Labor Day Telethon That Jerry Lewis Memorably Ran Pulls Plug – NEW YORK (AP) — The Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon is ending its annual Labor Day telethon, a television tradition for decades that has slowly disappeared from view since the sudden end of Jerry Lewis’ role as host following the 2010 show. The telethon was a relic from a different age, a tuxedoed Lewis oozing show biz schmaltz and hosting stars from Frank Sinatra to Jennifer Lopez over 45 years, pushing through his exhaustion to sing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” as a tote board rang up millions of dollars in donations. From 21 and a half hours in Lewis’ final year, the show had been reduced two hours the last two years on ABC. “It’s not a 21-hour world anymore,” said Steve Ford, MDA executive vice president, on Friday. – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

Adam Lambert’s ‘Ghost Town’ Is Just The ‘Tip Of The Iceberg’ Of What’s To Come – “I kind of started trying to observe how my friends and I out here in LA, what we had in common, what we were going through, what kind of heartaches and what kind of triumphs and what kind of thrills we all wanted…” he said. “There are so many ways in which we are all different, we have different races and genders and religions and sexual orientations, but at the heart of it, a lot of us are looking for the same things and getting hurt in the same way and that’s what I like about the album.” – Read more at MTV

There’s no place like home for East Brunswick’s Jax – Q: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR JOURNEY SO FAR? JAX: It’s a roller coaster. No complaints. As crazy as it gets and as exhausting as it is because we are always working, I will look back on this and regret every minute I might have been annoyed or complaining. It’s so beautiful. The journey is insane. It’s incredible walking out of the Idol bubble and seeing what is real. And have people fan girl over you, we feel like this is not even real life. Definitely, it’s a dream. We are just people. I mean, I burp my ABCs. We all hang out and we are family. And then we walk out — and we are all we know right now — we get out and it’s like ‘Oh my gosh, these people think we are something.’ We are not in the real world while this is happening. All we see is each other and the band and the Idol people here, so walking out and having people recognize us is freaky. – Read more at MyCentralNewJersey

Tyanna Jones on ‘American Idol’ Exit: ‘It Was My Time to Go Home’ – Looking back at the highlights of her time on Idol, Jones recalled being in the top 48: “It was my first time performing in front of an audience where people paid to see you, at the House of Blues. That was the moment where I knew I really, really loved this. I’ve always loved singing, but I only did it at my church. Doing it in front of an audience and seeing their feedback was the highlight.” Turning to the future, Jones said she’s excited about going to 38 cities on the summer tour. “It’s going to be with the four amazing people who are here right now. Even the few days I’m going to be away from them, I’m going to miss them so much.” Jones loves the idea of being on the road and has plenty of travel experience. “Our church goes on a trip every year. We rent two vans and pile into them. We’ve been to New York, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Chicago.” – Read more at Billboard

Jordin Sparks on Loving Her Body & Always Ordering Dessert – Are you seeing someone these days? How does he make you feel great? It’s not necessarily the relationship, because there are lots of people who can be in a relationship and not feel confident at all. How Clay Aiken Turned His ‘American Idol’ Loss Into A Bid For Congress – “I think I realized over the years that sometimes being in Congress is less effective than not being in Congress,” he said. Aiken’s biggest causes are education and campaign funding. When asked if gay rights were part of his platform, Aiken replied with a diplomatic, “I’ve gotta run to represent everybody in the district.” He sees two forms of activism as important: advocacy and normalization. “I appreciate those folks like Michelangelo Signorile and Dan Savage, the people who have been the squeaky wheel to get the grease,” he said. “But at the same time, you also have to have people who remind us everyday that I’m just like the person next door. In my opinion, Ellen DeGeneres and Neil Patrick Harris Harris have probably been two of the most impactful people when it comes to promoting gay rights … They allow people to see they’re no different than anybody else.” – Read more at Huffington Post
