. Just thought I’d mention that. :D

  55. The video is just a peek into the photo shoot, right? So maybe they did get pics of Lee with no jacket showing off those nice arms, tattoos and all.

  56. In the intro and a few shots of him on guitar in the middle of the vid he’s at least stripped to a T shirt. I wonder if he had to layer up for the main shoot as the album comes out late autumn! (Just guessing as I, too, am totally new to the process of following an idol!)

Mmm … wouldn’t Arlington be a great time to sell CDs of the single, or is it usually just a digital download?

And it looks like Andrew will be there, he tweets
Just booked my flight to Chicago :)
about 7 hours ago via Echofon

There also seems to be a buzz on twitter of fans flying in, I hope the sales go well!

  57. wjmtv, you’re right. Lee does love his jackets ( I just reviewed all his AI performances beginning from the top 10 and 7 out of 10 times he is wearing one- jacket or sports coat).
Or could it be that 19 wanted to hide his tattoos?!
Liked him just n the plain black t-shirt on the video shoot though.

Since I am new with this, can anyone please let me know if all the past idol winners releases a single before an album?

  58. I am just ROFL with the speculation about Lee’s album. However, I met Lee and I think “gritty” “raunchiness” “crunchy” is definitely a way to describe him. He loves to camp, and fish, I can imagine him going for a couple of days w/o showering…he is very very natural with his style and persona musically and otherwise. Not that he is into weirdness or that he is as I like to call it “granola” man, it’s just that its hard to imagine him as being completely “Hollywood or Glitzy” in terms of his persona or music. He has always said, bluesy, folksy, pop rock is the feel he is going for with his album. I think that is a new sound-not ANYTHING like Kris Allen or David Cook, totally different. I am not a betting woman, but in this case, I think we are all gonna be very surprised with the CD. It’s an exciting time. The good news is I only saw one or two negative comments posted here out of 62, which IMO means that Lee has a pretty loyal following. Hope that translates to CD sells. Very sexy pictures of Lee taken for his album cover, and NO picture does them “baby blues” justice. You have to see them close…

  59. Rivermaya: Since I am new with this, can anyone please let me know if all the past idol winners releases a single before an album?

wjmtv: Cookie’s album came out on Nov 18, and “Light On” debuted on Sept 23.

Rivermaya, being new myself this year I asked the same question a few days ago, and was told that the standard ploy is for albums to have singles released beforehand to raise interest – for pop about 3 weeks ahead and for others 6-8 weeks. I’m not sure of the exact dates but last year Kris Allen’s single came the day after tour ended (ie late Sept as tour finished later) and his album came out mid November. Adam’s single was much closer to the album release (in November also? Don’t know the exact dates – can anyone else help?)

I’m thinking that besides the sound there may also be some surprises about co-writers – they’ve been so close-mouthed it’s frustrating! Lee has said that he’s worked with some amazing people, “artists” he admires. Perhaps someone who doesn’t usually work with AI? – but I’m just guessing, it could be anything!

Anyway the way he’s being presented looks promising for the album!

  60. Does anybody look at some of his pics and think he has a bit of a “Billy Joel” look going on, like from the late 70’s early 80’s not from now, maybe its the facial expressions… I was looking at him and thinking he reminds me of someone. Also, peeps keep asking “why the hoodie” and Lee has repeatedly just shrugged and said, “I don’t know”. I think it is kind of like Linus’s blanket from Snoopy, you know he feels more comfortable with the blanket when he plays the piano, right? I think it may be the same thing for Lee when out in public. Either way, he looks cute in his beanie and hoodie:)

  61. Loved how his sense of humor came through in this photo shoot. The music in the background sounded great. I wonder if a single would be ready by the 24th?

  62. I think you’re on the right track about the security blanket. That, plus the fact that hoodies are just awesome. I do, however, find it amusing that with his great hair, he wears the beanie so much. I’ve heard more than one fan say that Kris and DC are probably green with envy (although I have to admit, I don’t know where the Kris talk comes from. I guess when I see pix of him, I’m not looking at his hair…..)

Billy Joel? Does that mean we’re finally going to get some piano from Mr. D? ;)

  63. Imkhemari, thanks for the heads up on the single. Yikes, I bought both D.Cook and Adam’s cd and didn’t even realize there was ever singles releases before the album.
Glad I found MJ’s site – kept me abreast with most current updates specially on Lee. I am sure I won’t miss getting his single once it’s out.
Also, as a first time blogger, I am enjoying all these sharing of thoughts/ideas/etc……you guys made it so much fun :)

  64. I’ve heard more than one fan say that Kris and DC are probably green with envy (although I have to admit, I don’t know where the Kris talk comes from. I guess when I see pix of him, I’m not looking at his hair…..)

wjmtv I think the Kris talk has to do with people saying his hair is thinning.

The hoodie thing is funny to me because when he was out at the barricades in Tulsa a guy asked him how he was liking Tulsa and Lee said he loved it and he loved the weather because he likes the heat. But maybe the security blanket theories are correct. I’ve seen youtube videos of him performing in a bar before Idol and he is wearing a hoodie pulled up over his head.

  65. Very few songs get printed into physical singles now. I’ve only seen a couple in the last few years. So all singles are digital now.

Most artists release a single before the album. When I met Lee he told me the single was coming out soon and he knew the name of it. He couldn’t say more than that but I think it is safe to say a single is in the works!

I’ve always thought the hoodie and beanie thing is Lee’s sense of style. Boys care about looking good too…lol Probably why he likes his jackets too. I really like that Lee has his own “look”. Works for me.

  66. brook52, did you see my post from last night at 9:26? :)

I think everyone in Chicago loves the heat. When you live in a place where it’s winter 8 months out of the year, you’re going to scramble for every bit of warmth you can get.

Batgirl, Did you ever see the article where the bartender called him “Hoodie Guy?”

  67. Sorry I couldn’t get it to work in one click ( but you can cut and paste though) but I believe this is the same article that wjmtv was referring to -” When Lee DeWyze was “Hoodie Guy” at Potato Creek Johnny”.

  68. He has always said, bluesy, folksy, pop rock is the feel he is going for with his album. I think that is a new sound-not ANYTHING like Kris Allen or David Cook,

I totally agree with this. They may all be WGWG but all three have their own sound.

rivermaya yep, he’s been hoodie guy for quite a long time it seems and the hoodie does seem to be his security blanket.

I see the Billy Joel in him a bit. Some of his pics remind me of a young Sylvester Stallone/Rocky Balboa-The Boxer, pun intended. Ha! but Lee does look like him to me at times. Can’t wait for the cd and to see what pics are used from the shoot.

  69. All this talk of who he looks like is funny because, to me, he’s always been a dead ringer for BJ Novak of “The Office” (not in photos–you have to see him talking), right down to the eye color.

I just went to check on tix for Arlington. Several sections (including the hoity-toity boxes where you get champagne) are sold out. I’m trying to decide where I want to go: stand and get closer, or sit and enjoy the vista. Decisions, decisions…..

My vote for the CD is the one jammasta mentioned. That’s a very nice picture.

  70. I’m trying to decide where I want to go: stand and get closer, or sit and enjoy the vista. Decisions, decisions…..

I vote for standing close, but then again I don’t mind being squished by a bunch of young screechy girls. Seeing him perform up close would totally be worth it! Either way I hope you have an awesome time! :)

Oh and idk if all the Lee fans here follow him on twitter (you never know!) but he’s trying to get fans to donate to Feeding America. It’s a good cause, I hope more people find out about it.

  71. There’s 56 screen caps of the photo shoot up at http://lee-dewyze.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=227. Looking at those will keep me busy for a while. I really like the shots near the windows – that play of light and shade and just a bit of mystery – but the poses remind me of Kris Allen’s atmospheric cover and that’s not such a good idea.

… and to go back to the layers I notice that the full quote for the “nude shoot” is – “when do we do the nude shoot … cos … it’s hot” – and it was only a day or so later that he was taken to hospital. Feeling hot in more ways than one?

  72. Thanks for the link to “Hoodie Guy”! I missed that one. I love the end when they they say they don’t think he’s coming back to play.

The screencaps of the photo shoot are good too. I like the ones by the windows, also. I think my favorite is the one of him standing by the wall looking down at his guitar. But it wouldn’t show his face…and we need to see his face!

  73. Ooh, nice screen shots! I like #28 cuz his Chicago flag is showing, but I think my fave is #32, standing by the windows. That one says “Lee” to me.

  74. I have a question for those more knowledgeable about the album release process – I’ve still to pre-order for Lee’s album, and thought to join in with this “Album Spike” Sept 16 push that I see on the fan websites.

But then, do pre-ordered albums count towards that first week sales figures when the album is actually released? There seems to be a lot of importance placed on those first week figures in comparing artists, both on and off AI, and I’d like to feel I was contributing to that as well!

Somewhere I recollect someone on MJ’s blog explaining how it’s possible to do both – does anyone know?

ETA: I may ask on the numbers thread if people here don’t know (or don’t see it due to the whole post now disappearing off the main list!)

ETA2: wjmtv – yes I like that one too – the sense of longing – kind of goes with The Boxer, Rocketman, Use Somebody … in fact all his song choices! … and its also different to Kris’ cover!

  75. I think I heard not too long ago that pre-orders count in the first week. However…

I’m not buying anything until I know what’s on the Walmart release. If I had missed out on Cookie’s “Breathe Tonight,” man, that would have been tragic.

inkhemari: wjmtv – yes I like that one too – the sense of longing – kind of goes with The Boxer, Rocketman, Use Somebody … in fact all his song choices! … and its also different to Kris’ cover!

And we know how important that is! ;)

  76. I’d like to know the answer to that question, too. I want his first week sales to be as high as possible so I have been holding off. The spike sounds fun, though. I would also really like to see his album at #1 on itunes and I don’t know whether those pre-order numbers have already been counted or whether they will add on the day it drops. Anyone know?

  77. My very hazy recollection of the post I saw was that pre-orders counted when they were made, not at the drop, also there was that disadvantage of not knowing what was included. So to get the best of both worlds the technique was to pre-order, then withdraw when you were asked by email if your order still stood, then buy when it comes out and you know what has what bonus tracks.

But its a very, very hazy recollection and I’d like it confirmed.

I’ll also going to have some difficulty with being in NZ – the album is turning up on itunes as available here, but I’ve had trouble with Amazon downloads. And unless the physical CD is sold in NZ I’ll have to wangle it being sent from the US – Amazon won’t send CD’s to NZ last time I checked. It may also be a different version with different bonus tracks! I may have to call in some favors!

  78. I asked the question on the numbers thread for today. Hopefully, we’ll get an answer. If not, I’ll try on tomorrow’s thread.

  79. Yes, I am positive preorders will count in first week sales numbers so there is no harm in preodering at all. But like wjmtv said that right now we don’t know what sort of bonus or deluxe versions there are going to be. Both Kris and David Cook had a Wal-mart bonus edition with one extra song and the itunes preorder came with an extra song. Even though the pre order extra song isn’t listed now I imagine it would get added when the track list is revealed. Digital deluxe albums that are a couple dollars more and have about 5 extra songs seem to be much more prevalent now than they used to be so there may be yet another version of Lee’s record. Amazon will never have a bonus song but itunes always does. But the bottom line is there is no harm in preordering and you can always cancel and switch to another version of the record at a later date before the order goes through. Or it never hurts to have an extra copy laying around for gifts or for the car ;)

I like chatting on these Lee centric threads, I’ll keep checking if you guy keep chatting here!

  80. I am new to this too and so good to know about the different versions that will be available- sounds like I’ll probably being ordering a couple of different times- so I’ll have gifts and be able to listen at home, car and …work… and walking the dog.

  81. Brook52 LOL! That’s what I do. I buy mine the first week it drops, or in Lee’s case I will be buying the first day it drops. I’ll get the I- tunes version, Amazon too if there’s a different bonus track and a few of the cds to give as gifts. Lee is definitely a gift and won’t hurt to spread the goodness around. I did this for Cookie and kris too.

Why September 16th? What is that push all about? I saw that on twitter but not sure why that date was chosen. I think I have heard that pre orders DO NOT count towards first weeks sales.

Gotta go look at those screen caps.

OK I like the lighter background pics the best – #15, #24 with his guitar, #31 where he’s looking out the window #52- lovin the boots and #55 him smiling

  82. I was thinking of contributing to Operation Spike. But yeah why Sep 16? Does ‘Export’ sales count in the first week of sales? Would like to know the answers to all the questions asked as well.

  83. Imkhemari:

I may have to call in some favors!

Say the word, dearie. My best friend lives in Reykjavik. I’m a whiz with overseas mailing and customs declarations. :)

  84. So my favorites are #15, #54 and #56-Just like the composition of the last one.

  85. I promise pre orders count. Soundscan would not cheat these artists of a good chunk of their sales. And every sale is important to get to that gold or platinum status. I’ve been following the numbers very closely for David Cook a long time. :)

As far as export sales I’m not as positive so I’ll have to ask around. But any album sold outside the US would be credited to the particular country you purchased it in. What I’m not so sure about is if you bought the record from a US store and had it shipped to you from the US seller if that then counts as a US sale. Or just have a US fan buy the album and send it to you.

The Lee fan groups just chose Sept 16th because it is 2 months before his record is released and they wanted to do something to show support. So it is an arbitrary date for the most part.

  86. imkhemari:I may have to call in some favors!
    wjmtv: Say the word, dearie.

And if something different turns up in NZ maybe I can return the favor!

There’s a poster about the Album Spike http://lee-dewyze.com/images/main/opperationalbumspike.jpg. I gather Lee was consulted about the date so hopefully it won’t conflict with anything.

It’d be good to help, but I’m sure the “spike” when the single comes out will be even bigger!

  87. tigervixxxen:

I like chatting on these Lee centric threads, I’ll keep checking if you guy keep chatting here!

It is rather cozy in here, isn’t it? :)

brook52, yeah, as I said waaay upthread, there’s just something about #56….

ETA: imkhemari, Russell Crowe would be great.

  88. Tigervixxxen, thanks for the clarification. I think I’ll just pre order it and hope that the sale count in US. Checking out the screen caps now. They are fantastic.

  89. Thank you, Tigervixxxen! I knew that they count in the overall sales number but I wasn’t sure whether it would count in the first week of sales or if it had already been counted in a previous week. The credit cards aren’t charged until the record drops so I guess technically the sale doesn’t occur until the day the record drops. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that earlier.

I think I’ll pre-order on the spike date and then I’ll buy whatever turns up at Wal-Mart in CD form and for gifts. If there’s an extra song somewhere I know that I will want it, too. So there’s no reason to delay ordering the digital version.

Am I looking at the same photos as everyone else? The numbers under the screencaps keep changing because it’s keeping track of the number of views for each photo. Are you just counting until you get to your favorite?

  90. Sorry wjmtv the Aussies have already claimed him!

Eta: Dlynne, if you click on a thumbnail it takes you to a slideshow and the file numbers are at the top. If you click on that image it gives you the large version (and the logo no longer obscures the image).

I’m sure the shoot has many images we haven’t seen – in fact #36 shows them looking at a screen which seems to have Lee photographed from the other side of a window – looks good to me!

  91. Yeah, I’m gonna guess one of the pics we haven’t seen is the one that actually ends up on the cover.

  92. Thank you! I see what you mean about #36. I think #51 and #52 are my favorites.

Dang, I can hardly wait until November 16! Of course, maybe we’ll get a look sooner especially if that single is released in the next few weeks.

  93. tigervixxen : I like chatting on these Lee centric threads, I’ll keep checking if you guy keep chatting here!

wjmtv: It is rather cozy in here, isn’t it?

    …..Yes!

I’m loving these threads ( and learning a lot from AI experts)!!!

  94. I love #33 and all the stuff by the window. Something about the light hits my photographer sensibilities.

Even though this is only a sneak peek, for fun I’ll speculate about the album! :) If I had to judge by the photos alone, I’d say it has a brighter feel (all the white walls, natural light, etc.) and perhaps that reflects the album’s content. His music in general is pretty light, so they aren’t making him sing dark depressing stuff. Hopefully. Lol.

  95. You all have pointed out the good ones but I like #37 too. Something about his presence in that photo…

I think these photos could also be for things such as tour posters and other promo material. Which is great, I think they will turn out well.

  96. Fun to speculate!

Contemplative, almost wistful and nostalgic, but not sad, would sum up the predominant visual (and auditory) feeling of this video for me. The contained, illuminated nature of the warehouse, and the lack of outward view, speak to me of a place to integrate feelings and events, of self examination. It’s a world of its own.

  97. Shades of the cover of So I’m Told?

Re the photographer’s portfolio: lovely work. Interesting that at first look many of his photos feel like b&w, but are in fact colored. To me these two perceptions shimmer together, between them lies a sense of mystery and infinite possibilities …

So … my take on the cover is that it could be mostly b&w, but low contrast, not high – kind of washed out and suggestive – a lyrical dreamy light filled feel? With maybe some hints of color eg skin tones?

Listen to me ramble – my lifelong obsession with light and shade has been exposed!

  98. cristististi:

His music in general is pretty light, so they aren’t making him sing dark depressing stuff. Hopefully. Lol.

And he’s clearly still pumped about winning, so if he’s been writing all this time, I expect it to be peppy stuff. I’ve heard him say more than once that he likes to write songs everyone can relate to, and who doesn’t want to be happy?

    Jeez, imkhemari, eloquent much? :)

  99. Wistful is one word I have previously used to describe Slumberland. I could definitely see more of that vibe on the new record. I actually don’t think Lee leans toward happier or peppier songs, it is that little bit on angst in his music that I think gives him an edge. I love my music angsty so I hope some of that remains. :)

Thanks for the link to the photographer. He does have a very interesting style. I liked a lot of his images more when looking at them as finished products such as in ads than stand alone shots, so I think they would work well for album covers, tour posters, ect. What I liked a lot is the photographer really seemed to capture a candid type of expression and vibe in a very posed shot.

  100. He said it has a bluesy-soul vibe at times, so there could be some sorrow in there. Maybe his frustrations from the show come through in a few songs.

  101. I love me some angst too, so I hope things aren’t *too* happy-skippy. Not that I seriously think they would be. If I had to sum his vibe up in one word, it would be “wistful.” But I think you can also be looking forward or up without losing that quality.

That’s why, no matter how beautiful I think his smile is, I don’t expect him to be smiling on the cover. And I’m ok with that.

  102. Contemplative, almost wistful and nostalgic, but not sad, would sum up the predominant visual (and auditory) feeling

But did he make himself cry? Isn’t that Lee’s singular strength per Fuller’s press release at his signing? ;-)

Pre-orders count as first week sales, so long as you leave them active long enough to be charged on the day of release (or, with Amazon, a day or two before since Amazon likes tries to get it to you on release date.) Only “street” sales that are sold illegally prior to release date aren’t tallied for first week numbers, but they do go to overall sales and certifications.

  103. Thanks for the link to the photographer Dlynne. It does almost look like all black and white then you look at the pics and there’s color there. Swimming in the shallow end now, I think Lee’s hair and eyes need to really stand out. That’s why I dont think the background should be dark and why I like all the light and white walls in the peek of the photo shoot.

As for the music, definitely not too happy, angst is important too. I want the music to be all Lee, of course but at the same time be very commercial. He really, really needs a hit single to put the criticism to rest. Well maybe not all of it. Is that too much to ask?

  104. Here’s part of the press release you can take from it what you will:

“Lee is the People’s choice, the working class hero who won the hearts of America to become The 9th American Idol,” says Simon Fuller – Creator of American Idol and Founder of 19 Entertainment. “Lee has a powerful voice, integrity and a passion for music that literally brought tears to his eyes. We are all looking forward so much to Lee recording his new album to be released in the late fall.”

“Lee struck a real chord with the American public this season on Idol. His humility coupled with his vast talent and musicianship should make him a big artist for a long time to come,” says Barry Weiss, Chairman & CEO RCA/JIVE Label Group. “We at the RCA Label are excited to work with Lee and 19 on an album that speaks to his widespread appeal.”

Lee is a passionate, emotional singer/songwriter, nothing wrong with that.

weareallinnocent, thanks for the info about preorders.

  105. As for the music, definitely not too happy, angst is important too. I want the music to be all Lee, of course but at the same time be very commercial. He really, really needs a hit single to put the criticism to rest. Well maybe not all of it. Is that too much to ask?

Agreed! I’m crossing my fingers for a hit single too. I hope he can win over people or at least surprise them. There’s this dark cloud over season 9 but there’s a whole batch of non-AI followers that have yet to hear his music. I’m excited to see how those people react. With Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Kesha being played a thousand times a day, maybe he will stand out.

  106. Great thoughts, everyone, on the mood of the album. Because Lee is dressed in all black, the photo would almost have to be high contrast with maybe a pop of color, although I didn’t see any color in the video. That’s why I think it will be a black and white image. It would be much more dramatic than a color image of black and white. And I’d be surprised if they chose to go the dreamy route. It doesn’t jive with the description of the kind of artist they are marketing him as, which is very masculine to me, the use of words like “working class hero” and “powerful voice”.

I also hope for a good bit of angsty and wistful with a couple of romantic upbeat songs mixed in. I don’t remember the last time I was so excited about an album! (Please, don’t tell Cookie I said that!)

  107. Aladdict, rereading that press release 3 months on is very interesting, it’s surprising how the meme “he made himself cry” has become so prevalent that it’s the only thing I really remember about it, perhaps because it got repeated (and subtly twisted) so many times. Refreshing to see it in context of all the good things said!

    wjmtvJeez, imkhemari, eloquent much? :)

Much blushes for my late night purple prose!!!!

Dlynne Good point about the masculinity! Actually I think there’s a duality in almost everything we see and hear of Lee – the “working class hero” and “powerful voice” set against “wistfulness” and “a bit of angst” – “hard vocals over some soft, nice instrumentals” – and Jiro Schneider’s work seems a good match for this. I’m not really sure how – or even if – he’ll visually show this duality – hard or soft, b&w or color, all I know is that I’m now really looking forward to seeing the cover.

And I’m so looking forward to hearing Lee’s new music, here’s hoping it’s a great success!!

  108. I am looking forward to a single release!! I have enjoyed reading everyone comments, I hope everyone will continue to post!

  109. (Please, don’t tell Cookie I said that!)

Oh yeah, I’m definitely telling him! :-)

it’s surprising how the meme “he made himself cry” has become so prevalent that it’s the only thing I really remember about it, perhaps because it got repeated (and subtly twisted) so many times.

Now, I took great care to attribute my comment to Fuller alone, with no mention of Weiss or his accolades. And, I’m just approaching the matter lightly, with levity, because if we’re being totally honest and objective here, that is a really strange and funny thing to say. I mean, how often do we hear an artist complimented on the fact that his/her passion brings tears to his/her own eyes? Take a step back and think about that!

Regardless, I said then, and maintain now, that it was a typo! Since there’s been no retraction or correction, however, I guess we can all at least agree that Lee is, if nothing else, unique! :-)

  110. Imkhemari, nice summation! I like that. I think it’s a really good depiction of Lee and his music. He’s got that tough guy exterior, a little rough around the edges, but beneath that is this very sensitive, romantic soul. *swoon*

weareallinnocent, okay, I’ll admit that I’m really looking forward to Cookie’s new release, too. I can love them both.

  111. Awww. I’m so glad he’s home for a little while.

    Dlynne:

weareallinnocent, okay, I’ll admit that I’m really looking forward to Cookie’s new release, too. I can love them both.

Especially since they make it so damned easy. :)

  112. Yep, that’s celebrity for ya. It’s a shame, peeps on twitter were spreading the word about giving Lee some space on his week off. But you’re always going to have those kind of fans who can’t control themselves. As long as they buy his album and boost his sales, I’ll be okay with it :)

  113. Lee has been home for quite a few days now. I am ready for him to get back in the studio.

I’ll admit that I’m really looking forward to Cookie’s new release, too. I can love them both.

Especially since they make it so damned easy.

Yes, they really do. I love Cookie and Lee too. Also love me some Kris!

  114. Off topic, but evidently Lee has been mobbed by fans out and about today http://twitpic.com/2lmsnz. The price of fame?

That is adorable! Look at all of the really young girls/tweens surrounding him. He is having a good hair day, too.

    And those tweens buy albums!

ETA: She twittered again saying that it was part of a shoot for AI. The fans were part of the shoot. No wonder he’s having a good hair day!

  115. Further info: it seems they were shooting for AI when the teens turned up

    On Sunday 5th September 2010, @TweetSweetTara said:
So Lee was back in MP shooting something for AI, which is how I met him. He didn’t get swarmed just going to eat lunch. He wasn’t even supposed to say hi to his fans but of course he did. He shot in several different locations. I just stayed for one which was on the train tracks. He was very nice and they were in a rush to get to the next place. He said he was very excited for the 24th! :) Got a lot of pictures and obviously my arm signed. Didn’t know I was going to see him! There was a lot of security around and film crew.

Lol back to work on the holiday! Must have been the only time they could fit it in!

ETA: Just saw that further tweet, my bad!
    @TweetSweetTara
Oh and part of the shot was the fans, so for everyone who feels bad that there were fans there for him, it was part of the shoot.

  116. Thanks to all of you for the comments and information. I really enjoy and look forward to reading them! Even though this thread is now stuck in the dark, back corner, at least it is still here!
Seriously, if I don’t get my daily “Lee fix”, I will need an intervention, maybe even therapy!
I’m not sure exactly why Lee Dewyze has made such an impact on me. I haven’t been a teen-ager for a while, so it’s certainly not that. Hmmm, let’s see, I love his voice, I love his passion, I love his song writing, he is gorgeous, and he is a genuinely nice person………….I guess I do know why!
Can hardly wait to hear his CD!

  117. Ladies, I’m joining in late here but I’ve been following your blogs. I was having some trouble getting into this website. I did write a recap for the Hershey concert. Anyway, I am an obsessesd Lee fan and have been following all your comments. I am super excited for Lee’s album. I plan to buy several copies. His photo shoot was amazing (as Lee would say). And by the way, his hair always looks good!

  118. I wonder if the shoot is for an AI commercial like the one David Cook did or maybe some intro part to the first episode of the new season. Either way I’m looking forward to whatever they were shooting.

Great comments about the duality or contrasts in Lee’s music and personality. I’ve always been drawn to things of a contrasting nature. I love hard music with melodic vocals or as Lee describes more bare instrumentals and hard vocals.

I love Cookie and Lee too. Also love me some Kris!

I couldn’t have said this better myself!

Seriously, if I don’t get my daily “Lee fix”, I will need an intervention, maybe even therapy!

    And this too!

  119. I’ve watched AI since season 1, but Lee was the first person I ever voted for. I was hooked from the moment he sang Chasing Cars. I guess I also need therapy because I google his name daily to check for news, videos anything. I dragged my husband and sons to the AI concert in Hershey. Next year for his solo tour, I’m leaving them home and taking my 28 year old niece who is also a big fan.

  120. Just on twitter
It was great having you back at Victory Liquors @LeeDeWyze! Thanks for putting us in your documentary!

Documentary? Perhaps those train tracks revisited are from the Predicament music video? Perhaps background promo for the new album?

  121. kvwicks13 and anniem47 you are not alone! Lol. I’ve met some amazing Lee fans on twitter and we definately have some interesting conversations regarding Lee. I think its awesome how his music has brought so many people together. It shows the power of music and how people can be drawn in for a variety of reasons. And he’s also nice to look at :)

  122. Imkhemari So he went to an icecream store, railroad tracks and victory liquors today. He made it sound like he went to a ton of places today. I wonder what the documentary is for. What would AI use this sort of footage for?

  123. Ah, I see, Lee was working from home today!

    Welcome kvwicks13!

Back on the train tracks, eh?

Yeah, talk about coming full circle! smiley face. where are my emoticons?

ETA: and Victory Liquors! wow! yeah, what could this be for. this is an interesting turn of events today.

  124. My suspicion is that it’s not AI but the record label/management as part of the album promo – it’d be easy to mistake one for the other as its been all AI up until now.

Whatever, its exciting! Hope we see it soon.

ETA: Whoops I’m fangirling. This has been a good thread – welcome everyone!

  125. One of the fans that was there was told it was for AI but I’m sure we’ll find out eventually. Hopefully sooner rather than later :)

And on a completely different Lee topic, I’m really glad he hasn’t had a twitter party. He said he would on Friday but he didn’t. His friends and family deserve 100% of his freetime. He doesn’t need to talk to us crazy fans every day!

  126. I’ll bet you’re right, Imkhemari. I don’t know why they’d be having him do AI stuff when the show doesn’t start until Jan and his album is due out in Nov. Of course, there I go applying logic to the music biz…..

Welcome, cks13 and anniem47. I’ve bookmarked this thread. I figure if we all do, we can have this nice little hidey-hole for a loooong time. :)

    “working from home.” LOL, AIaddict!

  127. Thanks everyone for all of the info. Great to read the discussions starting with the photo shoot and then going to what Lee’s album may be like and now to the video today. It is great that someone is keeping the buzz going by doing this photo shoot- whatever it does end up being used for! I am hoping that at some point soon Lee may come to the New York City area, but I guess that would be part of the solo tour. I wonder when the solo tour has started in the past?

  128. What would make this really EPIC to the fullest is to keep this thread alive until the album release – is this even possible???? (wishful thinking) . Aside from enjoying all the discussions, we are getting more Lee fans join in too.

  129. There’s some suggestions floating round Twitter that it could be a DVD to tie in with Arlington Park …

Just glad that something is moving, I was feeling withdrawal symptoms myself when the tour ended – and now the momentum is picking up again with the cover photo shoot and the filming! Nice they’re focusing on Chicago, “full circle” (as Aladdict said) and “coming home”, as a base to start anew!

And now I must go down to the mall before school is out and it becomes inundated with teens!

ETA: I’ve bookmarked here as well, but I’m sure we can “leapfrog” to new Lee threads as they appear – and I now feel sure they will be coming!

  130. There will be Lee news in the very near future, especially with his return to Arlington Park and the upcoming single. Maybe he’ll even spill some beans sometime soon! (A fan can dream..)

Leapfrogging makes sense. It does make me feel all kinds of warm and fuzzy to see this thread at 141 comments though :)

  131. Thanks for sharing the vid jennl. That would be a good Lee-fix for the day.
Always makes me happy to see how much he is loved by his fans.

  132. If they’re sticking with the “working class” tag, Chicago makes a lot of sense.

brook52, Kris started his tour in May, Adam in June, and Cookie hit the road in Feb 09. Not very helpful! So we’ll have to wait for an announcement, but if Lee is the one who gets to pick, I’m guessing it’ll be sooner rather than later.

  133. I love the music discussion and album speculation on this thread. I have his first two albums and long to hear him performing new music that he has written himself- I know he must be tired of singing covers. He has promised that his new album will be “him.” I sure hope so.

  134. thanks for the video link jennyl! wow! did you all notice at the end of that video how many fans were outside the ice cream shop? He said he did not think people knew he would be there or something like that.

Also, at the beginning of the photo shoot video he when he says this is Leeeeee, instead of this is Lee, that just cracks me up. It’s like he’s seen it and heard girls say his name that way so much that he himself says it that way.

oh, and I bookmarked this page but yes leaping to the next new Lee thread is a good idea.

ETA: Who here is on twitter? I am regina4real there. If you want we could follow each other there.

  135. I am also looking forward to new Lee music to put on my ipod. Right now I have about 50 songs, a combination of songs from Slumberland, So I’m Told, AI performances and some tv show performances. November 16th can’t come soon enough!

  136. I wonder if they are putting together a short “documentary” to show prior to his performance at the racetrack. Or, they could be using the package as a commercial for the new season. I don’t think it’s too early to shoot it, especially because he’s at home right now and he probably won’t be home for any real length of time again until the album is finished.

I know MJ likes us to stay on topic and we’re starting to stray so maybe she’ll pop in here to tell us whether she wants us to move to the headlines thread with the hometown video discussion and/or album discussion or perhaps start another thread about it.

ETA: Those screams at the end of the ice cream video are funny and loud!

  137. There’s some info on the headlines thread about how the singles are usually released

girlygirl: 19 makes a big deal of premiering the debut singles on the radio (preferably on Z100 or KIIS-FM)

anovich:They also love using Popeater – isn’t that how Light On by Cook was premiered?

and also about the Ford event

girlygirl: So I would expect Lee & Crystal to both play a couple of songs that they have been doing on the AI tour, and maybe team up for some duet. No new music.

Guess we have moved the topic along with the Chicago filming!

My twitter has the same name as here, but I haven’t used it to twitter as yet, it was just to lend support by following and researching Lee! But I’m open to exchanging follows.

  138. My twitter name is the same as it is here. I use twitter quite a bit so I’d definitely be open to following anyone from here :)

The Z100 single premieres are usually something Jive does. Plus I don’t know how aggressively they are going to want to go after CHR radio (Top 40) as opposed to the more accepting and eclectic Hot AC. Popeater is not a bad guess but I’ve heard the labels take pitches from all sorts of different premiere vehicles and choose the best offer.

As far as a tour, I think Lee would start to do some one off events the rest of this year such as the Miami Dolphins tailgating and I’d anticipate some radio jingle balls. I know Kris’ tour didn’t get going until this summer but he was doing quite a bit of one off events last fall and this spring, right? I didn’t follow Kris as closely as David Cook so I’m not entirely positive but I know he was out playing shows. David Cook even did a small handful of jingle balls in the fall of his record release. There may also even be a record release performance/party for Lee on the week of his record drop. So there should be events he will do before a tour can get solidified.

I think we’d be fine talking here until another Lee centric topic pops up. I bookmark Lee’s tag here so it is easiest for me to get to his posts first. http://mjsbigblog.com/tag/lee-dewyze

  139. I’m Musicme1 on twitter. Joined just recently to follow Lee. I don’t twitt. Only person I twitted to is Lee :). I’m open to following anyone here. Imkhemari, I can’t find you on twitter.

  140. Jennyl, I also joined twitter just to follow Lee. I normally don’t twitt either but would be willing to follow fellow Lee fans. I’m kvwicks. (K for Karen)

I agree that we should continue to stay here until some new Lee news pops up.

  141. On twitter I am Aprilfoolish14u. I loved the ice cream store video. It must really bring it home to him how much his life has changed when he goes to a place where just a year ago, he would just be Lee, hometown boy. Now he is Leeeeeeeee!
I finally got to watch video shoot and it was great! Someone brought up the fact he went to the hospital after the next concert he did, (did we ever find out why?), and he does look a little flushed in some pictures. There was a clip of the idols when they were practicing MLWSWY pre-tour where he commented, “let’s just take off all our clothes!” , so for someone who always seems overdressed, he is open to other options!

  142. Oh, and there was a show on (Undercover Boss) that featured Arlington Park Race Track on last night. I went, “oooooh! That’s where Lee stood!” it sure was a lot more empty! Am I getting to the point where everything reminds me of Lee??!! No, of course not! (hmmmmm some eye-rolling from people that know me lol.)

  143. Jennyl I accidently hit block which poofed your follow, sorry. I’m on iPod itouch which has really small screen. I immediately unblocked but I guess you have to hit follow again.

  144. I’m itscristic on twitter but I tweet ALOT. :)

Is it too early for them to be filming a music video?? I read a fan encounter where Lee said they already chose the single and he knows what it’s called. Of course, that could be completely false so whatever. I can imagine it being for AI as sort of a commercial or something. They can be like ‘Hey, Lee used to go to this bar to sing! He went to this icecream parlor! And now he’s the american idol!!’

  145. I’m now following you all on twitter who posted your names. :)

A music video could certainly be possible especially if they want the video out close to the single. I’m really excited to see what they were filming for. And it was me Lee told about knowing the name of the single. I’m sure he talked to other fans about it at some point too.

  146. I’m stay4awhile on twitter, but rarely tweet, mostly just there to follow Lee. I’ve been “lurking” here at mj’s for quite awhile…

  147. 19 needs to keep the buzz going on Lee’s cd so hopefully they will start leaking bits and pieces about the details to keep people interested. I am so anxious to find out who he’s working with.

  148. I’m not worried about the lack of buzz right now. The single’s in the wings, and with the album comes the media circuit parade.

  149. Thanks for all those videos! I love seeing Arlington Park advertising the show and using Lee’s song too!

There must have been some word locally about the filming yesterday because that is a lot of people who came out to all those locations. I’m very, very curious what that film is going to be used for.

  150. Anyone have any updates on how the Arlington Park ticket sales are doing?

  151. So are the tickets for Arlington going okay? I really want him to have an outstanding turnout. Looking back at those homecoming clips makes me misty eyed. I wish I could go. Hope to see lots of videos and recaps. Will there be live blog?

  152. Karen thanks for those videos. I wish i could go to his show too. maybe wjmtv update us on the ticket situation.

  153. Yes, Karen, thanks for the videos. I wish that I could go to the show. I actually did look up plane fare…I do hope for a huge turnout!

  154. I was thinking of going to Arlington Park but the date just doesn’t work for me. Maybe the next show! It really sounds like it will be an event to remember for sure. I know you can hover over the event diagram on the ticker purchase page to see how many tickets remain but it doesn’t say how many tickets were available. The area closest to the stage and the closest reserved seating balcony are sold out and the elevated portion close to the stage is almost sold out. There are still a lot of tickets left on the wings but I can’t tell how many have been sold. I hope there is a large crowd there too! With the park advertising and some cheaper options I imagine the turn out will be good.

  155. Does Lee have a manager? I never really gave it too much thought until I saw someone tweeting about being Crystal’s manager.

  156. aprilfoolish, I was thinking about the same thing this morning! I was also wondering, who is providing and paying for things like the body guards, transportation, etc. Does Lee have an actual income yet from all of this? If Lee wants a hamburger, do his “people” take care of it? Do 19E and RCA continue to pay him and pick up the tab for all of the expenses incurred for the impending tour for that album, including his band? Will he be on his own at the end of the tour? When does AI cut him loose completely? I read some place previously that he was going back to his apartment in LA. Is that also paid for as part of the “package”?

  157. The question is if Lee is still managed by 19/Simon Fuller (all the Idols while on the show and tour are). Only a handful of Idols are still managed by 19 (Carrie, Daughtry, David Cook, Kris and Adam I believe are the only ones at this time). I don’t think they generally make an announcement about it but unless we hear of other management for Lee the assumption is he is managed by 19.

All of Lee’s expenses now are paid by the label but they must be paid back through “recoupment”. Basically the record label loans the artist money for all expenses to create and promote the record and then they deduct the artist’s portion of the profit to pay recoupment before the artist is allowed to collect profits. Sometimes artists pay their own expenses for the tour but then get to collect profits on the tour up front. Lee should have been paid an advance on the record deal, for any personal appearances or shows he plays or any endorsements.

  158. I am guessing that he is under contract for a certain amount of time. And it would be the terms of the contract that would dictate all of the items. But I wonder if he has a specific mangager? He is an investment to them and so I would think that everything that they can do to get a good return would be to their and then of course Lee’s advantage. I thought that it was wonderful that they used pre-idol music for the promos-I often wondered if his not singing his music was because of some kind of legal roadblock that perhaps has been taken care of in some way. Perhaps there will be a mix of his old originals and at least one new song at Arlington.

  159. Does Lee have a manager?

Isn’t that what 19E is? I thought they were managing Crystal, too. But I could be wrong.

  160. Well there was a tweet about Crystal but since it’s not confirmed I won’t repeat it, that’s what made me wonder though.

  161. they used pre-idol music for the promos-I often wondered if his not singing his music was because of some kind of legal roadblock that perhaps has been taken care of in some way.

I wasn’t surprised they used So What Now. He sang it at homecoming, so they already had the footage. As far as the second homecoming, I’m sure it will be a mix of covers and originals. Maybe even the new single :)

  162. I love the promos for Arlington. The lyrics of So What Now are perfect! And the stalking video is too cute. He really loves his fans.

I wonder if he’s heading back to LA today or tomorrow to get back to work on the album. I think I heard him say in a video that he was going to be home for five days.

  163. So What Now fits perfectly into the Arlington promo. I wish I was going! 71 days til the CD comes out!

  164. Thank you for the vids Karen. Love the stalker one too. The critics may not show him love but his fans sure do a lot. Makes me happy.

  165. Karen – thanks for sharing the videos.
Yes, Lee does loves his fans and that includes all of us here!!!!

Speaking of managers, does anyone know if Lee is going to have his own band?
I mean a band dedicated to just him versus common band they use for the AI tour? (Thinking in line with D.Cook or Daughtry whose bandmates follow wherever they perform). I thought it would be good for Lee to have his own specially when he goes to promote his album and go on to his solo tour ( nothing beats having bandmates you’re very comfortable with).

  166. Hopefully Lee has some people in mind for his new band. His old Lee Dewyze band was just that, old. No offense intended, but Lee needs a younger good looking band of his own to tour with.

  167. How was Kris Allen’s band formed? Were they musicians that he had played with before? And it looks like Lee is in New York to record.

  168. Lee just tweeted that he just arrived in New York (my home state), and will be in the recording studio tomorrow!

  169. Kris had known Cale before AI the other band members had to audition I believe. Good, I’m glad Lee had some time off but I’m glad he’s back in the studio.

  170. I was wondering about Lee’s band too. I think its really cool how Cook and Kris brought people into their bands they knew and played with from before Idol. I wonder if Lee will do that too.

  171. I’ve always wondered if Lee would bring his friend Vince, who he auditioned with, along into his band. They really seem like they are going to market Lee differently than David Cook and Kris so I don’t know how the whole band thing is going to work for Lee. It is a first for him to have a big public performance so soon into his post Idol career so maybe the AP show will give us some clues.

I’m so happy to hear Lee is in NY to record! Interesting that it was NY instead of LA. I wonder if he’s recording the songs he wrote in NY there and then go back to LA to do the same.

  172. Here’s an article by Lee’s producer/band members. Seems like I;ve seen this before but it was fun to read again. A quote and the link:

“Most of his friends were doing heavier music,” Svitek said. “At the end of the day we would say, ‘You gotta get a band, dude.’ ”

McGuire interrupted, “A young band. We’re all a biscuit shy of 40. Nobody wants to look at us.”

    http://www.suntimes.com/entertainment/music/2261378,CST-FTR-lee12.article

  173. Other than the Lee DeWyze band , I have not seen Lee perform with anyone else (on youtube).
With all due respect to these guys that helped Lee in his musical career, I also think they are a tad too old. I really hope that he will have his own band and that he will be given the opportunity to pick and choose who he likes ( thought this is an important process as his band will become his 2nd family given that he will be on the road with them most of the time….anyway, just random thoughts).

  174. Doesn’t Vince have his own band? I honestly haven’t looked into them, do they have some sort of Chicago-area following?

  175. Hopefully Lee has some people in mind for his new band. His old Lee Dewyze band was just that, old. No offense intended, but Lee needs a younger good looking band of his own to tour with.

You took the words right out of my mouth!

ETA: I think he will have a band. He has said that he prefers to play acoustic and I don’t think that alone translates well to live shows. He will definitely have to have a band…a new, much younger band. I think I mentioned before that I really wouldn’t mind if it was called the Lee Dewyze Band just like his old band. But, please, it needs to be a good-looking young band…talented, too.

I would assume he’ll have auditions just like the rest of the winners. Even Adam has a permanent band so I think it’s pretty much a given. Who knows, though, whether he has an old buddy who is good enough to join him.

AIaddict, I thought I had read everything but I missed that article. I learned things about him I didn’t know. It looks like his old band has moved on. They have a new name and are playing gigs without Lee.

  176. The Sun Times article had alot of information in it about Lee that I hadn’t heard before. I like how McGuire said that Lee was a tree hugger. Also he hated wearing makeup and used to hide from the makeup lady. Too funny!

  177. Vince’s band is called Middleweight. I think they just came out with cd.

  178. AIaddict. That article was a fun read. Thx.

The band had planned to wear Cuban lounge shirts with white pants and matching white shoes.

just sooo cannot imagine Lee in these outfits!
Anyways, aprilfoolish, I just checked out Vince’s band and it does have a cd out called Out of the Basement ( kinda funky pop rock vibe) . My best guess is that Vince is also trying to break into the music business on his own?!?!
I know Lee is so tight-lipped about his album. I just wish he can at least drop little hints here and there.

  179. rivermaya:

I know Lee is so tight-lipped about his album. I just wish he can at least drop little hints here and there.

He did. He told us he’s in NY to record. ;)

  180. Very quiet on the Lee comments today. I guess we need some big news or something exciting to get this going again. We need something to jumpstart us here, come on Lee!

  181. He tweeted that we might get tp-ed tonight, but……well, you know how that goes. At least he’s updating us Twitter-wyze.

  182. Lee is having a twitter party right now and responded to one of his fans that he is going to be trying out a new song on 9/24. Yippee!

  183. I was right! I was right! I was right!
    *dance*

Yes, you were! And I’m so jealous.

He also tweeted that he recorded a new song today and he is very happy about it.

  184. Cool, a new song by Lee AND a dance by wjmtv! My day is looking up! Hope you record it or someone does! (the dance too)

  185. I’m wondering if this is his single? Seems like the perfect place to launch it. And is this a song he wrote(or co-wrote?)

  186. I would bet really good monopoly money that his first single will be something he didn’t write. Unless pigs fly and RCA is in love with his writing style, his first single won’t be something he wrote by himself. Maybe there’s a tiny chance it was cowritten? That would be interesting to say the least.

Here’s a link to a transcript of Lee’s TP last night, I hope it’s okay for me to share it here. This has become our little corner anyway! :)

    http://www.twitlonger.com/show/3hi47u

  187. I’m pretty sure he said in one of his interviews he did some writing on all the songs so far. I think he said some more than others. He seems like a very hands on kind of singer/songwriter. And he also said he would be playing guitar on these songs as well.

  188. Yep, I remember him saying he’s written on all the songs, too. I don’t know if that still holds true, but we can hope. Can’t believe it’s only two freakin’ weeks away!

  189. Hey! I thought our thead was dead! Good to see more posts going. Our “hidey hole” LOL! (wjmtv) still hopping! Allright! I am so excited about the new song! Yes, I will be amazed if the new song is something Lee actually had a hand in writing. If it is it will be a first. I looked up flights to chicago. If my hubby would not mind I would so be on a plane on 9/23. I love this from Lee’s tp:

:what do u use in your hair to make it look so good?

A: lucky charms..i dunno i dont put much in lol

LOL! maybe the days he wears the beanie and hoodie are the days he puts in the lucky charms. LOL! seriously though, he puts something in his hair cause it sure is pretty.

  190. Aladdict, he would definitely win the award for the “best hair” out of all the idol winners! Probably the prettiest eyes also! Those baby blues are awesome!

  191. Lee isn’t the first hands-on AI winner. Unless he wrote (or co-wrote) a mind-blowing song, I don’t see them trusting his capabilities. Now, I could be completely wrong. Maybe Lee has written the next Use Somebody that’s played every ten minutes on the radio. Clearly it’s not impossible! Hell, maybe he has! Maybe that’s why he’s so happy all the time and tells us he loves us fifty times a day :)

  192. I am so excited for the new song too. I wonder if that will be the first time we hear it or if the single will premiere that week. I am also skeptical about if RCA will let Lee cowrite his single but I also think that they may try some new angles to market Lee and to play up the singer-songwriter/musician angle. If they don’t expect massive sales maybe letting go a little commercial control will be the tradeoff.

I also wonder what other songs Lee will perform? More of his older originals? A Few covers from the show? I wonder if it will be a lot like the homecoming concert or not? It will certainly be dark when he takes the stage so they probably have to add lighting and such as well. I would love to be there too and I strongly considered it but the timing is not ideal for me. Maybe the next show!

  193. Yeah, Lee’s not the first hands on winner but he would be the first to have a song as his first single that he wrote or co wrote.

tells us he loves us fifty times a day

    LOL!

  194. Hopefully mj will live blog Lee’s show on the 24th, fingers crossed!I still wonder how many tickets went on sale for his show. Are they expecting a crowd as huge as his homecoming? Or did they scale it back to x number of seats available?

  195. I love his tweets! “Daily affirmations from Lee DeWyze.” When RL is sucking, it cheers me up to get a message that he loves us and
we’re the best fans in the world.
About his single-I have seen several interviews where he said they are letting him write on every song.
Then on the latest one , he said they let him at least co-write on almost every song and I thought, well, I guess some professional songwriter gets the single. I wonder if some of the songwriters AI uses are promised a single in their contract. That’s the only explanation I can think of for most recent choice of singles for Kris and DC, because they both had much better songs on their albums than last singles.

  196. artemis:

That’s the only explanation I can think of for most recent choice of singles for Kris and DC, because they both had much better songs on their albums than last singles.

Ain’t that the truth! If Lee has a “Declaration” or “AWM” on his album and it isn’t a single, I’m going to be even more pissed than I am now. (No, I’m not over “Declaration” yet.)

The tix for Arlington are baffling. I think the entire grandstand is available, but I’m not sure. The sections have different names in the description vs. where you actually get the tickets. Way to confuse things, people!

Does “festival seating” mean “wherever you can find a seat?”

    “Lucky Charms.” *snicker*

  197. I keep getting this picture in my head of marshmallowy treats! Maybe that’s silly salamander food.
About the photo shoot….since he went to hospital a day or so later, did anyone find out any specifics?
And best hair, purtiest eyes, and woah-dat smile! Also a fine son, the friend everyone wants, and he’s great to all us fans.
Now before the 24th we have Lee and Crystal singing for Ford, so we have that to look forward to.
Btw, does Lee drive his Fiesta?

  198. I remember reading that Lee bought a new car but I don’t remember where. Did you see the ‘Stalking Lee DeWyze Day’ video from his time around Mt.Prospect on Sunday? The girl who made it thinks she is standing next to Lee’s car (at 0.38) which looks like a big SUV but it could have belonged to anyone with him – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQ4QwuHZttA. I can’t believe he’d drive the Fiesta, he said once in a twitter party he wanted a Mustang. Hey are you all following Lee on twitter? He’s getting really close to 50,000 followers so spread the word please!

  199. cristististi:
Maybe Lee has written the next Use Somebody that’s played every ten minutes on the radio. Clearly it’s not impossible! Hell, maybe he has! Maybe that’s why he’s so happy all the time and tells us he loves us fifty times a day :)

It is possible! Lee deserves to have his songs played all the time! Love your ideas!

  200. If Lee’s single isn’t written by him I’m calling it now that it will be a Dave Matthews song. DMB is on RCA and Lee has cited them as a musical influence. But I’m still holding out hope he at least got to write on the song.

Wjmtv, is it all seating at Arlington Park or do you think it could be just standing general admission? Either way we are all still jealous. ;)

Lee’s tweet make me smile too. He does a great job of connecting to his fans. Makes it easy to root for him, you know?

  201. Here is a link to the seating at Arlington Park. http://tickets.arlingtonpark.com/ordertickets.asp?p=1668&backurl=%2Feventperformances.asp%3Fevt%3D289%26SearchMonth%3D%26monthsubmit%3D%26SearchText%3D%26Go.x%3D%26Go.y%3D%26pg%3D%26spg%3D1%26c%3D All seating is festival (standing general admission) except the reserved grandstand and balcony. You can hold your cursor over each section to see how many seats are left. There also are general admission seats for $8.00 – they don’t say how many of those are left. Here is the map for the box and reserved seats – not many of those left but I am disappointed that there are lots of tickets still not sold in the other areas. http://tickets.arlingtonpark.com/ordertickets.asp?p=1612&backurl=%2Feventperformances.asp%3Fevt%3D289%26SearchMonth%3D%26monthsubmit%3D%26SearchText%3D%26Go.x%3D%26Go.y%3D%26pg%3D%26spg%3D1%26c%3D

  202. That’s what I’m confused about. There are permanent seats/benches in all those areas except right at the rail on the ground. So I guess they’re using “standing room” as a euphemism for “no reserved seats.” But we won’t know for sure until we get there, will we?

A Dave Matthews co-write? Be still my heart!!

  203. I don’t think a Dave Matthews song would be a bad thing! Lee has been super-secret about who he’s working with…I think that might be a nice surprise. Also, you guys know MUCH more than I do about this, but I remember a tweet some time ago from David Hodges saying something about working with Lee and/or Katie and a song that he thought was going to be huge called “Take You Down”. Anybody know anything about him?

  204. I went to Homecoming and the benches don’t seat many people at all. Unless you want to get there when it opens, you’re probably gonna stand. But that’s OK! Cause it will be so Exciting who would want to sit anyway!!

  205. DM+LD sounds reallllly nice. And yes, there was a tweet waaay back, maybe June of David Hodges saying he had written with Lee. That’s all I know, they may have written good stuff or it was left on the recording room floor.

  206. I remember the tweet from Hodges but I don’t think that particular song was Lee’s song. I could be wrong though. Hodges was one of the original members of Evanesence and he’s written quite a few hits. He wrote on Daughtry’s “What About Now” and Archie’s “Crush” and also worked quite a bit with David Cook on his upcoming record. His style is kind of a piano based pop rock so I think he could come up with something good with Lee.

I wonder how many tickets were available to begin with at Arlington Park. I like seeing that several sections are sold out and tickets are continuing to sell. I bet there will be a good crowd at the show.

  207. I’ve been lurking only the last few days – trying to adjust to major spec prescription changes. At present my nose is pressed up against the screen – anxiously awaiting for computer glasses to arrive!

I’ve long thought that it could be that they have some unusual and special co-writer that the wraps have been kept on to create a buzz, rather than they were covering up a lack of investment in good writers. Maybe someone who doesn’t usually work with AI – but recognises Lee’s talent? Dave Matthews would be wonderful!

Also the single was probably written before the photo shoot – that was the last time Lee commuted to work on the album – and the “almost all” comment was after this. Still really just guessing, but unless they’ve suddenly changed their minds, it’s at least a co-write.

I remember that David Hodges title, and recently saw it on one of the charts at about #50 and thought that must have been it? Didn’t recognise the singer – not clued up about such things!

I’ve been looking at the Arlington Park seating as well – if you click on the grandstand it shows which seats are booked (at least a few in all areas) – so I did a bit of number crunching. It looks like there’s about 2000 left in the wings of the grandstand, with the central boxes effectively sold out. The “GA reserved” area still has about 8000 available, mostly in the 2 outer areas. (seems to me if you have to reserve them there is seating, even if its first come first served otherwise you would get just as good a view by paying less and standing alongside the area!)

But it doesn’t say how many GA have been sold, so no idea really as to numbers. However I did notice that tickets are selling slowly at present – maybe 80-100 in a day? Guess it’s still early days, the concert is 2 weeks away yet, and lots of people wait til later especially with an outdoor venue.

    Edited a few grammaticals!!!

  208. All this process is so new to me, but I gather they consider songs from all sources. There was an ad put out by Taxi for songs for both Crystal and Lee, I posted about it in a “Crystal” thread, but with my usual lag time it was out of the flow so drew no comments!

Disappointing as it is, for both of them, that TPTB would consider “trolling” for material, at least they wanted “singer-songwriter” songs for Lee – they were looking for rock for Crystal! I’ll bring the post with the quoted ads, over if anyone is interested – the Taxi page will have changed by now.

Now that it’s coming down to the sharp end of the album I guess Lee will have some negotiating to do, it’s all been collecting so far and now choices – songs, sound etc – have to be made.

  209. I bet they sell a lot of tickets at the gate, especially because there are so many seats at that venue. A lot of kids won’t care where they sit and will just show up and pay the $8 the day of the concert.

I also believe that the single has been done for awhile now based on what he told a fan who didn’t make the information public. He gave her the impression that he’s very happy with it. That’s all I really care about. If he has a co-write, that would be cool, too. I just want him to love it. If it’s a co-write with DM, I would be ecstatic.

Btw, does Lee drive his Fiesta?

I don’t think he is or plans to drive it. It’s been parked for exhibition while he’s on tour. He tweeted that he got a new car and it didn’t sound like it was the Fiesta.

  210. I wouldn’t drive it. Too recognizable! He apparently doesn’t need any help in the Being Mobbed by Fans department.

I also agree that tix will sell at the door. Ordering online is a pain in the butt, esp if you can get them for the same price at the venue and there’s no assigned seating anyway.

imkhemar: I’ll bring the post with the quoted ads, over if anyone is interested – the Taxi page will have changed by now.

    Interested! Right here!

My excitement over the 24th went up by about 4000% when I heard he’d be debuting a new song. *tiny squee* Only 16 days to go! (How do I know that? Well, it’s certainly not because there’s a countdown clock on my desktop. Nope, not me.)

  211. Wjmtv, we are anxiously awaiting an exclusive from you after the concert. We will be living vicariously through your experience!

  212. The whole post was long and written towards the Crystal discussion so here’s a mashup. Hope I don’t get myself tangled in b-quotes!!! And credit to someone on idolforums for chasing this twitter link, I just found it quite interesting in what it said about how Jive regard Crystal – and it was the first confirmation that RCA were taking a different approach with Lee!

A tweet by Crystal back Aug 24 @TAXIMusic sorry. Not happening.

Due 8/26: FEMALE ROCK SONGS a la @crystalbowersox, needed by a Sr. VP of A&R at a Major Label for American Idol’s… http://tw0.us/MhP
9:50 AM Aug 25th via SocialOomph (btw Nz time)

The link takes you to this ad in their Rock Listings

CONTEMPORARY FEMALE ROCK SONGS a la Crystal Bowersox, needed by a Sr. VP of A&R at a Major Label for American Idol’s recent runner-up. Think a modern day Janis Joplin or contemporary Melissa Etheridge. They are looking for songs with hit radio potential. An edgy and soulful, yet fresh approach to your lyric theme, along with a memorable hook line are very essential here. Vocal and instrumental demo arrangement must sound current and be top-notch! Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Thursday, August 26, 2010.

and there’s also one for Lee under Singer-songwriter

CONTEMPORARY MALE SINGER-SONGWRITER-type SONGS a la LEE DEWYZE, etc., needed by Sr. VP of A&R at a Major label for last season’s American Idol winner. Very high bar on this one – your songs must be automatically memorable, both lyrically and melodically. A solid song structure plus an authentic tone is really important here! Vocal and instrumental demo presentation must be top-notch! Please submit two to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics/photo/bio. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Friday, August 20, 2010.

I gather TaxiMusic are a reputable agency for finding songs. And the twitter link seems to go to a members’ only page, if you go in directly you reach a different page.

I just hope this is “standard procedure” for new debuts, and they’re not seriously considering any submissions – I feel Lee is too good a songwriter himself to have them preferred over his originals!

However I am relieved that RCA view Lee as a singer-songwriter.

  213. A tweet by Crystal back Aug 24 @TAXIMusic sorry. Not happening.

That tweet from Crystal tells me it isn’t a reputable agency. That sort of stuff is set up through the label/management, not by tweeting the artist.

That being said, we know RCA/19 view him as a singer-songwriter because they mention it in every press release. If anything, I think they want to classify him that way to differentiate him from certain other AI winners. Last I checked, Lee is the only person that sounds like Lee. I’m really glad they aren’t pushing him as The Rocker like they did on the show. He’s much lighter than that.

I wouldn’t be upset if he had no writing credit on his first single. That’s just the way the business is. I will be ecstatic if he cowrote, and I will explode into a thousand blissfully happy pieces if he wrote it by himself. Who knows how his body reacts to pressure and Red Bull? Maybe he did write a mind blowing song in his hotel room one night. We’ll find out really soon!

  214. That is interesting about the taximusic! I wonder if Crystal said not happening was more about the rock part, her not writing it or what cristististi said?

    WJMTV you are so funny!!

I hope Arlington is overflowing with people on the 24!

  215. ^^ TaxiMusic have their own wiki page and seem very well regarded (I checked them out), also the tweet wasn’t addressed to Crystal specifically, it was a general one. I reckon she got it because of the @ and responded publicly off her own bat, as she does if she disagrees with anything! It may be one more reason she’s gone with Gina Orr for her management.

At that time there were practically no press releases – all the info we were getting was coming from Lee – so I did feel reassured by it. Now other releases and the marketing strategy confirm it as well. I agree, they do seem to want to differentiate him from past idols, and I really like the “image” that’s coming through.

It seems a win-win situation for Lee and the label – and previous idols too!

  216. I’d be surprised if any songs through this Taxi service panned out. But I understand them wanting to explore all avenues because you never know. Any non Lee written songs probably will be from big name songwriters. I am excited to see the singer-songwriter genre. I’m also happy to hear Lee was recording more today. I thought he’d be doing more recording in LA but whatever gets the job done! NYC must be a great place to stay a while and get some work done.

Slight change of topic, but if Lee were to do some of his pre Idol originals at Arlington Park, which songs would you like to hear? All Fall Down is my favorite song but Flower Child would be a treat to hear him do live. Or you know, anything!

  217. What is interesting is that I have heard some of Lee’s original songs “covered” on You Tube and listening to them sung by others really shows how how great they are- I think that when a song is sung by someone else and it still sounds fabulous- that is a good test of its musicality and I actually think its commericial viability. I just keep thinking that in time the songs that he has already recorded will become more well known- especially if he gets to sing them on his solo tour. Lets hope for a fabulous single- with lots of Lee input.

  218. My favorite studio recording is “Annabelle” and my favorite live performance was “Stay” from The Huddle. If he did either of those I’d be so happy.

  219. Stay would be fun. (I also really like Cast Away – the lyrics are lovely – but I’m not so sure about a stadium setting.)

Btw I’m also interested to hear the one Wuli have of him singing 7 part harmony! Looks like they are sitting on some interesting work still!

  220. My favorites from Slumberland are Annabelle, Flower Child and Princess (Reprise Version), and also Imagination from So I’m Told. I also found an acoustic version of “Another Sleep Song” that I really liked!

  221. One of my favorites is Bridge Burns- which I have only seen one version of and it seems that everyday I have a different favorite from his previous albums. I would love to hear anyone of them live! But I’ll just have to wait for the videos. I wonder if he will be playing on his own or will have others with him at Arlington?

  222. hmmm…not sure about TaxiMusic. Just read some stuff online that suggests they are not reputable. You have to pay them to submit material. That is never a good thing.

The other thing that stands out to me is the words “a la”. That means “like” to me. In other words, they are looking for music that an artist like Crystal or Lee would sing…not necessarily music for Crystal and Lee.

I have absolutely no song requests for the Arlington concert. Just give me some Lee. Now.

  223. Wow, great to see this thread is still going strong. My favs from Slumberland are Where you lie, flower child and annabelle. From So I’m told is Imagination, red rover and predicament.

I’m really excited about the new song he’s singing and the album. Never been this excited about an album b4. Not even for cookie :). Lee mentioned b4 that ppl will be a little surprise with his album. Wonder what will be the surprise.

  224. I love Annabelle-that’s my favorite. Also Sweet Sweet, Princess and Flower Child. Or anything he wants to sing. His voice just grabbed my heart the first time I heard it.

  225. If Lee’s single isn’t written by him I’m calling it now that it will be a Dave Matthews song. DMB is on RCA and Lee has cited them as a musical influence.

Holy crap! If Lee got to work with DM and that song or songs make the cd I will freakin’ flip out. Dare we dream so big?

ETA: Slumberland- FC, SS WYL, from So I’m Told-Dreaming Alone, Allright, Imagination, Predicament. Also love Never There, which WuLi took down from you tube and his homecoming version of Worth Waiting gets me every time.

  226. I would like to hear “Stay” again. He really cuts loose on that one. “Annabelle” is my fave, but it has to have a full band. It’s just not going to work as dude-with-guitar.

I know there’s a vid floating around somewhere that asks a bunch of teenyboppers what their favorite song was, and nearly all of them said “Princess.” I would expect to hear that one.

Dlynne: I have absolutely no song requests for the Arlington concert. Just give me some Lee. Now.

I’ll second that. To quote the great Inigo Montoya, “I hate waiting.”

  227. My favorites are Never There, Annabelle, Bridge Burns, Dreaming Alone, Sweet Sweet and Flower Child.
Lee is an amazing song writer! He is a great musician and produces wonderful melodies, but the words he writes……….WOW, they are just so poetic, so deep and so meaningful! I find this truely remarkable in such a young man.

  228. “Annabelle” is my fave, but it has to have a full band. It’s just not going to work as dude-with-guitar.

I can’t agree with that, LOL! You’ve seen the video of him in the studio recording Annabelle with just his trusty guitar, haven”t you? I love it more than the recorded version.

  229. I like Annabelle, So What Now, Sweet Sweet, Predicament. I like the harmonies in Parent’s Wish. Oh yeah, Princess and Flower Child. Oh…and Never There with the piano but tone down the guitars maybe.

  230. I think it’s pretty clear that we all love everything that Lee sings, that’s why we are such diehard fans. The first time I heard him sing I was hooked and have not stopped listening to his music, and I’m glad to know others feel the same way.

  231. AIaddict:

I can’t agree with that, LOL! You’ve seen the video of him in the studio recording Annabelle with just his trusty guitar, haven”t you? I love it more than the recorded version.

Yes, I’ve heard that version and it’s powerful, but that banjo or whatever-the-f*#k it is he’s got in the full version, just sends me in a way I’m not even going to try and describe here on a semi-family-friendly board.

  232. Have to agree with kvwicks13, it is great to know that others basically love everything Lee performs- and I too was hooked from the first time I heard him. I have found it interesting that when family members have listened in the car to his pre-idol albums that they became hooked and now it is all we listen to – I have also taken to choosing him on Pandora at work when we are in the office- and again even the younger staff, who did not watch American Idol, love his voice immediately.

  233. Brook52, I love hearing that he is making fans outside the Idol bubble. I really, really, really want him to be as successful as he wants to be.

  234. Yes, I’ve heard that version and it’s powerful, but that banjo or whatever-the-f*#k it is he’s got in the full version, just sends me in a way I’m not even going to try and describe here on a semi-family-friendly board

Allrighty then, I can’t argue with that explanation, Ha!

I went to listen to Annabelle again and someone commented that Annabelle is Lee’s guitar. Now why didn’t I think of that. That’s the perfect answer even though we know what Lee’s brother has said about who Annabelle is.

  235. I’ve resigned myself to never understanding Annabelle! Lol. I managed to wrap my head around All Fall Down a month ago so maybe it just takes time.

Can I vent a tiny bit about that special video LDO will post once one of Lee’s various fansites reaches a benchmark? Ugh. Why set a goal at all? It’s just so depressing to see those high number goals and realize it could take months to reach them. I wish they had just set some random date like October 16th. But I’ll try not to worry too much about it :)

  236. I love hearing all the different names of songs you all consider favorites. Really is a testament to the diversity and reach of Lee’s music. He is so very talented.

Cristististi, you may have to elaborate on your thoughts on All Fall Down. That is my favorite song but I’ve never really heard anyone talk about it in detail so I’d love to know what your conclusions are. As far as Annabelle, I always thought it was about an addiction. I’m not sure there is one specific person or vice Lee is talking about but I’ve always taken it in a more general sense. I’m not a big lyrics person so I always feel like my interpretations are way off!

I also know what you mean about the benchmarks because they are going to take quite a bit of time. Nice to have something to look forward to but it is hard knowing they are so far away. If they put the numbers closer fans could have spammed to meet the goals so this way I understand it has to be more of an organic thing plus spreading the word. I still would love to see that performance sooner than later!

  237. cristististi: Actually I feel the same. I was looking at the 50,000 coming up for Twitter and thinking ‘well we’re halfway, won’t you give us half a video now?’

And don’t get me going on my thoughts about the LDO, I’m just reminding myself it’s early days yet and not my responsibility.

The carrot is so far in front you can’t even see it!

  238. I initially thought that Annabelle was meant to be alcohol and the song was about alcoholism. Then I thought, no, it is about alcoholism and Annabelle is a child. Now I am thinking….what was his grandmother’s name? I wonder if that is who he is referring to when he says “Please don’t take Annabelle away”. She was taken away from him.

  239. Lol, I guess I’m more simplistic…I thought Annabelle was his guitar! His grandma is not named Annabelle. I think it could be about drinking, and Annabelle is something or someone important to him. Guys give names to their cars, maybe it’s a case of “Dude… Where’s my car”??!! The paper bag reference makes me think of drinking though, or being homeless. Twitter party…let’s ask him!! Although I did see someone ask him about if it was his guitar and I think he lol-ed.

  240. Re Annabelle, several people have got yes from Lee when asked whether it was his guitar – but his answer probably varies with the person!

Btw word of this thread is spreading through the Lee sphere – I saw a quote from just up this page on one forum, and there’s a notice directing people here on another! Has someone been advertising?

I’m enjoying this discussion, it’s the kind of interaction I’ve looked for but not found on the fansites, and I hope it’ll keep going at least until the next Lee thread provides a new focus. Hope the word spreading doesn’t cause any problems.

As others are getting up I’m heading to bed – its midnight here! See you this evening your time!

  241. It’ll be great to have more Lee fans on this thread. I recall during one of the twitter sessions, when asked about Annabelle, he said it was a secret. So, I guess we may never know the answer.

  242. Here are the Annabelle Lyrics.

I wake up and I crawl out of bed
Look in the mirror just to make sure I’m not dead
    I’m still asleep
    When I finally awake
I pray to whoever that I’m not too late
    Where have I been?

    Please don’t take Annabelle away
    Please don’t take Annabelle away
    Please don’t take Annabelle away
And if you walk with me,
    I will walk with you
And if you talk to me,
Then I will talk to you
And if you walk with me,
    Then I will walk…

    Look out my window
    And it’s kind of dark
Perfect day for a walk inside the park
    I’ll supply the rain
You ask me, I guess it ain’t that bad
Living life out of a paper bag
    Where have I been?

    Please don’t take Annabelle away
    Please don’t take Annabelle away
    Please don’t take Annabelle away
And if you walk with me,
    I will walk with you
And if you talk to me,
    Then I will talk…
And if you walk with me,
    I will walk with…

    Please don’t take Annabelle away
    Please don’t take Annabelle away
    Please don’t take Annabelle away

    Please don’t take Annabelle away
    Please don’t take Annabelle away
    Please don’t take Annabelle away
And if you walk with me,
Then I will walk with you
And if you talk to me,
Then I will talk to you
And if you walk with me,
Then I will walk with you

  243. I have been keeping track of Lee’s twitter account for a couple of days. He has gained 254 people since 9/6/10, not bad and word seems to be spreading! Still going to take awhile to reach the 100,000 mark.

  244. Thanks for the lyrics Karen. I love the first verse. Applies to me most morning :)

Just saw Lee’s new vid on LDO. Never realise that Lee is shorter than his brother. His father is quite tall. Looks like he takes after his mom more than dad.

  245. Another fan finally out of lurking….nice to read all the positive postings!

  246. Welcome, heat914, the more the merrier. We are trying to keep this going until a new thread comes through.

  247. I guess I was just hoping they would throw us a bone on LDO, after randomly banning a ton of people and not really trying to make their site user-friendly. Unless they are just completely oblivious about his current #s, I’m guessing it was on purpose. It could be a vid of him performing a new song and they planned on giving it to us in November. I guess it’s not so bad. We’re politely waiting for the album and all that jazz. By waiting to release the video, it would help entice future fans that will find out about him through his new record.

Thanks for posting the lyrics to Annabelle! I don’t have any thoughts on it, except maybe it’s just not meant to have a clear-cut meaning. We (the listener) are supposed to relate to having things taken away from us or some junk like that.

As far as All Fall Down, I interpreted it as a history of the world. Everything is just a cycle, all of this has happened before and all this will happen again. I’ll post the lyrics:

And if I were the world
    I would stop turning
And if I were the trees
    I would stop burning
And if I were the sky
I would fall down, down, down
Because what goes up must come-

    We all fall down
    We all fall down
    We all fall down
    We all fall down
    We all fall down

    Down, down, down,
    down, down, down

    So many unhappy faces
    In so many unhappy places
And if I were the king would anything change?
    Because after time,
Only the faces and the names are rearranged

And if I were the world
    I would stop turning
And if I were the trees
    I would stop burning
And if I were the sky
I would fall down, down, down
Because what goes up must come-

    We all fall down
    We all fall down
    We all fall down
    We all fall down
    We all fall down

And if I were the world
    I would stop turnin

I make sense of it by imagining a guy who’s feeling down about the world. There’s corruption, death and for me the burning trees could represent something negative like sin. At the beginning the speaker wants to stop time (stop the world from turning) and stop these negative things from happening. The line ‘Because what goes up must come… down’ presents the idea that there’s a natural order.

I always understood ‘we all fall down’ to be death. It’s a bit sinister to look at it that way but in the context of the song it fits in with the burning trees and such.

The speaker is also upset over the many miserable people in the world. There’s poverty, hunger and so on. If the speaker were in charge of the world, would he be able to make a difference? ‘After time only the faces and the names are rearranged’ also evokes that idea of life being a cycle. Humans as a race don’t really learn from past mistakes (desire for power, for example) and the same things corrupt us (greed, lust, gluttony, all those 7 deadly sins!)

Okay so the end of the song… ‘If I were the world I would stop turning’ can be interpreted in a very sad way. Does the happiness in the world outweigh the misery? If cycles just keep repeating for the rest of time, what’s the point?

Like I said, this is a pretty dark interpretation. I would love to hear other people’s thoughts on it!

  248. AIaddict–What did Lee’s brother say about who/what Annabelle is?

  249. cristististi I think your interpretation of We All Fall Down is dead on. Lee’s a pretty deep thinker and it comes thru in this song alot.

I read at LDO that his brother said that Annabelle is whoever/whatever the listener wants her to be. I know that still does not tell us who Annabelle is to Lee.

When I listen to Annabelle I imagine a single alcoholic father trying to raise his daughter by himself in a rickety wooden shack. People have come to take Annabelle from him. He wants to try to talk to the people to discuss whats happening and try to convince them to let Annabelle stay. “If you’re askin me I guess it aint that bad livin life out of a paper bag” is him saying yes, I drink but not so much that I can’t care for my daughter but in reality this person is an alcoholic. It’s probably in Annabelle’s best interest to leave but her father really does love her and can’t bear the thought of them taking her.

  250. Cristististi. The interpertation is well thought out and is pretty interesting though it is a bit dark. :) I don’t really think too much into the lyrics of songs when I listen to them so I don’t really have any thoughts to comment. (plus my english is not good enough for deep discussions/analysis. haha).

From the lyrics of Never There and now this, seems like Lee went through some tough times in the past. Although there are some thoughts that songwriters have to go through these experiences to write great songs, I hope Lee will write some happier songs now.

I remember reading a blog on LDO where a fan did an interesting analysis of each of the songs and sum up the whole message of Slumberland. Tried to find it but its gone now. That site is really not user friendly.

  251. What about WHERE YOU LIE:

Under your bed, where you lie your head
    There’s something waiting for you
An empty bedroom where you lie
And it’s just too hard to try
You’ve done all you can do

    And under your cover
    That’s where you’ll find me
    Waiting for you
    And I have discovered
    There’s been another
    Have you been untrue?

And you speak without a word
In a voice I’ve never heard
    I wonder who you are
And as the tears fall from your eyes
It should come as no surprise
How did it get that far?

    And under your cover
    That’s where you’ll find me
    Waiting for you
    And I have discovered
    There’s been another
    Have you been untrue?

If I told you a thousand times
    There’s probably a reason why
    You’re probably gonna cry
And if I told you a thousand times
    There’s probably a reason why
    You’re probably gonna cry

    And under your cover
    That’s where you’ll find me
    Waiting for you
    And I have discovered
    There’s been another
    Have you been untrue?

    And under your cover
    That’s where you’ll find me
    Waiting for you

If I told you a thousand times
    Probably a reason why
    Probably gonna cry,
    Probably gonna cry

I love this song too. It seems like an obsessive/possessive boyfriend found out his girl has been with someone else and he’s not too happy about that and is going to make her pay. Kind of a creepy cheatin/breakin up badly kind of song. The opening lyrics, “under your bed where you lie your head there’s something waiting for you” that right there is a bit scary, LOL!

  252. I know that Lee has often said that he writes songs people can relate to. So a song like Annabelle could mean something different for each person but they somehow can all relate to it in their own way. If that makes any sense. I think that’s what Lee is trying to accomplish.

  253. This discussion is so much fun, thanks everyone! I’ve really been missing this sort of chatting with other fans.

My friend wrote up the interpretation about Slumberland. She was also able to give Lee a copy of it, which I think was a really cool gift. http://www.leedewyzeofficial.com/blog/my-interpretation-slumberland

I love Never There too. Lee has written so many great songs.

As far as the performance video, Lee is the closest to 100k on facebook (64,000) so make sure you add him there too!

  254. Just thought of another one I’d love to hear his full version of! “Ain’t No Sunshine”

  255. The Slumberland interpretation is really interesting. I’ll bet it means a lot to Lee to have his fans actually care about what his lyrics mean.

  256. Is anyone else a little concerned about ticket sales for the show at Arlington Park? Was it a mistake for tptb to try and recreate Lee’s top 3 homecoming concert?

  257. I am both concerned and confused about the ticket sales at AP. I was terrified it might flop the second I heard it mentioned. Imkhemari crunched numbers yesterday and said roughly 10,000 tickets were left (if I understood correctly). Hometown concert was sold out around 40,000. Does that mean 30,000 tickets have actually sold?

  258. The 24th is still 15 days away. Some people might be waiting last minute to buy their tickets. I would think since 40000 went to the homecoming concert that many of the same people would return now that he’s the actual American Idol.

  259. It is really hard to say about the ticket sales. Even if 10,000 people showed up it would be an incredible crowd. So I’m trying not to look at it as the difference between the Idol homecoming and the show because with having to pay for tickets and no TV crew, there is bound to be less people in attendance. I think it is good the center areas are sold out and hopefully the side areas will keep selling. I also wondered about redoing the same venue but with it at AP I think it will accommodate and include more people that wouldn’t have been able to make it out to a club with a smaller capacity and higher ticket prices.

  260. I looked at the Arlington Park website and it offers different prices for the tickets, some include races, dinner, drinks etc.
The $25 tickets which include races, concert and meal were sold out.
There was a package for $60 which had seats available it didn’t say how much. The boxed and reserved seats, the center sections C, D, E, and F were all sold out. Sections A & B had 625 seats available and G, H, I had in total 1453 available.

Premium viewing and general admission area (which didn’t make sense they would be lumped together), had about 7920 tickets available.

So based on my math, there could be 10,000 seats available, but I can’t tell how many were sold.

  261. Lee just tweeted that he met Joss Stone last night. I believe that’s who he named as his celebrity crush awhile back.

  262. Just had a few minutes to check in and read new posts. Thanks for the lyrics and everyone’s thoughts on the meanings. This is a great place to keep the discussion going.

  263. but I can’t tell how many were sold.

That’s what I’d really like to know is how many they are trying to sell for the show. I am really feeling angsty about this show, especially it being at arlington park. His top 3 homecoming was just so epic it would be ashamed for the 9/24 concert if it does not go as well as expected to over shadow that great homecoming day in May for Lee.

He met Joss Stone! awww, that’s great. I wonder if he got to work with her on a song.

  264. As much as I would have LOVED to see the concert sold out in 10 minutes, we have to keep some perspective. He’s only 24 years old, A year ago he was selling paint. A year ago, when he played for a “crowd”, he was lucky to draw 100 people. A year ago NOBODY knew who he was. Now the world knows who Lee Dewyze is, and so does Joss Stone! There are still going to be thousands and thousands of people at this concert to see our boy! Things could be worse.
We all know how talented he is, and given some time to prove himself (and leave behind the specter of AI), he will be a huge successs!

  265. I was wondering what had happend to everyone on LDO site! One day lots of people would be online then the next noone was and no counter at the top.

Thanks for all the songs interpretation they were great.

  266. Hi guys. I haven’t stopped following this thread (just sitting back and enjoying all your wonderful exchanges).

AIaddict : Was it a mistake for tptb to try and recreate Lee’s top 3 homecoming concert?

I have this same thought lingering the past 2 days. Also been watching the ticket sales at Arlington. Just like kvwicks13, the number of available seats I came up with are close to 10K (but then I believe this excludes the general admission ?????).
Knowing there are so many critics (and bloggers) out there waiting to pound on our boy the moment the ticket does not sell well worries me. I guess I just wanted his very first solo to be really really successful. I was thinking why not get a venue with like 5,000 capacity for his very first solo after idol….that would definitely have a sold out headline!
Well, we still got 2 weeks to go.

  267. OK, pardon my ignorance but I am new to all these . So can somebody please tell me what does LDO stand for?
(note : just like it took a while for me to figure out what WGWG mean :))

  268. Keith Urban just tweeted his first single from his new album (also 11/16 release date) will be released to radio on Monday. Wonder when Lee’s will see radio play.

  269. anniem47 thanks and we do all need to try to stay positive and I’ll always be supportive of Lee just like the rest of you because we love Lee and his music. But…

    Exactly.

  270. Did we ever get a figure for how many attended his hometown show? I heard it wasn’t in a nice part of town, hard to get to, etc which affected it a bit, but wjmtv, you were there…it was about how many?? Huge arena…so percentage wise it probably was low, but just wondered about the numbers.
Lee sure looks good in the photo shoot.

Eta. Yes I was talking about show on August 28th, at United Centre.

  271. Lee sure looks good in the photo shoot.

I don’t know why but this made me laugh out loud. I guess we do need to bring the discussion back around to the photo shoot every now and then, right? And, yes, Lee looks damn good in the photo shoot.

  272. I am also concerned about Lee’s AP concert ticket sales but there has not been a lot of promotion. The only thing I’ve seen are 2 stories in the suburban paper. They did a new one today http://www.dailyherald.com/story/comments/?id=406689
Haven’t seen anything in the 2 big Chicago papers – just did a google search and only the racetrack site comes up. I haven’t seen anything around Mt. Prospect either. Could it be that a lot of people just haven’t heard about it?

  273. Lee looks and sounds amazing in the photo shoot. Those beautiful, soleful blue eyes! That great hair! That wonderful, sexy voice! That endearing sense of humor! It all works for me!
Now that I am back on topic, I need a drink of cold water!

  274. Hi, just checking in. Some figures to ponder!

Numbers interest me and I’ve been keeping tabs on Lee’s twitter numbers since the tour began, and have also started to record Arlington sales.

Arlington: Over the last 3 days Arlington has been steadily selling 80 reserved space tickets a day – and who knows how many GA? But we don’t actually know how many have been sold, also people tend to buy closer to the time, especially if there’s still plenty of tickets. I really don’t think we need worry yet!

I also think that there may be further promos to come. Very much just speculating but what if

    Girlygirl:
I wonder if they’ll have Lee’s single debut on the Chicago Hot AC (or Pop) station? I would think that if he’s going to perform it at this Arlington Park concert (as rumored) they would release it to radio before then

So if Chicago Hot HAC (probably not pop?) either announced it was releasing the single, or actually released it, in the week before Arlington
    and/or there was some well-known writer/co-writer.

Such things would really bump up sales, and there’s probably plenty more they can do. Who knows what these next 2 weeks will bring?

Re Twitter numbers: Lee’s twitter followers went from ~35000 on 4 Jul to ~48800 on 31 Aug, to 49660 today. While he was still on TV plus the first twitter parties, numbers increased by about 400 per day, since then the rate has been steadily dropping. Since the tour ended it’s been about 100/day. I think we may be near the limit of the core fan interest, new exposure on TV, radio etc please! (<<<< new single, new single, new single!)

And yes Lee sure does look good in the photo shoot – more Lee exposure please! (in more ways than one?)

  275. Imkhemari, those are interesting numbers. I do think we’ve reached a numbers plateau until a single is released or he makes another public appearance besides the Arlington concert.

Do you follow Facebook’s numbers? He’s had a good little spike there since the announcement of a video for a milestone.

  276. From @LetsDothis4Lee:
Wondering what you can do to help us Support & Promote Lee? Well here are 4 HUGE things!

    1) Most importantly, Support #OperationAlbumSpike ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 16th, (next Thursday): Here are the details: http://bit.ly/OpAlSp Even if you’ve already pre-ordered, won’t ya need a backup copy (or 4)? Think about getting some for Holiday gifts…. won’t ya need something for Lee to sign next show you go to of his….?

The physical CD on Amazon is $13, and the MP3s are $12 on iTunes. Why not get both? For $25 you can make a HUGE difference!

    2) Spread the word about Operation Album Spike to EVERYONE. We must have numbers to make this work. Please tweet & retweet http://bit.ly/OpAlSp Our goal is to CATAPULT Lee UP the charts, by making a concentrated effort on ONE DAY (Sept 16th). Post the link on your Facebook page and any forums you visit.

If all the fans pull together, this could be HUGE. Amazon has a ‘Mover’s & Shaker’s’ list that is updated hourly….. all of our work WILL make a difference! Lee has the Ford show on the 17th, so there will already be press, this will be another thing for the media to notice! There will be interviews for the 24th show and wouldn’t it be GREAT to have them write about his album sales sky-rocketing and how he’s busting thru the charts?!?! THIS IS THE GOAL.
    3) Follow us at @LetsDothis4Lee and get everyone you know to do the same :)
We have a lot of big promos coming up. We are a page dedicated to promoting, supporting, campaigning & advocating for Lee DeWyze & all his post-idol efforts. It our way of giving back to Lee for all he’s done for us & to spread his talents as far as we possibly can.

Thank you guys for all of your support. Lee is amazing to his fans, and I know we all would like to have a way to give back to him. This is our goal, it’ll take your support to accomplish it. The other night Lee used the word ‘Thankful’ to describe himself…… these efforts do not go unnoticed, Lee is very genuine in his gratefulness to his fans. Let’s return the favor to him. :) Thank you again for everything!!!

  277. NUMBERS are ultimately the end all! Who has the most number of votes, of followers, of radio air time, of concert sales, of album sales, etc.etc. The successes of the idols will always be judged by numbers no matter what!
    It’s a sad fact but it’s true.
Anyways, back to happy thoughts. Yeah, Lee does look “like a million bucks” in the photo shoots.
Soooo waiting for his album release coz we all know it means he will be doing rounds on TV shows to promote it which means we get to see more of him!!!

  278. stay4awhile: thx for the heads-up on LDO.
One more embarassing question : what does tptb mean? ( I know it has something to do with Ai or 19 mgmt) I searched for it on wikipedia but it meant “that powers to be” which makes absolute no sense to me. Help anyone?

  279. I don’t really follow concert numbers but didn’t DC and Adam do smaller crowds for their post idol concerts. So, in comparision Lee is not doing too bad for a first concert. I really want Lee to do well and will continue to support him but he still have a long way to go.

ETA: He is beyond adorable in the photo shoot. Sigh. Wish I can have a miniature Lee to keep in my pocket. Haha

  280. Dlynne: Do you have any idea why Facebook is spiking? It is closest in numbers to the total for the online video, it would make sense to push an increase there, but why that one and not the others? Maybe Facebook has better networking – I was rather surprised when I joined to have about 50 people there that I knew!

I also think that Twitter is making quite a difference to numbers on fansites, especially this year. I’m new to it, but it seems to me that instead of people interacting on blogs and forums they’re forming little intersecting communities of like-minded people – and the fan sites look deserted! Personally I like a forum where topics can be discussed more fully than 140 characters.

mmm …. I might just expand my number crunching to other places.

ETA Rivermaya: The Powers That Be

  281. I don’t like talking about numbers lol. What matters the most to me is Lee doing what he loves. Let the critics and number crunchers do their thing. I’ll be listening to his music and going to his concerts :)

Oh and I know this is already on the previous page of comments, but I wanted to say that I try to ignore the creepy parts of Where You Lie lol. I focus instead on the feelings of betrayal and reacting to someone cheating on you.

  282. rivermaya, tptb means those who have the power to make the all-important decisions.

  283. Imkhemari, Facebook has been around longer and has more users. Twitter is still pretty much in infancy. Although, personally, I like Twitter better. I think there are a lot more people who use Facebook than Twitter.

Also, when you become a fan/friend of someone, it alerts everyone on your list that you have become a fan/friend. That could prompt someone else to become a fan/friend. It’s that word of mouth, so to speak, that helps build a fanbase.

jennyI, David, Adam and Kris have performed mostly in smaller venues since their Idol days, to around 3000 people or less. I think Adam could have sold more seats if they had been available, however.

If Lee sells 5000 tickets, I will be happy. The only angst I feel is with regard to the concert location. I’d be much happier if it were somewhere else.

  284. cristististi: What should matter the most to me is Lee doing what he loves.

I totally agree. Ultimately it’s all that matters.

I’m curious about numbers, they’ve been my profession, but the difficulty is knowing how they meaningful they are. Or not! Too easy to get lost in them!

  285. Dlynne, no wonder that the spike is there then! Thanks for the explanation.

My wish for Lee is somewhere between 5 and 10,000. I think they could configure Arlington for that and not look too empty, and it would still be a very respectable figure for a new artist, no matter the unfortunate comparison with Lee’s homecoming.

Somehow they should have realised that, so there’s probably more publicity in the pipeline.

  286. aprilfoolish:

Lee sure looks good in the photo shoot.

It was epic. Stuffed to the rafters. The official number I heard was 41K+, and I can beLEEve it…if it had been graded like a regular concert, I’m pretty sure it would have been considered sold out.

I don’t know why anyone would say it’s not a nice part of town…it’s in the NW Chicago ‘burbs, and most of them are places I could only pretend to afford to live in. (What was in a nasty part of town, was the Idols Live concert. Maybe that’s what you heard?)

    cristististi:

Oh and I know this is already on the previous page of comments, but I wanted to say that I try to ignore the creepy parts of Where You Lie lol.

That’s ok. You want creepy? Give a look at the lyrics of “Every Breath You Take” by The Police. And I think we all know how that one did on the charts….. ;)

I’m with those who want Arlington to do well, because there are plenty of people ready & eager to gloat if anything other than Sold Out happens. But let’s be real: the first concert was, most importantly, FREE. Emotions were running high. To expect a repeat is ridiculous, and I’m glad to see we all appear to be realists here. But would 5K be respectable? I certainly think so. Probably not enough to shut up the doubters (who am I kidding? OF COURSE it wouldn’t be enough) but nothing to sneeze at.

Face it: what we all need to be waiting & praying for, is a hit single. Fingers crossed!

ETA: Dlynne, why are you worried about the location?

  287. Imkhemari I know what you mean. Writing is my profession, and it drives me crazy that I worded that sentence that way. I’ll correct it now lol ‘should’ wasn’t supposed to be in that sentence! Argh!

  288. Probably posting alongside Dlynne, but wjmtv i think she meant Lee’s hometown concert in the United Centre in August.

For which we don’t have official figures from Idolstages as yet (… whisks off to check. No.)

cristististi: No worries, I took it that way anyway :)

  289. wjmtv Is that the song ‘every breath you take, every move you make, every step you take… I’ll be watching you’ lol it’s so very creepy!

ITA about Arlington Park. I’m excited for the NEW song he’ll be performing!

  290. Imkhemari, you’re right. I was assuming that Aprilfoolish was talking about the Idols Live concert being the hometown concert. wjmtv attended both, right?

wjmtv, I have angst about the Arlington location because of the comparisons that will be made. There are many people who think the first Arlington concert numbers were exaggerated. And if the numbers are much lower for the second show, it will just confirm that belief for them. We all know that’s not the case but it’s really hard to argue with a brick wall.

  291. Imkhemari. Dlynne. tptb means those who have the power to make the all-important decisions.

…thx for the explanation you guys, now it makes more sense. (I’m learning):).

wjmtv: Face it: what we all need to be waiting & praying for, is a hit single. Fingers crossed!

    … ditto to that !!!!!!!!

ps. just finished watching the thursday NFL. Dave Matthews played pre-game and much as I love DMB, all I can picture is that Lee soooo fit in that niche. Dave and Lee has the most perfect imperfect vocals that just draws you in , they both get so into their songs that they just let go of themselves and on top of that both have restless leg syndrome (non-stop leg tapping while singing – only Lee oozes with sexiness when he does it)!

  292. As an aside, there is a link to an article posted in today’s evening headline thread called Yahoo Chart Watch. It’s very enlightening about the expectation of album sales and the reality of album sales. I would add the link but I’m sure MJ would prefer the discussion to remain over there. It’s definitely worth the time to read it.

  293. I think that the use of twitter has opened up a much more direct connection to all of the “idols”- and it seems that Lee does get how important that is to keep the connection going. He has direct control over his own messages whereas Facebook- seems to get updated slowly. I do wonder about “them” picking 100,000 for the goal- although I guess that Facebook was more than that before it was deleted- or whatever did happen to it. I was not paying attention to the Facebook at that time- so I am not sure! Also- great to look back at the video of the photo shoot…

  294. Everything I can tell from following the Idols the last few years is having a hometown concert like Lee is having is very unusual. I don’t think any of them had any shows until they were done recording and just about ready to release the album. I think a great crowd will be there if it is 5k or 10k or whatever. That is still a large audience to pull in for a first post Idol solo show. I thought the publicity thus far has been good, several Chicago news sites and also on the WTMX concert calendar and a mention on the FOX Chicago site.

I’m a big numbers follower myself but only really because I like to try and understand how things work and have a better idea at what all to anticipate. Mostly though I am excited for what all is to come!

  295. Not only was the Arlington Park homecoming concert free it was promoted on American Idol and all over the Chicago area. The $8 general admission seats are so cheap I think word of the concert just needs to get out there more and lots of people will come. The other issue is he was JUST HERE for the Idols live show so if you went to that and you are not a really big fan you might not feel the need to go see him again (I myself cannot imagine passing up on any Lee performance but…)

  296. As far as the “doubters” go, there are NO numbers large enough to ever change their minds about Lee. They will ALWAYS be negative towards Lee because Crystal didn’t win. These same naysayers continue to cut down the “mindless teen-age girls” for voting for him. Well, teen-age girls are what have always made an idol! You don’t see many pictures of crying, screaming, fainting 30 year old men at the Beatles concerts in the 60’s. Nothing has changed. So let’s hope that all of Lee’s adoring teen-age fan girls buy as many CD’s as possible!

  297. BTW, I’m glad Lee got to meet Joss Stone. It’s nice to see so many of his dreams coming true! I couldn’t be happier for him! And he looks great in the photo shoot!

  298. I have huge respect for mindless teen-age girls. :). Their contribution to the music industry should not be overlooked.

tigervixxxen, thanks for the link on Slumberland. Yup. that’s the one I saw.

  299. First time posting. Saw this thread and went ‘Why not’ :) Really excited for the 24th. New Lee music :)

  300. Hi folks. Number crunching again with Arlington Park – good news I think!!!

LOL, talk about having time on your hands!!! the numbers were driving me crazy so I went through the grandstand, and counted up the seats sold, and (estimating for those areas where they were sold out and you can’t get seating plans) it comes to at least 2500.

Now for the GA reserved areas – these are harder but I think there’s at least the same number booked, maybe a lot more.

wjmtv, or anyone else who’s been there, it would help if you can take a look at the diagram here and tell me if the Reserved and Grand Tier areas are roughly in those proportions, at least in distance along the racetrack? – it would help in getting a more accurate estimate!

Cross your fingers – it’s at least 5000 so far and may be quite a bit more. I’ll recheck the numbers when I get some idea of the scale. I hadn’t realised how really huge that grandstand is!

Hmmm …. I suppose a simpler way would be to just ring the booking office and ask???

ETA Just realised these calcs don’t include the GA $8 tickets at all!
2ETA Please don’t get too excited. I may wake up tomorrow (late afternoon your time) and find I’ve made a big, big mistake somewhere!!!

  301. Hmmm …. I suppose a simpler way would be to just ring the booking office and ask???

What’s the fun in that? Actually, I’m anxious to see how close to the real number you get!

Just in case you’re really missing adorkable Lee…
    http://yfrog.com/j6producez

  302. Welcome, onenineeight. I just recently began posting here myself!

Imkhemari, I hope you are correct. It does my heart good to see people show their support for Lee!
Since you are a numbers person, what is the significance of pre-ordering his CD on September 16?

  303. Actually anniem47:, I’m very new myself, having been seduced by Lee’s voice coming out of the TV set one night a few months back and I wasn’t even watching! Little did I know what I was getting into!

There’s a description of the album spike at the top of the page and a jpg at http://bit.ly/OpAlSp. I gather if enough people join in it “bumps” the album up on a “movers and shakers” chart and may create some media attention. If you go to the older entries a few pages back you’ll find a discussion of the pros and cons – eg you can change your order later, and it counts towards the first week sales!

    Welcome onenineeight.

ETA Just realised you meant the date – chosen tp be 2 months before the album comes out.

  304. I was referring to the idol live concert figures, not top three homecoming. I am of the opinion that Lee broke the record on latter one with 41k+ attending. Who could forget the sea of neon green and blue! I want that for him again. And with it being back at AP for the solo, I thought maybe figures still might be impressive, because someone mentioned AP was more accessible than United Centre. Folks seem to think because Chicago is huge, that is why he had big top 3 homecoming, but I think it was the support he had from his actual hometown Mount Prospect, combined with a lot of other stuff that made it amazing (Lee!). It was well organized, for one thing. Considering that no one can guarantee who will be in top 3, I think makes it even more impressive. Lee’s hometown support wasn’t a sudden thing either, it was ongoing with posters and Tuesday/Wednesday night watching parties and t-shirt sales. I live one town over from Big Mike and in Syesha’s hometown. For BM I didn’t see much promo except an occassional news blip from Charlie Belcher, who covers all things idol. For Syesha, no posters, and no one I know went. I was at work.
Anyhow, I’m rambling, probably cause Lee looks so good in his photo shoot. My main point is, Lee is amazing, but so are his fans, and we just need to do whatever we can to show our support.

  305. About Syesha, she did have a good turnout, I was just pointing out that I didn’t see a lot of buzz like they showed Lee having in Mt Prospect. Also some idols move and hometown is not clearly defined, as in BM living in NY, yet claiming St. Pete where he grew up. And I think the competitive nature of people might have rallied some to come, to root for their favorite, and some of those fans might have moved on, but I am hoping his fan base is still pretty solid. I wish I could go. I think the closer it gets to showtime, there will be more buzz.

  306. I love the AP homecoming. There is a picture taken of Lee on the balcony before the concert looking at the crowd and holding back tears. I think he was overwhelmed by the size of the crowd. Melts my heart all the time.

  307. Tickets to AP are still moving, I just think slowly, but again there are 2 more weeks. From when I checked yesterday afternoon, 58 more tickets were sold. I think all the really good center stage seats are gone and the side areas are just starting to fill in.

  308. I think the AP choice was Lee’s, he did promise to return there during his homecomming concert. Am I remembering correctly?

  309. What I remember is his hearfelt performance of Stay and his wanting to stay alot longer to sing. At the end I think he talked about the AI tour and it being in Chicago saying it would be big and loud and hoping that everyone would come out for that show.

Lee is so funny with his nude shoot comment. I hope he was not sick that day since he made the comment about it being so hot.

Welcome to the newbies! How did you find this thread?

  310. I checked out the AP page again. It seems like the only difficult places to sell are the sides. However, I’m glad they are at least available for sale! I can’t wait for him to look out at a sea of people :)

I don’t remember Lee making a promise about specifically returning to AP, just saying how he would be back really soon (He also said that after Chicago) so who knows.

  311. Okay, here’s the latest. Resevered boxes go from B-G. Those are sold out except G which has only 13 seats left.

Then the other ones labeled A&B seats to the far left and HI seats are to the far right. They are referred to as seats, not boxes. A&B have 596 in total seats left, and HI have 1405 seats. I has no seats sold, but it does look far away. 59 more have sold since yesterday.

Premium viewing and General admission area still have about 7894 tickets left. I don’t know how much those tickets are and where they compare to the other seating. (15 have sold since yesterday)

  312. OK, so I stop by LDO to see if there is any new information about our boy and there is not. It says the latest tweet from Lee was 19 hours ago. Then I click on his twitter site (from the link on LDO) to see if he continues to add fans and, lo and behold, there is a tweet from Lee in NY 15 minutes prior! So I go back to LDO and it still shows no new tweet from Lee, nothing, nada, zilch, zero! The clip of Lee and his brother before the Indianapolis concert showed up on LDO 8 days after it was filmed! What? This is very disconcerting to me. Who is managing his site? Actually, I know the answer……NOBODY!!!
Can’t wait for the CD and the photo shoot is great!

  313. I think the tweets get added to the homepage at LDO automatically but there is a delay. Its been 45 mins and the tweet is there now. I was pleasantly surprised at the number of videos put up during the Idol tour because in my other fandom experience vlogs made for the official site are few and far between. Fingers crossed that continues with album related videos too.

Thanks for the all the ticket numbers recon. I’ll be interested to see how that continues up until the concert.

  314. Ahh news from twitter…

@ClaudeKelly In the studio with @LeeDewyze & Espionage. A song has been created. A good one. Lee is one cool f**ker. That’s all.

Claude is a really big name songwriter who has worked with many Idols including Archie, David Cook and Fantasia. He typically leans more pop and R&B but he works with all genres. Espionage is a production team who worked on a lot of songs for David Cook’s first album such as Come Back to Me, Life on the Moon and Lie.

  315. This is just a thought but it seems to me that if people are going to the race as well as the show they will probably wait until the day of the race/show to buy their ticket. That’s one theory anyway and right now it seems like a good one. Thanks for the number crunching kvwicks13 and the news from twitter tigervixxxen. As long as CK gets Lee and where he wants to go musically it’s great they are working together.

  316. Imkhemari. kvwicks13. Thanks for crunching the numbers for us here.
I love numbers coz they always tell a story.
Do you think though that the seats already sold are exclusive just for the concert or do they include seats sold for the race??? ( I believe it was advertised that race tickets are good for concert too — so just thinking out loud if race people will actually stay on to watch the show).

And about LDO being deserted, here are my 2cent thoughts – the problem is that there are so many other lee fansites out there (to name a few: lee dewyze fans, leedewyzesource, lee-dewyze-net, idolforum, etc ) and some have actual live discussions going. If only someone can consolidate all these sites into one, that would make Lee’s fanbase really strong.

  317. I actually don’t know who Claude is, but I am very happy and encouraged that he thinks the new song is “a good one”! And I agree with his take on Lee!

  318. I love numbers coz they always tell a story.
Do you think though that the seats already sold are exclusive just for the concert or do they include seats sold for the race???

Numbers are not for me neither is chart watching on a regular basis.

I am thinking that the tickets selling now are exclusively for Lee not for racing. that’s what I was trying to say above is that the race goers will probably buy their tickets the day of the race/show and hopefully be staying for Lee too. Here’s another thing. I hope his stage is bigger and he surprises us with a band. He’s been really tight lipped about everything so what thrill that would be for his band to be introduced that night along with the new single. Also I am curious to know if the whole grandstand is being used for Lee’s show or if certain sections are being roped off for his concert.

Oh and about the fansites? What is a good fansite where lots of Lee fans post? I mentioned this way way back but those boots Lee has on in this shoot really look good on him. The converse are great but the boots look alot more stylish and mature? I guess that’s the word I’m lookin for.

  319. At last some news about who he’s working with! That’s the first name we’ve heard besides David Hodges, I believe.
Good to hear he’s using the production team from two of my favorite DC songs-Lie and Life on the Moon-I love angsty music-probably why I’m so crazy about Lee, both his voice and the songs he writes.

  320. Just a small update on AP numbers, I just checked my crunching on numbers sold, and managed to get pretty accurate figures on the grandstand reservations. The GA reserved figures are still estimates (from the areas on the diagram), they could vary if better info comes in, but I’ve been very cautious!

Grandstand (pretty accurate) ~3200 sold out of ~5200
GA reserved (estimated) ~7000 sold out of ~15000 (estimated)
ie ~10,000 out of 20,000 available for reservation.

And that doesn’t count any of the GA $8 seats!!

    It’s looking really good!

I agree seats are selling slowly at present – in fact some grandstand box seats came available which is why I could get better figures. I also wonder if some people have season tickets to boxes? And, yes, those are also the race tickets for the day.

But I’m really happy with those figures! It will be a grand turnout if that was all, but I’m sure figures will bump, after all its only us twitter followers who know about the “new song”, certainly there’s been no public announcement as yet.

  321. About Claude Kelly and David Hodges, are you guys impressed with these names? I don’t know anything about them.

  322. Hmm, you can tell I’m an OTT fangirl when I get excited over the following tweets!!

Katie Stevens: #nowplaying Out of my Hands @davematthewsbnd
Mike Dewyze: @thekatiestevens im so proud of ur music selection
Katie: @MikeDeWyze why thank you hahaha wish I was going to Chicago this week

Now I know DMB is playing in Chicago this week – but what if they were referring to something more – that “im so proud” from Mike is just so suggestive? Co-write anyone?

    Probably nothing!

  323. I don’t know anything about Claude Kelly, but he did say “Lee is one cool f**ker”. Obviously, the man has impeccable taste!

  324. Claude Kelly, David Hodges and Kara D. so far that we know Lee has written with. These are the usual go to guys for writing with the idols. Now Imkhemari, if you are right about Lee writing with DMB I would just freak out. Thanks for the numbers update too.

  325. David Hodges and Claude Kelly have written many hit songs. A few that stood out for me:
    Claude Kelly-
“My Life Would Suck without You” (Kelly Clarkson)
    “For Your Entertainment” (Adam Lambert)
“Party in the USA (Miley Cyrus)
    “Circus” (Britney Spears)
    “Bittersweet” (Fantasia)
David Hodges(he used to be in Evanescence)-
    “My Immortal” (Evanescence co-write)
    “Crush” (David Archeleta)
    “Because of You” (Kelly Clarkson)

Lee has a great recording voice and I think RCA really, really wants radio hits-that is the biggest factor that drives sales(something I’ve learned from lurking at MJ’s since the middle of Season 8).

  326. About Claude Kelly and David Hodges, are you guys impressed with these names? I don’t know anything about them.

They are the usual suspects, I’m afraid. Kelly has had a handful of #1 hits. He pretty much writes pop music, at least his hits have been pop. He wrote on My Life Would Suck Without You, which I think pretty much sucks. He’s also written for David Archuletta, Adam Lambert, Britney, Whitney. I can’t even write those names in the same sentence as Lee DeWyze. You can draw your own conclusions I bet.

Hodges’ most recent work has been with Evanescence and We Are the Fallen, both of which have a similar sound. I’d put them in the rock category.

I want to see names like James Morrison, Dave Matthews, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson.

    ETA:

Lee has a great recording voice and I think RCA really, really wants radio hits-that is the biggest factor that drives sales(something I’ve learned from lurking at MJ’s since the middle of Season 8).

That is true. I want that for him, also. However, at some point all of the songs start to sound alike. It’s what I call corporate pop rock. Lee has a totally unique vibe and they are just ignorant if they don’t capitalize on that.

There isn’t an artist on that list who has anything in common with Lee.

  327. I want to see names like James Morrison, Dave Matthews, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson.

Amen. I’m excited to get a crumb on info, believe me I’m ecstatic and have a goofy grin on my face right now. But I’ll be even more excited to find out who else he’s worked with. It seems like David Hodges and Clive Kelly write some mindless pop and that scares me a tiny bit. I guess I just want Lee to have helpful mentors/writers/producers/etc. that fit the music he’s making.

  328. artemis:

Good to hear he’s using the production team from two of my favorite DC songs-Lie and Life on the Moon-I love angsty music-probably why I’m so crazy about Lee, both his voice and the songs he writes.

Me too! I find this news encouraging.

imkhemari, one thing the AP diagram doesn’t make clear is that the colored boxes are the second level. GA is the ENTIRE ground floor, not just the bits of purple around the sides.

After seeing what Lee did with the covers he sang on the show, I’m not worried about “mindless pop” writers. He’ll find a way to make the songs his own. :)

  329. In interviews and tweets, Lee sounds really happy with the way the album is going, so hopefully these songwriters are trying to write in his style and feature what makes him unique. I agree, it would be a waste to have him singing something generic and overproduced.
He has said the album is going to be “him” and that he is playing the guitar on it,so I’m hoping for the best.He had several songwriting and recording sessions during the tour without saying who he was working with, so maybe there are some writers more in his folk rock genre involved. I hope.

  330. Lee does sound happy about the process so far. I’m still optimistic…I’m a glass half-full kind of girl anyway. I have just been hoping for some different names besides the stable of writers the Idols all seem to have worked with so I’m a wee bit disappointed.

But Lee has great musical instincts and is very capable of making any song sound great.

  331. I’m so glad we have been able to keep this thread going with our Lee updates. I can’t wait for his new single and album. He has said from the beginning that he wants his music to stay true to himself. And he looks amazing in his photo shoot. He is one hot looking dude!

  332. shout out to all the #LeeDewyze fans who’ve been tweeting me. met & worked w/ him for the 1st time 2day. what a laidback, cool talented guy!

Sidebar: i think its funny when ppl think that cuz ive written pop songs that i cant write for Lee Dewyze>>read my twitter bio. thanx.

Two more twitts from Claude Kelly

  333. wjmtv I’m just looking at the the reserved GA, not GA in general, but I did wonder where they could fit the 20k they needed to make up the 41K+ for the May homecoming!

What I’m trying to check is whether I can take the ~3000 capacity in Reserved E and simply multiply it by 5 to get ~15,000 for the total of all the colored boxes ie Reserved E&W, Grand Tier E&W, Orchestra Pit, and Elevated Stage.

So if the Reserved East area is different in size, or is under one of the other areas it would affect the calcs.

Don’t know if this clarifies what I’m doing or not! It’s just that 3000 capacity seems HUGE!!! But all the fans have to fit somewhere!!!!

  334. Like those tweets from Claude – and kudos to the Lee fans who aren’t afraid to let him know what they want for their lad!

    ETA: Claude’s twitter bio says
I like the sound boxes make when I break out of them :)

  335. shout out to all the #LeeDewyze fans who’ve been tweeting me. met & worked w/ him for the 1st time 2day. what a laidback, cool talented guy!

Sidebar: i think its funny when ppl think that cuz ive written pop songs that i cant write for Lee Dewyze>>read my twitter bio. thanx.

Two more twitts from Claude Kelly

That’s funny! Hmmmm….wonder if he reads here?

  336. Imkhemari:

    ETA: Claude’s twitter bio says
I like the sound boxes make when I break out of them

    I can go for that.

  337. From an article about Kelly:

“While Kelly has frequently co-written songs with top producers who want to work with him, he doesn’t collaborate on songs with other songwriters from scratch. He considers himself a storyteller and thinks that sometimes, too many chefs in the kitchen, so to speak, hold him back creatively from getting out the full story he has in his head. Having had hits with both pop and R&B artists and working with country stars Carrie Underwood and Faith Hill, Kelly is also adamant that he not be pigeonholed as a hit maker in any single genre. He believes that if you match any great song to a specific artist and their sound, it can be adapted to country, pop or R&B, and it’s helpful when writing on spec to imagine arrangements that might work for a variety of performers.”

  338. Lee likes storytellers and I like the “adapting to the artist” idea. I think it’s cool to have one talent acknowledge another. And though we think the world of our boy, one of the things I like most about Lee is that he is adaptable too and admits he is learning as he goes. But he will also be true to himself and says the album is very much him, so let’s just do our job, and anticipate!!!! Albeit not very patiently…

  339. That article on Claude Kelly sounds good. As long as Lee is really allowed to be himself, keep his sound on this cd, they are making the songs fit Lee instead of Lee fitting the songs then there is no worries. I would still like to see him get the chance to write with some of the people mentioned above that really seem to have the same vibe as Lee. Either way I am going to be patient because I want Lee to have all the time he can to work on this album and make it something he is really happy with.

  340. This is a great thread! I am so glad it is still alive. My thanks to all of you for the information and insight you provide, it is very much appreciated. I am having a wonderful time here!
Oh, and Lee looks fabulous in the shoot, like a million bucks!!!

  341. Imkhemari, how many tickets do you estimate in the center pit and center elevated sections? I only started looking at tickets there once most of them were sold so I have no idea how large those sections are.

I think they are saving the announcement on who all Lee has worked with so they can have one big announcement. I bet Lee did get to work with some of his favorite artists. It will be exciting to find out. I don’t mind hearing that Lee worked with Hodges and Kelly because they are in demand and hit songwriters and they could produce a really good song together. I’m sure there will lots of songs to choose from!

  342. tigervixxxen, 2500-3000 based on comparing areas that we know about ie Reserved E and W, which are 3200 & 3400. This would vary if these areas are seating or standing etc. I’d really appreciate some feedback if you have any, it’d help me see if the calcs are good.

The secrecy round the writers is strange, just look at the reverberations of Claude Kelly’s tweet through the twitterverse. Such a good buzz. Must be one hell of an announcement, I was going to add – or a coverup – but no, Lee has been euphoric about the people he’s worked with.

I’m getting really excited for the single announcement, there seems to be an odd ‘convergence of coincidences’ round Dave Matthews (or maybe Jason Mraz?), Chicago, various tweets (Katie”s and Mike’s) and the timing of AP. Total fantasy on my part of course!

Is there a particular day of the week when singles get released to radio?

ETA At least Lee is working with the writers we know about and not just having the songs presented to him ready made! But I do think he will have his most challenging time coming up, up til now all the possibilities have been open but now he will need to skilfully navigate and negotiate to see those ideas reach the final cut on the album.

But I’ve recently been revisiting his Idol covers, and was reminded how very good he is at arranging a song to make it his own. With a good song he could make it big in any genre.

  343. I mentioned this way way back but those boots Lee has on in this shoot really look good on him. The converse are great but the boots look alot more stylish and mature? I guess that’s the word I’m lookin for.

I like the boots too but I still love the converse. But then again I am a sucker for a guy in converse. And I love wearing them myself. I own about 4 or 5 pairs. I know Lee owns a lot more thanks to all the fan gifts!

  344. One of my favourite song from Lee is Never There. And it isn’t really a folk rock type of vibe? Whatever genre he sings I’m not worried cause he will make it his own. I also liked You’re Still the One from Idol. That is also out of his confort zone but he managed to make it his. I’m just looking forward to new songs from him. Most important to me is that he had a hand in writing the songs.

  345. Imkhemari, are your figures between 5 and 10,000 at this point?

I’m getting really excited for the single announcement, there seems to be an odd ‘convergence of coincidences’ round Dave Matthews (or maybe Jason Mraz?), Chicago, various tweets (Katie’’s and Mike’s) and the timing of AP. Total fantasy on my part of course!

It looks like Andrew Garcia is going to be there for the concert, too. I don’t know if there’s any significance other than being there to support a friend but it’s sweet.

I’m also really looking forward to the single release. I’m desperate for more songs.

jennyI, Never There is one of my favorite songs, too. Love, love, love it. I don’t know why but I think it is a song he wrote recently. Wuli said it wasn’t finished before he left and they finished it. I wonder if that is the direction he was going before he auditioned. I’d love a couple of similar songs to show up on his album!

I’m warming up to the leaks made this afternoon. The most important thing to me is that Lee is happy with the finished product. If he’s happy, I know I will be, too.

ETA: I hadn’t noticed the boots before so I had to watch the video again. I didn’t mind at all, though. They look great on him. Yes, very…hmm, what’s the word? Oh, yeah, hot!

  346. Dlynne, I thought Never There was a song written by Lee recently as well. However, Ryan T from Wuli clarified that it was written long ago. You might find this discussion on one of Lee’s fan site to be of interest.

    http://leedewyzefans.ning.com/forum/topics/previous-albums?id=5908160%3ATopic%3A9829&page=3#comments

ETA: I’m actually stuck to the computer working from home. Its been two whole days and I can’t thank you guys enough for brigthening my dull confinement. :)

  347. Well the discussion with Ryan T was very informative. I just feel that Lee inspires loyalty in his friends cause that’s what he gives back. Also it’s a dobro on Annabelle that wmjtv liked so much. I love So What Now partly because of some of the instruments and found out it was sitar and tablas. ( my music knowledge would fit in these parenthese ()!!). And yes, Lee’s styles varies with where he’s playing, as we can see even with the covers he’s done, and in YouTube videos of him performing some of his pre- idol stuff. And I knew he did his own artwork on his albums, wouldn’t it be nice to see some on his new one, altho his album shoot shows that he himself is a work of art!

  348. Haha. aprilfoolish. I couldn’t agree more. Lee himself is a magnificant work of art.

  349. He sings, he writes, he plays (guitar, piano, drums) and he draws.
Is there anything his guy can’t do? And as added bonus he’s hot!

  350. And sings karaoke!

Well, he met his musical crush again! – evidently Lee and Joss Stone went singing karaoke last night (I feel like a gossip columnist but couldn’t resist posting this)

    @FBPCNYC
If you missed @jossstone, American Idol Lee Dewyze is performing NOW @VUndergroundNYC! Check it out LIVE on thevillageunderground.com!!!

    also @KrissyBalls (a Karaoke DJ)
You sounded great @LeeDeWyze! ‘Twas great to meet you, and no worries for next time, okay? #ilovemyjob about 4 hours ago via ÜberTwitter
    &
Can’t forget about @jossstone. You are awesome! Thanks for stopping by @VUndergroundNYC @FBPCNYC tonight! You were a nice surprise! about 4 hours ago via ÜberTwitter

Hmmm, wonder why Krissy had to reassure Lee?

  351. Imkhemari:

tigervixxxen, 2500-3000 based on comparing areas that we know about ie Reserved E and W, which are 3200 & 3400. This would vary if these areas are seating or standing etc. I’d really appreciate some feedback if you have any, it’d help me see if the calcs are good.

Those sections have permanent seats–like at a football stadium.

ETA: Does this pic help? http://www.jepara.net/wp-content/uploads/images/arlington-park.jpg

But I’ve recently been revisiting his Idol covers, and was reminded how very good he is at arranging a song to make it his own. With a good song he could make it big in any genre.

I remain solid in my conviction that he was better at this than anyone this season. I also think it’s why he won. Kris and Cookie were stellar at it too.

    jennyl:

Whatever genre he sings I’m not worried cause he will make it his own. I also liked You’re Still the One from Idol.

That was a favorite of mine too, but the one that really blew me away was “That’s Life.” I own over 200 Sinatra songs. It’s safe to say I’m a fan who knows what he was about. :) And I thought Lee did that song better than he did! Everything about that performance, from his phrasing to letting his voice do that thing it does so well, to the persona he brought to the stage, that was a real big night for him. At least in my book.

re: Joss Stone…one of Lee’s dreams came true last May. Looks like some others are coming true now. ;)

  352. To continue the gossip, Lee apparently had dinner with Joss too ;)

    Tweet from legendmg:
Awesome dinner with @LeeDeWyze and @JossStone last night. Amazingly talented group, looking forward to seeing/hearing ya’ll again!
about 1 hour ago via web

According to his twitter page, this guy’s a makeup artist. Although I’m 90% sure Legend is a fake name lol

  353. Imkhemari, thanks for bringing those tweets over. Maybe a video will surface! Lee must have had a very awesome night hanging out with Joss.

Your AP numbers look good to me, I’ll have to look at the ticket site closer but I agree with your estimations. Thanks for keeping track of them!

As far as singles, they could really “premiere” any day except Friday. Everything goes up for sale on itunes on Tuesday. Radio adds day is Monday for Hot AC and Tuesday for Top 40. The timeline usually goes in about that order as well.

I’m not a fan of country at all and I love the studio version of You’re Still the One. I know that was Lee’s least favorite week but it worked for me! lol

  354. That’s very cool that Lee got to hang with Joss Stone, especially since he named her as his celebrity crush!

I also liked Lee’s version of You’re Still the One. I liked the studio version but I also really liked his live version. In the live version you hear more of the raspiness of his voice.

  355. wjmtv I’m completely with you on “That’s Life”. I’ve never liked that song at all. Not Sinatra’s, certainly not David Lee Roth’s, not even Michael Buble’s. Lee’s blew me away though.

  356. Lee sure must have had fun last night-we keep getting happy tweets from him!
Lee’s performance of “That’s Life” was fantastic. The song I didn’t really like until I heard Lee sing it is “A Little Less Conversation.” I like his version better than Elvis.

  357. More tweets about Lee: VUndergroundNYC @LeeDeWyze thanks for hoping up on stage and bringing the house down! You were amazing! Such a treat! Stop by anytime!!!!!
VUndergroundNYC Lee sang Ain’t No Sunshine;) amazing! RT @_DoubleJ_: @VUndergroundNYC Thanks for showing us that Lee’s photo.

It seems like the world is slowing discovering what we already know…..he is AMAZING! Have you seen the video of Lee and Andrew singing Aint No Sunshine for fans? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHS3yPgL8Dk. Imagine his version last night……..
    And…..
ClaudeKelly Day 2 with @LeeDewyze and Espionage. Everything sounds like awesomesauce. This is not fiction.
ClaudeKelly U can sing, by the way. RT @LeeDeWyze @ClaudeKelly awesomesauce is essential with most things, I prefer amazingness sauce myself

  358. LeeDeWyze @ClaudeKelly Awesomesauce is essential with most things, I prefer amazingness sauce myself

LOL! good one Lee! amazingness sauce! ftw!

I visit you tube more than I care to confess. Someone asked who Annabelle is on one of the videos and WuLi said it’s Lee’s pet rock!

Lee’s take on Fireflies was really good. I loved all his performances except for one.

  359. ClaudeKelly Day 2 with @LeeDewyze and Espionage. Everything sounds like awesomesauce. This is not fiction.

    Heh heh.

  360. “A Little Less Conversation” is one of my favorite performances because he *completely* trashed the lyrics–he had a Gov. Brewer-sized brain fart that night–but plowed through with such ferocity that no one even noticed. That’s a performer for you.

I will forever be bummed that they weren’t going into the studio yet when he did Fireflies. :(

  361. Aw I love ALLC! It’s a bit throaty, but I love watching him perform it. He was totally feeling it that night.

If it’s not a sore subject, I would have my say my least favorite performances were Everybody Hurts and Beautiful Day. With EH, it was okay, not stellar. I loved how he was hitting those longer notes in the chorus. But the 30 person choir behind him pissed me off at the very end. The choir drowned him out on that last note, it was hard for me to watch.

  362. I liked BD until I heard his acoustic version. Then I said, “Why, why, WHY couldn’t he have done that one???”

EH was not a fave for several reasons–it’s been done, and there were too many mid-tempo songs at once. He needed another THLAL that night (well, obviously he didn’t really *need* it, since he won, but that’s what the evening needed ;) )Simon F goofed on that one.

  363. The producers really should have let Lee do BD his way. That was their fault for not letting him show what he could do with the song. The choir was totally unnecessary.

Do we think we will be hearing some news about the single in the next week? Or do you think they are waiting til the 24th so that Lee himself can unveil his amazing new single to the world?

  364. As far as BD, I understand why they chose that version. Sung well, it would have been amazing with the fireworks and confetti shower. It was still sweet when he sang it after he won, being choked up and everything.

Well if they announce something about Lee’s album, I would be ecstatic. Maybe that’s why Lee’s been tweeting every hour today! Lol he’s been in sucha good mood. Maybe its a sign ;)

  365. He is pretty dang happy today and that’s great to know! I am waiting to see what that tattoo is going to look like.

  366. Last we heard it was going to be on his right wrist/forearm I believe. Maybe it will be something to commemorate the show. Makes sense, it catapulted him into this crazy new life.

  367. I can’t decide when I want to hear the single. As awesome amazing as it would be to hear it for the first time at Arlington, if that means we have to wait longer, I just don’t know…..

  368. Also, it’s really good to see he had some fun last night with Joss and company. Hopefully some video of him singing will surface. All the great comments from the tweets of the people he has met and worked with are fantastic to hear.

  369. It’s great to know the writing process is going so smoothly. I guess he just works really really well with people! So that’s fortunate. Plus, he’s meeting all these new people that can help him in his career. It’s awesome. If he TPs tonight I’ll definately ask him if he’s met Dave Matthews since winning AI ;)

  370. We’re at 400 comments! Seriously, where are the emoticons? Do you guys have your own or am I just not seeing those to use when I post?

Good question cristististi, ask him about 20 times and maybe he’ll answer you.

  371. I’m posting emoticons! :D :) ;)

Eh, I don’t like spamming him with the same question. I think one time I sent him 50 different questions instead of just one 50 times. But I’ll try asking this one more than once. Maybe it will jump out since he’s such a fan of DMB?

  372. Hi folks, I’m back after a few hours sleep, I seemed to be here very late last night my time! Sitting down with the morning coffee to catch up on the day’s news here!

Lol Lee’s must have had a great night out! I gather the karaoke was live streamed but I couldn’t find any video on thevillageunderground.com.

And another great day today with Claude. The two of them seem to be getting on well – another bromance?

Arlington Park: Thanks wjmtv and tigervixxen for the info, it’s a great help. I spent some time also looking at video of the setup at the May homecoming, (incidentally getting thoroughly immersed in Lee’s emotional performances there! He looked so great and sang so well!) Unfortunately there’s a whopping great access road in and around the stage area which will put the available space down.

We do know that most of the boxes, plus some seats, in the grandstand are sold – that’s a definite 3400 but it’s handwaving after that!

I think roughly 6000 sold so far (not the hopeful 10000, but also there’s no way to get info on the $8 tickets so the total will be higher.)

Still good but not so glorious!

ETA I’m now done with estimating total seats available, that’s the best I can do. Now they just need to sell! And I’m sure they will.

  373. I LOVE hearing that Lee “brought the house down”! It’s time that everyone found out what we all know about the depth of his talent. Simply AMAZING, with a side dish of “amazingness sauce”!!! Go get um Lee!

  374. I’m posting emoticons!

But I’ll try asking this one more than once. Maybe it will jump out since he’s such a fan of DMB?

    How?

Hope you (we) get an answer!

  375. I type out the smileys. I’ll space it out

    : ) and ; ) and : P

Or you can do it with a nose the way some people do lol
    :O) :OP ;O)

Maybe it has something to do with your web browser?

  376. Maybe it has something to do with your web browser?

Could be. thanks for the help. :) I did not know I could put the sign for the smiley and then the smiely face would pop up. I learned something new today! LOL!

  377. crististi: I’m posting emoticons! :D :) ;)

I just realised that if you copy the emoticons into the “posting box” you can see the original. Here’s one I learnt from another thread – an oops  – hope this works!

  378. I like that about asking Lee if he’s met Dave Matthews, doesn’t give away if he worked with him but we’ll know. ;)

I’ve liked all of Lee’s versions of Beautiful Day but his rearranged version is the best. He clearly was able to make it “big” enough for the Idol tour, so why not like that on the show? Or Idol still could have had their strings with Lee playing it his way on acoustic guitar. I heard Idol didn’t want either of them playing guitar on their “singles”. I really don’t see what difference it makes. But I digress! I saw Ryan Star’s show last night and one of the warm up acts sang Beautiful Day as a cover and it was so wrong to hear someone else sing it. lol

I am thrilled Lee is so happy today, I’m so excited for everything that is to come. I bet we’ll hear something about the single either the week before or after the AP concert. It would be cool if Lee was able to unveil the song live for the first time.

    crististi: I’m posting emoticons!

I just realised that if you copy the emoticons into the “posting box” you can see the original. Here’s one I learnt from another thread – an oops – hope this works!

    copy them from where?

  380. one of the warm up acts sang Beautiful Day as a cover and it was so wrong to hear someone else sing it. lol

I heard U2’s version of BD today on the radio and it was all wrong and thought WTH is Lee’s BD they should be playing it.

  381. AIaddict: just as you did in the quote – it’s obviously not working for you. I wonder why?

  382. Wow! Such a happy thread going on so I’m joining in with you guys.
Anyone notice… when Lee is happy – everybody’s happy too (man, the effect our boy has on us all).

Thought about this today. Dave Matthews Band is DMB.
Lee DeWyzes’ (future) Band could easily be LDB ( I still so hope he will have his own band soon).

  383. Ok, AIaddict, you may now officially be Lee’s biggest fan!

    LOL! thanks, I’ll take that!

ETA: Seriously if I was his biggest fan my a$$ would be on a plane to see his show on the 24th regardless of what anyone had to say about it.

  384. it’s obviously not working for you. I wonder why?

Not sure, but thanks for your help. It’s not a big deal and like cristististi said it may be my browser.

  385. when Lee is happy – everybody’s happy too (man, the effect our boy has on us all).

    Yes, so true!

  386. We’re at 400 comments! Seriously, where are the emoticons? Do you guys have your own or am I just not seeing those to use when I post?

This is how I do it (remember to take out the spaces):
    : grin :
    : wink :

If there was a live stream last night, would it be recorded at the same time on the site of the live stream?

    Lee’s happiness is seriously contagious!!!

  387. Hot off the press from Claude

    @ClaudeKelly
How is it possible that @leedewyze, Espionage and i wrote another good lil ditty today? Life does not suck.
    1 minute ago via Twitterrific

    So Lee is writing!

ETA Dlynne, I looked for it earlier on thevillageunderground.com site, but it wasn’t there. It may turn up later, maybe once they edited the evenings stream? I’m sure they’d want both Lee and Joss!

  388. JennyI, thanks so much for the link to the thread. That was a very interesting read.

I am ecstatic that Lee had some fun last night…I’m even more excited people tweeted so we could hear about it! I really hope some video shows up.

Imkhemari, thank you for looking for it. Saved me some time. I’ll look later to see if something shows up.

  389. wjmtv:Ok, AIaddict, you may now officially be Lee’s biggest fan

AIaddict, maybe it’s time to reconsider changing to LDaddict??? :).
    So fun!

  390. This guy legend has a blog spot and this is what he said about Joss Stone;

“Joss is bad-ass. I gotta be blunt, that’s the first thing that comes to my mind when trying to describe her. Not only is she supremely talented, but her heart is really in the right place. She’s incredibly courteous and generous and you can see it in her already beautiful face.”

Now tell me, doesn’t that sound like Lee?

  391. It does sound like the girl version of Lee. I bet they had a lot of fun together.

  392. Joss has the most amazing accent. If you want to be entertained, watch her interview with Craig Ferguson. I promise it won’t disappoint ;)

When Lee is happy – everybody’s happy too

This made me ‘Aw’ out loud lol the effects he has on us :) Anywho, I’m really excited about the album (but what else is new) and I’m not worried about the collaborators anymore. Lee could sing the ABCs and I would pay money for it, so I’m sure it will be fine!

On another random note, I like unshaved Lee. ;) I won’t explain why because it wouldn’t be very family friendly lol

  393. rivermaya:

AIaddict, maybe it’s time to reconsider changing to LDaddict??? .
    So fun!

    LOL! :)

ETA: just have to say ROLL TIDE!!!

  394. Joss Stone and Lee DeWyze are both very, very charming. I hope they had a wonderful evening together.
I am really glad that the collaborators seem so stoked about working with Lee. They seem to appreciate and understand his talent and like him as a person.
Unshaved Lee, oh yeah! No explanation required!

  395. Dumb question alert: isn’t Espionage a band? Is Kelly writing for them too, or are they all collaberating on Lee’s song? He makes it sound like a group effort.

  396. Dumb question alert: isn’t Espionage a band?

They are a Norwegian production team/songwriting duo. Clear as mud?

  397. Espionage is Espen Lind and Amund Bjørklund. They do earn songwriting credits on the songs they collaborate on but my hunch is that it is more on the production/song construction side than the song (lyrics/melody) itself. So the way I see it is Lee and Kelly are writing together creating the song and Espionage is there to offer production tweaks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espionage_(production_team)

  398. Ok thanks. I googled it and got a lot of gobbledygook about spies, so I cheated and put band after it and there is a band I guess. Figured I’d come out of the fog for a bit! When in doubt, do a DQA! (dumb question alert!)

  399. I just woke up and found 430 response :). Its fantastic. Ya. When Lee is happy I’m happy as well. Have to ask you guys, how do you b-quote? I haven’t figure that out yet.

  400. You just highlight what you want to quote, copy & paste it into the box you write in, then click on the “b-quote” tab above the box. ^^Right up there^^ ;)

  401. Haha the box didn’t turn up at the right area. Its okay. I’ll get it someday. What’s age anyway? Its the heart that matters.

  402. Let’s see….I guess I forgot to say you have to re-highlight the quote in the box after you’ve pasted it. THEN click the b-quote button. Does that make sense?

  403. Okay. Clear. Try again.

Let’s see….I guess I forgot to say you have to re-highlight the quote in the box after you’ve pasted it. THEN click the b-quote button. Does that make sense?

  404. My pleasure! I can’t wait to tell my husband the guru that I actually *helped* someone with a computer issue!

re: Twitter parties…I can’t handle them. Too much mushy stuff. I admire Lee’s fortitude.

ETA: OK, I peeked. But only at his end. And I saw Tiger’s name! Which question was he answering…the one about today’s songs? Or Da Bears?

  405. jennyl:
    09/11/2010 at 10:02 pm
    O. Haha. Its that simple. Thank you.

    ok did that work?

I feel like I’m learning a lot! Altho it’s hard to think after seeing Lee at this photo shoot!

  406. jennyl:
    09/11/2010 at 10:02 pm
    O. Haha. Its that simple. Thank you.

Ok, hit the thingy up top FIRST!!

  407. Today’s songs.

I just watch myself, some Q&A are more informative than others!

The one about promoting the album soon is interesting – especially when he talked about the craziness waiting him in LA earlier today.

And Q who shut the door at the end of Slumberland – Answer: me

  408. jennyl:
    09/11/2010 at 10:02 pm
    O. Haha. Its that simple. Thank you.

    Twice?

  409. I peeked as while. I normally don’t have any questions to ask him. Will wait for WaterfallOWords TP transcript.

    Yay. aprilfoolish. You did it!

  410. And he’s going to sing So What Now on the 24th

    He’s in LA tomorrow

ETA I think he’s packing between tweets, they’re slow tonight!

    or eating or something!

or falling asleep – late night last night and full day today?

    Answer: Internet is goofy!

ETA2 I don’t have the short kind of questions myself and never join in. Most are too mushy for me also. But there are nuggets of info!

Claude Kelly is kick ass to work with.

  411. Imkhemari:
    09/11/2010 at 10:39 pm
And he’s going to sing So What Now on the 24th

    Eeeeeexcellent…..

  412. I don’t ask too many questions, mostly just tell him he’s amazing, especially in this photo shoot! Never got a reply but it’s ok, it’s not about me!! I like to read the transcripts of the tp. It’s weird some of the things he’s asked! Thank you all who showed me how to quote!! Now….somebody say something quote-worthy!! Lol hehehe

  413. I luv this group too, I second that.

Lee felt like a million bucks during the photo shoot but Lee is priceless. I’m oh so glad he tried out for AI. Otherwise it may have been a long time or never before those of us outside of Chicago heard of him, who knows.

  414. Here’s a quote for ya aprilfoolish:

Joss and Lee sitting in a tree… K-I-S-S-I-N-G

    Haha, I kid. Yes, I’m nearly 21 but I don’t care lol.

Never got a reply but it’s ok, it’s not about me!!

I wish more people shared that sentiment. I had a gigantic rant about this on LDO, so I won’t repeat it here. But in a nutshell, he gets BAZILLIONS of tweets, and he’ll never read 90% of them because they grow exponentially each and every day. He can’t follow every fan on twitter, and even if he did it’s not like the two of you would be bffs in real life. Seriously, grow up people.

Steps away from the podium….. lol

  415. aprilfoolish, as you requested. here goes….

    quote-worthy!!

    (just kidding).
Kidding aside, loving Lee’s TPs. Somehow it makes me/us feel close and connected to him in some very strange way.

  416. ETA: OK, I peeked. But only at his end. And I saw Tiger’s name! Which question was he answering…the one about today’s songs? Or Da Bears?

Yes, I did get lucky today! He’s answered me a couple times before but it is so hard. I asked him if he could tell anything about the songs he was writing today and he replied with just a :). Very cute though, he is a big tease. I enjoy his twitter parties too. He does respond to a lot of silly or shoutout questions but really gives great answers too. I try to only send a few questions, he’s answered my non silly ones so I just stick to them. lol

And fourth (or fifth) on really enjoying this group here :)

  417. Lol is a group hug in order??

I’ve only gotten one tweet from Lee, July 19th I asked if I bought him hot pink converse would he wear them. He said “YES lol y not” and I did buy him the hot pink shoes lol. I try to ask funny questions, so even if he can’t think of an answer fast enough it would still make him laugh. Gotta put a smile on that pretty face ;)

  418. Just watched the photo shoot video again ( looking out for the scene with black shoes ).
Yep, Lee looks more grown up with those black shoes on – makes him look more serious ( I’d say a bit more sophisticated even)
Though I still like the converse shoes too as those makes him look very laid-back and playful.
Just ” NO” to sandals during concert performances!!! :)

  419. Waah! Just realised we’re on to a new page! Love the group here too!

Number nerdy thing – I don’t tweet myself but set the timeline to record the numbers – about 1700 tweets this time, the last one was over 3000! Mind-boggling! How does he choose?

Lee’s so patient and warm with everyone. Just lovely!

  420. When I imagine Lee sitting down for a TP, I imagine him curling up on a couch, turning on the TV, plopping his laptop on his lap and just diving into twitter. Maybe a coke or a beer is on the coffee table. Lol.

He’s said tons of times that it’s truly random. I stopped creeping on his @ feed because it would upset me sometimes what people would say. I’m glad the thousands of tweets don’t scare him :)

  421. Man, you guys have been busy…I just left for a few hours to watch football (Roll Tide!) and I come back to 97 new tweets and like 100 new comments on here. I feel like I’ve missed so much!

  422. I would have my say my least favorite performances were Everybody Hurts and Beautiful Day. With EH, it was okay, not stellar. I loved how he was hitting those longer notes in the chorus. But the 30 person choir behind me pissed me off at the very end. The choir drowned him out on that last note, it was hard for me to watch.

Back to songs for a minute, I really like the Studio version of Everybody Hurts, in fact it’s my favorite studio song. It is one of the most heartfelt songs he’s done. I can really feel the emotions of the song thru Lee’s voice.
Here’s a good quote from Lee: “I want a connection with my audience in the sense that any song I do reminds them of specific moments in their lives-not mine…I want listeners to say ‘Wow, he was there when that happened to me.’…It’s comforting to share my experiences and know that all the vivid, raw emotions that I felt are universal to all of as human beings.”

  423. I like the song, but not his live performance. (That was one of the first songs I learned to play on the guitar!) I would argue that his most emotional performance would be a tie between Hallelujah and The Boxer the first time around. And I’m only discussing the live AI performances because Lee’s voice is so beautiful and rich on every studio recording.

I think I might give The Boxer an edge because he may have related much more to the lyrics and it made his voice all quavery and sexy (hahaha :)). His phrasing was beautiful as well. But then again, I’m a sucker for stories and I love the story of TB. Plus I can play that one on guitar too lol

My favorite studio recording is Simple Man. I have no idea why but it just hits me!

  424. I have always been a huge Paul Simon fan so when Lee sang TB that first time, I was like wow, I really like this guy! Good song choice and he sang it with such emotion! Little did I know then how much I would end up loving that guy!

  425. On EH and BD performance, I really feel like nerves closed up his throat a little, because it meant SO much. I mean, imagine the most important 5 or 6 minutes of your life! And it’s not like he was bad, cause I still loved it, but I know I voted the whole 4 hours and I had to work next day! But on BD especially, I just thought when he sang some of those sustained notes, like “it’s a beautiful daaaaaaay”, he sounded a little tight, not sure how to say this, cause we know he can belt them notes out, but that night only, I think he sounded a little pushed; maybe not pushed but not open? A very full week for him, maybe a little under the weather, and would YOU have been able to sleep night before? I loved the studios, altho concert BD is second and Regis and Cathy show version is first. I just remember Wednesday nights and the absolute torture he seemed to go through, I wish we could have all hugged him!

  426. wjmtv:
Group hug! Lee too! Why not?

By torture, I meant like decision time: “dim the lights”, probably the three words he will always tense up for, followed by “you’re safe” which will probably be his subliminal cue to relax!

Steps away from the podium….. lol

I’ve always thought a gift was a gift and if you expected something back, it ceased to be a gift and became something else. I understand wanting to know if what you gave was received and appreciated, but we should give because we want to make someone’s day a little brighter. Just like his tps, don’t try to keep score on how many answers you got back, just enjoy the answers he gave! Each lol and smiley face we get from Lee is a gift!

  428. Each lol and smiley face we get from Lee is a gift!

Yes it is. Makes me want to thank him each time.

I really like the Studio version of Everybody Hurts, in fact it’s my favorite studio song. It is one of the most heartfelt songs he’s done. I can really feel the emotions of the song thru Lee’s voice

    .

Its one my fav together with Simple Man. The live performance of Simple man and That’s Life was the best for me. I thought he did well in the live performance of EH and BD just that his voice didn’t come out as strong as his other performances. I always thought it sounded like there was something wrong with the sound system. Oh well.

The studio recording that surprise me the most was Kiss From a Rose. I thought the live performance sounded rush but when I heard the studio recording, I was blown away. It was definately not too rangey for him. I love his voice on that song.

  429. If I remember correctly I think the issue on Everybody Hurts the band was too loud and seem to drown Lee out. He would have been better singing that song just piano and guitar. Something simple.

  430. Not sure if this link is going to work or not but found a few more pictures at village underground of Joss and Lee. They are singing separately not together. If my link doesn’t work its on a website called http://www.exposay.com.

  431. Link didn’t work but when you get to website under search and type in village underground photos show up.

  432. there’s a PR photo of Lee from the Village Underground -> http://bit.ly/cQsXxi it’s clearer but it’s also off to the side :/

In the description on the picture, it says Lee DeWyze and Joss Stone perform at The Village Underground in NYC. Makes it sound like they did a duet, but we know he didn’t. Picture is clearer than other one and SO Lee, with his passion showing.

  433. Good morning to All. Thanks for the photo link ( great way to start a BD!)
I so hope some video of Lee @ village underground will surface soon – Can’t wait to see him “bringing the house down” (think someone tweeted about this).
Have seen his version of Ain’t No Sunshine during his auditon, have seen yet another version during a meet & greet with fans and us knowing him, very sure the one he just performed @VU is a totally new one.

  434. Number nerdy thing – I don’t tweet myself but set the timeline to record the numbers – about 1700 tweets this time, the last one was over 3000! Mind-boggling! How does he choose?

Do you mean you can tell how many tweets he got at the TP?

( I almost figured out the b-quote! First part was actually the quote.)

  435. stay4awhile:
Do you mean you can tell how many tweets he got at the TP?

Yes, I only worked out how to do it recently and used it the last 2 twitter parties. Its easy, set the search box on Twitter Home to @leedewyze and don’t update when a tp starts. It then says how many are there to be updated! So many come in that my connection runs slow so there may be a few missing.

Interesting to do occasionally for tps, but I’m more interested in the nuggets of information that come through, and in the general atmosphere of warmth and concern.

There’s another copy of Lee singing, same photo, smaller watermark, at http://www.lee-dewyze.com. Looks like a good time!

Wonder if Lee is going to the VMAs tonight?

  436. This made me laugh! – I was looking at this Youtube video American Idol Top 20 – I Gotta Feeling (its from before I started watching AI) and saw these comments!

    #vikipopova20 1 month ago
0:38-0:41 The guy from the right is HOT!
What is his name? Such a? cutie.:)

    #ImirriSyrinda 1 month ago
@vikipopova20 the guy far right in? the leather jacket? u mean lee dewyze, the winner of american idol?

    #vikipopova20 1 month ago
@ImirriSyrinda Oh…wow…so this is the winner of AI.
Sorry,I didn’t watch Ai.:)I found this video accidentally.
    But thanks for the? answer!
    *run to check Lee Dewyze*

He certainly stood out in the crowd even back then! Good omen for his impression on all that don’t already know him.

  437. I’ve been searching for Lee and Joss videos from Village Underground but so far couldn’t find anything. If you go out on Underground website or youtube, latest videos are from 9/5. So hopefully something will surface soon.

  438. Lee made it to 50,000 twitter followers just now!!! Let’s do the wave haha :)

  439. Runs and sees the magic number – it looks awesome amazing!

    ~~Wave~~Wave~~Wave~~Wave~~Wave~~~~~~~~ !!!!!!!!!!

  440. Imkhemari Thanks for the info (about Lee’s tweets). Like you, I love to see the numbers… I’m just not so great at all the detective work you go through to find them for us!

  441. Lee made it to 50K!!! thanks for the info wooooo!!! hoooo!!!!

    ImkHemari, those comments too cool!

Holy cow! I have to tell you guys what happened at the mall a little while ago. I was in the Star Bucks there waiting on my coffee when in walks Lee Dewyze!! Ok, not really, dang it! but the guy looked so much like Lee! Same build, same great hair, he had a beard but a little different, tattoos, the guy even had slippy pants on, LOL! The only things missing were the gorgeous blue eyes and a smile. I kept looking at him trying not to get caught because I was comparing him to Lee. He caught me a couple of times and probably thought geez lady take a picture. I almost asked him if anyone had ever told him he looks alot like Lee Dewyze but I got out of there before I did something stupid. LOL!!!

  442. Too funny, AIaddict! I’m always on alert when I go out–I live in a beach resort area and we get a few celebs here. Taylor Hicks was spotted right after he won and Jason Castro actually got up and did a song or two at a local bar/restaurant shortly after his season. I missed them both, of course. Lee is probably the only celeb I would really be upset if I missed.

  443. Is anyone going to Ford Day in Dearborn Michigan on 9/17? I hope it gets taped! From what I’ve read Lee and Crystal sing 2 songs each and then they do a duet. Great news about twitter :)

  444. Lee sure looks great at his album cover shoot-no wonder he has 50,011 followers!

  445. Yay, half way to our 100k goal :)

I know of some people who have taped shows in the past who are going to Ford Day so fingers crossed!

  446. stay4awhile That’s pretty neat! :) I saw you said Roll Tide a few posts back are you an Alabama fan?

I cannot wait to find out what that song is that we hear a snippet of at the end of the photo shoot.

  447. WOOT!! 50,031 that is amazing ;) 679 people in a week! I also am looking forward to seeing if the snippet of song on the photo shoot is the first single!!

  448. The New York Times published their Fall album preview today. They predicted Lee would be “shooting for the mainstream-rock middle on his yet untitled major label debut, songs sung in scraped voice about scraped skin.”
Sounds like they are expecting an angsty vibe.
The lead article was about Kings of Leon, whose new album comes out Oct. 19.

  449. Here’s the paragraph about Lee

LEE DEWYZE Lee DeWyze won the most recent season of “American Idol” by underpromising and overdelivering: He rarely appeared as if he might be the winner, which brought out the votes to make sure he was. Like David Cook before him, he’ll be shooting for the mainstream-rock middle on his as yet untitled major label debut, songs sung in scraped voice about scraped skin. Nov. 16. 19/RCA. (J. C.)

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/12/arts/music/12poplistweb.html?pagewanted=8 for those who want to see it in place.

I’m finding it really hard to have just one reaction to this – there seems to lots of things going on. Lots to react to!

    underpromising and overdelivering?
    like David Cook?
    mainstream rock middle?
songs sung in scraped voice about scraped skin?

Looks like a lot of speculation to me, like the reviewer JC had little to go on, so has made assumptions based on AI. Even the last phrase seems an interpretation of angsty (which we expected) in terms of the David Cook mainstream rock, rather than the change of direction from AI that we’re expecting. And it doesn’t look like JC is familiar with Lee’s pre-idol work at all.

But, hey, it may be us that have no idea! – Lee did say it was going to be a surprise!

ETA Who is the reviewer JC? The only one JC I know is Jambajim. Anyone know ?

*runs away to check* – it may be Jon Caramanica???

And how do people read the first couple of sentences – I find them really ambiguous and wonder if its because of my non US background. A put down would have probably reversed the under and over ie over promised and under delivered – so is it a back handed compliment? And what is JC actually talking about – performance/voice or popularity?

  450. “Scraped voice about scraped skin”-that could describe a song like Annabelle. Maybe the reviewer checked out some of his earlier music.

  451. I have no idea what that reviewer means. Maybe he doesn’t either. It really makes no sense at all.

ETA: I really enjoyed the article on the Kings of Leon, though.

  452. ^^ It’s just that somehow to me the “scraped” description seems to leave out the “soft” music we’ve been hearing about.

I hope he did check out the pre idol work – I’d really like to be proved wrong. Maybe I’m just showing my age and lack of music knowledge!

ETA Just checked out that blog – he seems to like the word “scraped” when applied to Lee! He said

his “Boxer” was listless and absent, missing the scrape he ably delivered the first time around

He also said of Everybody Hurts

Choosing “Everybody Hurts” for Lee was crafty; while Lee might never nail Michael Stipe’s anxiety, he is more than capable of rendering the song as one big gaping wound.

It seems he sees extreme angst as Lee’s strength.

  453. This is the typical NYT style, using highbrow language to sound disinterested and cynical. All in all the blurb isn’t bad at all, especially when compared to what this guy has written previously. I looked up his review of David Cook’s album, he wasn’t to thrilled about that either and he’s one of the ones who thinks David, Kris and Lee are interchangeable. So he’s probably assuming here on what kind of music Lee is going to make, thinking that he’ll make mainstream rock like David and called Lee angsty on the show so he’s continuing that theme. Still, nice for the exposure in the NYT so thanks for bringing that over!

  454. I understand the “scraped voice” description but I have no idea what “scraped skin” means.

ETA: AIaddict, after reading the review of the Top 2, I think it’s clear he is more of a fan of Crystal, although he doesn’t say anything truly negative about Lee, just that he didn’t live up to expectation that night.

tigervixxxen, after I read the NYT review, I couldn’t decide whether it’s worse to get a so-so review or to be left out altogether. I think I’ll take the review.

  455. Thanks tigervixxxen for your perspective, it’s reassuring to me as a newcomer to all this, I really didn’t know what to make of it!

I guess people will read into it what they want, but maybe “scraped” will intrigue!

Thanks artemis Interesting review – it really made me think!

  456. My interpretation of “scraped skin” means some sort of exterior that has been roughed. I don’t know if he’s trying to say it in a more literal sense like Lee’s persona or looks or more in a musical sense such as songs with rawed emotions. It works either way I suppose and maybe he meant to leave it ambiguous, which is pretty normal for the NYT. lol

  457. I’m now getting the feeling this review is ambiguous where (and because) little is known and this leaves people to interpret these parts how they like. And where he feels sure it’s more clear (though he”s probably wrong about some of it!)

LOL I do seem to read a lot into a little!

  458. Review makes me feel like I can’t understand English. Haha. Let’s hope that the ambiguity will get ppl curious enough to check out Lee.

  459. Whew, I just read all of that ny times guy’s reviews of all the season and the subsequent comments and I need some cheering up!! A few positive comments, but very few. Can’t wait for the album and some fair reviewing. I’m worried that if Lee sounds too different from what they expect, we might get some fuzzy reviews and speculations. I wish I could clone myself into thousands of adoring fans but I can only lend my support, which doesn’t seem adequate.

  460. I agree, it’s ambiguous, but also kind of intriging. Considering that the reviewer preferred Crystal, he could have been a lot more harsh. That’s a drawback about coming from AI- reviewers often compare a singer to his AI competitors rather than to others in his own genre. Reviewers are often bitter that their own favorite did not win or place higher. So, overall, it’s great that he was considered worthy enough to make the NYT fall preview.
To bunch DC, Kris, and Lee together is lazy-they all sound very different from each other. I always wonder if writers who do that have even listened to any of their recorded music.Reviewers who make that generalization tend to be fans of someone else on the show.
I think by “scraped skin” he meant that Lee tends to sing about emotional pain.

  461. lols omg..i check this site daily (along with a few others) for my ‘Lee fix’ and thought that the Lee discussion was a little low even with all these little sneak peeks from his album, songwriters, upcoming Arlington appearance, filming in Chicago, singing at the VUnderground, etc. and for a sec thought all the Lee fans on this blog had disappeared.

theeen i come back to this post today and there’s like over 500 comments!!! wow…took me a while to read through a lot of them and im srsly not gonna name names b/c theres way too many of u (which im relieved to know) but thnx to the guys who posted that info on how album sales and stuff work, and also that NYT article.

hate how they still categorise Lee with David and Kris when all 3 of them have such different sounds which is apparently so hard to understand. im curious to see what those avid Idol reporters think of his album as they seem to be mostly Crystal supporters. theyre in for a surprise! im really hoping Slezak and Jambajim have the same type of interview with Lee that they had with Kris where they discuss the album and the inside stories behind the songs.

I’ve commented on them in the headlines threads but i was so happy when i saw Claude Kelly’s tweets…love how Lee is making a great impression with these big song writers. he seems to be really happy with how its all coming together and i cannnnnot wait for vids from the 24th!!!

also still waiting for a vid of Aint No Sunshine at the Village Underground. searched it up several times already ;)

….Now just to add something on topic- i really hope they pick a good shot for his album cover. although Lee looks pretty hot in all of them. As i said b4..as long as his hair and eyes remain prominent- i’ll be pretty happy. although, including his Chicago tattoo would be real awesome =]

November 16th…hoping to convert some friends to Lee DeWyze fans. AI isnt so big here in Australia

  462. nabs, welcome to this thread. Join in the fun :)

PS: I didn’t dare to advertise this thread in the other threads coz I’m not sure if MJ would mind.

  463. Lee reached the 50,000+ milestone on twitter and we reached the 500+ blogs going on this thread! (or is it 500 threads going on this blog???- anyways,I am enjoying all these exchanges with you all) :)

Thanks for posting the NYT article. Same here , I do not know what to make of the article except that LEE’s upcoming album IS getting the publicity and exposure it so needed and deserved!
(It might be trivial , but for his name to be sandwiched in between the likes of Reba M and Rascal Flatts is great).

The only logical conclusion I can give as a reader of the article…

songs sung in scraped voice about scraped skin

….. would be Lee’s raspy/gritty/angsty voice (scrape voice) to raw emotional songs ( scraped skin – like hurting, bruised, etc)

  464. I agree, it’s great Lee is getting exposure from the article, but I don’t think any reviewer can change the opinions that have been formed thus far. People seem to either get Lee, or they do not (as difficult as that is for us to understand!?). I think the main thing now is going to be an AMAZING single on the radio/talk show circuit for all the people who don’t watch Idol and have no preconceived ideas about Lee DeWyze.
AIaddict Yes, I most definitely am an Alabama fan!
    Welcome nabs!

  465. I didn’t dare to advertise this thread in the other threads coz I’m not sure if MJ would mind.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some people are wondering where all the Lee fans went… lol. I know I don’t comment on the headlines threads anymore bc we’re talking about them in detail here. I feel so safe in our little corner!! :)

im curious to see what those avid Idol reporters think of his album as they seem to be mostly Crystal supporters.

I’m prepared for people to shoot it down. If they don’t like him, a record isn’t going to change that overnight. I think people like Slezak at least respect him even if they wish Crystal won. So while I don’t expect to hear critics raving about it, I don’t expect there to be too much hate. It’s just an album. There are more important things to do in the world besides hate on a musician that you don’t like.

  466. So while I don’t expect to hear critics raving about it, I don’t expect there to be too much hate. It’s just an album. There are more important things to do in the world besides hate on a musician that you don’t like.

While I hope your right, I’m preparing for the worst. Let’s face it, even when Lee has delivered stellar performances in the past, the haters still find something negative to harp on…like insulting his intelligence or attacking his fashion sense!

  467. I wont comment too much on what the NYT guy wrote because it is, after all, just a “preview” and not a “review”. I agree with the above posts that what he wrote (at this point, anyway) is not as important as the fact that he mentioned Lee. Even if it was not his intent, he gave Lee free publicity and maybe, now, some people will give his album a listen when they otherwise might not have.

  468. cristististi:I feel so safe in our little corner!!

    ……and not to mention: happy!

At this point, I don’t really care much what the critics say anymore ( but secretly still wishing that someday / somewhere they will eventually “get” Lee) .
What matters most now is that Lee is still gaining fans.
And if there are people I would so hope that Lee wins over, it’s not the critics but the radio DEEJAYS!
Hence, looking forward to a really good single!

  469. I love our little corner, too! Everyone here is “amazing”!
I am very curious about what these same “Lee bashing” critics will write if Crystal’s album does not live up to their expectations.

  470. A great single is crucial. So many Idol singles are flopping lately. The ones I’m thinking of are all Jive, though.I’m hoping RCA is willing to spend the money it takes to promote Lee. They got first choice of who they wanted to sign from Idol and they picked Lee, so I think they see some promise in him.
I don’t know what goes on behind the scenes in the radio world and how stations decide what songs to add. I was surprised as week after week, nobody (or at most one or two stations) added Allison.Maybe she didn’t have enough fans calling their local stations to request her song. I don’t think Lee will have that problem. After all, his young fans voted enough to get him the teen choice award-I think they’ll request his song.
As for Crystal-she has a lovely voice and a lot of talent. When we went to the Idol tour this summer, my husband remarked, “She sings well, but I just don’t like the music she sings.” He thought Lee chose better songs. If Crystal wins her battle with Jive and makes the kind of album she wants, I don’t think it will sell well.

  471. I am very curious about what these same “Lee bashing” critics will write if Crystal’s album does not live up to their expectations.

I think the key-word here is ‘critic’. They aren’t paid to stay in a gray area. If they love it, they will rave about it. If they don’t love it, they will lie and say they do or tear it to pieces. Quite frankly, I don’t care what any critic says. I want some new music to add to my itunes library!! :D

  472. I don’t think critics have all that much influence on music sales. People buy what they like, what moves them emotionally or makes them want to dance. It’s so easy to sample music online to see if you like an artist. I just want Lee’s name out there so people will give him a listen.
And I want his album cover to feature his blue eyes so people won’t be able to resist picking it up off the shelf at Walmart and Best Buy.

  473. Well said, artemis. My husband and I have said the very same thing about Crystal. While I do like her voice, I always thought her AI performances were cliche, sort of stuck in a time warp. I don’t think Crystal, or her singing style, cuts across a broad demographic.
I think Lee is more widely appealing, both personally and musically. I find his music more exciting, it just draws you in, leaves you wanting more. I could listen to Lee all day!

  474. It is a bit of a mystery on how radio works but it is important to have a strong single. I know there are a lot of behind the scenes things going on and a label has to invest a lot to get a song significant play on the radio. So requests alone can’t do the job but they certainly help, especally if a station is already playing the song. Jive has a good relationship with Z100 but it seems like they are not as strong after that initial single push, and that is what happened with Allison is that she wasn’t able to support herself after the label push. From what I can tell it looks like RCA is going to give Lee an honest push. So far the promo has been good and working with top notch songwriters, even if they are in the typical RCA stable, is a good sign. We’ll be able to tell a lot more when the single comes out and how they choose to market and push it. I’m excited :)

  475. Slipping back in here at breakfast my time …

A “middle of the night” thought about the NYT blurb – Lee was certainly rocking it out on tour, and maybe that is what the NYT preview is based on.

    windmills:
Keith Urban just sent out his new song which is a lead single for his new album due out Nov 16th. … Edit: Speaking of people who aren’t releasing their best stuff. What are you doing Keith????

I’m getting very impatient for Lee’s!

ETA I wonder if they may go the route of releasing a couple of singles as seems to be the recent trend – maybe one HAC and a more poppy one later? It gives them more options.

ETA2 Btw, just noticed Kris fans have kept posting on their last concert thread, so we’re not the only ones here to do this!

  476. Imkhemari, I hate to sound like a complete idiot but what is HAC? While I am in idiot mode I might as well ask what is ETA? I’ve tried making educated guesses, but I have given up! I’m new to this, sorry!

  477. Just my take anniem47:

    ETA = Edited to add

HAC – Hot Adult Contemporary – radio stations (or a chart?) that play a certain kind of music – not pop – can someone else say what they play as we don’t have such stations in NZ? There seems to be AC and lots of others as well in the US.

I’m totally new to all this, but am picking up the lingo as protective camouflage!

  478. No problem, please ask away! We are all new to this in one form or another even if we’ve followed another Idol before. :)

ETA is just “edited to add”, like a PS.

HAC is the Hot AC radio format. It is the second most popular mainstream radio format outside of the Top 40. They play a lot of the current songs except for the really hip hop or dance leaning ones and also some older hits from the 90s and 00s. It is a good radio format, they seem very receptive to Idols and are more pop rock friendly than Top 40 is right now.

Imkhemari, good question! I think they will stick with the one single and send it to both HAC and Top 40 but I am curious to see which format they will target harder. I hope Lee really catches on HAC because it could be a great home for him, it is tough for any artist to really get more than one hit on Top 40. More rock leaning songs seem to grow slower but have a longer life which is why they release them so infrequently. RCA also seems to take a long time between singles as well. I think they are going to concentrate everything they can into the lead single.

  479. Thanks for the definition of “scraped skin”. It makes sense to me now. After rereading the NYT blurb, I now think it’s fairly positive and maybe a little indifferent but I appreciate that he didn’t write something negative before he’d even had a chance to hear it.

  480. Maybe this will help, these are the descriptors from a music rating site called ratethemusic.com There are several other formats but these are the main pop and rock ones.

Adult Contemporary Artists Like… Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift, Colbie Caillat, Elton John, Billy Joel, Rob Thomas

Hot Adult Contemporary Artists Like… Daughtry, Nickleback, Train, Pink, Lifehouse, The Script

Top 40 Artists Like… Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Black Eyed Peas, Jason Derulo, Rihanna, B.O.B.

Alternative Artists Like… Muse, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer, Nirvana, Linkin Park

Active Rock Artists Like… Metallica, Alice In Chains, Three Days Grace, Stone Temple Pilots, Godsmack, Shinedown

  481. leedewyzecom

RT! @VUndergroundNYC @leedewyzecom We are working on uploading something this week. Stay Tuned!

    Who-eee!!

  482. Imkhemari and tigervixxxen, thank you for your help! I’m going to take a shot at the quote thing next! Promise you wont laugh! :)
I am so looking forward to that Village Underground video. By Lee doing that and being so well received, it makes me feel like Lee’s been “excepted” into the hard core music world as a serious player. Hope I’m right!

  483. And something’s cooking – Andrew Garcia is going to be in Chicago very soon – before the 16th it seems? A week earlier than Arlington!

Twitter is so revealing sometimes! (and I feel like a stalker! and I’m fantasising (how appropriate to call it fan-tasising when you’re a fan!)

anniem47 good luck on the blockquotes!

  484. Imkhemari, that is interesting, especially because it wouldn’t seem like Lee would have an extra week to spare in Chicago with the release date coming up so quickly. Unless, of course, he’s further along than I think.

  485. Dlynne, Lee has the Ford Event in Detroit on 17th, so will be away from LA for that? But Andrew going so early is another ‘convergence’ on Chicago for next weekend to put with all the others – my mind spins with possibilities!

Must cool down … (fans oneself!!!)

  486. Andrew is a nice guy with a nice voice and loves Lee dearly but I don’t know how good of an idea it is for Lee if Andrew starts showing up at alot of Lee’s appearances. Am I being selfish? I just think Lee needs the chance to get his career off the ground before trying to help promote a friend’s music.

  487. Reminder:

I just realized you guys were still posting here. I don’t care how long you stay here, but make sure you stick to the topic.

Please don’t use this thread to complain about the rest of the blog, or bitch about fellow posters.

  488. Thank you so much, MJ.

Imkhemari, I forgot about Detroit. It will be fun to see what happens in Chicago.

AIaddict, I get what you’re saying. I want Lee to have the limelight, too, but I bet it gets lonely. I’m sure Lee wants his bud there this time for support for his first concert on his own. Andrew is recording tomorrow in LA and has had some meetings that he was happy about. I hope things work out for him. I think he could do very well with the right material.

  489. Yes, I hope things work out for Andrew too. He sounded really good at the AI show and he was a sweetie when my daughter and I met him.

ETA:Watched the photo shoot again, I think it had to be alot of fun for the photographer to work with someone as unassuming and easy going as Lee. Also, watching Lee talk with his hands in this video is too cute.

  490. Lee and Andrew do harmonize together very well, which we’ve seen at some of the meet & greets, so you never know down the road, they may work together! But I agree that it’s important for Lee to make a name for himself first to get his own career going. There’s always plenty of time later to work with other idols. I know Siobhan had mentioned in an interview that she would love to work with Lee.

  491. Hello to MJ.
Wow. Would MJ be in for a pleasant surprise if she only knew that we are all kinda “bonding” ( for lack of a better word) in this thread.

So glad to finally know that videos of Lee’s VUndergroundNYC perf is in progess. Can’t wait!!!

To Tigervixxxen: thanks so much for all the info on music “descriptors” ( I am learning too).
So, where would you classify Lee’s So I’m Told or Slumberland? ( my guess is AC? but his concert versions are HACs, so???? could it be a mix between AC and HAC? would appreciate your inputs though).

  492. I’m not Tigervixxxen but I would agree that his pre-Idol albums are AC and I think his concert versions would probably be, also, but only because they songs are older.

I think of HAC as a crossover from Top 40 to AC. Or, you could look at it as the Top 40 of AC. The music is usually a little more pop, maybe even a little more hip, and a little rock thrown in there just because.

I am lucky to have a Top 40 and a HAC in my area, in central California, and they play very similar music. They both really support the Idols, too, so I have no doubt that Lee will be played on both stations here. His prior two albums are a bit too sleepy for my Top 40 station, however.

  493. I don’t mind Andrew going to Lee’s first show after the tour, they’re best buds! It makes sense. But I could live without another reporter asking either of the guys “So, you became really good friends with Lee/Andrew on the show. How’s that going for you?” as if they are the first people in the history of ever to become friends. Sheesh.

Lee’s gained 134 twitter followers since yesterday. 100,000 can’t get here quick enough :) I’m crossing my fingers for facebook once the album drops!

  494. Hi Dlynne. Thanks for your inputs ( I am so new to all these new music lingos myself).
And speaking of Never there ( AIaddict) – this is one song I never do without every single day! I still believe if it would have been Lee’s first single (with the right mix and all) , it would have been a “hit”!

  495. Lee’s gained 134 twitter followers since yesterday. 100,000 can’t get here quick enough

If he gets on average 120 followers per day. It’ll take 417 days to reach another 50,000. Arrrrrrrgggggggggggggh! Did I get my maths right?

  496. rivermaya:

So, where would you classify Lee’s So I’m Told or Slumberland? ( my guess is AC? but his concert versions are HACs, so???? could it be a mix between AC and HAC? would appreciate your inputs though).

I think his pre-Idol stuff sounds like John Mayer. So whatever he is, is where I would put Lee.

Did we ever decide if there’s a specific day of the week that they release singles? And how far ahead of time do we get to see the album art? It’s only a week or so, right?

  497. I agree that Lee’s pre Idol work would fit on either AC or the little bit more uptempo/rockier stuff would be HAC. Mayer gets a good amount of HAC play and they do play slower stuff.

Singles are released for sale on Tuesday, but we could get a single premiere any day I think.

We may not see the album art until they announce the track listing and such but the single will come with its own album art!

  498. A new HAC station here in Tampa just switched over from another format recently. I really like it so far, all music and no rap. Besides John Mayer, Nickelback, and other HAC favorites, I have also heard both Adam Lambert and Kris Allen on it, so they don’t appear to have any problem playing music by Idols. So hopefully Lee will stand a good chance of getting his music played on it as well.

  499. Ooops, for anybody in the Tampa area who wants to listen it’s 98.7 FM (sorry, I can’t remember the call letters right now).

I like the conversation y’all are having here BTW.

  500. Hi! Long-time lurker here, but first time to post anywhere…just seemed time. :-) Appreciate the nice group and thoughtful discussions. And thanks, mj, for this site, my “go-to” for all things Idol.

On topic – I just hope that the album cover is appealing enough to attract impulse buyers. Other than that, I don’t care much what it looks like. I’m just really looking forward to the single and the album. I hope the album has one or two hits, to keep Lee’s name out there, and at least 3 to 4 songs that I really like. Not necessarily the same thing…

  501. Never There could be HAC.

AIaddict, yes, I agree. I didn’t bring it up because it hasn’t officially been released. It’s my favorite song. Rivermaya, I think it would have been a huge hit, too. I suppose it still could but it needs a little more production work.

I hope we get that single soon! The suspense is killing me.

ETA: almitra, welcome! What I hope that album cover does is probably rated R. But making eye contact with those blue eyes would be really nice. Aside from that, I don’t care.

  502. Welcome almitra! I was a lurker until very recently, too! You’re right, this is a very nice group. I have really enjoyed the discussions.
I have seen some killer black-and-white photos of Lee, but it would be a shame if the cover doesn’t focus on those beautiful blue eyes!

  503. I’m suffering from Lee vid withdrawal. Can’t wait for this Friday and the village underground vids. I’m actually hoping the ablum cover would be the photos where he was sitting by the window. He was smiling there and look so adorable. Ya, a focus on the baby blues would be perfect.

  504. Yes, we must see those beautiful baby blues on the album cover! I too am going through Lee withdrawal and need some new Lee music to listen to. I have a Lee folder on my itunes account with about 50 of his songs. My 2 boys think I’m obsessed. I guess I am!

  505. Thanks for the welcome, guys! And I do agree, a focus on those beautiful blue eyes would definitely make for an appealing album cover! :-)

  506. And speaking of Never there ( AIaddict) – this is one song I never do without every single day! I still believe if it would have been Lee’s first single (with the right mix and all) , it would have been a “hit”!

I went to listen to Never There one day and realized that someone was offering a free download link for it. So I messaged WuLi and told them heads up that someone is giving away Never There. I can’t say for sure that me telling them had anything to do with it but last time i checked neither video for NT is there anymore. Hopefully that means something, like maybe WuLi will eventually release a third cd of Lee music.

As far as the album cover I say please focus on those gorgeous eye and hair.

  507. Here’s some information on timing of single releases for the past two AI winners (thank you Wikipedia and MJ’s archives). This may or may not be relevant for Lee’s single.

David Cook’s album was released November 18, 2008 on RCA. The album cover and track list appeared on October 14.

The first single, Light On, premiered on AOL Music (Popeater) on September 23 (Tuesday). The title had been announced on Sept 19 via an email from David Cook Official (DCO) and lyrics were posted on DCO on Sept 22. The song became available on iTunes on September 30. The video was shot on October 21/22 and released on November 3.

Kris Allen’s album was released November 17, 2009 on Jive. The album cover appeared on October 12 on the Barnes & Noble website and the track list was posted by Michael Slezak on EW.com on Oct 23.

Live Like We’re Dying was premiered on Z100 on September 21 (Monday). The title had been announced on Sept 15 and a 22-second snippet was “leaked” by an Arkansas radio station on Sept 16. The song became available on iTunes on September 25 (Friday). The video was released on November 6 on Popeater.

I hope we start to get information about Lee’s single early next week. I would be surprised if he debuted the single live at AP, so I suspect it will premiere online earlier that week, but this is pure speculation. Can’t wait.

And, thank you everyone for this wonderful conversation.

  508. I need to listen to “Never There” again after hearing y’all talk about it so much. Where is it stashed? I checked WuLi and didn’t see it.

Would like to add “a smile” to that album-cover wish list.

  509. Never There is still on leedewyze.com site. Just scroll through on the player at the bottom.

I do hope that Lee’s blue eyes are staring at me from the cover of his new album!

  510. Goodmorning everyone! And welcome, newcomers! :) I know this might be really obvious, but I would love to see him with his guitar somewhere on the cover. Even if it’s just leaning against a wall next to him or something. It would give the random shopper a vague idea of what he’s about.

I’m really glad Lee spilled a bean (just one!) when he said he would be ‘trying out’ a new song at AP. It kind of reminds us that yes, his album is coming! Even if it feels like we’re waiting forever, it will get here!

These next two weeks will be very very interesting :D

  511. Good morning. Though its night for me. If Lee is trying a new song on 24 Sep, it could mean that it is the new single and that it’ll probably get released after 24. I’m so excited for the 24.

  512. Also everyone don’t forget the 16th is coming up Thursday so we all need to purchase some copies of Lee’s CD to spike up sales. I already pre-ordered his CD on Itunes but I’m going to order a few CD’s on Amazon and give them out as holiday gifts.

  513. Two copies are in my shopping cart. Just waiting for the 16th :). I’ll be buying locally as well and giving them out as gifts.

  514. Just listened to Never There (three times), Use Somebody (three times), Bridge Burns (three times), and Beautiful People (twice), so now I can move on with my day!
In the photo shoot video Lee says he’s hot. That’s an understatement! I wonder if he has any idea how HOT he really is?:)

  515. Anniem47, I really don’t think he knows what kind of affect he has on girls, women etc. I think that’s part of his charm. Everyone that knows him say he’s as nice and genuine as he comes across to all of us.

  516. I’ve tried to love “Never There” for some time now and there’s just something about it that doesn’t work for me. Lee sounds great and I love the lyrics… but it’s almost like they’re trying too hard to force a ROCK song. Give Lee his acoustic and slow it down and he’d have me swooning I think. I’m glad so many others do love it though, gives me hope that maybe his new album will appeal to many different listeners.

  517. I’m going to order a few CD’s on Amazon and give them out as holiday gifts.

Yes, people are definitely getting something extra for Christmas from me this year!

  518. stay4awhile, I love the lyrics and the melody of Never There, but I do think it is way over-produced. I think it would be stellar if they backed off the instrumentals a bit. If it is true that Lee wrote this song years ago, he may not have had the maturity, yet, to realize how good he is without all of the morass.

  519. News from twitter…

@ainow RT @HerbAINow Just checked with Team @LeeDeWyze – still will be a few weeks until first single is chosen.

  520. Hope they’re not mucking Lee around!

And who is this team? Names please!

  521. I wonder what’s really delaying the release of the single.
Maybe too many good songs to choose from ??? ( just thinking out loud – just imagining that if Slumberland is to be his first album , it will be difficult to pick just one good song):)
At any rate, there’s still a new song to be heard next friday right?

ETA: does anyone know if Lee has a manager? Does all idols with contracts have a manager? what is the process of selecting one? Does Lee get to hire or does 19 do it?

  522. what a bummer. :(

I could be wrong but I thought 19E is managing Lee.

  523. Maybe those 2 songs with Claude last week were too good to pass up?

Also @blkeener @HerbAINow :/ Hmm…So perhaps he won’t be singing it at the AP show?
@HerbAINow @blkeener that was my initial question lol
so maybe no new song at AP!

  524. Maybe they’re just saying “a few weeks”, but what they really mean is 10 days!

  525. I think at some point during an interview or a TP Lee mentioned “his manager”. At this point the assumption is he is being managed by 19, pretty much unless we hear otherwise. His record contract is with 19 Recordings regardless.

I don’t know if they changed it or in this report “pick a single” just means “announce the single”. Either way I’m sure it will all happen in a few weeks. I’d still love to hear a new song at AP, even if it is not the single. :)

  526. When a single is released, what is the procedure? Does 19E negotiate with radio stations to play it? Do DJ’s play it because they have to or because they want to?

  527. I thought the record label is RCA and that’s who his recording contract is with.

  528. On another topic –

    Crystal convo on twitter
    @crystalbowersox @ginaorr CB.com is dying… Please a new page (with door to the villige:)…

@SIL_VI59 that website is a temp…. theres a new one coming soon ;) same url, but a serious makeover.

I hope there’s one planned for LDO as well! that website is so frustrating!

Also I’ve been trying to get into Lee DeWyze Fans for the last couple of hours to check some info but it has a “currently unavailable” notice up, does anyone know what is happening there?

ETA And to get out all the off topic info, It’s looking very likely from his tweets that Andrew has a record deal!

  529. I think if Lee could work his magic on Never There today, it would be amazing. Maybe someday.

I am ready to purchase my copies on Thursday. I hope it’s a great day for him. I know it can happen…Florence + the Machine was completely off the radar until she performed one of her songs from her 2009 album on the VMAs the other night. Yesterday the song was #3 on iTunes and the album had jumped into the top 10. It might be higher today. And I heard it on the radio for the first time today as well. Neither the song or the album was in the top 200 before her performance. That’s the kind of day I want Lee to have.

  530. I will purchase my CD’s on Thursday, also. I’m still not sure why this date is so important, but I want to support him in any way I can.

  531. Surprisingly, after all the anticipation of the last few days, I’m feeling philosophical about all the delays, it’s all just going to take its own time! So long as it means “success” for Lee in some form – either as a hit or as personal satisfaction – that’s all that matters to me!

(And that eventually there is music I can enjoy of course!)

  532. anniem47 I’ll be buying mine, too. I’m still not sure why either. I understand we want Lee to know we love and support him, but wouldn’t it be better if everyone bought on Nov.16 instead of spreading out the sales?

  533. Yeah the contract is with 19/RCA, it was announced that way in the press release. It is never really explained what each of them do but I think the common assumption is 19 deals more with recording and then RCA with promo and distribution. I’m sure they all work together though.

The DJs don’t have any power or control on what is played. It is the radio stations’ program directors who call the shots. And I also believe money, promotion, favors such as artist appearances and concerts and the like factor in. Requests and listener surveys have impact too as well as favorable opinion from the program director but for a song to really get going I think it does need some push from the labels behind it.

I’m curious to see how the album spike drive goes. I don’t think it will get media or anything of that nature but we’ll have to watch the charts and see what happens. All the preoder sales will be counted toward week 1 sales so no harm there.

Can’t wait for Ford Day too!

  534. I love the lyrics and the melody of Never There, but I do think it is way over-produced. I think it would be stellar if they backed off the instrumentals a bit.

Just a heads up, I doubt Lee will be stripped down (hahaha :D) very much on the record. This is RCA we’re talking about here! They love their loud instrumentation! I could see a Never There-type song being pushed for Top 40/Hot AC play, and while a lighter song (Where You Lie-type) gets pushed for AC.

  535. I’m just pre-ordering from Amazon that day (same time but its actually Friday here) as it’s not available yet on NZ iTunes.

At the moment the album is sitting at #16 on the Amazon preorder bestselling list (it was at #26 last week), hopefully it will be bumped up with the album spike. Those with a big increase go onto a “movers and shakers” list – it would be good to see Lee at the top!

  536. Just a heads up, I doubt Lee will be stripped down (hahaha ) very much on the record. This is RCA we’re talking about here! They love their loud instrumentation! I could see a Never There-type song being pushed for Top 40/Hot AC play, and while a lighter song (Where You Lie-type) gets pushed for AC.

I expect that, too, and I’m okay with that. The problem I have with Never There is that the production is front and center. His voice is drowned out in several places. It’s almost as if there are layers and the top layer is the production track instead of the vocal track.

  537. I will pre order Thursday too but are we sure that the pre orders count towards his first week sales? Seems to me they should count. That’s something I have not been really clear on.

As far as the radio stations we can request Lee’s song but we can not annoy the hell out of the them either. Idols in the past and I think Kris even now still does radio appearances/interviews and small concerts sponsored by the radio stations for contest winners.

    Ford Day is Friday!

  538. Those with a big increase go onto a “movers and shakers” list – it would be good to see Lee at the top!

Please tolerate my ignorance, I don’t really understand all the charts, but how does this really help? Does this make the program directors at the radio stations take notice of a new artist? Or is it just like “bragging rights” for Lee–something to be proud of?

  539. I’m not sure if it’ll get any media attention, but even a small amount would help keep Lee’s name out there until the single is released. I can’t see it affecting program decisions at radio stations at all.

But where it definitely would help is if the album is “up front and visible” if anyone browses iTunes or Amazon to see what’s coming up! This kind of exposure = sales.

That’s how I reason it anyway?

  540. It really is just a fan thing, I can’t imagine anyone outside will notice the pre orders. If a few people end up pre ordering the record who originally were not or just not sure then the whole drive is a success. Sometimes those movers and shakers list show on the front page of Amazon so getting on the list may increase visibility to other customers of the site. All in all it doesn’t hurt anything to do the pre order day. Or what Imkhemari said!

I agree with AIaddict, we have to be careful with radio because they are very wary of Idol fans going to crazy and spamming radio. If you guys think you will be doing some requesting I suggest starting now on your local stations with other songs so the stations recognize you as a local loyal listener when you request Lee’s songs.

  541. I’ve decided to pre-order on the sixteenth too. Being a fan is hard when it’s a waiting game, and we all just want the best for Lee and want others to see his potential. An album spike drive is something positive we can do, and since we all intend to buy his album, why not make a big noise by doing it on the same day. 30,000 tickets to his top three AP homecoming show went in less than 15 minutes. Not the same thing, I know, but it shows there is a lot of interest, we just gotta gather it all together like a bunch of PTA moms at a bake sale!! Lee sure looks like a cute cupcake in this photo shoot!!!

  542. On topic – I just watched the photo shoot vid again. Sometimes I forget that he is just 24. He is so very articulate, quite intelligent and just oozes charm. I find that to be a pretty darn sexy combination! Of course, he is also drop dead gorgeous! Quite a package.
BTW, wouldn’t you have loved to be a fly on the wall when he found out he was having dinner with Joss Stone? I hope he has a lot of those moments in his life.

  543. Finally the Vunderground vid. Thanks to all for posting.
I’ve watched it like 3X already and I’m still going WOW!
His voice is in this is so pure and soulful.

  544. OMG! can not stop smiling! Thanks to both of you for posting the you tube link! gaaah!!! I’m dying here! that was hawt! gotta go watch again!

  545. I think VUnderground got about 600+ tweets in a very short time. They tweeted Lee fans were great!
“VUndergroundNYC @leedewyzecom We are completely stunned by the response… although not really… Lee DOES ROCK!!!! We’re just happy everyone loves it.”

So nice to hear positive comments! I think Lee sounded awesome!

  546. My link to the MP3 is awaiting moderation. Yikes. Should I take it down? I thought it was ok since it’s not a copyrighted song. Anyone know?

  547. Seriously can’t stop watching the video over and over again.
“What is it about this kid’s voice and music that just draws you in!”
Album on Nov.16 is just way too long a wait after this.

  548. Thanks nabs.

My internet connection just went down – trust lee to overload everything! I think I listened about 10x! Oh wow!!! I can’t get enough!

  549. Wow, Lee’s voice is fabulous in the Village Underground video-It is great to hear him with a small band – I wish that I could think of the right words to describe-just wonderful to listen to- And although he is not dressed the same as in the album shoot- there is something about the “vibe” being similar.

  550. Not the same thing, I know, but it shows there is a lot of interest, we just gotta gather it all together like a bunch of PTA moms at a bake sale!! Lee sure looks like a cute cupcake in this photo shoot!!!

Haha! Love the way you put it. It sure can’t hurt to pre-order and we all hope it helps promote the album. Details here: http://a.yfrog.com/img838/1017/ors.jpg. And when your done looking at that you’ll probably be ready to see Lee singing Ain’t No Sunshine again! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1c3n4tDDV80. I can’t stop watching!

  551. The sound quality on the clip is excellent – and the picture too for it being low light. Really good balance of voice and band.

Let alone the man! Still the hoodie guy!

  552. OMG, I’m lost for words. wjmtv, you said it. Its got soul. This boy can sing anything.

  553. Bringing this over from the headlines thread

    girlygirl:
I prefer Kris’s version of ANS — more soulful — but Lee’s version is good, too– more of a jazzy take on it

Oops, being new this year to AI I hadn’t realised that Kris had done a version!

  554. Lee’s version sounded plenty soulful to me. Oh well, different ears will hear different things I guess.

  555. One man’s jazz is another man’s soul?

ETA Just a thought – a way to support MJ and this site!

With the album preorders we should go to iTunes/Amamzon via Mj’s links in the sidebar above – that way she gets commission.

A small thankyou for all the work MJ does.

  556. I didn’t realize that you could go to iTunes, etc. from here. Thanks for the information. It is so interesting how differently people seem to “hear” things- for some reason I can listen to everything Lee sings and feel an immediate connection with it. Someone else mentioned here that they just heard him singing from another room- for me it was the kitchen – and that was it- I was hooked.

  557. Brook52 – that was my experience also (maybe it was me that already had said it here, I don’t remember now!) His voice arouses emotion within me – and it comes out of emotion that he’s feeling himself – strong feelings. But its obvious that a lot of people don’t experience that, it just doesn’t work for them that way … so be it.

Interesting getting people’s feedback from outside this group on that next Lee thread!

  558. Imkhemari-Yes, it is when people have said they don’t get the emotional connection that I am most perplexed. But that is just the way it is for them!

  559. When Lee sings, I get high. Haha. That’s the only way I can described it. He draws me deep into the song. Its like I can feel the song and what he’s feeling. When Crystal sings, I just feel its pleasant. I don’t get that type of emotional high connection. So, I’ll go for Lee anytime. Okay. i’ve gone off topic here.

ETA: All the negative comments just makes me more determine to support him. Haha.

  560. i went to the official post for the ANS vid..saw all the negative comments, considered commenting and then decided against it..crawling back here. cbb trying to convince the big non-Lee fans. anyways..if u check out @VUndergroundNYC twitter..theyre so genuinely amazed with Lee’s fans and the support!

also a cool bit of info- http://twitter.com/ZOCIALtv/status/24543553213
    @ZOCIALtv:
“6th most tweeted VIDEO today || Ain’t No Sunshine – Lee Dewyze at the Village Underground http://bit.ly/cbzDdp

  561. Actually, I’m not even trying to convince non-Lee fans. I’ll just keep posting my love for Lee. Let them make what they want of it.

ETA: Thanks for the tweets. Happy to hear it. Okay I’ve gone off topic again. Sorry mj.

  562. Yes, so glad we have this fabulous album shoot to rewatch and hear the snippet of new music to come!…And love to get to share my happiness about any new recordings…I want to make sure my opinion is heard.

  563. I wanted to post this here instead of at Lee’s video since this is really intended for the Lee fans that I don’t talk to on twitter or have any other way to communicate with… I really hope that’s okay!

There’s a new donation drive going on with the Wyzeguysandgals on twitter, here’s a link: http://www.twitlonger.com/show/61u65r

In short, they are raising money to buy Lee’s album in bulk to send over to the troops! It’s gonna be awesome!

  564. Wow, you ladies were busy last night. I forget we are all on different time zones. Lee was amazing in the video. Hopefully it will still be out here later for me to download. I have to head out to work now and it was taken too long to download so I had to abort it. I don’t know how anyone could say anything negative about this, he sounded great!

  565. First I learn how to blog, then to twitter, then to facebook and now paypal. Haha. I’m learning a lot for Lee.

  566. So do we stay on this thread or do we move to the Aint No Sunshine thread?

  567. Don’t mind which!

If we did move to the other thread (once it’s quietened down!) we would be on topic for Lee and his music! Though I have been mightily entertained by the creative way y’all wove the album shoot into your posts.

And speaking of time zones it’s after midnight and I’m off to bed. See you wherever you are when I surface in 8 hours or so

Btw the Lee DeWyze Fans site can’t be found at present. Hope it’s not gone for good, there was some good posts on there.

  568. The only person who can change anyone’s mind about Lee, is Lee. All we can do is support him until he has a chance to do that. And I think we’re doing a smashing job! :)

  569. Ain’t No Sunshine is so good. Yet another side of Lee–I can’t remember ever hearing so much soul from him. So good!
I agree that we aren’t going to change anyone’s mind about Lee, they’re going to have to hear it for themselves. That’s okay with me though. Maybe I’m being selfish, but I would so love to see Lee in a small venue (and if I could have front row that wouldn’t exactly disappoint me!).

  570. Let’s head on over to the other thread when it moves to page 2…as much as I hate to leave the amazing photo shoot.

  571. I really don’t want to leave here. This is a very happy “Lee” place.
