New My Chemical Romance Single to Appear in ‘American Idol’ Promo

Just about the last place you’d expect to hear a My Chemical Romance song is on American Idol, but that appears to be where the band’s new single, “Sing, ” is headed. Promos for Season 10 have already started airing — the first featuring all nine Idol winners and the song “Chances” by Five for Fighting premiered on the Ryan Seacrest Youtube channel — and THR hears My Chem’s latest is one of several songs that will serve as the music for a new set of ads (according to a Fox rep, a final decision on promo music has yet to be made).

“We don’t know for sure, ” MCR frontman Gerard Way tells THR. “But any kind of infiltration is great, so the offer was pretty much a no-brainer. It’s something a lot of people are going to see and they’ll hear the music which is the most important thing.” Adds guitarist Frank Lero, “I think it would be really cool if an actual band was heard on the biggest music TV show.”

Fox’s Kevin Reilly And Mike Darnell On ‘American Idol’ & ‘Fringe’ Moves; No Back Orders For ‘Running Wilde’ & ‘Good Guys’

“We have been looking at Thursday for a long time, ” Fox’s reality chief Mike Darnell said. “It is a tough nut to crack, and if you want to crack it, you have to make a big move there.” Idol has been the biggest show on television for 8 years, so why make this move now? It was CBS’ surprising decision in May to take another reality juggernaut, Survivor, off Thursdays that set the Idol shift idea in motion, Darnell said. With Idol itself going through a major transition with new judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler and without Simon Cowell, Fox brass decided to wait and see how the show’s production was going and, happy with what they’d seen so far, they pulled the trigger on the scheduling change. “It felt like the right time to make the move, ” Darnell said. “Now we can own Thursday.”

Video: Maksim Chmerkovskiy Comes to Terms with His Shocking ‘DWTS’ Elimination

Maksim Chmerkovskiy appears to have come to terms with his shocking elimination from ‘Dancing With the Stars’ along with partner Brandy. On ‘Access Hollywood Live’ (weekdays, syndicated), he refused to slam the surprising vote or America’s decision to put Bristol Palin in the finals. Instead, he asked viewers to keep watching the dance competition despite a recent flurry of criticism.

“It’s all good, ” Chmerkovskiy said. “It’s my job right now, my duty, to make sure that people don’t turn off, because there’s a lot of negativity, a lot of negative emotion. We got a lot of love and support from our fans, but I need to stay true to what I want, and I want dancing on TV. I don’t want there to be any sort of scrutiny about the show.”
