Church-Backed ‘Meet the Mormons’ Rocks at Box Office – When you think Hollywood, you don’t normally think of the Mormon Church, but that changed this weekend. The documentary film “Meet the Mormons” — produced by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — just missed the top ten nationally, taking in an estimated $2.7 million. It did that despite being in just 317 theaters and essentially missing out on Sunday business, when LDS church members typically refrain from going to the movies. Its per-screen average of $7,278 wasn’t far behind those of “Gone Girl” ($8,161) and “Dracula Untold” ($8,125). Former “American Idol” star David Archuleta, a devout Mormon, sang the track “Glorious” for the film. – Read more at The Wrap

Jay Leno Hosts, Jennifer Hudson Sings at Carousel of Hope Fundraiser – After dinner (which featured a dessert of ice cream covered in meringue with chocolate sauce that any diabetics attending probably should have avoided) were performances by Josh Groban, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds on acoustic guitar and a set by a Jennifer Hudson with the high-point coming on Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

Kellie Pickler entertains at Topsfield Fair – Country singer Kellie Pickler, of “American Idol” fame, was one of the entertainers at the Topsfield Fair over the weekend. While there, she took a pic with members of Troop A of the Community Action Team of the Massachusetts State Police. The Topsfield Fair runs through Monday. The last day’s entertainment includes a show by the Axe Women Loggers of Maine. – Read more at The Boston Globe

MIPCOM: Simon Cowell Recalls Moment His TV Career Hung in the Balance – Simon Cowell on Monday recalled the moment when a lackluster first week debut for The X Factor UK in 2004 put his own reality TV producer career in peril. “Literally, I could feel a million knives about to go into my back,” the man behind One Direction said Monday at MIPCOM after being asked by Piers Morgan during a keynote interview to reveal his most significant career moment. 2. The Voice has put up a ton of pre-Battle videos. I’m not going to link because there are so many, but they are all on the official Voice YT channel. Just heard on the radio that Adam & Queen will be performing at that rock music awards show!

    Cattituude ?@cattituude
Q1043 announced it, can try to win tickets!

  5. This is good news. You know, when Adam first performed with Queen on the Idol finale, I never imagined it would lead to such a great collaboration with them, and so many opportunities for both.

  6. I am not Mormon, but I have to say many things impress me about the LDS people. First, it is really cool that the proceeds of this documentary movie go to The American Red Cross. It also impresses me that their Bishops and leaders in the church do not take a salary. It is all volunteer. I respect that so much more than these mega-churches whose ministers live in mansions and drive fancy cars. I have encountered missionaries on several occasions, and when I tell them I am happy with my religious affiliation, they wish me a good day and off they go. The missionary program that they set up does so many things other than try to convert people. I have not seen the movie, and it is not coming anyplace near me, but I hope it does well. I hear that it is not a documentary pushing the church at you, but it shows that Mormons are just people like those you meet every day.

  7. Saw the Movie and found it inspiring. It was nice to hear David sing Glorious at the end. The message of the song fit the stories very well. I hope it helps offset the negative views of their church. Was pleasantly surprised that my hometown in Iowa was selected. Nice donation to the Red Cross.

  8. That was the greatest moment ever on Idol, IMO. I’ve always thought of Queen as being at the absolute top of the rock ladder.

  9. As much as I’ve wanted Adam to concentrate on his solo career, I’ve grown to love so many Queen songs that are new to me (Who Wants to Live Forever, I Was Born to Love You, and more). Who knew there were so so many wonderful songs in the Queen catalog? Adam is surely contributing to keeping Queen songs alive, and to also introduce their legendary music to a new audience.

  10. Thanks for the compliment on our church. And yes, there are no attempts whatsoever to convert anyone in the movie – just a look at six ordinary people with extraordinary stories…showing that we’re just normal folks who try to do good and help others as much as possible.

  11. Rain Delay on David Cook singing the Anthem tonight at the Royals/Orioles ALCS Game #3 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, MO.

    David tweets:

Rain messed up today, but I’ll now be singing the NA for Wednesday’s day game for Game 4 of the ALCS! Be sure to tune in! #TakeTheCrown

  12. Phillip Phillips ?@Phillips
All week long @PopCrush will be posting behind the scene footage from the making of #BehindTheLight!
    Phillip Phillips ?@Phillips
The first video is up where I dive into the meaning of “Trigger.”

  13. All the Mormons I’ve met and become friends with have been an insanely nice and cheerful group of people. Despite their church’s teachings, I’ve never had a Mormon say something homophobic to me.

  14. Kris Allen @KrisAllen
    Can you guess what’s happening……

  15. I was Born to Love you is my new current favourite Queen song….didn’t know it before…but its great, so theatrical.

  16. Unless you’re gay of course, then we’ll fight like hell to ensure you don’t have the same rights as others.

  17. I must be blind because I don’t see a thread for AT&T Live Proud — and it was not on the 10/13/14-10/14/14 Concert list. I posted the info on the live streams and twitter follow list there. MJ please delete my post if in the wrong place.

This is Adam first solo concert performance since 12/31/14 (excluding 2 private birthday events) and there are many videographers and streamers in attendance.

  18. You are not blind but the actual post was removed (nvm) & it was post of another article referencing Cowell’s statement about bringing XFactor back to the US.

  19. tripp was talking about the Kelly Clarkson Christmas concert thread. There is nothing about AT&T Live Proud yet.

  20. Adam is performing tonight at AT&T Live Proud — there are several live streams. Here are a few:

He was scheduled to be on at 9:00PM but the Meet & Greets are running long.

In the meantime it is a dance party.

  21. Check out the cover “My Heart Is Open” (Maroon 5), performed by Alex Preston (AI), Jillian Jensen (AI & X Factor), Macy Kate (Rising Star), and Justin Bryte, on YouTube. It’s really, really good! Great harmonies!!!

  22. Kris Allen @KrisAllen
Thanks to all these amazing people and more for making this night so much fun. #ChristmasInOctober

  23. Looks like his natural hair color – I like it – looks a bit like my husband now in height, freckles, lips, and hair – but my husband has midnight blue eyes and is about 15 years older:)

  24. This the most natural I’ve seen Adam look. He was also looking like a real rockstar. Love the fedora.

  25. omg. wow. so gorgeous! I guess that’s nothing new though. :) he’s always been beautiful. He looks cute and scruffy here. nice. :)

  26. That list is pretty spot-on and everything Bethany has accomplished is very impressive. But ugh as the mother of a teen seeing Kylie and Kendall on there makes me cringe.

  27. So excited that he recorded the song he did at last year’s Christmas Stage It as I liked it a lot!
