On the eve of Prince’s birthday–he would have turned 58 today–the Council of Fashion Designers of America paid tribute to the iconic singer at its annual awards show in New York City, with a finale performance by Jennifer Hudson.
There is no video of the full performance, but we do have glimpses of it from the American Idol 3 alum’s Instagram account.
By the way, that glittery jumpsuit she wore? The custom KaufmanFranco design was covered in 1,692,000 Swarovski crystals. Nope. Not a typo. Over 1.5 million crystals. It took a team of 13 people over 1,000 hours to hand apply each stone and eight countries were involved in creating the look, including Austria, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, the UK and the United States, according to Swarovski.
Apparently, the organizers planned to televise the event this year for the first time, but it didn’t work out. Too bad, because the bits of medley we get here are pretty great. Watch the videos below.
