To celebrate the Idol finale, we actually have a concert to report. A sold-out concert from Fantasia.
This is the daily numbers thread. The place where we read the tea leaves and decide whether the finalists will be the WORST/BEST Idol EVER.
In other concert news, while going back to check some numbers from this day last year, I see that Idol started offering concert tickets for $20 the day after the finale. This year? Some of the concert venues are sold out already. There are still plenty of seats available at some venues, though and last minute tickets are always released the week before the concert. But, I wouldn’t count on getting a $20 ticket from the box-office this year. I hope we get numbers reported this year.
Speaking of reporting numbers, there is much controversy over Gaga’s numbers this week. Not only is Amazon selling her CD for 99 cents again today, but Best Buy is giving it away when you buy a phone. Billboard weighed in as to whether these songs will count. Bottom line, there is no minimum cost for album, but they aren’t going to count the ones given away by BestBuy.
Her label has shipped 2.1M copies of the album (double platinum out the door) and UMG is predicting 800-850K in sales this week. Some others are predicting higher numbers. Billboard.
