Sons of Sylvia’s Adam Clark talks about touring with Carrie Underwood

I caught up with opener Sons of Sylvia’s oldest trio member, mandolin-playing Adam Clark, outside after last night’s Carrie Underwood show, standing nondescriptly near his tour bus about 100 feet from where a group of Underwood fans waited anxiously for her to exit the venue.

“She’s not going to come out, ” he deadpans, watching the crowd with an amused smile. “She never does until all the fans leave.”

Matt Giraud plays the Grand Ole Opry

Matt Giraud made his debut on Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry radio show Tuesday night, appearing with local jazz singer Anna Wilson to perform their duet of You Don’t Know Me.

Today, Matt recorded a second version of You Don’t Know Me with Wilson. “It’s like a broken-down acoustic version of me and her sitting comfortably and recording it, ” he says. Tonight, he’ll go in the studio with producer Doug Grow to record a song for Matt’s forthcoming EP.

Matt has yet to set a release date for his EP but says, “I think we’re going to be getting a single out by Christmas — or at least by Valentine’s Day.”

BACKSTAGE: Locals interviewed for Lambert’s ‘True Hollywood Story’

“The producer, Michael Lynn, is very excited and passionate about the project and said the final production is wonderful, ” Leila Lambert said. “I was able to share so many videos and photographs that have never been released before, so I think it will be refreshing. I have spoken with many people who were interviewed, and they said it was so enjoyable talking about Adam and his success story.”

Also interviewed was Metropolitan Educational Theatre Network/MET2 producer Kathie Bretches-Urban, who first met Adam 17 years ago, when the then-redheaded, freckle-faced Rancho Penasquitos preteen started performing in her company’s youth theater productions in Poway. Bretches-Urban said she spent 90 minutes with the documentary crew last summer answering questions about her first impressions of the young Lambert.

Susan Boyle Tops Billboard 200, ‘Glee’ Reigns On Digital Songs

It’s a “Dream” come true: the cast of Fox TV’s “Glee” and Susan Boyle rock the top of Billboard’s charts this week.

“Glee’s” cover of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” was the top selling song in the U.S. last week, as it’ll debut at No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart with 214, 000, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It marks the ensemble’s first No. 1 and biggest sales week yet. Previously, the cast’s best week came when its first single, “Don’t Stop Believin’, ” debuted at No. 2 with 177, 000 (June 6, 2009).

Recording Artist Danny Gokey to Donate Old Eyeglasses to Raise Funds for Free Eye Exams and Glasses for Needy Children

GLENDALE, Wis., Nov. 17, 2010 /PRNewswire/ — Since early October hundreds of Danny Gokey fans have donated used eyeglasses and non-perishable food items at Wisconsin Vision stores throughout the state. In exchange for their donation, today those fans get to meet Gokey, the 19/RCA Nashville recording artist and 2009 American Idol finalist, when he shows up to contribute his own used pairs of eyeglasses at Wisconsin Vision’s new Glendale location. Gokey’s glasses will then be auctioned online to raise funds for a new program announced today by Wisconsin Vision and Sophia’s Heart to provide free eye exams and glasses for children in need.

Wisconsin Vision will also present a $10, 000 contribution to Gokey for Sophia’s Heart, the non-profit organization Gokey founded in memory of his late wife Sophia to help mend and heal the hearts of children and families who have been touched by poverty, sickness, disease, broken families and broken dreams.

The Clear Days Ahead program is the first medical relief program for Sophia’s Heart. Each month Wisconsin Vision will auction several pairs of Gokey’s eyeglasses for the non-profit. The funds will help pay for reduced-rate eye exams provided by Wisconsin Vision optometrists. The optical company will then donate the needed lenses, frames and fabrications valued at more than $200 per pair. The Milwaukee Teachers Education Association will help screen and refer children eligible for the free exams and eyewear.

‘Dancing With the Stars’: Maks ‘never said’ he didn’t like Bristol Palin

Bristol Palin’s somewhat surprising victory over Brandy in the “Dancing With the Stars” semifinals might have seemed even more dramatic for viewers who read recent stories about bad blood between Palin and Brandy’s partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

Maks spoke with press after his and Brandy’s elimination, and he thinks all the talk is a result of the persona he’s developed on the show.

“A lot of things just stick, ” Maks says. “Most recently, there’s Bristol saying that I didn’t like her. I never said that. I want people to understand that I’m just here as a dancer. That’s all I am.”

Backstage at DWTS: “I’m in Shock” Confesses Tonight’s Eliminee

“I’m in a lot of shock, ” the tearful pop star told us following her elimination. “But I’m very blessed to have been a part of something so amazing, where I can rediscover who I am, challenge myself and prove to myself that if I really commit to something and give it my all, I can be success.”

“I’m just so thankful to Maks, ” she said. “He taught me how to dance with confidence.” Added the sometimes hotheaded dancer, “I’m very proud of Brandy. It’s been an amazing experience, and I really do have a lot to thank her for. It’s been challenging, but she’s been there in more ways than one.”

Kimmel Talks Conspiracy Theories with Brandy, Maks After ‘DWTS’ Cast-Off (VIDEO)

Jimmy Kimmel is outraged by America’s vote to eliminate Brandy Norwood and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy from ‘Dancing With the Stars.’ The pair had scored well all season and garnered their first perfect 30 the previous night. Meanwhile, Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas earned lower scores but remain in the competition.

On ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ (weeknights, 12:05AM ET on ABC), the host tried to draw some anger out of Brandy, but she was very gracious, saying the experience had restored her confidence. “I believe more in myself now.” Kimmel countered, “This would destroy my confidence.”

Report: Man Shoots TV Over Palin Dance

A 67-year-old rural Wisconsin man enraged over Bristol Palin’s lack of skill on “Dancing with the Stars” blasted his television with a shotgun, leading to an overnight standoff with a SWAT team, according to the AP.

A Dane County Sheriff’s detective said Steven Cowan felt Palin was “not a good dancer and was only on the show because of her famous mother.”

Then Cowan shot his TV before turning the gun on his wife, who ran out and escaped.

SWAT officers surrounded the home and talked Cowan out Tuesday morning.

Lea Michele to Receive Billboard’s First-Ever Triple Threat Award At Women in Music

Lea Michele, the 24-year-old Broadway ingenue-turned-breakout star of Fox’s “Glee, ” will receive the Triple Threat Award at the 2010 Billboard Women in Music Event on Dec. 2 in New York, it was announced today (Nov. 16). Michele will be celebrated alongside Jazmine Sullivan, who is receiving the Rising Star Award, and Black Eyed Peas vocalist and Grammy-nominated artist Fergie, Billboard’s Woman of the Year.

“I’m so excited!” Michele tells Billboard.com of receiving the honor, which recognizes excellence in performance across acting, singing and dancing.” “At work we have a nickname for Matt Morrison — we call him ‘Triple Threat, ‘ because he’s an incredible singer-dancer-actor. 1. Great article with Ruben. I haven’t seen him in a while, so if he comes to a small jazz venue in NY, am there!

Still pissed that Brandy got ousted on DWTS. Crap!

  2. So nice to read about high-quality Ruben still getting some help to put out high-quality music. Love to hear him jazzy. And so nice to read about fans finding out about and appreciating high-quality Adam Clark and his brothers. Thanks, Carrie, for taking them on tour with you! I certainly hope that Ruben and the Clarks are well enough established that they can go on making a living being good musicians making good music for a long time to come, and it kind of looks like things are tending that way. Given all the fretting we do about some of these kids’ futures, it’s nice to get a little confirmation that things can work out, even if you’re in a smallish niche and never get heard on the pop stations.

  3. Happy 1-year anniversary of your album release, Kris!!!!

Don’t forget, he’ll be on Ryan’s radio show at approx 8:30 am Pacific time

  4. girlygirl – I bet it feels like a lifetime ago for Kris. Maybe he’ll have news about Kris #2.

  5. “I’m so excited!” Michele tells Billboard.com of receiving the honor, which recognizes excellence in performance across acting, singing and dancing.” “At work we have a nickname for Matt Morrison — we call him ‘Triple Threat,’ because he’s an incredible singer-dancer-actor. Um, nothing against Lea Michele, who is very talented (I saw and loved her in Spring Awakening, even if I’m not always in love with her as Rachel on Glee)… but she can’t dance. Matt Morrison, yes. Lea? Sorry, just a smidge better at choreography than Cory Monteith (sp?) who is terr-ible.

  6. I don’t know if this has been posted before, but all the judge’s shenanigans in X-Factor is starting to rebound on the show –

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/nov/17/simon-cowell-x-factor-heat

I don’t think there is much in the story that Simon knew the results beforehand, you can see all the calculations going through his mind when the results were revealed in the last few shows. But the whole thing is really not tenable and it’s amazing that few people have questioned the whole set up of the show – he owns the show, the producers and the fellow judges are really his employees, the acts that win become his acts, he is on the show trying to influence how the public vote, and if the public voted different he and the other judges can override them anyway. He is the puppet master of the whole thing. What the Katie Waissel business is starting to show to the public is how much he is in control, it is really him who kept her on the show.

The ratings for UK X-Factor however are good, so I’m not sure if he is that worried by all the controversies, they are probably what kept the ratings high. The ratings are higher now than when the season started, I don’t know if this has ever happen for American Idol except possibly for Season 1 – ratings normally dip in the middle of the season for AI.

Simon is sailing too close to the wind, and it would be interesting to see how all these controversies will affect the US show. I suspect he will likely tone everything down for the first season just to see how things will go first.

  7. Happy Birthday — KATA!!!!

FYE ended it’s run on the Billboard 200 at 50 weeks! It is a nice round number! But that means no more weeks sales reports from Brian. :(

  8. So happy for Kris…what a year!! Can’t wait for album #2 and so glad he seems so excited for it to!!

  9. Did anyone catch Farmer’s Daughter on the Chicago station to tell whether it is indeed being characterized as the first single instead of HO? I know someone posted a Billboard stream of it.

  10. So happy for Kris…what a year!! Can’t wait for album #2 and so glad he seems so excited for it to!!

Congrats to Kris! I know he’s still on the Lifehouse tour, but any news about a second album yet? Curious. I know Adam’s been talking about his second.

  11. Yeah..can’t wait to watch the My date with Adam. They have been advertising it alot.

  12. Smallie if you listen or read Kris’s interviews he talks about already writing/working on songs for the next album. He also said he has a couple of songs already done that he is really excited about.

  13. FYE had a great run in the top 200! Brian left a comment saying Adam should be on the year to year chart and he should have additional album numbers later today, so we should get updates on those out of top 200 later.

  14. Did anyone catch Farmer’s Daughter on the Chicago station to tell whether it is indeed being characterized as the first single instead of HO? I know someone posted a Billboard stream of it.

It´s 9 pm tonight, so hasn´t happened yet

  15. More confirmation of the switch to FD as the first single

That’s awesome that FD is the single, but what is up with Jive? When will they make an official announcement? They haven’t tweeted about it, AI hasn’t tweeted about it. I mean I would have expected jive to tweet about it debuting on the MIX chicago station tonight.

  16. Recording Artist Danny Gokey to Donate Old Eyeglasses to Raise Funds for Free Eye Exams and Glasses for Needy Children

Good for Danny – he really is doing everything he said he wanted to do with SHF.

  17. FYE ended it’s run on the Billboard 200 at 50 weeks! It is a nice round number! But that means no more weeks sales reports from Brian. :(

I know albums don’t usually get back on the BB200, but he has some big national promo doesn’t he coming up with that Estory thing? Maybe that will get him back on.

That is quite the ambitious program Danny Gokey has set up with WI Vision and the Milwaukee Teacher’s association. Must have taken a lot of work and time. I love how he is so personally involved in all these charity attempts.

  18. The date with Adam clip says Thurs at 10 on zndjroisadkal! Anyone know what it says? lol

  19. Anything interesting come out of kris’ interview with Ryan? ( I can’t listen at work)

  20. That was a funny interview of Kris with Ryan.
    Kris looks great in green.

  21. I know albums don’t usually get back on the BB200, but he has some big national promo doesn’t he coming up with that Estory thing? Maybe that will get him back on.

Yes, the E! True Hollywood Story premieres on Sunday. Might be hard to get back on the BB 200, though, because the AMAs are this weekend too and artists featured on that show will probably reappear on the charts if they’re not there already. Brian did post that Adam’s album sales this week increased by 4% and he just missed the BB200.

  22. haha good interview with Kris :)
His butt naked story will never get old

  23. Brian did post that Adam’s album sales this week increased by 4% and he just missed the BB200.

It’s not unusual for there to be some differences in rankings between Brian’s list on Wed and the official BB200 list on Thu. FYE probably won’t be on it, but stranger things have happened. ;)

  25. Congrats to Adam on a great run on the BB200! And yes, albums sometimes reappear on the BB200, especially when they still have current songs playing on the radio or there’s new promo for the artist that causes interest to spike.

  26. Pretty fun interview with Kris & Ryan. I’m glad Ryan didn’t ask him questions about the upcoming season of AI or other contestants, etc. That gets borrrrrring! Good job, Ryan!

  27. USA Today recap of Carrie’s Baltimore concert

A ball gown made out of LCD lights, a moving stage complete with gigantic tree branch and rope swing, and Carrie Underwood singing above a 10,000-person crowd while suspended in a royal-blue pickup truck may not be average concert fare.

Washington Post review of Carrie’s Baltimore concert

What’s most impressive, still, is the extraordinary power of her voice. The torch ballad “I Know You Won’t” proved she could cross over into R&B territory with little strain. “Temporary Home” offered a glimpse of Underwood’s developing maturity as a songwriter.

  28. “Hi, it’s Sheryl again. I had to share this with you. It’s the title track to Crystal Bowersox’ upcoming CD…..and…”

Thanks! That’s the best quality version yet from the Vinyard event.

  29. That’s awesome that FD is the single, but what is up with Jive? When will they make an official announcement? They haven’t tweeted about it, AI hasn’t tweeted about it. I mean I would have expected jive to tweet about it debuting on the MIX chicago station tonight.

    LOL. Sorry, instant reaction.

  30. More confirmation of the switch to FD as the first single: Hear Farmer’s Daughter, in full f-bomb glory

Explicit lyrics, eh? Is this an Idol winner/runner up debut album first?

IMO the song is stronger without the f-bomb.

  31. Kris and Katy look so cute together :)
haha excited for e! true hollywood and my date with adam lambert (vftw will have a lot of fun with those ppl tho…i like their hair srsly :))
OMG BABY GLEE PEOPLE WAS ADORABLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! :)

  32. IMO the song is stronger without the f-bomb.

Censoring the lyrics for political correctness only waters down songs. The “Fucking sick and tired” line is one of the key moments of the song. It reflects the gravity of what Crystal was feeling at the moment when she wrote the song. It’s not a song for kiddies to dance in clubs, it’s an autobiographical tale of child abuse and the use of “FUCKING” as an emphasis word is entirely appropriate considering the subject matter she’s singing about.

It’s certainly not gratuitous swearing about some ho and her phat booty like we see in a lot of the crap out there today. This is some very serious shit, and the strong language belongs in the song to reflect this fact.

  33. Yay for Matt debuting at Grand Ole Opry! He sounded amazing last night. It will be interesting to see how much Anna’s label continues to involve Matt in promotion of her CD as it gets closer to its Feb. 1 release date. Already, it’s gotten him a showcase for her label, Music World, and a gig at the Grand Ole Opry, which is a pretty good start.

  34. Fun interview with Ryan.[ Actually in the photo Ryan could be taken as Kris’s brother!!] Its good that Katy is able to be with Kris again. Yep that green does suit Kris well!

  35. I never noticed the lyric, I had to listen for it. It’s kinda mumbled. Now that I know where it is, I hear it. Doesn’t bother me either way. But I just downloaded ‘Fucking Perfect’ by Pink today, so obviously the word doesn’t bother me.

  36. Good PSA by Max Adler for the It Gets Better campaign. This guy is a really good actor. I think he is under-rated on the nuance of his performance. I also like reading that the Bullying theme will be an all season topic. It was not handled in one episode. The effect on others will be brought up too. I think Max Adler will be showing much more of his acting chops as the season unfolds.

Bristol Palin issue is really funny to me. She is not the only contestant that has been voted for by more then just the extent of her talent but she is the one that seems to be trudging up the most controversy over it. Emmet Smith won because football fans definitely voted for him, not because he was the best dancer but because he was a football player and did ok. He was the everyday man that people could relate to and he improved and though wasn’t a better dancer then Mario or Joey he was for the average person watching tv a reflection of themselves and he could make average Joe America feel they could compete in the show too. Though Mario and Joey were better Dancers America related to Emmet more (Just like Jennifer and Lyle and even Brandy are better then Bristol though not by a whole lot IMHO) Could be that a large portion of the American Public identify with her and relate to her so they VOTE for her. Didn’t hear too much outrage when the football fans were voting unfairly for Emmet. Anyway Like someone said DWTS producers are laughing all the way to the bank. :-) Also don’t think if Bristol wins the Credibility of the show will be ruined as I don’t think the show really has any real credibility to lose to begin with. Its just a fun show that has B to D stars on it trying to revitalize their careers. Works with some not with others.

Nice interview with Kris and Ryan. Good interview with David A. Seyesha look great and still in Dream Girls which she is getting better and better with the part. Getting more and more excited for the E True Hollywood Story with Adam Lambert. Also can’t wait to see the Win a Date with Adam Lambert segment. Looks like a lot of fun and the girls look so thrilled to be going with him on their date. Great charity Danny Gokey is working with and a great cause. Yeah for Darren Cris and the Teenage Dream #1 spot. (Great cover like it better then the origial. Great song and great rendition. Awesome.

  37. It’s certainly not gratuitous swearing about some ho and her phat booty like we see in a lot of the crap out there today. This is some very serious shit, and the strong language belongs in the song to reflect this fact.

I’ve pretty much looked at it too as, how would most people say it if they were in her situation? “I’m so sick and tired of this,” or “I’m fucking sick and tired of this?” Even the most proper people, if they’re pushed to that point, will say the latter.

That said, I do still worry that there might be some stations that otherwise might play the song, but won’t just simply because they don’t want to go to the trouble of bleeping it or whatever. Doubt that’ll have much effect though in the end.

  38. Awww, he sounds so happy. Still remember the interview with Access Hollywood where he said he was most excited to visit France because he’d never been.

  39. So according to AINow, Sarah Palin’s book has dissed AI contestants as untalented victims of the cult of self esteem, while her daughter apparently has similar cultish leanings participating on a talent show on which the mother has also appeared in the audience. Politics and entertainment – now more than ever the same thing.

Just a thought maybe because of the CMA Adam just missed the BB200 and next week he will be back on. Especially if he missed by a small margin of say 50-100. He had an increase so my guess is a lot of albums saw increases because of the awards show and the holidays are coming. I would guess he will be back on the BB200 next week or the week after. That’s my prediction and I am sticking to it. ;-)

Babe, I love your prediction, but you have to remember that there are tons of new releases this week and the Beatles catalog has just been released on Itunes and based on what happened with the Michael Jackson catalog after his death, those albums will chart on the BB200.

  44. And even if Adam just missed out on the BB200 because of CMA this weekend is the AMA’s which will push it back down…but who knows maybe his E!THS will get some ppl buying

You got a very astute point there CindyM. I guess my feeling is eventually he could get back into the BB200. Especially for Holiday buying. I hope some of the Jingle Balls and possibly maybe a few Christmas TV show appearances (to help promote the Acoustic EP will also push the FYE Album up a few thousand and help it get back into the BB200 before it finally leaves the chart completely.) Its wishful thinking I know but its also a strong possibility that it could happen. If anyone can do it AFL can.

  46. Can I just say that Jim C. Is one funny guy and sometimes his recaps don’t work but mostly they do and this one was pure genius IMHO. He really is a talented guy. MTV is lucky to have him. Actually I feel lucky that we get the The Superfecta of American Idol bloggers with MJ, Jim C, Michael Slezak and Lyndsay Parker. Who are all intelligent, humorous, and extremely fair and mostly impartial journalist of American Idol and other shows. Though I never met any of them I feel connected and think of them as nice acquaintances. (Don’t worry MJ I won’t be stalking you. I know the difference between actually being friends and the faux comfortability of friendship that being on the blog provides. I appreciate it very much but know where the line is drawn. ;-) (We also get Brian Mansfield at USA today who is really a top notch journalist and does dedicate a whole bunch to American Idol (especially from the country music perspective.) I don’t know the word for having 5 top notch stars in a row so he kind of gets left out But he is a gem like the other 4.
