Erika Van Pelt talks “Idol” – In a way, Erika Van Pelt’s concert at Mohegan Sun is a return visit. Being part of the “American Idol” tour brings her back to the Sun, a place where she did what she calls random gigs over the years. The 26-year-old South Kingston, R.I., resident had worked at both the Sun and Foxwoods Resort Casino, DJing and performing with her band. Back then, she was at smaller venues like the Sun’s Wolf Den and Lucky’s Lounge. On Sunday, she’ll be singing in the 10,000-seat Arena. “Yeah, what the heck,” she laughs. “I love it.” – Read more at The Day

Chris Richardson on His Long, Strange Trip From ‘American Idol’ to Cash Money – When you think of Cash Money Records, the likes of Lil Wayne, Drake, Jay Sean and Nicki Minaj come to mind along with the label’s irrefutable influence on hip-hop. But to American Idol season six finalist Chris Richardson, it simply represents home. “I never thought I would be with this label,” says Richardson, who was envisioned as a pop artist when he first competed on Idol and often compared to Justin Timberlake by then judges Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul. “I got a chance to meet everybody [at Cash Money], and I think it’s all comraderie — brother and sisterhood. It reminds me of a high school clique, where all your friends hang out and support each other.” – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

Carrie Underwood Has Big Plans for ‘Blown Away’ Tour – Before she does that, however, she’ll concentrate on her United States and Canadian dates on her “Blown Away” tour, which kicks off on Sept. 14 in Manchester, New Hampshire. Appearing with her as opening act will be rising star Hunter Hayes. She told reporters that fans just might see some collaborations between the two on stage. Also, look for a few wardrobe changes. Underwood promises “A lot of very dramatic costume changes. No two shows will be the same as far as what I wear and when I wear it. I like to have options,” she said with a smile.

Sparks excited about new ‘Idol’ duo Minaj & Urban – Jordin Sparks is excited about the choices for “American Idol” judges. “I think Nicki [Minaj] would be great,” the show’s former winner told us Monday at the US Open. “It would be so fun to see what she does because she’s so unpredictable. I met her the other day, and she is so sweet.” Sparks is also a Keith Urban fan. “I think it would be cool to bring somebody with a country flair who has that experience,” she said. Stanley Tucci, wife Felicity Blunt and Zach Braff, who sat in the Heineken suite, also attended. Anna Wintour stayed late to watch Roger Federer play. – Read more at The New York Post

Jennifer Hudson set for ‘Smash’ – Jennifer Hudson has been hard at work filming her guest appearance on “Smash.” She recently did a scene — supposedly in her character’s Central Park South apartment — at the home of Ian Reisner and Mati Weiderpass, the couple who built the soon-to-open gay urban resort The Out NYC on West 42nd Street. “Jennifer looked great,” said a spy. “She was super- friendly.” After the shoot, the “Dreamgirls” star dined with former French Vogue editor Joan Buck at the resort’s restaurant, Ktchn. – Read more at The New York Post
