Idol Headlines for 5/8/15

The Amazing Race Final Four head to Peru 8/7c PM CBS.

Kelly Clarkson forced to cancel her show in Sydney due to continued health concerns – The onetime American Idol winner’s management said the last minute decision to cancel a concert at The Star was made on advice from doctors after the 33-year-old contracted “acute viral laryngitis.” In a statement, Clarkson apologised to fans and said she was “bummed” after enjoying her time in Australia. “I’m so sorry to all my fans that have purchased tickets for my show tonight. I’m so bummed that I can’t sing for you after having such a great week back here in Australia,” she said. “Despite resting and taking advice from the doctors, I have not been able to make enough steps in my recovery that would allow me to sing tonight. I hope I can make it up to (my fans) soon.” – Read more at Daily Telegraph

Adam Lambert’s New High: Inside the Powerhouse Belter’s Latest Reinvention – “I’ve been out here since 2001,” he says. “And that’s the thing: There’s a very fine line between the temptations and the excesses and the pure joy of being an adult in a city full of very competitive, creative people. I’ve been on both sides of it, where it’s blown up in my face and been painful, and I’ve also had wild adventures out here.” Lambert signed to Warner Bros. last year and re-teamed with pop super-producers Max Martin and Shellback, who co-wrote Lambert’s first post-Idol hit, “Whataya Want From Me.” This wasn’t a simple reunion, though; Martin and Shellback had definite ideas about where Lambert should take his artistry next. – Read more at RollingStone

Jordin Sparks’ Upcoming Album Proves She’s Way Past Her Jason Derulo Days – “There’s a ’90s R&B influence in there, a pop influence, the rhythmic, urban influence. The overall tone is feelings,” she says, noting that she recorded the album before, during, and after “the breakup.” Whenever she says “the breakup,” she says it with a thud. Jordin knows everyone still talks about her split from Jason, but in her mind, she’s far beyond that period of her life, even if it was less than a year ago. Jordin, 25, is living on her own in Los Angeles, a venture she never thought would happen considering she grew up near her mother, who “lived right around the corner,” and her grandmother, who lived “two minutes down the road.” Living on her own has done wonders for Jordin’s sense of freedom and adventure. She’s making new friends, such as Amber Riley of Glee, and finding inspiration while hiking, exploring her neighborhood, and scoping out “go-to” spots. – Read more at VH1

Paula Abdul Signs With ICM Partners (Exclusive) – Paula Abdul has signed with ICM Partners, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned. The pop star-turned-reality judge will next serve on the panel of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, whose 12th season premieres in June, after serving as head judge on the format’s Australian version. She was, of course, Simon Cowell’s original foil on American Idol and after eight seasons left to launch CBS’ Live to Dance. She returned to Fox in 2011 to judge one season of The X Factor. – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

Nigel Lythgoe on Simon Cowell: My pal needs to slow down and stop smoking – “I really worry he will end up like me. He works too hard,” says Nigel. “Simon needs to calm down and give up smoking. “He will still manage to take over the world but it will just take him a bit longer. “He is a remarkable man. I have known him for many years but I had a heart attack while I was editing the second series of American Idol. It made me realise how vulnerable I am. “Hopefully the pacemaker and defibrillator will keep me alive. And I don’t smoke any more. But I do hope Simon slows down and takes it a bit easier.” – Read more at Mirror.co.uk

CBS fixes fine print on Survivor Second Chance fan voting rules – A source close to the show informs me that the language in the terms and conditions was mistakenly added in by someone on the network’s legal team. The good news? It’s now gone. The text now reads, “The public will decide who from amongst the nominees presented will become the Fall 2015 Survivor cast.” CBS also released a statement to EW on the matter, and managed to have a bit of fun with it in the process: “We voted the lawyers off of the island. The language has been corrected. It’s only the fans’ vote that counts. Always has been.” – Read more at Entertainment Weekly.com
