UPDATE: Currently Scotty’s single “I Love You This Big” is #2 overall and #1 country on iTunes. Lauren Alaina’s “Like My Mother Does” is #4 overall and #2 country. Scotty’s season compilation album is #2 on the overall album chart, #1 on country. Lauren’s compilation album is #8 on the overall album chart, #3 country.
The finale singles from Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery are now available for download from iTunes. You can also download compilations of their performances from across the season.
Scotty and Lauren aren’t stuck with “No Boundaries” level of suckitude here. But, make no mistake, “Like My Mother Does” and “I Love You This Big” have the familiar characteristics of an Idol coronation single–they are Big Ballads, with Big Key Changes and corny lyrics.

- Lauren Alaina – “Like My Mother Does” – Lauren definitely got the better deal song-wise. Sure, it’s a Kristy Lee Cook castoff, but the melody is memorable, and it fits Lauren’s personality and age. Lauren is the 3rd singer to record this song, maybe #3 is the charm.
- Scotty McCreery – “I Love You This Big” – Trite lyrics and a melody that doesn’t stick–Scotty is saddled with a dog of a tune. It’ll be interesting to see if if the song gets more than a few courtesy spins at country radio.
