Is Simon Cowell Plotting an American Idol Style Revival for X Factor UK?

Rumor has it that X Factor may not be done after all, even after ITV cancelled the veteran series.

Think American Idol. FOX cancelled it in 2015, giving the network a year to plan a farewell season for 2016. On the series finale, a slew of alums came back to perform one last time, while the show crowned it’s “last ever” winner, Trent Harmon. Despite the teary farewell, however, producers Fremantle got right to work after the final confetti flew, to find American Idol a new home. And indeed, two years later, ABC successfully rebooted the singing competition, now going into its fifth year on the network.

According to Variety, X Factor may experience the same sort of rise from the dead. They report that Simon Cowell is plotting to bring the show back on another UK network:

Simon Cowell might not be done with The X Factor just yet. Syco insiders tell Variety that a return for 2023 is currently being considered. Cowell maintains a strong relationship with ITV – his new musical talent/quiz show Walk the Line will be shown on the channel later this year – but, with the show a free agent, a move to another channel could also be an option, with sources noting how American Idol successfully moved from Fox to ABC in America.

Reports spun X Factor’s cancelation as mutually agreed upon. Simon Cowell was ready to move on to bigger and better things! But maybe not.  If X Factor UK returns to the UK airwaves, would it garner higher ratings than the final years on ITV? Fans got pretty tired of it. But, with the show off the air two seasons in a row now, maybe it’s been gone long enough for viewers to miss it.

Interestingly, I noticed that the X Factor UK social accounts are as busy as ever, constantly posting content from past episodes, as if the show never went off the air. Maybe SYCO is plotting a revival.
