Scotty McCreery Talks ‘Clear As Day’ Tracks, Family Support and the ‘American Idol’ ‘Pressure Cooker’

They say behind every good man is a woman, and American Idol season 10 winner Scotty McCreery would be first to admit that the women in his life have shaped the artist he is today. Which makes the inclusion of a song called “The Trouble with Girls” a peculiar choice for the 17-year-old’s debut album Clear As Day (out Oct. 4).

“My mom and my sister have shown me how to treat females with respect, ” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. “After some boyfriends she had in the past, my sister would say, ‘Don’t do that.’ She’s been great to me. They have both been right by my side from the start – my mom since the show started in February and then on tour. Idol’s fun, but it’s a pressure cooker. It’s a tough thing to do seven days a week, all hours of the day. I don’t know how the rest of the kids did it without a mom or somebody there to help them out. It was definitely a nice plus for me.”

Break ’n Bread has been a major event in Birmingham for the last 7 years, but the 2011 edition is going even bigger.

The food and wine festival and fund-raiser moves from Pepper Place to Railroad Park and expands well beyond its former size.

Put on by the Birmingham Originals, a group of independent restaurants, the event features samples from almost 40 eateries, plus an assortment of beers and wines selected by owner Jerry Hartley of Cobb Lane’s The J. Clyde. Proceeds will benefit Children’s of Alabama.

Ore Drink and Dine Wins over Birmingham

“I’ve had the opportunity to start restaurants in other places in the country, ” Hicks says. “The fact that I’d performed in that location for so many years and the fact that I was from Birmingham compelled me to start something in a location that was near and dear to my heart.”

Hicks envisioned a restaurant that embodied the soul of the city and his family, which has history in the mining industry. From a screenprint of the old Magic City sign behind the bar to the You Are Beautiful graffiti in the women’s restroom, there’s no mistaking what inspired the design.

‘American Idol’ comes to Portland: Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest talk about local auditions

Steven Tyler wouldn’t be Steven Tyler if – when asked how he amused himself during his trip to Portland for “American Idol” – the answer didn’t involve a jumbled account of his quest for the nude beach at Sauvie Island, its farmstand bounty, and eating himself sick.

What else would you expect from the rock ‘n’ rolling Aerosmith frontman-turned-“American Idol” judge, whose anecdotes are always colorful, not to mention confusing?

Chris Colfer on Dream Broadway Roles: ‘I Haven’t Written Them Yet’

Golden Globe winner, two time Emmy-nominee, Time 100 Honoree, tween heartthrob — Chris Colfer can now add New Yorker Festival guest to his impressive resume. The actor, who plays Kurt Hummel on “Glee, ” joined New Yorker editor Susan Morrison for a 90-minute discussion of his career and ambitions Saturday night at the SVA Theater in front of an audience of primarily young Colfer obsessives.

While the interview was mostly a rehash of topics Colfer fans know from previous interviews — how he had the role of Kurt created for him, bullying in his past, who he wants to guest star on “Glee” — questions which Colfer answered with the preface, “For the two people in the back who don’t know…” However Colfer did add some nuance to his previous answers, admitting that his bullying was so bad that he home schooled for 7th and 8th grade and claiming he sometimes likes the character Kurt more than himself.
