Jennifer Hudson Cries as She Accepts DoSomething Award (VIDEO)

Jennifer Hudson was honored last night at the VH1 DoSomething Awards for her work with the Julian King Foundation in Chicago. Julian, Jennifer’s nephew, was only 6 years old when he was tragically murdered, along with Jennifer’s mother and brother in 2008.

The American Idol season 3 alum and her sister Julia, celebrate “Hatch Day” in Julian’s honor, It’s an annual event when volunteers give out school supplies to disadvantaged kids. In this clip from VH1, below, Jennifer becomes emotional as singer Ne-Yo presents the award.

“It’s one thing to be a celebrity,” Jennifer tearfully said, “but it means nothing if you can’t help somebody make a difference or a change.”

Jennifer dedicated the award to Julian’s mom–her sister Julia, who was busy back in Chicago preparing for this year’s Hatch Day on August 14.

“Love is what we need in this world,” said Jennifer, “Continue to put it out there.”
