Those who attended NBC’s upfronts presentation for advertisers on Monday in New York City were in for a special treat. Jennifer Hudson kicked off the morning presentation with a rousing rendition of her signature hit, “And I Am Telling You” from her Oscar winning turn in the movie Dreamgirls.
It was recently announced that the American Idol alum has signed on to be a coach on the 13th cycle of The Voice airing in the fall. She’ll sit alongside fellow coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Miley Cyrus. And they all better watch their backs, because JHud not only sat on The Voice UK’s panel earlier this year, but WON the competition with her singer Mo Adeniran.
The singer dropped by The Late Show with Seth Meyers on Monday and described how emotional she got after the announcement that she was joining The Voice was made.
“When the news came out I literally cried, it’s like, ‘I need a moment,’” she told Meyers. “For me to come from a place like that, where once I was a contestant and then who would’ve ever thought that I would be a coach, and the chair’s turning around for other hopefuls. So for me…I was very emotional about it.”
Jennifer isn’t the only American Idol alum who will take up one of the big read chairs. OG winner, Kelly Clarkson is set to join the gang next spring for season 14.
