Clark Beckham credits Lee University prep for ‘Idol’ success (videos) – Clark Beckham had already enrolled in grad school at Lee University and was set to be the student director of Lee’s Campus Choir when he auditioned for “American Idol” in Nashville last summer. Jacksonville’s Tyanna Jones eager to learn from Kelly Clarkson, the first ‘American Idol’ – Tyanna Jones sounded particularly enthusiastic in a brief telephone interview Tuesday from Los Angeles. The reason? The “American Idol” contestant from Jacksonville was getting ready to shoot her segment with Kelly Clarkson, who is serving as mentor to contestants on this week’s episode of the show on Fox. The singer is a real inspiration to Jones. Clarkson is sometimes referred to as “The Original American Idol.” She has had a very successful career as a singer and songwriter since winning the first season of “American Idol” in 2002. Three of Clarkson’s albums have gone to No. 1 on the Billboard charts. “When I think about how far she has come,” Jones said, “I think that one day that could be me.
