Country stars take the field for cancer research – NASHVILLE — Lauren Alaina, a four-year veteran of City of Hope’s annual celebrity softball game at CMA Music Festival, was scouting the rookie talent: “I’m ready to see some Danielle Bradbery and Jamie Lynn Spears.” Team Opry played Team iHeart at Herschel Greer Stadium, home of the minor-league Nashville Sounds, Saturday morning, raising money for City of Hope, a California-based cancer research and treatment center. The teams included Alaina, Florida Georgia Line, Sara Evans, Scotty McCreery, Dustin Lynch and several other country singers — not all of whom had much experience playing softball. – Read more at USA Today

Phillip Phillips calls new album ’20 times better’ than his debut – “I’m getting people to really see how I feel about making music,” Phillips says. “I had more time to really make this second album than I did the first one. The first one was done in three weeks. It was really fast. This album is 20 times better than the first. There was more care put to it and a little more heart,” Phillips says. The record, which debuted impressively at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 last month, represents the gamut of his emotions, sadness to happiness to love, he says. – Read more at STLToday
