The season three “American Idol” winner is using her new VH1 reality show, “Fantasia for Real, ” to set the record straight about her family life, her love life and her career.

“In 2008, there were a lot of things going on in Fantasia’s world, ” Barrino told The News. “There was a lot of press about me – a lot of truth but also a lot of false. But everything was messed up, career-wise, and I wanted to allow people to watch me rebuild my dynasty.”

“Fantasia for Real, ” premiering Jan. 11 at 10 p.m., follows Barrino, 25, as she juggles single-motherhood (her daughter, Zion, is 8), going back to school and her singing. Her family, including first cousins K-Ci & JoJo of Jodeci, also plays a large part in the series.

Top ten Idol stories of 2009

Here are what I think were the top 10 biggest stories related to ‘American Idol’ this year, in no particular order.

– Kara DioGuardi arrives. The producers decided a fourth judge would shake things up and brought in a pro, someone who has music experience as a songwriter and producer, as well as a solo artist. At first, I thought she’d bring something fresh to the table with talk of artistry and brand potential. But she got boring fast. Sadly, the one thing I’ll remember from her first year is her attempt to out-bikini the Bikini Girl. (Okay, she did, not that the competition was all that fierce.)

Adam Lambert picked by Entertainment Weekly, MTV News as one of year’s top entertainers

That’s what Entertainment Weekly calls San Diego’s Adam Lambert in its latest issue, devoted to 2009’s ‘Best & Worst.’

Adam is one of the best, of course. In fact, he’s No. 8 on the list of Entertainers of the Year. (Sandra Bullock is No. 1 and Lady Gaga, who’s much-admired by Adam, is No. 3.)

We’d rank Adam first. But then, we’re a wee bit biased. Having cheered his rise to stardom and chatted with him recently at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego, we can’t help but believe that Adam is now the most famous entertainer to have grown up in San Diego.

“At least this way if I screw up the Anthem, the local feed won’t catch it, ” Cook said.

Facebook campaign trumps Cowell song

Rage Against the Machine has claimed the prestigious No. 1 spot on the British singles chart on the last Sunday before Christmas, marking the first time in five years the winner of Simon Cowell’s “X-Factor” has not won.

Joe McElderry’s “The Climb” came in second, beaten by a huge online swell of support for “Killing in the Name, ” backed by a Facebook group with nearly 1 million members.

It was the first time a group had ever won the top slot based on downloads alone, BBC’s “The Chart Show” said.

The Facebook group also raised about 63, 000 pounds ($101, 829) for the homeless charity Shelter, she said. The group had “nearly a million people — we’re 3, 000 off a million, ” she said.

Cowell in job offer to chart rivals

Pop mogul Simon Cowell says he has offered jobs to the couple who launched a successful campaign to prevent The X Factor notching up yet another Christmas number one.

Cowell said he was “gutted” at losing the battle for the top of the festive charts after Rage Against The Machine beat X Factor winner Joe McElderry to number one.

He was no “sore loser”, Cowell added, as he revealed Jon and Tracy Morter, who led the Facebook campaign which ended the talent show’s four-year run of number ones, had turned down his job offers.

Simon Cowell admits Joe McElderry’s chart defeat was his fault and offers jobs to Rage Against Machine team

He admitted he was “gutted” that rockers Rage Against The Machine had pushed Joe into second place.

But Simon was so impressed with Jon and Tracy Morter, who organised the Facebook campaign to get Rage to No1, he phoned and asked them to work for him.

He said: “I am genuinely impressed by the campaign they have run. It has been a good campaign with no dirty tricks and without any funding. They have been passionate and worked hard.

“I offered them jobs at my record company. It could be in marketing or perhaps even running the company!

“This is their first attempt at putting out a record and they got a Christmas No1, so they have not done badly at all.

Concert Review: Alice Cooper’s Christmas Pudding

The evening featured numerous local acts, including the winners of Alice’s The Proof is in the Pudding contest, which a pre-Idol Jordin Sparks won several years ago, and Tempe mainstays Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, as well as Scott MacIntyre, another Phoenician American Idol contestant, singing original songs from his Christmas EP, Christmas Angel. The night also featured a dance performance by the Solid Rock Dancers, the troupe out of Alice’s teen center.

The evening was well attended and well received, but it wasn’t my particular brand of Yuletide cheer. While a show of hands in the crowd revealed that a large portion of the audience had attended the event in previous years, and while some of the acts were actually quite good (Proof is in the Pudding winners Buskin Cuffs, who are all under 18, were better than most of the acts on stage), I just kept thinking I was at this show because I was on the Naughty List.

  1. Adam is one of the best, of course. In fact, he’s No. 8 on the list of Entertainers of the Year. (Sandra Bullock is No. 1 and Lady Gaga, who’s much-admired by Adam, is No. 3.)

Sandra Bullock #1? Hmmm. Dunno about that.

  2. Well, David Cook didn’t screw up the Anthem. He sounded (and looked) great!

  3. David Cook- local blackout also bad news the national broadcast big chance did not show him singing either..its called pregame..Hey there is always youtube..

Gingerly –I agree with her 100% about the Na..David C a big thumbs up!

  4. How sick is it that I am probably more excited about Fantasia’s reality show than I am about the premiere of Idol S9 the following night? I love a girl that’s not afraid to talk about herself in the third-person. She’s so fierce. Everything she does is jaw-dropping. I can’t wait.

  5. It’s all about Adam! From day one, he came across as that flamboyant in-your-face theater guy who is both mesmerizing and annoying. That scream! That makeup! That come hither look! The women melted. Sure, he was gay. And everyone knew it. And sure, he waited until after the show to ‘officially’ out himself. But the reason he almost won was his pure ability to perform, be it a Led Zeppelin cover or an Indian-tinged take on Johnny Cash. The man has cahones! And he seems like a nice guy to boot.

I think that’s the best description that I ever heard of Adam. I loved it. Not that I think that Adam is annoying, but I know that some people do (and I kinda understand why: he is too unique to please everybody).

  6. Sandra Bullock #1? Hmmm. Dunno about that.

Yeah I don’t know about that either…but if you have not seen her in this years movie The Blind Side, it is worth it, she is most excellent in it, and it is one of the best movies I have ever seen!

  7. How sick is it that I am probably more excited about Fantasia’s reality show than I am about the premiere of Idol S9 the following night? I love a girl that’s not afraid to talk about herself in the third-person. She’s so fierce. Everything she does is jaw-dropping. I can’t wait.

I knew I loved you for a reason. Fanny rules!

  8. Sandra Bullock was nominated for Golden Globes for two movies, can’t remember the name of the other one. But yes, #1 entertainer of the year seems like a stretch to me. However, I think she’s really well liked and some of those who have been following her career feel like it’s about time she is getting critical acclaim so that is probably playing into it. Of course there are probably a lot of naysayers regarding #8 as well. :)

  9. Ah, Piers, your America’s Got Talent show bores me to tears (or at least to changing the channel), but I love this quote:

Morgan said: ‘Anything that winds up Simon Cowell is good in my book. He appreciates it when someone outwits him ‘“ it doesn’t happen very often.’

‘He will be in Barbados now on his little jet-ski absolutely seething with rage.’

  10. Sandra Bullock #1? Hmmm. Dunno about that.

She’s stars in the critically acclaimed sleeper hit of the season. Can’t beat that. Everyone loves a sleeper!

  11. Valerie Scher is also a correspondent for a London based Opera magazine. In her past articles of Adam she had opera experts rate Adam during the AI show, and then recently in another article, they rated the FYE album. She was very positive about Adam. Now we know why. She clearly states she is an Adam FAN. I guess she knows her opera ‘“so great to see as a music lover, she is also a fan of Adam.

These articles have been posted before but if you have forgotten the message they are worth a second read. Based on a few posters last night discussing Aftermath and Sleepwalker ( favorite or not so much)—read what a few opera folk like. It seems to show the eclectic nature of his album was a good choice for his first album. Like the rest of us ‘“they all had some different favorites.

  12. Yeah I don’t know about that either’ ¦but if you have not seen her in this years movie The Blind Side, it is worth it, she is most excellent in it, and it is one of the best movies I have ever seen!

True, I really do want to see that movie. And nominated for Golden Globes for two movies? Okay then, it becomes more believable. Well good for her.

I do like some offbeat reality shows, I’m def gonna give Fantasia’s a look-see … I can’t believe lately I’m watching Dog the Bounty Hunter, LOL, I never watch shows like that, but it’s actually fun (for awhile anyway, I think I’ll be tired of it soon). I don’t mean to equate Fantasia to Dog the Bounty Hunter! I think she’s pretty cool.

  13. I’m OK with Sandra Bullock as #1 this year, seeing that she had at least 2 hit movies this year (The Proposal and The Blind Side I think?) and I think she’s a very good actress.
Apparently the only time a musical artist was given the #1 spot as entertainer of the year by EW in the past 20 years was in 1999, when it was given to Ricky Martin. Usually that spot seems to go to actors or comedians, who I guess have more widespread appeal than musical artists.
Link to past entertainers who got #1 spot:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entertainment_Weekly

I think if Bart Simpson one in 1990 anythings possible. LOL.

  14. Sandra Bullock has starred in two hit movies this year. There have been several articles recently about how much money these movies have made. And she has been nominated for several awards as well. So she’s probably the most logical choice to be #1 on this list.

  15. hmm.. Adam is number 8? His singles’ sale flopped ..His debut Album is not that all great. Yeah, he is on the news everywhere, but i believe most are negative ..Since Valerie is his fan, this ranking is sure bias.

Most of the news about Adam is definately NOT negative and Valerie Scher did not have anything to do with the ranking process, therefore……………………………As far as sales, I was in the stores this weekend and “others” had CD’s sitting while Adam was sold out.

  21. hmm.. Adam is number 8? His singles’ sale flopped ..His debut Album is not that all great. Yeah, he is on the news everywhere, but i believe most are negative ..Since Valerie is his fan, this ranking is sure bias.

Many, many music critics thought Adam’s album was great, one of the best for an AI debut album. Of course, not everyone is going to love it. What negative news has Adam been getting? Since he was on AI, the articles I’ve read were that he had massive talent.

  22. Hmm, yeah ‘“ Time and EW and Barbara Walters and MTV and RS and the Washington Post (and I could go on and on), are apparently all drinking from the Adam koolaid’ ¦

  24. Why is Danny STILL joking about streaking? This is going to make people NOT want to buy his single, which I don’t think is the response he’s looking for’ ¦

Yeah I just bought 37 prophylactic copies of Kesha’s Tik Tok, just in case he’s serious.

  25. Brittany Murphy’s death appears to be from natural causes’ ¦

That just means it wasn’t a suicide or homicide. It still can mean that she overdosed or died from a bad mixture of meds legal or otherwise. Or it could mean that she had the flu or something. Very sad no matter the cause. But, the “natural causes” covers a variety of things.

  26. Good God Danny. If you can’t be clever on twitter like Kris is, then just stick to the facts. FAIL.

  27. I hope for the best for Danny as a person, but I still have an aversion to him, left over from the competition. I think he looks smug and unappealing in recent photos for singles. I know that’s just me.

  28. That just means it wasn’t a suicide or homicide. It still can mean that she overdosed or died from a bad mixture of meds legal or otherwise. Or it could mean that she had the flu or something. Very sad no matter the cause. But, the ‘natural causes’ covers a variety of things.

I saw photos of her yesterday all over the internet and it’s very clearly visible that she was sick imo. Probably anorexia coupled with drugs or something. She had her neck covered in one photo with her husband (he looked pretty off there too) which is typical of anorexia victims. She also had her arms covered, another place where anorexa is easily seen, if the muscles have started to disappear.

  29. Yeah, it’s not like the media is ever guilty of falling into ‘groupthink.’

Yet with the company he’s keeping on many of those lists, I guess I’d rather be on them than not ;-)

  30. Yeah I just bought 37 prophylactic copies of Kesha’s Tik Tok, just in case he’s serious.

LMAO. Looks like it’s time for me to go on an iTunes shopping spree!

Regarding Brittney Murphy, yes “natural causes” could cover a lot of things. And, cardiac arrest can result from multiple causes. Looking at recent photos, if I had to guess, I’d say she had a Karen Carpenter style heart attack. Either way, it’s such a shame. She was so young, and so talented. I just always thought she was so adorable.

I’m not at all surprised to see Sandra Bullock at the top of all of those Entertainers of the year lists. She had HUGE box office this year. And, in Hollywood, that’s a pretty big deal for a woman in her 40’s.

ETA: Saga, we were sharing a brain on the Brittney thing (and apparently posting at the same time LOL).

  31. I’m not at all surprised to see Sandra Bullock at the top of all of those Entertainers of the year lists. She had HUGE box office this year. And, in Hollywood, that’s a pretty big deal for a woman in her 40’s.

Yes – I agree – she makes sense for the list. Plus, having huge success at the end of the year tends to overshadow anything that happened earlier in the year. So the recent award nods, plus current box office hit made her a good candidate. Earlier success in the year (and success that kinda came out of nowhere at that), only sealed the deal. She’s having a comeback year not unlike Robert Downey Jr had last year.

  32. I know that’s just me.

Nah, not just you. A lot of people feel that way about him (while others like him of course). The “streaking” bit is dumb imo. Maybe he’s a closet exhibitionist, ha.

Yes from what I was hearing on the morning talk shows today, sounds like Brittney Murphy was some combination of aneorexic and maybe drugs, it will take a few weeks for the toxicology tests.

  33. Can’t edit so will add, someone who seemed to know her was talking this morning, that she had a lot of personal demons, didn’t think she had done as well in acting as she thought she should do, and it bothered her a lot. Sounds like maybe she was tough on herself.

  34. Nah, not just you. A lot of people feel that way about him (while others like him of course). The ‘streaking’ bit is dumb imo. Maybe he’s a closet exhibitionist, ha.

I think he’s just not terribly bright.

  36. Good God Danny. If you can’t be clever on twitter like Kris is, then just stick to the facts. FAIL.

Yeah Danny! Don’t you know that you should tweet about clever things like peeing and sh#$@ing your pants. Get it together man! :)

  37. I think he’s just not terribly bright.

I think you are absolutely right. Plus, his twitter begging wreaks of desperation, which is pretty darn unattractive.

  38. I’m not at all surprised to see Sandra Bullock at the top of all of those Entertainers of the year lists. She had HUGE box office this year. And, in Hollywood, that’s a pretty big deal for a woman in her 40’s.

To provide some numbers, “The Proposal” was the 11th biggest revenue generator in the Domestic box office this year with $169M in revenue. “The Blind Side” is at number 29 with $100M in revenue. “The Proposal” took in another $151M in foreign box office and $55M in DVD sales (4.1M units as of Nov 30th). The production budget for the movie was $40M. I don’t know how much the “Blind Side” made, but it was probably in the same range. Hollywood likes people who can turn smaller budget movies into $100M+ revenue movies.

Top 10 (so far according to the Numbers):
    1. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen $402M ($431M foreign, $182M DVD)
    2. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince $302M ($633M foreign) *Note Biggest worldwide gross
    3. Up $293M ($401M foreign, $101M DVD)
    4. The Hangover $277M ($185M foreign)
    5. Star Trek $258M ($127M foreign)
    6. Twilight: New Moon $231M ($360M foreign)
    7. Monsters vs Aliens $198M ($183M foreign)
    8. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: $197M ($690M foreign, $66M DVD) *Note Second biggest worldwide gross
    9. X-Men Origins: Wolverine $180M ($196M foreign, $68M DVD)
    10. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian ($237M foreign)

  42. Ugh. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! SuBo will record the next Bond song? No no no no no no’ ¦ can I add another no?

Yeah – that just seems like all kinds of weird. With the Alicia Keys theme before, and of course Daniel Craig brought on as Bond, weren’t they trying to make it all hip and modern? SuBo is just gonna age it back into the 20th century, imo.

  43. Fantasia, you don’t HAVE a dynasty and for the love of God stop talking about yourself in the third person. Maybe if you’d stop detaching yourself from reality by referring to yourself that way, you wouldn’t make all the dumb mistakes that you do.

  47. It’s not even fun as a joke!

  48. Phew! read that article after just initial WTFery reaction. SuBo isn’t doing the music for James Bond…yet. But even being considered for it? Are they effing high? She doesn’t have “sweeping voice.” piffle. She has an okay voice, but it’s not that strong and it’s not that sweeping or distinctive.

Honestly, I don’t think he was joking as he already learned through Adam that controversies sell and there is no such thing as bad publicity anymore; plus being #1 is what he WANTS and I have no doubt about that. He is all about winning if you haven’t figured that out.

Btw, we’ll need to go on shopping spree on amazon too to buy whoever #1 there since he promised #1 on iTunes OR amazon. And I would think it’ll be much easier to get to #1 on amazon than iTunes.

WTH? [runs off to check calendar…no, it’s not April 1st…has the world gone mad?]

    Thanks for another LMAO!

  56. Someone on twitter tweeded that Adam New Years Eve concert was going to be streamed online.

  57. Hey, this is my first time posting, but I just wanted to say apparently there were only two artists that had 3 top 40 hits this year. One being Pink and the other being David Cook.
Just thought you shall all know :)

  58. SuBO…James Bond song?! They don’t know yet how many CD’s will be returned after Christmas?

  59. UPDATE on GRIDLOCK LIVESTREAM – Sounds like it is a go for the Internet. Read the Monday update here:

    http://www.adamofficial.com/us/node/1091976

“Just spoke with a representative from Gridlock. It will be live streamed from the internet and available access worldwide. Will be approx $5.00 to view. They are in negotiations with Adam’s management today to see if they are allowed to videotape Adam’s performance. I expressed the desire of the Global fans. They have my # and will call when things are firmed up, which may be by tomorrow. “

  60. Hey, this is my first time posting, but I just wanted to say apparently there were only two artists that had 3 top 40 hits this year.

Wait – maybe I’m missing something, but how is that possible? What about Lady Gaga? And I’m sure some others too.

  61. SuBo, bringing together fans of all Idols. In this, we can unite!!!!!

    It’s an Xmas miracle!

    LMAO! Too true.

  62. Mary102

I thought that too, but then I saw it on Twitter’ ¦.

Ahh, so it must be true (rolls eyes) ;-)

  63. Mary102

Oh definately ;) haha, but no my mistake, i read it wrong. It’s supposed to say, Top40 HAC songs of 2009

”Only 2 artists had 3 songs on Top40 HAC songs of 2009 Year-End Countdown. David Cook & Pink”

  64. Oh definately haha, but no my mistake, i read it wrong. It’s supposed to say, Top40 HAC songs of 2009

‘ Only 2 artists had 3 songs on Top40 HAC songs of 2009 Year-End Countdown. David Cook & Pink’

Ahh, that’s what I thought it might have meant.

  65. I’ve been watching MTV all day, and just saw Cantiello’s vid about Adam being #3 on their yearly list. It was brief, but very cool. Complete with AMA and AI footage :-)

  66. Gridlock LIVESTREAM???? Fo Shizzle???
Even for us internationals?? And only $5?

Yiippeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! It’ll be Friday morning here, and Fridays aren’t work days- so I can just sit by my laptop and see Adam performing LIVE!!!!

Please please pretty please let this be true……..

  67. Before rumors start, let me post this about the Gridlock livestream.

Derek Sheldon is saying that info is not confirmed and prob is not correct- it is kind of third hand info– he says that the correct info comes from him, AINOW, TLKFUSION and RCARECORDS

he said TLKFUSION holds the cards right- 85% sure it will be streamed but those details that are being circulated on Adam Official are not official and may not be corre

from someone in twitter contact with this Derek person.

  68. Only bad thing about the livestream, won’t it be starting at 3am EST? LOL – I’m in bed WAY before then, even on New Years ;-) But Adam’s worth staying up extra late (or early) – heck, I’ve lost so much sleep over him already this year – thanks to the tour, AMAs, Conan, Letterman, etc. etc.

  69. Well, yes, obviously, nothing’s ever really confirmed till mj says so… :-D

But I can keep my fingers crossed, right?

  70. Thank you for clarifying Saga on the possible livestream. At least there’s hope that it’s a possibility. But won’t get excited until it’s confirmed. Thanks.

  71. It well be really nice if it’s true but I guess well have to wait for it to get confirmed before people get to excited.

Yea!!!! The closer we get to gold the better!!

  75. Can someone tell me what Alicias predicted sales were?

It was between 350k to 380k.

  76. Adam’s FYE album was at #1 in South Africa’s equivalent of Amazon for a week and then it sold out for all of last week. Well, they’ve now got more in stock and it’s already at #4.

Scroll down to see music top sellers on the right.

  77. Hmm, ok using Alicias number as interpolating divice, Adam end up somwhere 53-58 K.

  78. Just to stem the spread of the AO.com rumor —

I have spoken to both Gridlock Productions and Adam’s Management — there is some discussion about live streaming the NYE concert but it is NOT finalized. If it is finalized, they will release an official announcement. Also, if there is a fee for online concert viewing, the proceeds will go to the American Red Cross.

  79. Looks like a good week for FYE sales — and almost certain that it will be a plus over last week.

Also really impressive numbers are SuBo, Bocelli and Carrie.

I am still puzzled by the SuBo numbers — who is buying this album? I still haven’t met one person who has bought it! Even my 86 year old mom think that she is too young to by SuBo.

  80. Here’s Archie on the Today show this morning:

a: I have an entire thread devoted to Archie’s appearance

b: The hollywood gossip is linking to my vid without any attribution. lol.

  81. SuBo numbers are amazing, Im not sure who is buying her albums tho, I think most of them are Christmas gifts for other people lol

  82. Ouch!

CD review: Three artists’ CDs failed to dazzle buyers. But some presumably well-hyped discs seem to register a collective yawn with the masses. We’re talking about American Idol winner Kris Allen’s major-label debut, Creed’s ballyhooed reunion effort and Mariah Carey’s supposedly eagerly anticipated Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel .

Allen’s self-titled effort was essentially DOA. It couldn’t even muster a Top 10 entry on Billboard’s pop albums chart, coming in at No. 11. Pop radio hasn’t embraced his first single, “Live Like We’re Dying.” What’s more, there never seemed to be any buzz behind Allen. Even when he won the Idoltitle, runner-up Adam Lambert was stealing all the sizzle. After a mere three weeks, Kris Allen is at No. 52 and sinking like a rock.

Stupid me. Note to self: Scroll down past Headlines next time, idiot. When has MJ ever missed posting an Idol’s TV appearance?

b: The hollywood gossip is linking to my vid without any attribution. lol.

Well at least I alerted you to that, so it’s not a total loss, right?

  84. Pop radio hasn’t embraced his first single, ‘Live Like We’re Dying.’

Please. LLWD has done well on the radio and is in the Top 30 on Top 40 right now and even better with HAC where it’s knocking on the door of top 10. And it’s been selling pretty consistently well on iTunes. So whatever article, don’t let facts get in the way.

ITA that is one of the most ridiculous comments I have read in a while. LLWD has done very well on the radio and IMO the definition of a pop hit is being in the “Top 40” — and LLWD is a Top 40 hit.

  86. Well at least I alerted you to that, so it’s not a total loss, right?

    Yep! Thanks. :).

  87. But some presumably well-hyped discs seem to register a collective yawn with the masses.

Was I dead when Kris’s CD was well-hyped? Something was wrong because I missed when this happened!!!

  88. That Dallas News piece about Kris’ album and song being DOA is ridiculous, but unfortunately not unusual. If I had a dollar for every “news” article that twisted or simply made up facts to suggest that Kris is a flop, I’d have been able to buy a lot more Christmas presents this year.

I think it will be interesting to see if\when Kris’ accomplishments are actually recognized by the media. Supposing LLWD goes gold sometime in January (which seems almost certain – not to jinx things), will the media finally stop saying the song is a flop?

  89. Forget the sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll. How does David Cook celebrate his 27th birthday? With family and friends and a cookie dough ice cream cake. Now that’s how you party like a rock star!

Is it just me, or is that kinda slimy? Simon is the Grinch who Stole the Christmas #1 Contest in the UK four years in a row which was a fairly straight forward competition until he came along (and from what I hear a fairly beloved tradition in jolly old England).

Oh yeah, he didn’t win this year :) but poor Joe, bah humbug! :(

  92. Realized I posted this news in an old thread and there’s no edit to delete it there. So sorry. But thought people would want to know.

Contrary to any rumors you’ve heard, the Adam Lambert live stream of his Gridlock NYE concert is not a final done deal. Q3 called around like an ace reporter and got the details: http://bit.ly/7COfvU

It’s likely the deal will happen. And if it does, the fee will benefit the Red Cross.

The misleading post at AO has been removed. Actually Q3 was in touch with them. Which is why they took it down.

Chances are good stream will happen, as you’ll see in this tweet from an organizer to 4evrmomof4’s inquiries:
    http://twitter.com/DerekSheldon/status/6904320376

He and a couple of others will tweet when the details are firm.

Well to be fair, Kris was the AI winner and so there is that inherent hype and that means that person does get more visibility than most new artists. He’s been on the whole regular gamut of daytime and nighttime shows, and even primetime with SYTYCD, appearances of an AI winner, singing his single/promoting his album. So yes, you could argue he had a fair amount of promotion.

That being said, I still think that article is hogwash, as I’ve already stated about it’s being wrong about Kris not having a hit pop song, he does.

Kris has had lots of promos. Tons of radio interviews and radio concerts. Eleven jingle balls, and more TV appearances than Adam. Promo for the single is the driving force for the album. No one necessarily promotes the album, not even Adam. It’s the singles, which Adam has finally been promoting in the last two-three weeks (WWFM). His only promo for FYE was Ryan’s radio interview, then the AMAs.

  105. I think it will be interesting to see if\when Kris’ accomplishments are actually recognized by the media. Supposing LLWD goes gold sometime in January (which seems almost certain ‘“ not to jinx things), will the media finally stop saying the song is a flop?

Well I think the song LLWD is doing pretty well, I don’t know it’s total numbers right now, but from what I remember, it’s doing well enough so that the song could yes, be gold in January…assuming the January sales doldrums don’t hit it too hard. Not sure how the sales Valley Of Death that January seems to be to albums, effects singles sales. One presumes there are drops there as well, though not as preciptious.

  108. Not like likely Kris will be averaging 50K a week to reach 500K by end of January..

Not exactly. LLWD is at 250,000 right now. I’m figuring into my calculations Kris getting a big post Christmas Itunes bump. I don’t have the numbers handy, but I believe Kirsten posted them recently and they showed that 200% increases that week are not uncommon. He’s selling about 35,000 a week now so if he stays at that level and then sells about 70,000+ post X-mas week, he would be at almost 400,000 by the end of December. (crosses fingers, knock on wood, etc.)

Adam’s trajectory is over the moon! He so deserves this.

  110. Kris has had lots of promos. Tons of radio interviews and radio concerts. Eleven jingle balls, and more TV appearances than Adam.

Big opportunities. And, as a huge Kris Allen fan, will say, again, not fully realized because of LLWD.

If The Truth or Before We Come Undone, or anything, any song at all, that reminded people of the romantic, emotional Kris Allen had been the single, then everytime he went on TV, which was often, people would be reminded of how Kris can inhabit a song. The guy they loved on Idol.

Instead they got some hootnanny country thing that has no “I” in it. It’s not personal. It’s preaching some philosophy. Kris’s tour video was “Bright Lights”. And Kris was so inside the emotions of that song. Couldn’t sit still on the piano bench his passion was so brimming. Equally intense Ain’t No Sunshine and surprising and engaging Heartless helped him win the crown. Those songs aren’t lectures.

LLWD does not connect to Kris’s core emotional appeal. It does not showcase his song interpretation skills. It’s jam-packed with too many words he has to work hard to get them all in fast enough and all lecturing about shaping up your life view. It’s a sermon. Not a romance. Of course, YMMV. But if LLWD isn’t pulling in non-AI fans buying Kris’s album fast enough for you, this could be one reason why.

And, facts must be faced, promo is supposed to be excited. Half the time Kris comes across as not wanting to be there. The “laid back” thing some AI fans like about Kris, for the average American, who is used to TV ad level excitement, feels like he doesn’t care enough.

Kris is a smart, funny guy and he’s way too stingy with his wit.

I blame his management. They didn’t teach this 24-old with no experience how to interview. Here’s what an interview is: A Sales Trip. Every question the inteviewer asks, no matter what the topic, or whatever words he or she is using is the same question: “May I help you sell your record here?” And the way Kris is supposed to answer, no matter what the nominal topic is “Yes, yes, yes!”

Again, YMMV. But the strategy of Kris’s launch saddens me. The Idol winner gets enormous built-in exposure. IMHO, Kris wasn’t given the tools or the single to use them to their fullest.

  111. Not exactly. He’s at 250,000 right now. I’m figuring into my calculations Kris getting a big post Christmas Itunes bump. I don’t have the numbers handy, but I believe Kirsten posted them recently and they showed that 200% increases that week are not uncommon. He’s selling about 35,000 a week now so if he stays at that level and then sells about 70,000+ post X-mas week, he would be at almost 400,000 by the end of December

Ahh, the post Xmas thing because so many people gave iTunes gift cards and then people use them, right? I haven’t seen Kirsten’s post, but I would assume that would be it. But hmmmm, calculating for at least doubling sales for that week. And even if he does, double this sales into 70K for next week, that puts him at more around 350K than 400K, so he would have to sell 150K in January then to hit gold status.

Sure it could be done, not sure how likely I find it. But even if it doesn’t come in January, the song seems to be doing consistently well, so in the long run, it’s going to be fine and the song will probably achieve gold status sooner than later.

  112. I think it will be interesting to see if\when Kris’ accomplishments are actually recognized by the media.

Well don’t hold your breath. David Cook was all over the Billboard charts and had 3 songs on the HAC top 40, but unless you are an idol watcher, no one reported on that. Too bad actual music accomplishments go unnoticed while hype sells.

  113. Instead they got some hootnanny country thing that has no ‘I’ in it.

I’m not sure that’s accurate, but it made me giggle.

  114. Well don’t hold your breath. David Cook was all over the Billboard charts and had 3 songs on the HAC top 40, but unless you are an idol watcher, no one reported on that. Too bad actual music accomplishments go unnoticed while hype sells.

    Yep! ;)

  115. Instead they got some hootnanny country thing that has no ‘I’ in it.

Now I’m confused. Not a big Kris follower, but wasn’t LLWD the song with the rappish bits in it? (which struck me as really weird for what I did like of Kris on AI, which were his songs with very nice pure vocals like Falling Slowly)

hootnanny country with rap breaks. umm, “innovative” :)

  116. If The Truth or Before We Come Undone, or anything, any song at all, that reminded people of the romantic, emotional Kris Allen had been the single, then everytime he went on TV, which was often, people would be reminded of how Kris can inhabit a song. The guy they loved on Idol.

I agree with this, even though I am not a Kris fan. This may not be a popular opinion, but I see Adam do TV promotions and performing in the way he does best (if we forget the AMA’s) but I don’t see Kris doing the same. It feels like wasted opportunities. Kris is very good at emotionally connecting with the song and audience, and using phrasing to capture the attention of the listener. LLWD is not a good song in that respect. It is an OK radio song but not for catching a TV audience.

I am hoping they make BWCU his next single, or something with a more nostalgic/romantic feel than LLWD.

  117. Well thank goodness Adam has the accomplishments to back up the hype. His album sales were great, I wonder if the single sales will be comparable come Wednesday? He needs some more prime time or daytime TV spots, visibility really helps with his sales.

  118. The TV promo for both Adam and Kris is going to wind down. They can only hit the morning/evening talks shows every so often. This will be it for awhile. I predict WWFM has sales of 18-20K this week and LLWD should do 35-40K.

Just like for most artists, radio will have to sell both Adam’s and Kris’ music. Big exception of course: American Idol S9 should boost all the S8 folk (at least the ones also managed by 19). That will help as well.

They’ll have nice commercials featuring them, use their songs on the show, bring them back for appearances etc. That’s really the biggest thing they’ll have on TV for the next few months.

  119. Too bad actual music accomplishments go unnoticed while hype sells.

I think that statement is a little broad. I too am often suprised by what people will buy in astounding numbers, but I’m also not one of those people who believes everything on popular radio is shit. I think there’s some good, solid music out there.

I suppose sometimes it’s the luck of the draw, but I think that many times good quality music does actually find an audience. And I also believe that some of the stuff that fails to be recognized is just totally uninteresting. (I like LLWD, so I’m speaking of that song here).

Granted, the media loves a “story” and someone like SuBo will generate a lot of ink. Looking at the magazines’ and music sites’ year end Top 10 lists, I see a lot of good stuff represented. And even with someone like Taylor Swift getting a bazillion Grammy nominations, I can look at the other nominations in a bunch of the categories and find some darn good tunes.

I just don’t follow the theory that everything that becomes popular or “hyped” is all crap, while it’s the unsung nobodies who are creating the great art no one will ever hear. Not that it doesn’t sometimes happen that way. I just don’t think it’s a rule or anything.

I’m happy for the sales of LLWD, but wouldn’t bigger album sales be more beneficial, especially financially? I mean I would like better single sales for WWFM, but I think in time they will get there, the song has only been out for about a month, but I’m very happy with the FYE album sales. Shouldn’t that be the route Jive should be going, maybe they should do dual singles too?

  121. Well thank goodness Adam has the accomplishments to back up the hype.

Well I don’t necessarily agree with this statement. His accomplishments are meh so far. Not as spectacular as the hype would have one believe. The hype was so OTT and to give him the benefit of the doubt, no one could live up to it. I just think that musical accomplishments should outweigh potential that has not happened yet.

  122. That “countryish hootynanny song” is going to go gold sooner rather than later (probably by January/February) — and possibly even platinum. If Kris wants to be a successful pop/rock musician — and he says he does — he has to put out upbeat songs — he can’t just stick to ballads. And he has said that he likes LLWD and enjoys playing it live. The crowds at the Jingleballs seem to like it as well, since you can hear them singing along on the Youtube videos.

Anyway, speaking of Kris, did y’all see his last tweet — and Jim C’s reply? Somtimes Kris makes it just too easy…ROFLMAO

  123. Jive seems to be a singles factory with artists who have trouble selling albums. Of course, the ideal is to do both – album sales plus hits.

As long as Kris can generate sales in one area, he’s probably okay. Jive is known for their “frugality” and patience as a label
The best thing going for Kris and Adam is that radio is accepting their music. That’s really key for their future sales. It will keep their music selling after all the promo is done.

I am no expert on idols but I think one reason, apart from being a great vocalist and performer, that Adam is hyped is because he is joining a new musical current in the pop scene.

We are seeing a shift in pop toward electronica and dance music, from what used to be more rnb inspired. Lady Gaga, Kate Perry, Mika. Beyonce and Kayne are seeking collaboration from their home genre into more dance/electronic music. Xtina is collaborating with Goldfrap. Adams music fits in very well in this and he also brings something new to the table by adding rock elements. He is also male which is unusual in this genre.

What I am trying to say is that a part of the excitement about Adam is that his music is current and part of a moving trend withing pop music.

  125. I think these sales reflect increased radio presense and the sytycd bump.

Not to mention holiday shopping. This is why you don’t declare a song DOA after only three days of release. It takes time for promo and radio airplay to kick in and it will eventually be reflected in the sales. That’s a very nice boost for Adam’s album. If he can maintain a decent level of sales going into the new year, the album will be gold in no time. I don’t think gold album sales will be enough for Adam to keep his deal with RCA, but he’s off to a nice start. I think WWFM will be a big hit for him (thought so the first time I heard it), so hopefully that will keep the album sales momentum going.

Regardless of whether it happens in January or not, I think gold for LLWD will happen for Kris. I won’t be surprised if eventually goes platinum. He might be more of an AC artist, but I think he has a pop hit on his hands with this single. We’ll see what happens going into the new year. I still believe he’s on the Jordin trajectory with respect to album sales. The most important thing is that his album sales stay consistent from week to week. He doesn’t necessarily have to sell in huge chunks-modest sales from week to week will get the job done. It doesn’t matter if it takes him a year to get there like Jordin-as long as he gets there.

  126. Thanks for that newsflash, ladymadonna. Yep, the link you provided says:

“Later, his friends and family surprised him in his hotel suite by singing him Happy Birthday and presenting him with a Cold Stone ice cream cake in his favorite flavor: Cookie Dough.”

Cookie’s favorite flavor is Cookie Dough!? Too funny! He’s certainly earned that cake this year.

  127. Adam was responsible for forcing me to watch exposing me to SYTYCD for the first time, and tonight will be the first time I’ve seen that Jay Leno show as well. I can’t stand him.

  128. tonight will be the first time I’ve seen that Jay Leno show as well. I can’t stand him.

I’m hoping MJ will have video up. I can’t watch Jay Leno. I’ve never been able to. He’s been the lamest guy in late night for years.

  129. @aleebabee105 Probably my fave whataya want from me yet! Interview was long and interesting and wasnt short at all! So much fun!
less than 5 seconds ago from web

  130. SpenserJ – Someone tweeted that the interview with Adam was long tonight, so maybe you might enjoy watching just this once. They talk about Adam’s brother Neil also.

  131. I’m hoping MJ will have video up. I can’t watch Jay Leno. I’ve never been able to. He’s been the lamest guy in late night for years.

I’m taking one for the team *shudder*

    LMAO

  133. Organic, I just can’t do it. I’ll just wait and let you guys tell me about it :). And, I’m still bitter that NBC cancelled or moved all of their good 10 pm dramas for this ill-fated experiment.

I’m not surprised the interview is long though. Jay’s show is a sinking ship, and the whiff of failure in Hollywood is a bad, bad thing. I’m guessing at this point he’s having trouble booking guests. He’s probably hoping Adam will give him a ratings boost, like Chelsea Lately.

  134. I’m taking one for the team *shudder*

At least we get emo hair tonight and a long coat.

  135. I’m taking one for the team *shudder*

Aw, and I know I’m spoiled and selfish. I’m always letting you be assaulted by things like the View and Leno so that I can have video of my AI faves.

I know it can’t be easy to make those sacrifices, but we really do appreciate it!!

  136. Too bad actual music accomplishments go unnoticed while hype sells.

I think that statement is a little broad. I too am often suprised by what people will buy in astounding numbers, but I’m also not one of those people who believes everything on popular radio is shit. I think there’s some good, solid music out there.

So then maybe it’s the hype for those coming off a TV Reality show. I mean 19 seriously capitalized on the hype for Adam. Mind you I’m not saying he’s not a gifted amazing talent by any means and he doesn’t deserve it. This hype also has helped SuBo, as we can see.

Kris has had no hype surrounding him. To me this explains a lot of what we’re seeing in the sales numbers. And that’s fine, because I believe he has the ability to stay in the industry for a long time regardless of what this looks like. Everything that Kris earned on the show was based on musical ability. I believe this will be the case in his career too.

I thinking this all applies to Allison as well, but obviously she doesn’t have the win to help her out. (Even though it hasn’t helped Kris as it has past winners.)

There are so many factors that go into what has happened post-idol that I don’t think we can compare it to past yrs. In fact, I’m sure this can be said about every year.

  137. I’m glad to see I’m not the only one that thinks Leno’s show is lame. I used to love Jay on the Tonight Show but now, not so much.

The ratings for the new show are falling and falling fast. According to this article from the New York Post, the show is continuing to lose more affiliates.

Now, it appears that NBC’s affiliates, the local stations around the country that carry the network’s programs, are ready to give up on the 10 o’clock experiment.

“The handwriting is on the wall,” Alan Frank, who runs two NBC stations including the affiliate in Detroit, told the trade publication Broadcasting & Cable over the weekend.

“The only question is what [NBC] is going to do about it.”

Other station managers told the magazine that they have seen ratings drop by nearly 50 percent since NBC decided to put Leno on every week night, right before the local late news.

  138. Woo hoo Boyz to Men medley on the Sing Off! Sorry my nostalgia got a little carried away there. But honestly tonight was the night to accidentally watch this crappy show :).

  139. I used to love Jay on the Tonight Show but now, not so much.

Me too. I wonder if his writers are now write for Conan.

  140. I’m glad to see I’m not the only one that thinks Leno’s show is lame. I used to love Jay on the Tonight Show but now, not so much.

I don’t think Leno has been any good since his standup days in the 80’s. Really hated his version of the Tonight Show, and his 10 pm show is even worse, as if that were possible.

    ETA:

I wonder if his writers are now write for Conan.

Conan has his own writers, from his Late Night days. Writers that are, you know…talented.

  141. Conan has his own writers, from his Late Night days. Writers that are, you know’ ¦talented.

lol. I think some of Leno’s writers must have left the show. I remember how lame the show was during the writers’ strike last year.

  142. Lol. Yes MJ, I have a friend whose brother has been on Conan’s (Emmy winning) writing staff for several years. Conan’s funny. Jay used to be back in his stand up days. I think he suffers from trying to appeal to the masses for too long. He’s no Johnny Carson – that’s for sure.

  143. Okay, exactly how long IS Adams interview? I just saw the “Jay’s up next” promo and it only mentioned Adam and showed jay doing a lame joke. Who are the other guests? It can’t just be Adam.

  144. Everything that Kris earned on the show was based on musical ability.

    Thanks for the laugh!

  145. Everything that Kris earned on the show was based on musical ability.

    Yeah right :) :) :)

  146. I am not feeling the half beard thing’ ¦LOL!

That was ugly. He is more OTT than Adam in his delivery.

  147. Hmm, okay, so Jay’s hour long show is now: lame monologue; lame jokes from the desk; guest with new movie out; lame sketch; musical guest.

    Clearly I’m not missing much!

  148. Everything that Kris earned on the show was based on musical ability.

Yep! ;) No back story, no judges hype, never in bottom three until one of the final shows. Only given the pimp spot once.

  149. Everything that Kris earned on the show was based on musical ability.

And the ‘no attention’ or ‘dissing’ continue to be media general idea of how to deal with him. Our boy will prevail however because he’s very talented :)

  150. Tierbee, are you around? If so, I’m sending you a PM at DCO.

On-topic: Saw the prime-time Leno show once. That was more than enough for me. Heh.

  151. Tierbee, are you around? If so, I’m sending you a PM at DCO.

I am now after sitting in the parking lot at FedEx field for 3 hours and never getting a stinking parking space because Dan Snyder is too cheap to plow the whole parking lot or apparently hire people to direct traffic so we got stuck in a snow-blocked row… and so on. Missed the game, though it wasn’t much to miss. I am very cross ;) . And now I will go check my PMs, lol!

On a happier note, I love Cookie Dough, I love Cookie, Cookie loves Cookie Dough, and this is good. C’mon, I need SOMETHING to rid me of my Dan Snyder rage!

I agree with cookcricket and Mtlfan. Kris is so much better than he’s been given credit for. I think that as he keeps performing and writing, he’ll slowly but surely gain the respect of his fellow musicians and industry people first, and then he’ll win the sheep-like media over. Having media support now would undoubtedly help, but I think Kris has always wanted respect more than hype, and he’s willing to work hard to earn it. In time, people will see his real worth.

  154. Ouch to your FedEx Field experience.

I do love how the various Idols are supportive of each other. You especially see it with some of the recent folks.

  155. I am an angry elf. Maybe I’ll go watch that Absolutely Still video again and soothe myself with Cookie harmonies. Hee.

How was Allison’s FIBOU single debutted as compared to Danny so far? Any idea?

I’m a little surprised that Danny didn’t even break #200 on iTunes overall chart after 24 hrs and yet I joined LadyMadonna and bought a ton of TiK ToK.. (JK) Well at least some of us here will not have nightmares tonight! :)

Thanks a bunch girlygirl! I hope Jive will release a new single for her soon..

  160. So then maybe it’s the hype for those coming off a TV Reality show. I mean 19 seriously capitalized on the hype for Adam.

I don’t think 19 did anything. Adam created his own hype. Talented artist create their own hype. Charismatic and interesting people create their own hype.
RCA signed him because they wanted the voice, the talent, and the personality. They are going to push him internationally because of his amazing talent.

Kris has had no hype surrounding him.

Kris had the nice southern boy singer/songwriter underdog story. That was his hype. What works on idol doesn’t always work in the real world. No one cares if you appear “humble” and “non-polarizing”. That’s boring out in the real world.

Kris has had no hype surrounding him. To me this explains a lot of what we’re seeing in the sales numbers.

David Cook didn’t have the “hype” either. But he had sold three times what Kris has sold at this point. (and continued to sell VERY well) Maybe people think David C. is the more talented singer/songwriter. He certainly is more articulate and engaging.

  161. While I’m logged in, the following twitter exchange between Allison and Megan put a smile on my face:

    Meganjoysings:
Im ready for it to be next year now. This year? Whooo too much. Time for a new start. GO. TEAM. MEGAN. about 5 hours ago from web

    AllisonIraheta:
@Meganjoysings I aggreeee!!! I’m on your team!!! ‘ kaaaa kaaaaawwww’ about 1 hour ago from Echofon in reply to Meganjoysings

  162. Kris had the nice southern boy singer/songwriter underdog story.

But I didn’t see much made of this underdog story on the show or in the media. It could have been a GREAT come-from-behind story, but Kris was never lauded for what he accomplished.

“David Cook didn’t have the ‘hype’ either.”

But Cook did have hype coming off of his AI7 victory; off the top of my head, I remember the Skechers ads, TOML at the Olympics, SNL close to his album drop, etc. Maybe he didn’t get as much as Adam has, but he still got more attention/support than Kris has gotten in the media.

Ultimately, I don’t see the point of judging any of these guys based on what other Idols have done–they each have different musical styles, personalities, and circumstances.

  163. But Cook did have hype coming off of his AI7 victory; off the top of my head, I remember the Skechers ads, TOML at the Olympics, SNL close to his album drop, etc.

Then I guess those companys/shows wanted him, BECAUSE of his talent and personality. Same thing with Adam. People want him because he is talented and interesting.

  164. Then I guess those companys/shows wanted him, BECAUSE of his talent and personality. Same thing with Adam. People want him because he is talented and interesting.

I didn’t say anything about Adam in my post. I wasn’t arguing over whether Adam or David are talented and interesting–they are.
I do think, though, that Kris is also talented and interesting, just quieter. There’s a lot more to him than meets the eye; still waters run deep. That’s fine–he’s different, and he’ll have to take a different route to success. Doesn’t make him any less worthy than any of the other Idols.

  165. I didn’t say anything about Adam in my post.

    Yes, you did.

  166. I meant that I wasn’t making any particular point about Adam in my post. I was just trying to explain that Kris has gotten the least exposure/support out of the three, but that he still has a lot to offer. He’ll just have to go about showing it in a different way, that’s all.

  167. I agree with cookcricket and Mtlfan. Kris is so much better than he’s been given credit for.

In my opinion, Kris is the one being overhyped. He doesn’t impress me as a guitarist and if you wanna see a good guitarist, I’d check out the lead guitarist in his band.

He doesn’t impress me as a singer either, very bad technique and tensed throat muscles. I don’t care if he has a more limited range than some other contestants, is how you work with what you’ve got that’s important to me.

On the other hand, I have to say that Kris is an excellent interpreter and that he connects emotionally with his songs. Very passionate. Excellent phrasing.

  168. Kris has had very little hype in my opinion. He was treated as an afterthought during the season, after he won, and even now. No one in the eight season of idol has been hyped to the level of Adam Lambert IMO. Is he off to a decent start in terms of album sales? Yes, but he isn’t exactly setting the world on fire in that department. Honestly, I expected Adam to blow up right off the bat given all the hype and expectations surrounding him. So far that hasn’t happened.

  169. Well, ALL I really care about is that my girl KATHARINE MCPHEE is going to be on LARRY KING LIVE Christmas Special December 23, 2009 in case any other KAT FANS don’t know- thought I would share the news!!!…There REALLY is a SANTA, I got my wish!!!!…YES!!!!!

  170. I always felt Kris was overhyped by the judges, for some of his safe performances. Simon praised him alot except for birth week, rock week and jazz week and honestly those were either weak or too safe performances IMO. Kris has gotten the winners package. Someone mention earlier that LLWD was alot different than Kris’s idol performances and that might have hurt album sales. I kind of agree although I like LLWD and think it is increasing recognition for Kris outside the idol bubble which in the long run is better. I don’t think we can blame Kris’ lack of sales on Adam. Adam has little enough control over even his own sales. It is not going to help Kris to blame his lack of sales on Adam’s so called over hyping. I doubt Kris is the type that wants to whine and make excuses either.

  171. Speaking of Kris. I wonder when his AOL Session be up. Haven’t seen it yet. I want some Kris action. I guess I’ll have to get use to not hearing alot from him until his tour starts. After the sessions we get two more things from him right? And we get one more from Adam right. And at least one more with Allison sine she’s doing the New Years eve thing to. And I wonder if there ever going to put back up her AOL Session.

  172. Later, his friends and family surprised him in his hotel suite by singing him Happy Birthday and presenting him with a Cold Stone ice cream cake in his favorite flavor: Cookie Dough.

Haa. That boy has excellent taste in junk food. One of the greatest truths I’ve discovered in life is that ice cream cake >>>> regular ol’ cake.

Re: Leno vs. Conan…Leno has never been funny, really. Now that he doesn’t have the Tonight Show franchise backing him, people are finally figuring that out. Horny Manatee, however, will never NOT be funny. Jes sayin.

  173. No one cares if you appear ‘humble’ and ‘non-polarizing’ . That’s boring out in the real world.

If you put out a great album, I don’t think people care if you are on the boring side. Overall, I think Beyonce is kind of boring in real life but she puts on a great show and produces big hits.

Kris has a lot of potential and I suspect his second album will be the one to take off. He is the surprise winner, but I think you can only do so much with that story. Right now, Kris has been given an opportunity to get paid to make music because he won. Why did he win? That can be debated but if Adam wasn’t on AI this season, can anyone say for sure he would have won? Although talented, if you measure him against the other top 5, Allison, Matt and Danny was he the one that stood out the most? That’s a tough call. I think we can see by album sales, etc., that he doesn’t have a passionate AI fan base. But that is now ancient history. He has been given a golden ticket, and it is up to him to market himself and put himself out there.

And before anyone adds that Allison has crappy sales, yes, it is true, but if she had won she would have gotten the winner’s package, more exposure etc, which would have benefited her sales.

  174. I don’t think we can blame Kris’ lack of sales on Adam. Adam has little enough control over even his own sales. It is not going to help Kris to blame his lack of sales on Adam’s so called over hyping. I doubt Kris is the type that wants to whine and make excuses either.

I haven’t seen anyone blaming Kris’s lack of sales on Adam.

  175. Why did he win? That can be debated but if Adam wasn’t on AI this season, can anyone say for sure he would have won? If Adam wasn’t in AI8, Kris will still win. He had never been in the bottom 3 till the Top 5 week and that’s the ONLY time he was in the bottom few. After top 5 week, he was the FIRST to call to safety. He got my vote since his first performance on AI8 and my vote for him had nothing to do with Adam but simply because I love his music style, personality and esp. his talent! I’m sure I’m not alone on feeling this way. After all he did sell 80K on his first week. And he will continue to sell more week after week because of his music and just his music alone.. not hype, not controversies.

Exactly. I think Adam’s fans are happy with his sales number so far because his number looked good compared to Kris but in reality, his number was not even 10% of SuBo despite all the massive hype (the next Elvis or Madonna.. etc). I thought he was expected to make David Cook’s sales looked bad but instead now we’re comparing him to Kris and Jordon since they sold worse. Numbers are numbers, bottom lines are bottom lines, spin them anyway you want. I only hope that RCA and Jive are okay with the disappointing numbers thus far and will give both Kris and Adam a lot more time to prove themselves in the sale department esp. since they both are very talented and have good shot for longivity in this business.

  177. Kris has gotten the winners package.

Yep, he got the same thing David Cook got. David earned the extras (Sketcher’s, Oprah, etc.) due to talent and personality. David’s album sold like the winner of AI is expected to sell.

If you put out a great album, I don’t think people care if you are on the boring side. Overall, I think Beyonce is kind of boring in real life but she puts on a great show and produces big hits.

    lol
Beyonce is an Extremely Beautiful, Classy woman who can definately sing and she can dance her ass off. Her performances are amazing! She also has “hype” as far as movies, media, magazines, awards, etc. She has also produced several MEGA HITS! There is NO COMPARISON of Kris to Beyonce!

  178. his number was not even 10% of SuBo despite all the massive hype.

You do realize that SUBO makes EVERYONE look bad. In fact, she makes all contestants from all the seasons of AI look bad! She isn’t just blowing Adam away. She is blowing everyone away!

I thought he was expected to make David Cook’s sales looked bad but instead now we’re comparing him to Kris and Jordon since they sold worse.

I never saw this claim. Most were hoping for around 150K the first week. Why wouldn’t there be comparisons to Kris and Jordin? They won!

I only hope that RCA and Jive are okay with the disappointing numbers

I think Jive is disappointed. I think RCA is thrilled with Adam’s sales thus far and the fact that there is such great interest internationally! I think they made a wise choice going with the runner-up this year.

  179. We have no idea if Jive is disappointed–Kris is doing well compared to other artists on their roster. As long as Jive sees a profit from Kris, which they probably will, since he’s so low-maintenance, Kris will be just fine.

  180. Beyonce is an Extremely Beautiful, Classy woman who can definately sing and she can dance her ass off. Her performances are amazing! She also has ‘hype’ as far as movies, media, magazines, awards, etc. She has also produced several MEGA HITS! There is NO COMPARISON of Kris to Beyonce!

ITA- I was just making a comparison of their “off camera” persona. Beyonce is low key off camera, but a dynamo on stage. What I meant, which I guess wasn’t clear, is that you don’t have to have a dynamic personality off stage if you have the goods. I don’t know if Kris has the goods yet or not, it’s too soon to tell. His second album may blow everyone away. If he puts out an awesome album, it won’t matter if he is laid back in interviews.

  181. I don’t know if Kris is as low maintenance as his plaid shirts make him seem, after all he was the only idol winner who was able to dump his coronation single from the tour set.

  182. Why would Kris be low maintenance? Being laid back doesn’t make your band mates or your plain tickets cost less.

  183. I mean low maintenance in that Kris doesn’t need much beyond the basic band and travel costs (his concerts are pretty simple, production-wise). It’s been said that Jive is a frugal label, so relative to other artists, Kris might make a healthy profit in the end.
