Jax Helps Promote American Song Contest with Jewel

Jewel and Jax American Song Contest

Tik Tok star and singer-songwriter Jax is famously an American Idol alum. But she’s stepped up to promote a rival singing show set to air on NBC with none other than Jewel.

The American Song Contest premieres on NBC on Monday March 21. The show, based on the popular Eurovision Song Contest features artists each representing 56 US states and territories. The artist list includes groups, duos and solos. The contestants also run the gamut from newbies to beloved legends.

For instance, singer-songwriter Jewel who released a bunch of hits in the 90s will be representing her home state, Alaska. Like her fellow contestants, the singer will compete with an original song. Check out the full contestant list HERE. Jewel also WON The Masked Singer season 6 last fall as Queen of Hearts.

Jax and Jewel have more than singing shows in common

But more than being fellow singing show alums, the connection between Jax and Jewel is actually label related. The American Song Contest will release all 56 original competition songs via Atlantic Records. And Jax just so happens to be an Atlantic Records artist. ASC co-host Kelly Clarkson is on the Atlantic label as well.

In the Tik Tok clip, which Jewel calls her “first ever” she apologizes for having to “slam NY so badly,” she continues, “But I had to take care of business and rep my home state Alaska & all its abundance.”

Jax boasts that her homestate, New York, “is better than yours” she continues, “Cause we got pizza and bagels and more. The Statue of Liberty. We got little Italy. Try and name a better state than New York!”

Jewel fights back “I think that’s sweet, but I’ve got your state beat. I mean a slice is nice but it won’t help you survive.” She goes on to brag about Alaska’s natural resources, “Big game and big fish and big mountain living.” And she’s got a point here: “Did I mention 10 hot guys to every woman?””

The two finish the song singing in sweet harmony “My home state is better than yours!”

It’s all in good fun of course. The  American Song Contest will encourage viewers to root for their home state song. The show is part singing contest and part sports-like rivalry. Eurovision has been popular in Europe for decades. We’ll see next week if the concept catches on in America.

American Song Contest premiers on NBC Monday March 21 at 8 pm.
