It’s a busy time for Carrie Underwood

NASHVILLE ‘” Every interview with a country singer should start like this: Walk into a room just as the fresh-faced, all-American girl confides to a friend, “I fell off the wagon ‘ hard!”

But Carrie Underwood didn’t go on a bender worthy of the character in her 2008 hit Last Name, who wakes up married to a man she doesn’t know after an alcohol-induced blackout.

No, she had a milkshake. With Oreo bits. And, she whispers, “It was good.”

For Underwood, there’s no holding back on ‘Play On’

NASHVILLE ‘” This time, Carrie Underwood feels as if she has some room to play.

She has a healthy string of chart-topping singles under her belt since winning American Idol in 2005. Her latest, the almost-urban Cowboy Casanova, is in the top five on USA TODAY’s country singles airplay chart and climbing. Her first two albums have sold well enough that a good first week for her third ‘Play On, out Tuesday ‘ could push her past the 10 million mark.

‘Ralit’: Angels and cavemen on ‘SYTYCD’; NC-17 horror on ‘DWTS’; blackface on ‘Top Model’; boredom on ‘Runway’; and justice on ‘Top Chef’

Halloween came early to reality TV this past week. Dancing With the Stars and America’s Next Top Model broadcast graphic, disturbing scenes as scary as anything that Jigsaw fella could’ve cooked up in the Saw series. So You Think You Can Dance brought out angels, cave-people, and the human embodiment of a text message. Project Runway found its top six contestants handing out boxes of stale raisins instead of delicious candy. And Top Chef served up one deluded douchebag trying to dress himself up as a front-runner ‘” and failing poetically!

Kelly Clarkson displays versatility in show here

ST. CHARLES ‘” Kelly Clarkson stands at an intriguing midpoint in what promises to be a long musical career.

On stage Halloween night at the Family Arena, the original winner of “American Idol” displayed all the gifts that made her a superstar, yet also revealed the talent and inclination which could keep her singing in the public eye for many years to come.

When the curtain was raised at the beginning of her performance, a massive ensemble was revealed on stage ‘” two guitarists, three horn players, a keyboardist, a disc jockey, two backing vocalists, and a bassist and drummer were spread impressively across a flashy complex of risers and ramps. At the center top, Clarkson stood stock still and began belting out “All I Ever Wanted, ” the title track from her fourth album, released earlier this year. She immediately asserted her dominance as a singer with her passionate, intensely nuanced control of contemporary pop music approaches.

Show Review + Setlist: Kelly Clarkson at the Family Arena, Saturday, October 31

After finally getting a chance to attend one of your concerts last night at the Family Arena in St. Charles, I finally understand why I think you’re such a fantastic pop songstress and performer. From the first slow-burning, disco-infused chorus of “All I Ever Wanted, ” your voice held the sparse but appreciative Halloween night audience in a state of hypnotic wonder at how such an everyday, girl next door could somehow possess the ability to shake the arena rafters with such seeming ease.

“We have dancing secrets, ” says Louis. “Only for you, ET, ” adds Kelly.

“We have a lot to prove if we want to stay in this competition because everybody is so good, ” says Kelly. “It’s fun because I’m really pushing myself — I’m working my skirt work.”

Kelly recently injured her foot while practicing for the competition, but she assures us that it’s much better.

Donny Osmond Shirtless for ‘Dancing with the Stars’?

On Monday night’s “Dancing with the Stars” competition show, Donny Osmond and his partner Kym Johnson will be dancing the quickstep. Then they will be doing a team tango with Kelly Osbourne and partner Louis Van Amstel and Derek Hough and Joanna Krupa. So how steamy will this week’s tango get?

“I guess I am going to announce I am going to be shirtless, ” Donny tells ET. “I have to keep up with Derek and Louis. Plus, we are taking our jackets off. I am out there pumping iron because I have to look good next to these guys.”

Mya: ‘One bad night can send anyone home!’

By this point in the season, only the best of the best remain on “Dancing with the Stars” — barring any Cloris Leachman aberrations, that is. And singer Mya is leading the ballroom brigade with her sharp turns, sexy moves and sparkling smile. Now with only seven dancers remaining, the pressure is on — and all the contestants are feeling it in their bones.

I chatted with Mya about the physical toll “DWTS” is taking on her body, what you can expect to see tonight and how she feels about the fact that some fans think she’s got an unfair leg up on the competition.
