‘Idol’ cut for spilling beans

An “American Idol” contestant picked last week for the Top 24 was booted over the weekend, according to reports. The reason: his father told a local newspaper that his son made the semifinals, a violation of the show’s confidentiality rules. Michael Lynche, called Big Mike on the show, was a high school football hero and his mother is a local columnist for the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times, according to a report last week in her newspaper. The paper reported that his father confirmed he’d made it to the Top 24.

Carey’s and Cyrus’ participation in the single could not be confirmed at press time, but an Island Def Jam rep did verify the news of Bon Jovi’s appearance.

Our ‘American Idol’ sings the national anthem in New Orleans

Kris, who has a few months of reigning over the “Idol” world left, sang the national anthem in New Orleans this afternoon, where the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings are vying for the NFC championship and a spot in the Feb. 7 Super Bowl.

Do you like his rendition? We did, but we also like a new ditty emerging on Twitter among Saints fans, “Favre on the ground, Favre on the ground.”

Wonder what inspired that one?

Robert Pattinson and Simon Cowell to Make Sweet Music Together?

Simon Cowell wants to sign Robert Pattinson to a major record label deal, according to the U.K. Sun. If you believe the British tab, a bidding war has broken out and the cranky judge is so keen on scoring the sparkle vamp, he’s reportedly all but written him a blank check.

As any Twihard knows, Pattz plays the piano and guitar and has even contributed tracks to the movie soundtracks.

But the hottie isn’t budging.

‘Pants on the Ground’ — Another NFL Rendition

Brett Favre isn’t the only one doing “Pants on the Ground” — check out Carolina Panthers
Pro Bowl running back DeAngelo Williams doing his version.

And the genius himself, Larry Platt, was a surprise guest at a Minnesota Vikings team meeting today to perform the song for the team. Is it too late to bet on the Saints?

Vikings bring “pants on the ground” guy to New Orleans

Platt, 62, performed the song less than two weeks ago on American Idol. Vikings quarterback Brett Favre chanted the refrain in the locker room after Minnesota upended the Cowboys last Sunday.

A reader tells us that Greg Coleman of KFAN has reported that Platt will be on the sidelines today with the Vikings. Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that Platt has made an appearance at a team meeting.

Somewhere, Prince has a mildly pissed off look on his face.

Happy holidays for Jennifer Hudson as she enjoys a sunshine break with fiancé

After her stunning turn over the weekend in MTV’s Hope For Haiti Now concert, Dreamgirls star Jennifer Hudson took a well-earned break in the Caribbean with her partner David Otunga.

The curvaceous singer, 28, gave birth to David Daniel – named after his lawyer-turned-WWE wrestler father – in August last year.

But clearly some quality couple time was a priority for the new parents. Jennifer Hudson with her fiancé were at the Atlantis Paradise Island while attending the Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational in Nassau, Bahamas.

Music Review: Jason Castro – The Love Uncompromised EP

On to 2010, Castro delivered his first acoustic release, The Love Uncompromised EP. It has a solid foundation with the first track and lead single, “Let’s Just Fall In Love Again.” The simple and catchy guitar riff allows Jason Castro’s beautiful melody-minded creativity to shine thru. Those who watched American Idol fell in love with Castro’s down-to-earth personality backed by an insatiable musical appetite. With the passionate vocals produced in “Sweet Medicine, ” Castro’s musical intimacy and passion for the art clearly shines forth throughout the five tracks. “I feel like the album really captures my personality, ” Castro says. “People got to know me a bit on the show, so I wanted to build on that by including all these songs I’ve written about my life. Idol’s “Pants” Jinxes Vikings…and Jumps Shark?

The team was such fans of both the tune and Minnesota native Platt that they flew him to New Orleans over the weekend for some pregame festivities in advance of their (ill-fated) NFC Championship Game. In addition to taking pictures with the Vikings, Platt also performed a spirited rendition of the tune for the players, showing viral wannabe Favre how it’s really done.

Sadly, they lost (the game as well as their dignity) to the Reggie Bush-led New Orleans Saints, whose fans nevertheless found a way to get in on the Idol action.

“Favre on the ground, Favre on the ground, lookin’ like a sack with Favre on the ground, ” a hometown fan’s sign in the Superdome read.
