Jennifer Hudson Denies Pregnancy Reports

Those recent tabloid stories about a new baby? It was all a dream about this girl.

“Contrary to what has been falsely reported, Jennifer Hudson is not pregnant, ” her rep Lisa Kasteler says. “Jennifer leaves in April for South Africa where she will portray Winnie Mandela in the feature film, Winnie.”

“It is a commitment she is excited about and takes very seriously, ” the rep adds. “Jennifer is currently in the studio recording her second album and this is the only delivery she is looking forward to in 2010.”

Nashville Reels To A Somber Tune

December 23, 2009 – As we look back at the challenging, sometimes chaotic music world in the decade that’s coming to a close, we turn our ears to Music City. Nashville’s mainstream country music business found some immunity from the trends devastating sales in other genres across the country ‘” at least for a while.

The 1990s could not have gone much better for Music Row. Country music was consistently among the nation’s top-selling genres. New stars were minted every month, it seemed, and the biggest of all ‘” Garth Brooks ‘” reset the bar for success in Nashville.

‘American Idol’ reverting to form — yay or nay?

“American Idol” announced Tuesday that it’s reverting back to a Top 24, with 12 men competing against each other and 12 women competing against each other. Is this a good thing?

We say yes. A resounding yes, for several reasons: gender balance, higher quality and more exposure before Top 12 starts.

Simon Cowell’s Possible Departure From American Idol

For Idol, this would be a bad, though not necessarily fatal, blow. However much people hate (or love to hate) Cowell, he’s a major reason to watch, and more important, the public face of the show. Even if Idol has tried to tone down the show’s nastiness, the judge’s sneering and bickering with Ryan Seacrest and his co-hosts is the acid that cuts
the show’s sweetness. This helps bring in viewers who don’t necessarily care about pop competitions per se. You can’t replace that with Ellen’s star power, or by hiring some generic cranky Brit. And the show already has to deal with losing Paula Abdul. (Whatever you think of her judging, her unpredictability was another key to the show’s success.)

New Voices creator Brandon Ivie: from early preview of Next to Normal to a bigger demand for seats

Some bright ideas deserve to shine. Several years ago, Brandon Ivie and friends decided to put on a show. With friends working in musical theater, the concert called New Voices grew into a showcase of new tunes, including an early preview of songs from the Tony Award winning Next to Normal. Now, twice a year, Ivie collects some of the hottest talent in Seattle, pairs them with an eclectic mix of brand new show tunes, and let’s them entertain increasingly enthusiastic audiences.

Among the expected line-up of singers for the current edition: Anthony Fedorov (American Idol finalist and 5th Avenue Theatre’s dreamy Joseph), Eric Ankrim (Peter Pan at SCT), Don Darryl Rivera (the Mouse with a cookie obsession at SCT but also a great singer and comedian), Nick Garrison (Seattle’s favorite Hedwig among other rocking roles), Jennifer Paz (Miss Saigon’s Kim in the national tour and another recent star at the 5th in Joseph), and a host of others.

December 24th….Husband’s Day at the Mall

    Happy Christmas Eve everybody!

  2. Apparently LLWD is now part of the Rate the Music Survey for Top 40. Has it only been on the HAC survey previously? I wasn’t really paying attention.

    Whoever is shopping today? Egads.

  3. Apparently LLWD is now part of the Rate the Music Survey for Top 40. Has it only been on the HAC survey previously? I wasn’t really paying attention.

Only songs in the top 30 are part of the survey, and LLWD didn’t make the top 30 until last week.

  4. Don’t do it! It will drive you mad! Mad, I tell you!

I have to… but If I dont write back in two hours, tell Archie I was really excited for his second album….

    Adios…

  5. December 24th’ ¦.Husband’s Day at the Mall

That’s where my husband is right now. This is of course the reason that every Christmas, I usually just get a pile of gift cards LOL.

I shop for everyone we have to buy for, and he only has to shop for me. I’ve been done for a week, and I’m not sure he’s even started!

  6. Oh, the universalities of Christmas! My husband knows not to complain about shopping since he, too, shops for only me. And he gets my two daughters to help him. (Which is a good thing.)

Good luck to those going out. We’re expecting lots of snow today so I’m snuggled in at home.

  7. Listening to all the Christmas shopping horro stories makes me thankful for years like this when Hanukkah has come and gone before Christmas. Made shopping at Toys R Us for my nephews and neice easier. And all the women in my family tend to exchange gift cards so we can buy clothing in our own style with them since we all have our own taste. Of course, my anniversary is today so my husband and I will always get hit by the pre-Christmas rush regardless when buying anniversary gifts for each other.

  8. Good Lord! I would hope Jennifer Hudson isn’t pregnant again already! Isn’t she supposed to be getting married? I thought she was engaged. I hate seeing all these kids being born out of wedlock…just sad. Thank God Carrie’s doing things in the right order.

  9. Just now looked through yesterday’s headlines. Congrats to MJ for the Fox press thingie! Seems like quite a coup, and selfishly, I’m looking forward to the benefits it brings to the readers!

Thanks MJ for the blog, and to Kirsten for the numbers info. I’ve had a ball learning about the fascinating radio/music industry the past few months. What a sheltered, naive life I led before knowing about Quick Cuts, spincreases, radio adds, and iTunes live feeds. How ever did I manage to muddle through life?

  10. Sorry, meant to include this:

    LLWD is #33 on Billboard’s Hot 100 (from #36), and KA the album is #56 on the Billboard 200 (from #61) [thanks @smores100, @chargil] o/ o/

This is LLWD’s 8th week in the BB Hot 100. Other BB charts: #27 Pop, #57 Radio Songs, #28 Digital Songs, #13 Adult Pop.

  11. God, with the decade comming to an end it’s hard to believe all that happened this decade. We were given the most incredible show in Idol, which found us some of the most talented people in the world. And still after all these years, Kelly still gots it!

  12. I managed to finish my shopping. But haven’t wrapped a thing lol! And now the Hubby got me an iPhone for Christmas which he gave me early so I will never get anything done ever again cuz I can just lay here on the couch and visit mj’s. Bwah!

  13. Yes, we can’t leave Kirsten out of the mix can we? I have learned a lot about the numbers from her and I suppose it might have had some influence on me having the desire to track some of the album stats myself. :)

    How cute is this. Hee

As far as shopping on my end, I only bought gifts for my parents, everyone else got money. Trying to shop in the mall around here is a nightmare. lol

  14. This is LLWD’s 8th week in the BB Hot 100.

And second week in the top 40 of the BB Hot 100!

Thanks for all the kind words, people!

  15. December 24th’ ¦.Husband’s Day at the Mall

Yup I’m pretty sure my husband will be doing that after his half day work today.

    Merry Christmas Eve everyone!

  16. Of course, my anniversary is today so my husband and I will always get hit by the pre-Christmas rush regardless when buying anniversary gifts for each other.

Aw, what a great day to get married. Happy Anniversary :).

tierbee, the iPhone is a life changing piece of technology. I don’t know how I ever lived without mine. I visit MJ’s when I’m in the carline to pick up my kids at school. You guys should be able to tell, because that’s when my spelling is extra bad LOL.

I’m with Eileen99 in appreciation for the record industry education we get here at MJ’s. Kirsten and MJ know how much I adore them, but it can’t be said enough.

And, Yay for Kris’s single success. It’s really nice to see that.

  17. FYE (album) is positioned at #29 on the Billboard 200 (up from #30 LW) and WWFM just debuted at #72 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Can’t wait for those holiday albums to disappear from the charts.

  18. Can’t wait for those holiday albums to disappear from the charts.

Without the holiday albums Kris would be Top 50 so I definitely agree.

  19. I visit MJ’s when I’m in the carline to pick up my kids at school.

Oooh, good idea! I sit out there forever sometimes so I’m not the last mommy in line, lol.

  20. Here is the first article I have read that actually puts forward a plausable explanation why SuBo is selling so well [which still puzzles me].

The secret to Susan Boyle’s success

This might be because Boyle has staked out an area of pop music that is popular on Idol and Talent, but not in the recording industry: proudly middlebrow music. Other reality stars feel a need to go on to something personal. Lambert’s debut album features mostly up-to-date pop songs, while Kris Allen co-wrote most of his own songs, none of which has really caught on. Boyle does not pretend to be a songwriter; she chose 12 standards, ranging from a Madonna hit to public-domain favourites like Silent Night. Not only does this reassure customers by giving them songs that they know in advance are good, it means that there will be at least one song that appeals to any buyer in any age group. That gives Boyle’s album the same demographic profile as American Idol, which the New York Times’s Bill Carter described as ‘a phenomenon built on new artists singing mainly middle-of-the-road pop songs of the ’60s and ’70s.’

It helps that Boyle’s tracks are calculated to appeal to Cowell’s audience’”which is to say a mass audience. Her singing style is based on Broadway and West End divas like Patti LuPone and Elaine Paige (Evita), a breathy, heady voice that starts quietly and builds to a big climax. It’s a style that can be applied to any kind of song, and makes them all sound more or less the same. Choosing the Rolling Stones’ Wild Horses for the first track on the album brought Boyle some notoriety for branching out into a new kind of music. But while the original song is a downbeat country-rock ballad, Boyle’s version’”with its arrangements dominated by strings and piano’”makes it sound exactly like the title track. In a fragmented market, this kind of arrangement may work because it’s not really anything in particular: like the uptempo, all-purpose arrangements on the hit show Glee, Boyle’s recordings can’t offend fans of country, rock, or show tunes.

No wonder Donny Osmond has recently become friendly with Boyle; with her all-ages appeal and her choice of songs from every era, Boyle is a throwback to the mass-market, all-purpose variety style of Donny and Marie’”just like Britain’s Got Talent is.

  21. Interesting article but there is a bit in here that bothers me:

Lambert’s debut album features mostly up-to-date pop songs, while Kris Allen co-wrote most of his own songs, none of which has really caught on.

Both Kris and Adam have started to catch on – Kris is doing well on radio on both HAC and CHR and Adam had a later start there but is also starting to move up. Where is SuBo on the radio? Some of her Christmas stuff got picked up by AC, but that is temporary for hte holiday season and unless the rest of her stuff is potentially picked up by AC after the holiday season she’s going to eventually fade into obscurity, likely as a one album wonder. Adam and Kris, on the other hand, remain relevant to today’s music scene and both are headig towards success on radio so it would seem they are not going to be one-album wonders,

  22. Did you forget that Subo’s hearthrob gowing up was Donny? That’s why she was so thrilled with DWTS. *yuck for the whole thing*

  24. Here is the first article I have read that actually puts forward a plausable explanation why SuBo is selling so well [which still puzzles me].

The secret to Susan Boyle’s success

Nah! People buy the album without knowing what songs are in the album, and it goes without saying that the songs will be covers. They are buying the story, not what’s in the album.

  25. I still don’t get the SuBo thing at all. Color me mystified. I have no one in my age group or older that wants that CD. Let me know who is buying it pls.

  26. I hate this : DC with a new tattoo. Check out his birthday picture with the family.

  27. ^^^
As long as he doesn’t tattoo his face, I’m cool :) . No marring the face, ok Mr. Cook?

(Hopefully he’s not like my brothers who would then go do it just to be ornery, heh).

  28. I personally think if Susan Boyle didn’t have the backstory of being this sheltered middle-aged woman, she wouldn’t have sold anywhere close to 1 million albums yet. I’m not even sure she would have been signed to a record deal, because IMO her voice isn’t all that great or unique. It’s the whole Cinderella aspect that is the main selling point for her. Me, I’m never going to buy any of her CD’s because I don’t really care about her story and I don’t like her music.

Ooh, that statement just DRIPS with Christmas cheer, doesn’t it?

  29. Speaking of popularity of Susan Boyle…
One of the bestselling authors of the world is Danielle Steel. I found her books (tried to read at least two) boring, predictable and horribly written.
Yet she sells like crazy. Mass appeal.
Only time will tell if SuBO has staying power. I wish her the best, but I would never buy her album. But it’s me. I’m a freak…:o)

  30. I still think Simon bought SuBo’s first million to make sure she was successful ;)

  31. ahh neat, I guess Snarkys posted an unreleased song by Matt Wertz that Archie help write.

heres the snip from the site:
I’m kind of an avid Matt Wertz fan. Today he updated his site to add three YouTube videos of unreleased songs. The third song posted happens to be one of the songs he wrote with David. Check it out!

‘So, if you’re anything like me, going home for Christmas break means sitting around and watching a lot of videos on YouTube and Hulu, so i would like to submit a few entries for what to watch while killing time with the Fam. I give you: New songs caught live on video by yours truly:

This one is one I wrote with David Archuletta for his record, but i’m not sure if he’ll record it. If he doesn’t, i’m kinda thinking about putting it on my album- It’s called ‘Best Behavior’ and it’s sassy.’http://www.mattwertz.com/

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ija6GOy6F6o

(its a bit hard to hear all the lyrics in the vid but you get an idea)

  32. MJ, if you read this, have the best Holiday ever.
I am totally addicted to your site. Found it looking for Adam’s news and got hooked.
    Congrats for Fox deal!

  33. Adam and Kris, on the other hand, remain relevant to today’s music scene and both are headig towards success on radio so it would seem they are not going to be one-album wonders,

I’m NOT a SuBo fan, but I would guess that it doesn’t matter if you have radio play or not when you’ve sold that many cds. I would think the number of cds she has sold worldwide is more than most artists sell in their lifetime.
Two modest radio hits does not put Adam or Kris in a better position to sell ANYWHERE close to SuBo. I’m not so sure that a second cd is guaranteed yet for both these guys either.
Just wait. Next year, SuBo will release a cd of “Christmas Favorites”. I predict next year’s AI fanbases will be complaining about her again! lol

  34. Happy to see so many Idols on the Billboard Top 100 this week, and to see Kris and Adam moving up the chart. Fingers crossed that Kris will crack the Top 30 next week!

    A very good explanation, LOL!

  38. Just wait. Next year, SuBo will release a cd of ‘Christmas Favorites’ . I predict next year’s AI fanbases will be complaining about her again!

I was thinking the same thing just now! I just hope I don’t get invested as much next year, and my crazy infatuation with Adam Lambert is a once in a lifetime thing! LOL!

  39. I hate this : DC with a new tattoo. Check out his birthday picture with the family.

There was a much obvious picture on twitter last night. The picture was taken down later. The tatoo is definitely there on the outside of his left forearm and it is huge. He now has five tatoos on his arms. To be honest, I am very sad :(

  40. I doubt that’s the last of Cookie’s tattoos. He seems to love ’em (and he hangs out with Neal, lol).

  41. I think SuBo fits neatly into the niche that Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli and Andre Rieu are now occupying, and before them, Charlotte Church and Sarah Brightman and Yanni and Roger Whittaker and Andy Williams and Lawrence Welk and… The list is too long, but my beloved SCTV had this wonderful Perry Como spoof where he was so mellow he was lying in the middle of the stage on a pillow and didn’t even lift his head when he sang. He had this tiny, slow voice singing, “Celebrate good times. Come on…”

My friends who are real opera fans can’t stand Andrea Bocelli, but that doesn’t mean other people don’t love him and his story (He’s blind, people! BLIND, I tell you!) and his Opera Lite. There IS a niche there. It’s certainly not anything you hear regularly on radio, although maybe that’s what the Easy Listening stations play. Josh Groban got some play, didn’t he? I am surprised her cd has been this overwhelmingly popular, although not surprised there is a market there. These are the folks who go to Branson six times a year, count Les Miz and Cats as the only “Broadway” shows they’ve seen and pay $400 for a ticket to Andre Rieu. They have disposable income, they don’t care if the younger folks think their taste in music is as palatable as Spam served with Cheez Whiz, and they’re probably buying extra copies of SuBo for the senior center’s Christmas party. A Christmas album for her is a natural.

I wonder what Elaine Paige thinks about this person who supposedly idolizes her selling way more cds than Elaine Paige ever has or ever will. Unless she does a duet with SuBo, of course.

  42. WWFM — debutted on the Billboard Pop Chart [CHR airplay] at #35 this week. But airplay only earns a little bit of money for the songwriters, nothing for the artist but exposure.

The really important US charts to the artists and the labels are the sales charts — Billboard 200 album chart, digital singles chart, etc.

  43. Wow! seems like forever that I’ve actually been able to read and write here.

I wonder what Elaine Paige thinks about this person who supposedly idolizes her selling way more cds than Elaine Paige ever has or ever will. Unless she does a duet with SuBo, of course.

She did. On the SuBo special they sang a duet. Yes I got sucked in and watched. Maybe they’ll put it on her next CD. Neither one is that great IMO. I DO like Josh Groban tho. He’s pretty.

    De-butted?

OK my worst typo ever — and it is too late to fix it! LOL

  45. Eh, I’m not a fan of huge tatts but David can do whatever he wants with his body. He’s the one has to look at them all the time and he has to be the one to know how he wants his body to look. My BFF I grew up with just got her 6th tattoo and while I’m not crazy about them I’ve grown use to them. I’m sure this won’t be the last DC gets either.

I still say Susan Boyle’s sales go beyond her ‘story’. She’s got the kind of voice people like whether or not everyone thinks she’s unique or the best singer ever. The same WTF reactioned occurred the year Josh Groban’s ‘Noel’ came out and when it just kept exploding in sales every single week.

  46. Not sure if this has been posted yet, but I’ve been watching Fuse, and they just had a mini-interview with Adam during their Gaga special. Then they said they’ll have an “On the Record with Adam Lambert” interview show on January 11 (I think at 8pm).

ITA — there seems to be more going on with SuBo than just the story. My guess it is a combination of:

A story that resonates with a large audience

+ her musical style fits an underserved market

+ there are male vocalists in this MOR pop market but no new big female artists

+ the album is filled with inspirational music at a time when people are looking for hope and optimism

+ it is a good holiday gift

Put it all together and SuBocould be either the Seabiscuit of 2009 [inpiring performer for economic hard times] or this year’s Pet Rock [a passing fad]. My guess is that SuBo will be more like Peter Frampton — the right music for the time, but people will look back and wonder why it sold so much. [IMO Peter Frampton was and is more talented — but he sold 6 million copies of his live album in the US alone and it was not that good.]

And, no matter what else happens, SuBo’s album will end up part of pop culture for years to come — just like Frampton. Here is the great line from Wayne’s World 2, Wayne Campbell says, “Everybody in the world has Frampton Comes Alive. If you lived in the suburbs you were issued it. It came in the mail with samples of Tide.”

  48. I see Carrie and Kellie Pickler on the Billboard Country chart. But that chart only lists the Top 30. Anyone know where Danny’s single is on that?

On the pulse music site he’s listed as #52 on the Billboard projected chart.

    http://pulsemusic.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=country&action=display&thread=14922&page=1

At the Billboard biz website they used to have it where anyone could look at the Top 60 Country songs chart, but now I think that you have to have a paid subscription to see the charts over there.

If Danny really is #52 on the Billboard Country songs chart, I think that is good. He was #55 the week before, and it’s definitely good if he moves up on the chart.

I agree, 100%. Some one “loaned” me the CD. Other than the one song, it is painful to listen to. Soooo Slow.

  50. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!!!

I do agree with this article on the cover issue w/ SuBo. I was thinking about this and discussing w/ hubby last night, how many idol contestants may lose some of their fan base because many love the covers on the show! I think this also explains the huge viewing audience vs. the smaller buying public post idol.

Having said this, it’s hard to know whether this transfers to SuBo since she only sang two? songs on the show.

I also agree: that people are looking for hope and inspiration and that this is an easy Christmas gift to pick up.

In addition, I don’t think we should count any of the top 4 from idol out yet. They are essentially new artists since they’re singing new music and will take some time to build. I truly believe they all have the potential for doing well over time.

  51. Let me take this time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. I’m spending the day cleaning, cooking, and watching DVD’s of Season 7 over again. I love those peeps.

As stated upthread, the new original pic showing part of David Cook’s new tat was taken down, but I think this one with the signed guitar is still there. If not, I’ll find out after I post it. LOL.

  52. According to someone at IDF, Archie is going to be on “Wake Up With Al” on the Weather Channel on Christmas day. It’s on from 6-7 AM EST. Check your local listings for time and channel.

  53. I doubt that’s the last of Cookie’s tattoos. He seems to love ’em (and he hangs out with Neal, lol).

As long as he doesn’t wear studs and rings on his face like Neal does, I’m fine with his tattoos (but no face tattoos – only stupid ones tattoo their face.) I’m not sure what the fascination is with wearing studs and rings, hard to look at them with their studs on. Used to know a nice boy who’d show me all his collection of studs (platinum, niobium and god knows what-ium), such a pity because he is good looking without the studs.

I still say Susan Boyle’s sales go beyond her ‘story’. She’s got the kind of voice people like whether or not everyone thinks she’s unique or the best singer ever.

But her voice is part of her story – a dumpy old spinster who sings like an angel. Nevermind that she isn’t really the greatest singer, but she sings good enough with a pleasant enough voice for the story to work, good enough for people to buy this story. It’s the same for all of them – Susan Boyle, Andreas Bocelli, Michael Buble et al. I was thinking that when I was listening to the latest album by Michael Buble – it’s pleasant enough, not demanding at all, certainly not something that will challenge you. It’s why they are successful.

+ the album is filled with inspirational music at a time when people are looking for hope and optimism

End Of The World is inspirational?

  54. This one is one I wrote with David Archuletta for his record, but i’m not sure if he’ll record it. If he doesn’t, i’m kinda thinking about putting it on my album- It’s called ‘Best Behavior’ and it’s sassy. ‘http://www.mattwertz.com/

    LYRICS TO “BEST BEHAVIOR”
allmyfault on IDF posted (most of) the lyrics to this song:

i’ve never been a paint by numbers guy
when it comes to love, i draw outside the lines
you aren’t as black and white but i see through
    all of this pretending
    your beauty’s never-ending
    but i’m so confused

    it’s like you’re on a stage
but you’ve got no part to play
you just keep on acting on your best behavior
    no i’m not entertained
    ???? (i don’t know this line haha)
you just keep acting on your best behavior

please go on roll the credits, end the scene
if you’re not you, then how can i be me?
don’t you think it’s time to drop your guard
lights camera action but all i see’s a fraction of who you really are

    it’s like you’re on a stage
but you’ve got no part to play
you just keep on acting on your best behavior
    no i’m not entertained
    ???? (i don’t know this line haha)
you just keep acting on your best behavior

girl, give yourself some time to breathe
so beautiful (more after this idk what he says ????)
    enough of all your charades
why don’t you throw your script away

    it’s like you’re on a stage
but you’ve got no part to play
you just keep on acting on your best behavior
    no i’m not entertained
    ???? (i don’t know this line haha)
you just keep acting on your best behavior

  55. Merry Christmas and Happy Hoildays, everyone! I hear the weather is frightful back East and in the Midwest. So if you are travelling, be safe — I hope you are able to get where you are going (I hope Kris is able to get from Seattle to Arkansas tomorrow)!

  56. I do agree with this article on the cover issue w/ SuBo. I was thinking about this and discussing w/ hubby last night, how many idol contestants may lose some of their fan base because many love the covers on the show! I think this also explains the huge viewing audience vs. the smaller buying public post idol.

Well, no artist trying to make their way in pop (which is what most of the AI kids are trying for) can make an album of just covers, but I completely agree that it is one of the greater hurdles they all have to overcome post-AI. They’re singing beloved, well-known songs on AI, and it’s hard to make that segue to NEW music, which can be so hit or miss when it comes to what will actually do well and connect with people. After all, few people are gonna argue the brilliance of “Imagine” or “Billie Jean” or “Tracks of My Tears”.

What SuBo did works for her genre (singing covers). But that strategy would fail for any of the AI contestants coming off the show. However, it is really hard, I think for some of them to overcome that stigma of what made them so famous on AI. Take Cook for instance. I loved him on AI, but part of the appeal was his ability to mix up well known songs so brilliantly. His original material, otoh, just didn’t interest me as much.

And I completely believe that the top 4 from this year (especially Kris and Adam) are in no bad position at all. Kris and Adam are already being embraced quite well by the radio, and Adam has certainly been embraced almost everywhere else as well. That is a huge hurdle, imo, in terms of long term success. I think both of them will tour well, too, which will just increase awareness of their music, and hopefully lead to long successful careers.

  57. *sigh* not a fan of the tats, but David will keep getting them whether I like them or not, heh. Wish he’d leave those pretty arms alone, but they’re his arms.

And, sorry Neal fans, but just NO, Dave.

    Merry Christmas, everyone!!

  58. Ozarka – they’ve figured out all but the missing line in the bridge to that Matt/David song.

  59. She did. On the SuBo special they sang a duet. Yes I got sucked in and watched. Maybe they’ll put it on her next CD.

Yeah, I meant a duet on an album to increase Elaine Paige’s sales.

  60. Aaackkk!!

As far as I can remember this is the first time I have been on this site and not seen an Adam thread on the front page. I am going through withdrawal and it has only been a few minutes. What is he doing??? What’s going on in his life??? What are his plans??? ;)

I am going home to be with my family for the Holidays and will be away from the computer until January 2nd. I may not survive not being able to log into MJ’s blog every day and I won’t be able to watch Adam even if he streams live on the internet. At least I get to see my family. Yay!!!

    Merry Christmas, everyone.

  61. IMO having your first single do well on radio isn’t a sign that radio has embraced you. The real hurdle is how any additional singles do after the first one. There are tons of artists (Idols AND non-Idol people) who had huge hits and then follow up singles go nowhere. Right now I think Carrie, Kelly and Daughtry are the only ones who I feel have been truly embraced due to their string of hits and longetivity.

Happiest of holidays to everyone here!

Yes – but being embraced by radio IN GENERAL (and right off the bat) is much better than not (e.g. Taylor Hicks). And as we’ve seen, this is a long process, not a sprint to the finish. David A only had Crush do really really well on radio, but I’d hardly say that makes him a failure. His x-mas cd and original cd did well, he’s making a third album, touring, etc. David C has yet to have another big radio hit, but his fans will be the first to say sometimes that’s just the politics of how the label wants to release singles, etc. He too had great album sales, a great tour. And they have more chances for another radio hit in the future.

After all, for ANY artist the radio well can dry up on the turn of a dime. Gaga could suddenly have no more hits, Madonna and Britney have certainly seen their success eb and flow over the years. It’s always changing.

LOL – IKR? When we got his youtube tweet last night, I was like, “Oh, thank god! Adam is doing something right now”. I guess he needs his rest now though – so hopefully he’s chilling with friends and family for at least a day or two before practice for NYE has to kick up again.

  64. Adam is having dinner at Alisan Porter’s tonight, she tweeted about it.

Now the fans are caught up, lol!

So happy he has plans…meanwhile, back at the ranch, I am spending time on here looking for news on him! LOL What is wrong this picture??? :-)

  66. Wow, saga, that’s awesome. Thanks! Love how they have the words ‘For Your Entertainment’ in the video.

Does Fox play a flat fee to use the song? I wonder how the money works on that one..

  67. The FOX FYE promo — http://www.foxtvasia.com/ — uses a huge section of FYE and I love the dancing cameraman!

It is airing all over Asia — reported in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Phillipines and Singapore.

  68. It is airing all over Asia ‘” reported in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Phillipines and Singapore.

    wow!!! that’s awesome

–and I love how the fye mv STILL has a banner on iTunes and how it’s in the top 10(it’s #10)!!! :)

  69. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!. Thanks MJ and everyone here. I had a special 2009 that I’ll never forget.

As for the idols…What I’ve learned these years is that having a career that is in line with our interests and being able to carry out our visions in our job is very important to our overall happiness. I think the top 4 this year are doing what they think is the best for their career and I guess they are willing to trade off some sales for that. I didn’t read much about SoBo so I don’t know if her album is what she wants or if she views this as a part of her career.

AdamCastMedia FYE used as the promo for the FOX channel !! cool video ! http://www.foxtvasia.com/ (first video on the right)

hah, they edited the promo to fit the some of the lyric, such as ‘so hot’ ‘tough’ (lol), ‘turn up the heat’ and use ‘I’m Here’, ‘For Your’, ‘Entertainment’ at the end. :)

ETA, youtube rip of the promo

  70. The new tattoos don’t surprise me…fans of the arms don’t want to hear this, but David has said in the past he eventually wants full sleeves.

This is why the Idol gods gave us Kris…yummy arms that won’t be adorned anytime soon. There’s an Idol for both styles!

Someone just saw on Fox here in the US too, very cool.

  72. I think the top 4 this year are doing what they think is the best for their career and I guess they are willing to trade off some sales for that.

So true – I am so proud of Adam, Allison, and Kris, because I feel, above all else, that these are products that they truly stand behind. I don’t feel any of them really “sold out” to create something to be digested to the masses. Particularly in Adam’s case, I really feel this is the cd he wanted to make – to which I say “Hooray!” And as an artist, that may just be the best dream come true :-)

  73. Someone just saw on Fox here in the US too, very cool.

Fianlly! Not that I obsess over these things (tee hee), but I was watching Fox a lot yesterday hoping to catch a glimpse of the promo, but all I saw was AI and 24 promos. Apparently those are the only 2 new shows on Fox in the spring ;-)

Here is the link to the Adam appearance on Fuse Jan 11th!!!
    http://www.fuse.tv/ontv/shows/on-the-record/schedule.html

Sorry can’t link with a pretty name!

Thanks for posting! It occured to me after mentioning it earlier in the thread that I should have posted the Fuse website link to it too ;-)

Should be good. The Lady Gaga interview I caught was very interesting – had some good tidbits about her life and inspiration as a musician. Hopefully we’ll get the same from Adam! Plus they showed MVs, so maybe we’ll have WWFM out by then (fingers crossed!)

  75. Merry Christmas to you Luv!!! May you get everything your young heart desires for Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all the older folks on here too!!!! :-)

  76. I am now a follower of Elliott…hope he gets his Christmas wish.

  77. Merry Christmas Luv! And everyone else.

I’m really excited about the Fuse interview. They tend to repeat those quite often once aired, surprised Adam is getting interviewed so quickly.

  78. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

Best late Christmas present for me in in years will be Gridlock NYE! All thanks to my son!

Looking forward to Adam on Fuse!

    IKR? You tell ’em girl!!!

Agree, the 3 of them keep true to who they are, maybe they won’t be massive appealing artist like Carrie, Kelly or Daughtry, but they will continue to deliver good music to the people that “gets them” and to the people that enjoy good music. This year was Amazing because we found those stars that will be in our iPods for ever :P

  82. hah, they edited the promo to fit the some of the lyric, such as ‘so hot’ ‘tough’ (lol), ‘turn up the heat’ and use ‘I’m Here’, ‘For Your’, ‘Entertainment’ at the end.

That was great! The song works really well! And just love the big note Adam gives at the end on “SCREAM”!! Very cool :-)

  83. Is this only for Asia promo? Why is Paula doing the promo also? Does she have a new show on Fox?

  84. David C has yet to have another big radio hit, but his fans will be the first to say sometimes that’s just the politics of how the label wants to release singles, etc. He too had great album sales, a great tour. And they have more chances for another radio hit in the future.

Well, to be fair David C did have 3 Top 10 hits in HAC radio in the past year. It’s not like he had Magic Rainbow and that was it. And let’s not forget that even though Light On was not huge hit on CHR, it did make Top 20 on CHR. So I don’t quite agree that he was waiting around for a radio hit after Magic Rainbow. There’s at least one format (not CHR but not an insubstantial one) in which he really has established a pretty impressive track record. Only Pink and him have had 3 hits on he Top 40 HAC countdown for the year. Just sayin.

  85. They are still playing Light On, just heard it on the way home from dinner out.

  86. Well all I can say is I’m proud of Cookie’s accomplishments. He has done wonderfully in the last 2 years and has been a force on the Billboard charts. Not many artists get 3 songs from an album that make the top 10 in HAC and have Top 20 hits on CHR. The S8 idols can only hope to do as well.

As to the tats…..I’d still love Cookie, tats or not. It’s his body and his life. I will still be there…..it’s the voice.

  87. Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight! Looking forward to 2010.

  88. As a random note for all you Allison fans – my husband and I went to the movies in NY this evening. On the way in to the theater they had an Allison promo (in the area where you give your tickets to the collector) and then they were playing Pieces.

  89. Random question – does anyone know if you can actually buy tickets to go to the Grammy Awards? I didn’t see anything on the official site about how to get tickets — just a link to a twitter about some contest you can enter to try and win an all-expense trip.

  90. thedavidcook: # Family stuff in the morning, so I’ll say it now. Happy Holidays, everyone! Couldn’t have asked for a better ’09. Owe you guys for that.

Girlygirl, you can’t buy tickets unless you are a member of the academy:

How do I buy tickets to the GRAMMY Awards?
In order to buy tickets you must be an Associate or Voting member of the Academy and have joined by November 2nd.

  92. It’s past midnight, so MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone! I had a successful handbell concert tonight, several glasses of champagne afterwards (love that my kids are now old enough to drink with me–heh!), and I see a cd under the tree with my name on it! Since I already own (and love) KA, I”m thinking it’s FYE!!! :-) Off to bed with visions of sugarplums dancing in my head (or maybe it’s champagne bubbles??)! Sweet dreams!

Don’t forget Kris at Disney Christmas Parade on ABC today.

  96. Well, it looks like Anthony Fedorov has received a nice Christmas present, as well as Ryan Kasprzak. What wonderful news for two sweet guys!

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!

    HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Color me the only one who luvs fye and the cover for FYE

Not the only one. I love it too. I think FYE will be a smash internationally and then the US will finally get on the bandwagon. Better late than never.

    I don’t get Fuse. :(

  99. David Archuleta made an appearance on “Wake Up With AL” on the Weather Channel this morning. He chatted with meteorologist Stephanie Abrams. There was no performance, just some chit chat. Still good promo for post-Christmas shoppers, and just to get his face and name out there. The show will be rebroadcast again today at 10am ET. They’ll probably re-air his segment then too.

  108. Loved Kris on the Disney parade, and will soon try and catch up to videos and performances of other Idols that have them. Hope that Danny singing the national anthem Sunday will be televised.:-D Things were a bit different and on a smaller scale this year for my family with Christmas celebrations, due to my mother-in-law being the hospital and hubby out of work. But celebrations are special for us because of our faith, and we are thankful for each other and that my mother-in-law is doing better after surgery. Merry Christmas and happy New Year to all.:-)
