Katherine Winston reflects on her ‘American Idol’ moment – “Honestly, I never expected to get as far as I did” she admitted. “I have absolutely no negative feelings toward the show. I gained so much experience and confidence. I’ve grown so much as an artist and a person. It was an amazing experience.” That’s one way to describe it. It was also, by Winston’s own admission, enormously nerve-wracking, tension-filled and, for brief bursts of time, triumphant. The auditions were the epitome of hurry up and wait. Contestants got 90 seconds to present their songs. But a vast majority of auditions featured dozens or hundreds of performers. – Read more at Berkshire Eagle.com

American Idol mentor Boy George picks the frontrunners of the Top 9 – The two winning performances last night were Jax and Clark. They’re two real musicians in terms of playing. When I talked to Jax about her song, “You Give Love a Bad Name,” she got very eloquent; she knows her stuff. She’s a very knowledgeable person in terms of music, and so is Clark. But that can sometimes get in the way—you can start to get intellectual rather than emotional, and that can be dangerous. I told Clark I would lower the key on “Every Breath You Take.” But he ignored me! Some singers, when you put them under stress, and you challenge them, they excel. I went up to him after and said, I was wrong, because you nailed it. It could have gone either way, and he absolutely nailed it. And I think that Joey forgot what we told her. My advice to her was to give “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” more notes, to not sing it in a linear way. But I think she just got nervous. And Rayvon, he’s a technician, a singing teacher, and a perfectionist. He won’t take risks. He’s got a beautiful voice, so while he may not win this show, he can have a great career. – Read more at Entertainment Weekly.com

‘American Idol’ Behind the Scenes: 6 Things Fans Didn’t See From Wednesday’s Episode – Asked what it was like working with a group of singers where none of them were alive when “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me” became Culture Club’s first hit, George replied, “I’d say, ‘You need to listen to Sly Stone’ and they’d say, ‘Who’s that?’ That’s shocking to me because when I was their age and younger, I was listening to Bessie Smith and Dinah Washington and artists from the ’30s and ’40s. Now we have this great tool called the Internet. Go home and Google! What was interesting for me was how some of them listened and improved their performance because of what Scott and I said to them. It was a real pleasure to stand in the room with them and listen to them sing.” When asked what he thought of Joey Cook, who obviously had a special affinity for him, George responded, “I told Joey she’s like the girls I used to hang out with in school. She embodies the new romantic spirit of the ’80s. She’s very individual. I really liked her.” – Read more at Billboard

Fresh, a winner was picked from each rhyming duel. While Bristowe didn’t hand out any roses to the amateur rappers, she did take them out to a celebratory afterparty following the competition. – Read more at US Magazine
